Day in Delegates: Obama 4-2

Posted: Monday, June 02, 2008 8:01 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC's Domenico Montanaro
Obama today picked up four superdelegates to Clinton's two.

Since the rules committee judgment, Obama has gotten six superdelegates to Clinton's two.

Here's who they were:
OBAMA (6): WA DNC member David McDonald; VA DNC Member -- a rules committee member -- Jerome Wiley Segovia; Connecticut DNC Member Nancy DiNardo; and two from MI -- MI delegates get half a vote each: Lu Battaglieri and Brenda Lawrence. Yesterday, Obama got Maine add-on Gwethalyn Phillips and Nevada's Yvonne Gates.

CLINTON (2): NY Irene Stein and Louisiana's Democratic Party chair Chris Whittington.

Whittington got in an apparent dig at Obama in a statement released by the Clinton campaign. "There is no question that she is the strongest Democrat to go toe-to-toe with John McCain in a general election," Whittington said. "It is our responsibility as automatic delegates to choose the candidate we believe best fit to beat Senator McCain. That candidate is Senator Clinton."

The NBC NEWS Delegate Counts:
PLEDGED: Obama 1729 to 1625
SUPERS: Obama 333 to 295
EDWARDS PL.: Obama 16.5 to 0
OVERALL: Obama 2,078.5 to 1,920

COUNTDOWN TO THE NOMINATON:
OBAMA: 39.5
CLINTON: 198

* 196.5 undeclared supers.

* With the expected endorsement of Rep. Jim Clyburn tomorrow, Obama would be 38.5 away.

THE PERCENTAGES:
- Obama needs 17% (39.5 of 235.5); Clinton needs 84% (198 of 235.5).

* If Obama wins a 55%-45% split out of the delegates in Montana and South Dakota, he would get about a 17-14 split.

* That would bring his total to 2095.5 -- 22.5 short of the nomination. By contrast, Clinton's total would be 1,934 -- 184 short.

* At that point, there would be 204.5 delegates left, including superdelegates and the remaining Edwards pledged delegates out of Florida and elsewhere.

- Obama would need 11% of those; Clinton would need 90%.

MORE NUTS AND BOLTS NUMBERS:
* 4,234 DNC total number of votes to be cast at convention.

* 31 pledged delegates remain up for grabs -- between tomorrow's contests in South Dakota (15) and Montana (16).

If the SD's really want to end this thing this week, they would ensure that Obama has enough pledged SD that is at least 10 over the original estimate of delegates (what, about 2300) prior to MI and FL being penalized.  Then, for good measure, Al Gore comes out tomorrow night in Minnesota and drops the bomb on the Clintons by endorsing Obama and getting the party started.

Then let's see what other vindictive tricks the Clinton Campaign will pull to destroy the party.

Women for Obama.
If Obama exceeds 2118 delegates by 20 or 30 delegates, the battle over delegates will continue to the convention, even though he would likely still win it. If he exceeds 2118 by 200, it will not. I hope the superdelegates recognize this, for the good of the nominee and the party's chances against McCain.
Actually, Obama got 7 endorsements today for 5.5 votes.

More to come, yeah!
Thanks for all your good work Domenico, you ROCK!!  You guys should pop a bottle of champaign and toast yourselves for a job WELL DONE during this primary season.

This blog has been terrific.  I especially enjoyed the blogging from the floor of the DNC Rules Committee on Saturday.  MS-NBC has become cool again.
It is fitting that every state had the opportunity, (even if Flor-igan willingly, or unwillingly blew theirs), to have an important role in the nominating process of '08!

Given the historical nature of our dem primary, that is surely G-D's Will.

Obama's percentage of supers needed continues to go down, while Hillary's grows, and grows. Why can't her, and her supporters accept that she lost, long ago?

Tenacity has ceased to be a virtue. It has turned to bitter, enraged defiance.
I don't think those calculations are difficult to grasp, Clintons; if you don't understand ask Church Todd.

Representative James Clyburn of South Carolina was fueled by incoherent assassination; it is time to rally your troops. If you and your troops can continue your Attila the Hun style will we take back the WhiteHouse? You are valiant leader. you worked assiduously I am an Obama supporter and I as a woman appreciate your efforts; however, I disagreed with how you allowed your campaign to scar you.
I ‘m getting a mixed message about your plan for unity
Hillary, you're dropping out because the man whom you stood by your husband, Bill said figuratively IT’S OVER.
Remember that time you talked about the 3:00 AM call where you said you'd be ready. Get ready Bill should be calling you soon to let you know.

Senator Kennedy,
It is very brave of to continue to help Barack Obama win the presidency. You truly are the LION KING. My thoughts are with you and your family. May you receive the best treatment for your prognosis.
You know I think that she is going to run as . . . an Independent!  You watch her speech tomorrow.  Something feels really ominous!
HILLARY SUPPORTERS ARE NOT POLITCALLY LITERATE.  IT'S OBVIOUS THAT HAVING A BUNCH OF HYSTERICAL WOMEN SUPPORTERS DOES NOT GET YOU ELECTED TO ANYTHING.  HILLARY SUPPORTERS ARE ALL EMOTION AND NO INTELLECT.  HILLARY IS PLAYING HER SUPPORTERS LIKE A FIDDLE FOR HER OWN SELF-GLORIFICATION AND GRATIFICATION.
-----------------------------------------------------
Isn't it funny that it seems the only Super Delegates going for Clinton now are women.  That's not sexist or anything right?
With Rep. Clyburn leading the way, he will get the superdelegates he needs tomorrow to put him over the top at the close of the vote in Montana.

So GLAD we are going to be moving forward with our NOMINEE...OBAMA!

Obama '08/'12
HRC might have lost the battle but has won the war. Thus, tomorrow everyone is welcome to the celebration to Kickoff HRC 2012 nomination and the damage done by her compaign to Obama chances for 2008.
Those numbers are oh so sexy.

I've enjoyed this contest, it's always exciting when new voters jump in with enthusiasm.

Barack Obama's candidacy signals that this country is back on track.
OBAMA IS A FRAUD.  He has totally destroyed our party - beyond rapair!  His RADICAL RACIST "friends" - are a disgrace!  Obama is NOT Qualified and will never be elected due to his WEAK, Radical questionable background.  New facts are coming out about the real obama - the guy we have not yet seen.
He is NOT the "Uniter" - think he has proven that!

HILLARY  OR MCCain   NEVER obama
you  missed   onDNC member and Florida Democratic Party Secretary Janee Murphy told The Palm Beach Post this afternoon that she would support Barack Obama.
e  chuck
TWO Questions:

1) what about FL super delegate Janee Murphy that Obama announced today;

2) why does the Obama camp have themselves at needing 41.5 more delegates (whereas MSNBC has him needing 39.5)?  It appears Obama is not counting the FL Edwards delegates.  Any info on why that is?

Thanks for the reality check, guys. The numbers tell the story. Don't know what we would've done without you!
Poor Hillary!! Please get yourself out of the misery, your own misery. Oh, well, don't worry because tomorrow the superdelegates are going to show you the way. You go girl!!! New York is waiting for you!!!
There's only reason Hillary is still in this - she and Greedy Bill are going to blackmail Obama. In exchange for her withdrawal from the race, Obama will help them pay back all that money they "gave" to their campaign.
It is my sincere hope that Hillary Clinton and her supporters will do as they have said they would do.  It is time to support the nominee.  To push forward, while it might feel good to some in the campaign will only widen the chasm.  We all know it.

Time to step back for a time-out.

Amazing!  I have never done so much math in my life with all the delegate what ifs!  It should was fun getting my kids involved in the math equations!
Hillary, FYI: since it's over; there is no reason to take your grievance to the credentials committee or Denver. All the votes have been counted per your request. You each got a half of the tally.

You have put up a valiant fight. I as a woman applaud you motivation and what you I for women who felt downtrodden and alienation. However, I disagreed with how you allowed your campaign to scar you.

I am sure now that it’s over; the Real Hillary will resurface. I know you will work your heart out for Obama, the Whitehouse, nation, and a better world.
America has Spoken! The nation can now heal as one. No Matter who is elected, there must be a driving force to move America into the future. This is to include cleaning out the derailed Congress. Never has America faded into such dark times!
A fresh breath of air, she has been defeated by common sense!!!DEFEATED!
IF IF IF obama claims to be the winner - WHY are MILLIONS of Americans VOTING for Hillary???? Seems like the PEOPLE want HILLARY - maybe because obama is NOT Qualified!
was whttington feeling sorry for her like she is or did ickes pay him off.  what a joke
It has been as Clinton reveled in defeat, and always tried to laugh it off! at no time was a election for the next President a laughing matter! Only a fool or one with out common sense act in that manner! Clinton WHO? America has spoken!
All this means nothing. Obama will lose, and by a lot, in the GE.
willthe rest of the supers please set up already. Clinton said she wont quit until the magic number is reached. So please put her out of her misery and mine.
One must not count SUPERDELEGATE votes yet.  The SDs will VOTE in Denver.  Then only their votes will count.

Commitment is NOT a vote.

Toad, please do not mislead.
I am confused, the super delegates are supposed to be more informed than I am.  Hillary has committed campaign fraud in CA.  In NC we have already convicted 2 poliicians for campaign fraud.  She is on tape admitting she did it.  She knew.  I do not understand why this is not in the media and why anyone who knows this would advise Obama to take her in his cabinet or as VP.  I get it the Clintons are "powerful"  there is an expression here tell the truth and shame hte devil"  I think it is time to tell the truth.
This wonderful! I have a huge question for MSNBC: can Obama possibly win Texas? If he puts Richardson on the ticket, Richardson can cover the spanish language media circuit with incredible velocity and possibly turn TX blue for the first time in a long time. Richardson would also help with Florida. With Texas and Florida Obama wouldn't need Ohio or Pennsylvia although he should win one of the two. What do you guys/gals think?

Obama/Richardson 08
I don't understand why superDs are still endorsing Clinton.  They can't possibly think she will prevail.  They must be thinking that they want her favor when she is back in the Senate.  That, or the female superDs are planning their own future bid for high office, and want to be on the record as supporting the first woman that came close.
Whittington is in a daze. Sure, she's the stongest to go toe to toe! I won't even call her a democrat anymore! We all see who the strong one is and that's our next President Obama!
Whittington is saving face, that's okay I will say we need all Dems at a stand to for the fall.

If he doesn't want to help, he can be a spectator as the Obama Express steam roll past him.

How does he see Clinton given that fact of her disapproval rate, the vast majority of republicans and independents supporting Obama; Clinton does not get that support.  We need all coalitions to take our country back...Whittington is not very witty if he thinks Clinton is the stronger candidate.
thx Domenico, nice job. that was just what i was looking for!
Why the Democratics leader allowing the Fl/MI added, this is make it longer premary for the party why don't let those two state go no need to count. and who ever win more deligate will be nomenee.

thanks   texan
Superdelegates,
Please make it official tomorrow nite and put us all out of our misery!!!!

Obama 08!!!
i'm listening to ludacris...move b..get out the way..get out the way..b...get out the way...move b..
Whittington is either a crook, too, or is obviously being paid-off by the Clinton Monster!
Let down Your prejudices, and fight fight fight!
I used to like the Clintons. Now I HATE them. Remember that when you rerun in 2012 you power-obsessed egomaniacs. This is one independant who wouldn't vote for a Clinton if was Chelsea running for newspaper editor!
Are you kidding me, 2 for Clinton?  That's going to be pretty embarrassing for those 2 folks when Obama hits the magic number by the end of this week.
Super-D's now is the time...you can dooo it.  Let's finish it.  Thank you very much.
I do not think Clinton is going to concede tomorrow. She does not care for anything but herself. Imagine people supporting a person of her  calibre to be the nominee for Democratic Party of this great country.  What example are we going to set for coming generation and America's standing in the World.
