Clinton: Bill lashes out at Purdum

Posted: Tuesday, June 03, 2008 9:10 AM by Mark Murray

The same Huffington Post reporter who broke the Obama “bitter” story got a new scoop yesterday of Bill Clinton lashing out at Vanity Fair’s Todd Purdum and calling him “sleazy,” “dishonest” and “slimy” for his critical magazine article on Clinton. It’s worth noting that the HuffPo reporter didn’t identify herself as a reporter and said she disliked the article when asking for his reaction.

From the piece: “Tightly gripping this reporter's hand and refusing to let go, Clinton heatedly denounced the writer, who is currently married to his former White House Press Secretary, Dee Dee Myers. ‘[He's] sleazy,’ he said referring to Purdum. ‘He's a really dishonest reporter. And one of our guys talked to him… And I haven't read [the article]. There's just five or six blatant lies in there. But he's a real slimy guy,’ the former President said. When I reminded him that Purdum was married to his former press spokesperson Myers, Clinton was undeterred. ’That's all right-- he's still a scumbag,’ Clinton said. ‘Let me tell ya--he's one of the guys -- he's one of the guys that brought out all those lies about Whitewater to Kenneth Starr. He's just a dishonest guy-- can't help it.’”

Bill continued, “‘It's just slimy. It's part of the national media's attempt to nail Hillary for Obama. It's the most biased press coverage in history. It's another way of helping Obama. They had all these people standing up in this church cheering, calling Hillary a white racist, and he didn't do anything about it. The first day he said “Ah, ah, ah well.” Because that's what they do-- he gets other people to slime her. So then they saw the movie they thought this is a great ad for John McCain -- maybe I better quit the church. It's all politics. It's all about the bias of the media for Obama. Don't think anything about it.’”

“‘But I'm telling ya, all it's doing is driving her supporters further and further away-- because they know exactly what it is-- this has been the most rigged coverage in modern history-- and the guy ought to be ashamed of himself. But he has no shame. It isn't the first dishonest piece he's written about me or her.’”

The New York Times: “By the end of the day, Mr. Clinton’s aides had issued a statement saying that he had been ‘understandably upset about an outrageously unfair article,’ but that the language he had used about Mr. Purdum ‘was inappropriate and he wishes he had not used it.’”

Reporting from South Dakota, NBC/NJ’s Mike Memoli notes that the entire Clinton clan gathered for one last primary-eve rally yesterday evening, with Hillary saying she’s counting on a grassroots effort to help her end on a strong note. “We’re being outspent four-to-one, but we’ve had something better than money and TV ads,” she said. “We’ve had thousands of South Dakotans who’ve gotten up every day and gone to work for us… And you know that by doing your part tomorrow and coming out to vote you send a strong signal that you really want to be included in helping to pick the next president of the United States.”

Clinton joked that the campaign has been such a “grueling process” that she needed Chelsea to speak for her earlier. And sure enough, later her voice faded once again. “Ah, a long campaign,” she said, as Chelsea and not Bill came on stage to relieve her. As she spoke, both parents watched on, faces beaming -- Hillary from the stage, and Bill from the floor off to the side. Hillary Clinton did return to the stage later, though, telling a hot crowd crammed into a building at the W.H. Fairgrounds that tomorrow would be “your day.”

“What is so great about this campaign is that yesterday I can be in Puerto Rico and today I can be in South Dakota,” she said. “It is a privilege and an honor to be part of making history like this. But you know, the campaign isn’t an end in itself. The campaign is to nominate the stronger candidate against Senator McCain because that’s the only way we’re going to win in November.”

"Sleazy, slimy, dishonest, scumbag". What a classic ending to a sleazy, slimy, dishonest, scumbag of a couple Bill and Hill!!! And people want her as our Vice President???? I don't think so, when you've got a classy guy like Bill on the loose. PLEASE GO AWAY!!!
My reason Not to vote for Hillary: Bill will be back in the White House. After the Monica incident, Hillary showed she had no spine. It was time to kick him to the Gutter.
Where is the outragge from the Republicant's over the statement made by that brain damaged Cheney regarding inbreeding in West Virginia??  HYPOCRISY at its best.

Let's get Todd to write an article on that.  He hasn't the guts or the talent to do so.

Talk about inbreeding.  Between Bush and Cheney I'm not sure who wins that contest, but can only imagine who fornicated with what to produce those freaks of nature.

P.S.  However, you did vote for that freak WV!, so deal with it.
The reporter who asked Bill Clinton this question quite literally had an agenda -- to slime him -- arguably this has been a pretty easy task in this campaign.  The Obama campaign, together with MSM and the online media has had this agenda for months -- try to get one of the Clintons or their surrogates to say something off-putting and then get it into the cable news cycle as quickly as possible.   I must say the Obama campaign has been quite successful at this.

Unfortunately, the you-tubed images of the insane rants at Obama's Trinity Church may be enough to put off even the most ardent Democrats from ever voting for him, despite his 'resignation' from the church a few days ago.

Those images at Trinity, showing the extreme lack of judgment of Obama in his personal life for 20 years, coupled with his lack of ANY experience or ANY demonstrable track record in government, compounded by his EXTREMELY slow reaction time to distancing himself from Trinity, his failure to apologize to Hillary for the raucous rant and reaction of his  congregation in response to the substitute priest last week, is enough to prove to some that he has no ability to unify the country behind his government.  His 20 year embrace of black separatism belies his pretty words.
First, Bill's right about Pardum.  The guy is a scumbag. It's an article full of nothing but unsourced innuendo.

Secondly, he's right that the media, especially MSDNC have been in the tank for Obama.
after every major hillary win, its silence from the media, biased isnt the word for this coverage, the media put obama in the nomination to the delight of the republicans who know will show obamas true "colors" unlike hillary who was not able to do.this guy in an opertunist , a black muslim in a $200 mens warehouse suit!
Hearing Bill make such ridiculous statements simply reminds me of why neither he nor Hillary should ever lead anything, let alone a country.  As the saying goes, character comes to the surface when adversity strikes.  Regardless if one supports Obama, one thing is certain, he always acts with class and dignity, something the Clintons always lack.  And, the louder we shout at a perceived wrong, the more likely it is that the wrong is actually a truth.
I agree - the media dissed Sen. Clinton from the start.  The media is responsible for the inevitable nomination of Sen. Obama - and I will continue to support Sen. Clinton with a write-in vote.  If that elects McCain, I don't care.   The fault lies with the media for the most biased reporting I've ever experienced.  I no longer trust the media, period.
I think Former President Clinton has every right to be very angry at this particular writer. This guys will print or write anything without proof or evidence to substantiate their accusations. I am an African American and I am ashamed to see all those people clapping and cheering when racist and offensive things are being said and preached in of all places a church. Racism has two faces and blacks should look in the mirror.
It was glaring even to a blind person the national press never wanted Hillary. Emotinal sentiments apart, she knows what she wants to do, how to do it and where to get the money from. Obama never convinced me throughout the debates. I'll vote for him because he's the better of two devils. Bill, take heart every thing happens for reason.
Pot, let me introduce you to Kettle.
true colors ? mad about somthing ?  HAHAHAHAA !!! now about Sent. Osama Obama and his mentor the Rev."Stomp the whitey" Wright. talk about true colors showing through...man...if I had a nickel for every time Obama has bashed white America and Jewish America , and for every time his "former" Pastor and Spiritual Advisor has bashed America , I wouldn`t have to work for a living. ...  Look at the Red flags America before you vote a black man who was mentored by another black man who has shown a clean disdain for America,Jewish Americans and White Americans...you can bet your bippy that 20 years of listening to that rhetoric has rubbed off on him and his family, and once "if" in power will "change" America , oh I bet he will.
Bill Clinton is a clown that should have been thrown out of the White House right when it was discovered that he had intercourse in the holiest place of the US government. He has no morals, ethics or respect for the presidency.  He is a pseudo-intellectual, jazz-fake musician-bufoon that cost his wife the presidency.  He will also cost his daughter any healthy prospects for a descent political career.  Several publications have portrayed the Clintons as persistent fighters, cool thinkers with smart business sense.  They have wasted millions of dollars pursuing a dream that belongs to honest people like Obama and McCain.
I'm just a little curious just how the national media will defend itself.  Although I disagree with the way Bill Clinton said it or when and how, the media these days are doing their best to create news and headlines and if anyone thinks that they have not shown a lean over the last four months their candidate is getting the positive attention.

I long for the Huntley-Brinkley news hour once again when the media reported the news and didn't try to convince the country that they were right and others were wrong.

The media can be a wonderful institution, if it realizes its importance and understands the need for honest representation, and objectivity.  Unfortunately, I see it speeding into an editorial page.

It is time for the media to reflect and hopefully go back to the days when they didn't spend the majority of their time in analysis and worry about ratings.  Partial analysis by a selective media few which we have definitely seen this last half year and worry about ratings leads to only one thing (bias), and suggests that Americans aren't smart enough to make decisions on their own.

For most of us, Barack's church is NOT news.  What someone writes about Hillary's husband is NOT news.  That Edwards wife is battling cancer is a human interest story, but NOT news.  McCain's health probably is.  There's plenty of news out there, like the 4000 soldiers who will never return home, the thousands of maimed that have had their lives changed, the hundreds of thousands Americans that are barely scraping by, AND what each candidate running for president actually stands for.  MEDIA, you have missed the boat.  And it really is too bad.

Everything we see is all lies, nobody knows what goes on behind the curtain. the people go from choosing george bush, a complete moron, to choosing a black guy? the whole thing is rigged mr. bill clinton.
Hilary and Bill are not trust worthy they are not driven by the wants and needs of Americans. It is all about power. Would any guy want Mr. Bill any where near their wife’s or daughters. He is the Sleaze in this story, he is the slime he is ridicules, sad and pathetic. He is and will always be, a low life, lying, womanizing, scum bag. He sure shows his true colors when you tick him off. Chelsea must be so proud.
