Hillary: 'Let’s keep fighting'

Posted: Sunday, June 01, 2008 6:30 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC's Domenico Montanaro
During her victory speech after the Puerto Rico primary, which she is on her way to winning likely by a two-to-one margin, Ricky Martin music blaring at the introduction and afterward, Clinton showed no sign of pulling out of this race any time soon.

“Let’s keep fighting,” Clinton said four times at the close of her speech to rousing applause.

She refined what seemed to be her closing argument to superdelegates. She argued she has won the popular vote, reluctantly recognized Obama would likely win the pledged delegates (which she called a “slight lead”) and that superdelegates would now decide the Democratic nominee. Mathematically, Clinton needs an overwhelming majority of those superdelegates -- about 85 percent and likely more -- after Tuesday’s contest to overtake Obama.

Clinton got in a familiar dig at Obama, saying voters need to “cut through the speeches and the sound bites for real solutions.”

She touted her strength “among the very swing voters” Democrats “need to win” in a general election. After ticking off the swing states she has won, Clinton mentioned for the first time since yesterday’s rules committee judgment -- “and, yes, Michigan and Florida.” That was greeted with huge applause. When Obama was mentioned earlier in her speech, he was booed.

Clinton maintained -- almost as a dare -- “When voting concludes [Tuesday night], neither of us will have enough delegates” to win the nomination, she said. It is certainly possible Obama will have the required number of delegates Tuesday night, but may need up to 30 superdelegates to do so.

What the approximately 200 undeclared superdelegates need to consider, Clinton argued: (1) Which candidate “best represents the will of the people who voted in this historic election”; (2) Which is “best able to lead us to victory in November”; (3) Which is “best able to lead the nation” as president in the face of challenges domestically and abroad.

She reiterated she is “winning the popular vote,” she’s in this race to win and that she’s most ready to lead on Day One.

“Let’s keep fighting,” she concluded. “Let’s keep fighting. Let's keep fighting. Let's keep fighting.”

I seriously think this woman is having a meltdown! Will someone bring her back to the real world and bust that bubble she's in!! Go Obama
Pitiful! ... She will not get out until she is forced out.

HILLARY NOW LEADS OBAMA IN ANOTHER CATEGORY --- HILLARY HAS WON MORE VOTES IN "PRIMARIES THAT DO NOT COUNT" THAN HAS OBAMA.

-----------------------------------------------------
Go Hillary!! We love you, all the way to convention & The White House

Hillary 08
What is the popular vote thing and how does it figure in...or where does it stand now, I hear ya Todd, but I still a little confused...Could you please show it here...Thank you.

P.S....MSNBC ROCKS, THEM ALL!
Just amazing how the Wicked Witch of the East will keep this nonsense up and have the gall to ask people for more money when it's obvious to the vast majority that this primary farce is over in a few days.  Her speech was more of the same self serving delusions she's been spouting the last 3 months.

Obama's speech today was so uplifting, inspiring and I'm Fired Up and Ready To Go in sending "Bush Hugger" McCain into political retirement, where all Reagan foot soldiers belong.

I got a big laugh out of "Bush Hugger" McCain saying he's going to give a big speech Monday about how he's a different kind of repugnant one.  A pile of dung by any other name is still a pile of dung.  He will never escape the stench emanating from his BFF "Dung Beetle" Bush.

Go Obama 08/12!
Will be so glad when this is over. Senator Clinton is really starting to worry me!
I was kinda surprised by the tone of her speech - it certainly was incredibly hawkish.  But, then again, I didn't expect her to drop out until after the final primary, so I guess we'll all have to wait until some time later this week before Clinton accepts reality.
<p>BTW, Obama supporters (which includes myself) should not be so quick to poo-poo the popular vote argument.  We ALL agree that the nomination process is all about the delegate count, we all agree that the popular votes are essentially meaningless in the nomination fight, we all agree beyond a doubt that Obama is presumptive Democratic nominee.  HOWEVER, Democrats, independents and intelligent Republicans need to remember that over this long, drawn-out nomination process that Obama and Clinton essentially came out of this with a tie in the popular vote count (plus or minus a fraction of a percent depending on how you count the numbers).  No matter how you spin it, the Clinton supporters represent roughly HALF of the Democratic voters out there.  The nomination may be over, and Obama may have won the contest, but now the REAL contest begins for November.  And Democrats would be wise to pay attention to what those Clinton supporters were fighting for, because they represent a huge chunk of Democrats.  Ignore them at your (our) peril.
Obama should appoint her as ambassador

TO IRAN
I think Hillary should stay fighting cause there is a lot more about Obama to come out. I hope these delegates are not so closed minded that they flood for Obama cause if they do it will be definately a loss in Nov. I am so tired of hearing it is owed to him or its the politically polite thing to do. This is our country for pete's sake.I sure would like to see a dem in power but it will only happen if Hillary and everyone will look around like what happened ,again.Hillary has majority of people for her and caucus states and Obama for sure wont get them now cause of his messing Hillary over by draging his feet.
She is NOT winning the popular vote.  This is a naked and ugly attempt to attach an asterisk to Obama's win.  It's unfortunate the MSM is going to let her get away with it.  The facts are that Obama has won 1) the most delegates, 2) the most popular votes, and 3) the most states.
1-I am tired of even the smallest amount of attention being given on this claim of winning the popular vote. It misleads those people that haven't been watching and learning from the beginning.
2-How does she claim being ready to lead on Day One when she can't lead a campaign? She underestimated her opponent. Is that who we want as Commander in Chief?
3-She needs to quit fighting since she's not fighting the good fight. She and her cohorts are trying to rile things up and for what?
4-She doesn't have what Barack Obama has. He is a once in a lifetime leader. Be gracious, Hillary.
*ack*
Obama cannt produce the states we ned for a win what is wrong with everyone dont you ever learn. Is it so important to follow a black right to the losers room?It isnt his race its him.I hope someday we put up a man of color that is right. I think than our country will bring him through but this arrogant eleits isnt it. Untruthful surround with anti american and racist people terriorists ayers and hammus people dont endorse you cause they figure you think opposite of them.Man we have little time to fix this folks.males, women, rich, poor, old, young all voted for Hillary Hello!!
Sigh.
I do wish the media would challenge Clinton on her math concerning the popular vote.

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/6/1/16747/37393/979/526838

Just for giggles, here's what is excluded from the Clinton Math:
Alaska
Colorado
Hawaii
Idaho
Iowa
Kansas
Maine
Minnesota
Nebraska
Nevada
North Dakota
Texas (Caucus only)
Washington
Wyoming
ANY popular votes for Obama in Michigan
The will of this people is Senator Obama!
it's really sad, i think, how the Obama campaign has been accused of giving Sen. Clinton such a rough go, taking "stealing" delegates from MI, pulling her pigtails, writing fluffy speeches with no substance, and all the while Sen Obama has been nothing but magnanimous, cordial, polite. her behavior is dividing the party. her behavior is dividing the country. and she's giving BUSH a hard time? she ought to be ashamed of herself for putting ego and vanity ahead of God and country. if she costs the Dems the WH is '08, she'll be hard-pressed to find supporters in '12.
There is an old saying which goes something like "Power and Money are root of all evil." I look at HRC and I find her lust for power very disturbing. She is willing to twist all facts to get an edge over Obama. I ask the clinton supporters in this blog - Why would you support a candidate like this?- Please provide a rational support!
Even though I have been very critical of Hillary Clinton during this primary election season, I will concede that she is a strong (not stronger) politician and leader. Assuming that Obama becomes the Democratic nominee for president, I don't think that he should feel obligated to offer the Veep spot to Hillary. Indeed, I can think of several dozen individuals who would be better Veep candidates; however, I would not be opposed to seeing Hillary in an Obama Administration, perhaps even Sec. of Defense (interesting) or some other very high-level spot in the Cabinet. Hillary has bite and there is no question about that. That aggressive bite can serve an Obama Administration well.
...AND POINT IS???
About that popular vote

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/6/1/16747/37393/979/526838

It looks like she's not counting very well.

Not that it even matters.

It's the delegates, stupid!
MSNBC First Read, I want to thank you for doing all this math for us...I went to law school after scraping C's out of required math courses in college so I wouldn't have to do much math.  That's why I keep thinking I must be missing something. I read your numbers daily, but just don't get something...

How are the Clintons are calculating popular vote?
How are they calculating popular votes in Michigan?
How are they calculating popular votes in caucus states?

Thanks
This was expected.  Obama will roll out 25 superdelegates on Monday and Tuesday (the Congressional Black Caucus?) before the Minnesota evening rally.  Then SD and Montana close, they will put him over the 2118 top. I expect Al Gore to attend and pass the torch.  If Sebelius or McCaskill attend, they will assume the top Female Democrat crown.

Hillary is Toast and is irrelevant. She will face a Downstate primary challenge in 2012, and lose her Senate seat.

Florida's Rep. Wexler as Obama's VP?

McCain had a 2 hr. mystery trip to the hospital yesterday. Why?
Yep lets keep fighting well until Tues. anyway when Obama wraps up the nomination and that will be it,as far as it going to Denver forget it Obama would still win and Hillarys political career would be utterly finished.By Thru. she will concede and its finaly over...
What is really troubling here is Clinton would think voters in PR who cannot vote in GE are more important than those in the caucus states. But then again, this is why she lost, she never understood the importance of the caucus states, and she still does not get it. She can keep fighting, but there are no more fights to fight after Tuesday. By the way, where is Bill Clinton? How come he did not make a sound today?
Keep fighting what a lost of two frantic politico's the Clintons polotical illusion? Not!

It's over Hillbillies...give it a break.

The Clinton's are not really Democrats.  They are leeches who's only affinity for the Democratic party is to suck it dry for as long as it serves their purpose.  They will shed no tears if the Dems lose the general, as she will not be the nominee, and if her last desperate gasp hurts Obama so be it.  She will simply claim "I told you so."  She is without conscience.

If Senator Obama is not able to put together a party she has done everything in her power to divide, it opens the door for her in 2012.  I am 100% convinced that this is her strategy; hope for a miracle now and by default destroy the dems chances which help hers in the next election.

This means I will be a drifter.  There is just no way I can see myself marking a box by her name.  She may be thinking that she will do what she has to now (means supports the end) and later do the right thing.  Except the minute you do that, you become the means.

I am trying so desperately to believe that my fellow Democrats will see the light.  I pray that the poison gas the Clinton campaign continues to spray around will thin out once Hillary is out of the race.  I'm not sure it will.  I'm not sure she'll let it.  She has shown me she is a fighter all right, a "dirty fighter".

The fight is over.
Losers always make big noise,as they feel helpless in helping themselves. This is very evident and crystal clear from the big noise Clintons and her stupid surrogates make when the facts are presented to them. Clintons never had class ands grace expect their arrogant behavior and self fulfilling prophecy.
Just wait until after Tuesday night. Starting Wednesday morning the undeclared SD's will start coming out for Obama in droves to the point that, by the 6 o'clock news, he'll have 2118+ delegates.
As soon as that happens Hillary will either suspend her campaign (most likely) or she will tell us of her plans to go to the Credentials Committee (most unlikely).
Within weeks, the only "disaffected white women Democrats" will be lifetime Republicans dressed in Democratic clothing and Taylor "faux broadcaster" Marsh.
Do we want to send a Bill Clinton to the white house for four more years? Bill Clinton’s Icon used widely in this campaign in order to get several voters to his wife Hillary, Puerto Rico is a good example for that. Nobody pay attention that behind her motivation(Fighting!) to be nominee is Bill interest to go back to the white house. Who is going to lead this country, Bill or Hillary?
Hillary dont quit. please dont quit. I hate the cable news- they all slant the coverage. If Obama gets nod I will vote republican.
Some explain to Bill that "swing state" doesn't mean what he thinks.
Except she is not winning the popular vote without the magic math that she does in her head.

I am hoping the Senator Obama will be able to have the numbers necessary to declare himself the nominee when he is in St. Paul, MN on Tuesday.  My daughter may have the honor of watching history being made that day.
While Obama was praising Clinton in the West, Clinton managed to get in a familiar "cut through the speeches" dig against Obama, the front runner and (let's now say it) the certain nominee in a few days.  How does that help defeat McCain?

With the caucases counted, Obama even has more poplar votes than Clinton, not that it matters.

Bad show, Hillary.
How come if Barry is so great and will be crowned King  um I mean dem candidate, how come he gets his ass beat so bad  so often. Me thinks something stinketh and its name be St. Obama Hee Heee
I think we have been looking at this all wrong, its' NOT WHAT HILLARY WANTS ITS WHAT SHE ALREADY HAS...VP!

LOOK..
Obama never campagines where she already strong at just a little, but where McCain is stronger at
Here Ickki...Get mad, so the woman will still feel Hillary's fight
Here Hillary take PR, that will lock up the rest of
The Hispanic votes you and Bill have

He's always in the corner, like when the bell rings he didn't hear it

AND BAM! Which is “best able to lead the nation” as president in the face of challenges domestically and abroad.
Clinton got in a familiar dig at Obama, saying voters need to “cut through the speeches and the sound bites for real solutions.”
THIS WAS NO DIG, THIS WAS A PRAISE...STOP WATCHING ALL THE REV WRONGS, STOP LISTENING TO MCCAIN...LISTEN TO US
Obama...Go get'm Girl!
The perfect general election strategy!
A 50 STATE SWEEP!
she is a real fool! Enough of this nonsense!
Don't mind a woman president but not Hillary! If you read the stories about her you would know we would be making a huge mistake! If you really care about the future Obama is the individual who can only make that happen! Educate yourself first and see it for what it is!
Hillary is not going to quit, no matter what is good for the Obama, good for the party, and good for the nation.  She has lost but she and her groupies have not come to the realization that it is not a popular vote selection, it is a delagate selection.  Obama will have the delagates on Wednesday, he will be the winner.  Clinton does not care.  She only cares for herself.
Why is the press paying any attention to this malignant woman who is clearly bent on holding the entire Democratic Party to ransom and destroying it if she is not the nominee? By covering her failed camapign, the press is giving credence to her  argument that she should be the nominee based on her spurious "Enron-style" accounting in respect of the popular vote tally.  The media is complicit in prolonging the debacle that the Democrats find themselves in by giving airtime to HRC and her shameless representatives - the McAuliffe's and Ickes of the world who should know better.

This woman should simply be ignored!

is Hillary deaf and blind?
Rabble-rousing at this stage of the game is just plain cheesy.
I swear the woman is just like George Bush....can't ever admit she's wrong.  NOT what we want in our president.
Hillary just doesn't get it.  The country needs a new beginning to start healing and an end to bitter hyperpartisanship and bigotry.
Okay Chuck Todd,  what is the truth about the popular vote...
After hearing Harold Ickes on Meet the Press today say that she WILL BE the nominee... I suspect that she is going to declare victory based on the popular vote and dare the superdelegates to overturn the will of the voters....
I don't think she is going to get out even if Obama has enough delegates by the end of the week...
Hillary has become more divisive with each day.  The more she continues to mislead voters the more difficult it will be to unify the party.  By speaking in terms of the popular vote, which she incorrectly states she is winning, she creates the illusion that the nomination will be stolen from her.
Hillary has shown repeatedly that she will deceive the voters to get what she wants. We currently have a president who has done just that for 8 years.  We do not need another.
It is frightening.  I started this primary season a Clinton supporter.  Her lies and deception opened my eyes to what people have been saying about the Clintons for years.  I did not believe it then, I do believe it now. I defended the Clintons. It is frightening how close we have come to repeating a sorry chapter in our nation's history. We should fear a Clinton presidency as much as we do a repeat of a Bush presidency.
Hello Chuck: Thank you for your excellent numbers cruching! You're where I go for accuracy. My question to you is - Why isn't Hillary challenged on her popular vote math when she conveniently excludes the caucuses? Her motto these days is "COUNT EVERY VOTE". Thousands voted in the caususes with Obama winning all but one? of them. According to CNN Sunday night without the caucuses Hillary has a 200,000+ lead in popular vote. With the caucuses factored in (estimated since most don't report numbers voting) Obama has about a 35,000 popular vote lead which will increase with his expected wins on Tuesday in South Dakota and Montana. What do your numbers say and why do we seem to give equal value to her math? Did something happen or didn't it? I know a case can be made that since Obama was not on the Michigan ballot that it is difficult to know exactly how much of the undecided vote was for him.  In the end, how do we come up with the most accurate counting of the popular vote.
Thank you!!  Rich Cohen
It's funny, I saw on another news show (sorry) that she doesn't acutally have the popular vote.  When you include the caucus states and Michigan - giving Obama the undecideds - because the exit polling showed it was for Obama, and included PR, he is the leader in popular votes...

I guess she is winning the popular votes on Mars...also, she keeps saying that 17 million people voted for her more than any other candidate, well Obama - even with her fuzzy math, also got over 17 million votes...I guess fooling the public and making them believe what she says is fact, and no she is NOT the best to lead our nation...in fact, she is the most divisive candidate we have ever had.
Americans are tired of fighting. The fighting that is killing and maiming our young men and women in Iraq along with the in-fighting which has plagued Washington for far too long. The country is together in thinking its time to bring our young people home and end that fighting and they are also ready to see their politicians get together and help us solve some of the tremendous problems facing this country. Senator Obama is poised to become the President that will be able to bring this country together. Hillary Rodham Clinton has been a great campaigner but she is one of the most polarizing people in this country. End the fighting.
Congratulation Sen Clinton on your victory today.

However, your type of politricks doesn't represent what the majority of America want today. We need a change from deceitful, hypocrital, self serving politicians.

You represent the old style of politicians. We need a change for the better; so that the USA will become the moral, spiritual and financial leader of the world.
I just do not see why people continue to believe what Hillary says, she is a lier.  She makes up her own rules as she goes along.  When is appears she is not winning, oops here we go again with another math problem.  She is NOT to be trusted, please can't people get it.  Obama has the numbers and when he reaches 2118 after this week, he will be the nominee.
Well I think.  That from the tone of her speech it is hard to figure out what route Mrs. Clinton is going to go.  The words said lets take this to the convention in August.  But to me the tone of her voice did not have the in your face dare I say it Rocky like as in past victory speeches.  I am sure all of the die hard Hillary supporters will disagree with me.  But this was not the Hillary from West Virgina, Kentucky or Pennsylvina for that matter.  Just an observation
