A superdelegate flood coming?

Posted: Monday, June 02, 2008 4:04 PM by Mark Murray

From NBC's Chuck Todd
Buzz on the Capitol Hill suggests that has many as 34 of the undeclared superdelegates residing in the House will endorse Obama by Wednesday. As many as 18 of these 34 -- many of them elected to Congress in the last four years -- will come out for Obama tomorrow so he can edge closer to his magic number before the vote counting ends in South Dakota and Montana. The biggest Obama get in the House to date will come tomorrow when House Dem Caucus Chairman Jim Clyburn officially declares.

No other member of the Dem leadership is expected to endorse Obama while Clinton is still running.

I figured this would happen; supers will start flooding in after Wednesday, as it becomes blindingly obvious Obama won the nomination. I'll be glad to see this madness end!!
Let's end this!
Well its about time.....what does that mean the other dems wont endorse Obama cause clinton still runing......Are they that affraid or what....... What a bunch of whuuusssses
It's almost over..
the Dems need to come together so we can beat John Mccain in fall..
Both candidates have run a great race...now it's time to unify the party!
Why can't they just get it over with and do it now? At least these 18 will endorse tomorrow, but that I believe still does not get Obama to the magic number even with Montana and South Dakota. Correct me if I'm wrong...
This would be fantastic.  I was however, hoping that they would all declare tomorrow night.  I guess I can wait to hear the great news of our new democratic nominee once it's official on wednesday.  SD's don't keep me waiting !  Flood those gates !
Super duper, paratrooper.
Let's go Super's, put Hillary out of her misery please! As Jim Morrison sang " This is the End, my only friend the End"

Obama 08/12
Yeah Chuck, you and the entire MSN has been reporting a "Flood" of delegates to Obama for months now. So far it hasn't happened.
What the Obamanites forget is all the Supers can pledge and change their minds at anytime. This will go all the way to convention when the Superdelegates will make someone the official candidate. Hillary will announce that she will suspend her campaign and she will be at the convention for the voting. I am sure of it.
The othes do not have the courage to do whats right!  Hillary has to show some class, buy telling the it is ok to come out for Obama.  Obama has tried to give her every chance to do what is right, she needs to come to grips with it.
Let the SD's flood in, so that we won't have to hear from Clinton supporters like Harriet Christian AGAIN!  And people here claim that Obama supporters are so nasty???  You Tube this woman and listen to her rants!  It would be funny if she weren't so sad.

OBAMA, 2008!
Let the Rain Fall!
Well.. We are looking forward to Wednesday!!

As they said in the hood.. Obama all the way, baby!!

All I had to do was read Jim Clyburn's name, and the tears are rolling down my cheeks.

It must have taken great restraint for him, and many other supers, to let Hillary have her shot, without trying to  push her off of the stage, for the sake of party unity.
Please update all of todays comments.
Should we be building an ark? Perhaps we can all get on it and sail past the old man yelling at the cloud.
Also, the remaining undeclared Democratic Senators are planning on endorsing Barack Obama for President later this week.
I will pray extra hard tonight.....so we can get this thing over and help Barack Obama --whip John McCain's ASS (political that is ).
Poor Poor Hillary
OMG!! This chicken c--- stuff is the reason that we all hate Washington, as Dan Abrams says! Correct me if I am wrong, but this probably will NOT result in his reaching the Magic Number by Tuesday night, will it? If that is the case, Hillary WILL claim victory tomorrow night by advancing this ridiculous popular vote argument. If the rest will not endorse until she drops out, this thing will go on til the 12th of NEVER!
it's about time
It should be a special treat for voters in Montana and South Dakota, one they can long remember.
Where is the story about Obama resigning from his church while still supporting its members and philosophy?  Where is the story that Obama continues to refuse to distance himself from that philosophy only from the comments that have been reported.  Just when does NBC/MSNBC begin to become a real journalistic organization?  Obama won the primary but he will not win the general election in November because the majority of voters in this country can see that he represents the beginning of the end of the values that we hold most dear for our country.  His winning the election will never happen.   A wise and political critical thinking democrat in New Jersey
Come on Super Delegates!!! I hope Hillary understands that the reason everyone is "repecting" her feelings so much is also another form of sexism (just one benefitting her). Thank you Barack Obama for giving us hope and leadership!
VP Selection

Wehter you like it or not I think Obama is going to ask Hillary to be his VP folks. Both will be in New York on Wednesday. I think something is brewing if it has not already been served between the two candidates.
Wow, the wisdom of politicians who have a whole four years experience, even more than the man himself...speaking of the man...who will he and his supporters blame if they are the "man"?
The Supers are doing one thing and Clinton is doing another.  This makes no sense.  I guess she is saying if they want her out to push her out and it doesn't sound like she is leaving any time soon.

They have always said, hell has no fury like a woman scorned.  It's unfortunate at this point to simply Huckabee her out of this race.
The Obama victory over the Clintons is too huge to really comprehend just yet.

It will take the retelling of this campaign in history, some measure of time from now, before we are able to adequately grasp his near impossible feat.
Bring on the flood and let us end this thing tomorrow night!!!

Obama '08!

Obama '08
Congratulations to Nancy Pelosi. 34 of the remaining 49 representatives is well done.  Also, a majority of the uncommitted Senators will support Barack either Tuesday or Wednesday.  Hillary knows this as she will give her campaign suspension speech tomorrow night.

Thank God this is over.  Now let's go after McOld.
they've been telling us a flood is coming for quite some time. what if it doesn't?
Yes! Yes! Yes!!!  The end is finally near ... bring on the Super-D Flood.

OBAMA '08 & '12
Great news!!!!!!!!!!!!

Obama '08
I think the super delegates need to think hatd before they rush over to endorse obama. McCain will surely win if that happens. I know of one state that will vote for him if Obama gets nomminee
After this epic battle, it would be an absoulute shame to deny Obama the right to address this nation tomorrow evening as the first African American Nominee for President. I understand the respect for Mrs. Clinton despite the fact she is still attempting to use fuzzy math to diminish his victory, however there must be a feeling of respect and appreciation for what Obama has accomplished here that should outweigh that respect.

Hillary could go a long way to unite us if she would suspend tomorrow night and endorse him prior to his speech.

Your thoughts?
Chuck. I guess this news has you salivating. It is the result that most of your colleagues at MSNBC/NBC have been pushing for, for months. And I do mean pushing, as I have said before, you at MSNBC/NBC have indulged in the journalistic equivalent of push polling. And now Obama will face the same fate.
I keep hearing about this "flood" I heard it after Iowa, I heard it before Ohio and Texas, I heard it after, Pennsylvania and again in Indiana after that Clinton delegate switched and West Virginia and Kentucky. Oh and after the DNC made its decision this weekend, oh and after Clinton's lopsided victory in Puerto Rico.

I wonder if the polls and Obama's weak showing and Clintons strong showing in contest after contest has put a finger in that Dike that has all these superdelegates making up this "mythical" flood?

It sounds to me like Obama is worried he may lose some already pledged delegates to Clinton, Now if that happens, you will see a flood but it wont be for Obama.

By the convention Obamas numbers against McCain will be so bad the supers will be switching to Clinton right and left. He "may", "eventually" , get enough numbers,in teh meantime, but until theose supers VOTE at the convention, he hasnt WON anything. Its all about politics, things change on the ground every day between now and the convention.Obama supports shouldnt build that Ark just yet.
This is all speculation.  If that does happen, a large announcement of superdelegates, then it could be over before all the votes are counted in Montana and South Dakota.  There might be a nominee before the end of June.  I would also note that some Clinton supporters (possibly Clinton herself) would argue that she should stay in since super delegates can change their minds between now and the convention.
Big whoop! Clyburn's "undeclared" status has been the biggest joke since South Carolina. Seriously, if you are going to back a candidate, do it [a la Ted Kennedy]. Clyburn's pseudo politcal coyness was every bit as disingenuous as Pelosi's.  If you are going to remain undeclared for political considerations, then don't let your commentary point the way for you in neon lights. How ridiculous can these two be? As for Obama's supers, he's been promising a "flood" for over a moth & the best we've seen is "drip, drip." The bottom line that NO commentator has pointed out is that although he's been ahead for a long time and will win the nomination it will not be because he won the full compliment of elected delegates. Like clinton, he still at this late date needs superdelagates. How many Presidential nominations were won by superdelegates? You bet he's limping across the finish line.
Eighteen in the house, maybe another ten or twelve non-congressional supers... Sounds like the 30 he is looking for. I think it is time to start speculating about the VP position. I am rooting for Richardson.
How many of these cowards will be voting against the will of their constituents to nominate a child to do a man's job?  How many of these cowards will send a completely unprepared neophyte who is in way over his head, simply because they don't want to be called "racists".

Nominate that fool Obama, and you'll be every bit as bad as a racist.  You'll be a traitor to your country.
We are aware, however what's the Obama bashing being conducted on MSNBC, my favorite been about all day?

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you are a news junkie by now you have tied this story with another one coming out of CNN.  CNN reports up to 17 Senators are ready to back Obama soon, possibly tomorrow.  Which when tied to this story of 18 House members declaring add up to 35 total possible tomorrow.  Expect this to happen before the polls close in Montana so that the headline will read "Montana vote puts Obama over the top" which is better than having the Super Delegates do it on Wednesday.
