Posted: Tuesday, June 03, 2008 2:00 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC's Domenico Montanaro
Five delegates for Obama since last update.

Obama got two more superdelegates and one more Edwards pledged after they were contacted by Rep. Jim Clyburn, who endorsed Obama earlier today: Rep. John Spratt and New York's Ralph Dawson, a member of the DNC's Rules, and Bylaws Committee. The Edwards delegate is E. Tim Moore, a lawyer from South Carolina.

Two more supers: Ohio's Joyce Beatty and Maine's Jennifer DeChant.

This makes 10 supers and one Edwards delegate for the day for Obama.

COUNTDOWN TO THE NOMINATON:
OBAMA: 29
CLINTON: 198

The NBC NEWS Delegate Counts:
PLEDGED: Obama 1729 to 1625

AP tally shows Obama has delegates he needs, but will Clinton concede?
From staff and wire reports
1:39 PM EDT, June 3, 2008
WASHINGTON - Barack Obama effectively clinched the Democratic presidential nomination Tuesday, based on an Associated Press tally of convention delegates, becoming the first black candidate ever to lead his party into a fall campaign for the White House.
Keep it coming Sen. Obama! Thank you Super Delegates!
Yeah! OHIO!!!!!!!
The AP is reporting (30 minutes ago) that Obama has already gone over the top.
I've a feeling this is going to be the story all day long.
Keep 'em comin'!!

YES WE CAN!!
Obama '08/'12
Simply wonderful.  Please keep the very good news coming.

A reminder to anyone who has forgotten.  We are currently engaged in the 5th year of a war of choice that should never have been authorized, and should never have been waged.  The cost to our Country in blood and treasure is immeasurable.

Senator Obama was a voice against this absurd waste of life and treasure before this War ever began and when it was politically dangerous to oppose this War:

In Senator Barack Obama's own words before this war began:

"What I am opposed to is a dumb war.  A war based not on reason but on passion, not on principle but on politics."

Won't it be wonderful to have a President who has the political courage and judgment to tell the truth and act on it?  Yes we can -- America you can believe it!

Obama '08!!!
Fred McDowell a half superdelegate from florida who had been for edwards just endorsed Obama .  So it should be 10 and a half.
I can remember so well watching Chris Matthews in Springfield, IL in February 2007 on a freezing cold day that Saturday as Senator Obama stood there with Michelle and his two daughters and announced his candidacy for the President of the United States.  You couldn’t help but wonder at the time if perhaps someday we would be able to look back at its significance.

Now we know.

I never thought he would be able to secure the nomination. Hillary Clinton was just too well known.

What we have learned today is that the old ways of doing business in Washington DC just aren’t going to work any longer. The county will not stand for it.

We really do want change. Today proved it beyond any doubt.
YES YES YES!!!!!

Obama 08!
Let's go supers -

You think about 15 more to go?
Praise God! Praying for Barack's safety, health and perseverance. Praying for unity in the party.
Obama and Clinton both have fought hard and fairly. Shake hands, and be friends.
I am from Kansas and we have a democratic congressman Dennis Moore. When the caucus in this state was 80% for Obama, I am ashamed that he has not come out for Obama already. This only makes him look bad. By the way, Kansas is going Democratic this year.
Thank goodness this is finally nearing an end.  I and my friends and family are looking forward to a time when we no longer have the specter of Hillary Clinton looming...

It's a spooky feeling....

http://midwestmoms.blogspot.com
AP, MSNBCNews, and a hand full of political sites are stating that as many as 20 SDs will declare for Obama tonight/tomorrow morning (meaning they have privately backed Obama already. Speculation is tonight so he can declare he has the nomination in tonights speech)....

Should be interesting to see things "play out" tonight.....
I know everyone is tiptoeing around trying to be extra kind to the HRC camp and that is how it should be, but........YAHOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!!!! THOSE OF US ON THE OBAMA SIDE HAVE ALSO FOUGHT LONG AND HARD ALL THESE MONTHS AND DESERVE TO CELEBRATE! I gave Obama '08 t-shirts for Xmas 2 years ago and with all due respect plan a hell of a celebration before the real work begins.
Thank you, God ... and thanks to the Super-D's who had the courage to help put us over the top!

OBAMA '08 & '12
IF OBAMA IS NOMINATED, I WILL CERTAINLY SUPPORT A
REPUBLICAN FOR PRESIDENT OF THE USA, AS I HOPE MANY MORE WILL.  CLINTON IS THE ONLY ONE THAT CAN BEAT
THE REBUBLICIAN
Yeah!

I will be thinking of my First Read friends (Pete, Lisa from CT, Democrat Solider, donna, Leni, Capt. Smash, MF Sierra, and so many others!) and my ideological foes (Nobama, HP, patty, Paul from Indy) when I watch the coverage tonight!

A new day is dawning...are you ready for it?
BRING ON MCSAME!!!!!!

Obama '08
so you mean all this time all they needed was rep. jim clyburn to call superdelegates and they would just endorse like that.  I wish he would have endorsed obama a while ago then this could have been over a while ago.

I just read that he had clinched the nomination.
Everyone please be patient about Hillary's concession, she is probably afraid no one will show up, if she does it in advance. She wants as many of her supporters there at one time so she can break it to them gentle. We dont want a bunch of distraught Hillary supporters we need them votes too. Hillary has to release them from her Sith Lord mind tricks soon.Bill has to pick him out some keepers as well.
Great!  The DNC needs to put together a much more compact schedule next time around, though.  The only group that profits from a race like this are corporate news organizations and the advertising agencies.  Sen. Levin of Michigan is right that Iowa and New Hampshire shouldn't be allowed the same position in the order every election cycle.  Join together democrats and let's stomp the snot out of the republicants and their sorry record and promise of more of the same.
What an exciting day!

Wonder what tonight will bring?

Chuck and crew...keep up... there are some fiesty supporters out here.  Thanks for all you all do!

The Democratic Party Of the United States just made history!!! Congratulations Sen. Obama!!!
Jim Clyburn, the House Whip, is working the phones today.

I love this.

Senator Obama has been fighting alone, against a powerful Clinton machine, all the repubs, both political, and pundit, for ao long.

It is just the most precious thing, to me, that he is getting this kind of help now!

I can hardly see to type, through the tears.

Clyburn, the giant statesman, does that to me you know.
As a Clinton supporter, I can't wait until she stops seeking the Democratic nomination for president.  Then the Obama supporters won't be able to continue blame her for EVERYTHING THAT IS WRONG WITH AND IN THE ENTIRE WORLD.  And everyone will start to see moving forward that her supporters are NOT going to support Obama.

So go ahead and give Obama the nomination.  And then sit back and watch Obama kill himself trying to get the support of Clinton supporters which people have minimized for months and months now and think they won't really matter, but at the same time say Obama can't win without.

Obama Will LOSE in November!
Just want to say, that Senator Clinton turned out to be one heck of a tough candidate and surpassed any expectations I had for her as a candidate.  I will also say that once she tossed Mark Penn out, her campaign staff did a great job.  I am going to be thrilled to have her folks helping put a democrat in the White House.
Soon.. Very soon!!

If these remaining superwimps had any guts they should cast thier votes already for either candidate.
So Obama can know who they are, and what thye stand for.
Congratulations Senator Obama!

You have truly EARNED the Democratic Nomination for President of the United States, and I couldn't be prouder!

Obama'08/'12

P.S. I refuse to let the focus of this day be "What will Hillary do?" No matter what she does, it doesn't detract from the fact that this is the Obama campaign's triumphant moment - and no amount of spin from the Clinton campaign in gonna change that.
If these remaining superwimps had any guts they should cast thier votes already for either candidate.
So Obama can know who they are, and what thye stand for.
Only one fear left: he chooses Billary as a running mate.
Remember Clinton trolls...get your expense reports in by the end of the week!  Wouldn't want you to not get paid for all your posts!

LOL!
I feel that train o comin . People get ready for that love train .Time for us to move forward and unite as One People One Aim and One Destiny.  To join hands as Brothers and Sisters of this great nation. To leave all regard for race ,gender and sexual preference behind us, and see people as people . A person as a person .  I am trully proud to be an American.
The day isn't over yet is it? More! We want More!
Congratulations to Mr. Obama and to all of you out there supporting him. Love beats hate and truth beats deceit. Proud to be an Obama supporter.

Oh, does anybody know a way to abolish the electoral college so my vote will count here? Antiquated and unfair.!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you SD's, thank you God, thank you America, this is a defining moment in our history, I can feel it, I know Hillary has paved the way for successful women candidates in the future and we, as women are grateful to her for that, but Democrats, our nominee is Barack Obama, he represents our best hope of fundamental change in Washington that has seemed forever mired in the ways of old politics.  If you will give yourselves the chance to get excited about that possibility I know you will be able to embrace his ideas and help us as citizens of this great country to "be the change we want to see".  YES WE CAN!!!!!!
Yes we did!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There is'nt a dry eye in the room.

But then again, I've been alone sitting at this computer for months!
To Quote the late great Johnny Cash...

I hear the train a rollin... it's rollin round the bend... and I ain't seen the sunshine since I don't know when...

I can feel the Change in the air and what a relief it is... Yes we Will!
For everyone saying it's over, no I don't think so.

It's just beginning, you'll see!
Heavenly Outstanding - now we Democrats have some healing to do and a caused to pursue.  All Hillary and Barack supporters must unite.  Set aside our personal agendas, prejudices and collaborate on the agenda of change and a better America for us all.

John McCain offers only the same and we all know that - we can’t afford the same - not anymore, after almost 8 years of the GOP and still currently each day gets more and more stressful and difficult for us Americans.  The Bush administration will do nothing else this year beside try to bleed us for all the money they can and use part of it to help try to get John McCain elected so they can continue to bleed us for our money.

As, they make excuses and blame other so that they can continue to have their "market partner" rise oil prices so they can continue their greed.

We need them out...our livelihood depends on it - they care nothing about the average American.  We are their work-abies.

The GOP is running this country like a cooperation.  The American citizen to them are employees...they monopolizes the markets - causes prices to raise and U.S. to work harder so we can give them more money.  There is no more competition -they control the market.

We need Barack Obama and the Democratic Party to step in and sit guidelines that protect U.S.  We need competition again so the market can be fair and not controlled.  We need a Government that will do what it was designed to do govern its people, by the will of its people. Not, use its people for the will of the government.

The Bush/Cheney administration and GOP has basically turn our Democracy in a form of a dictatorship with a communistic flavor of Government - they don't care about what we need or want anymore...they want us to do what they want and that's not the way it should work.

They have had us working for them for the past 7 years.  Finally we have a chance for the government to start working for U.S.  Let's not blow it

Vote for the Democratic Party - vote Barack Obama

Thank you and GOD Bless America

It truly saddens me that their are people out there who won't vote for obama in the GE  because they're candidate(hillary)didn't win.If we americans do not come together as a country to defeat the failed policies of the bush administration then america will become isolated as a nation.Folks don't fool yourselfs we cannot go it alone in this world. We must begin talking to people to try and iron out out differences. This is what obama is saying.
Since so many in the media and so many of the Obama supporters don't believe the polls that show how many of the Clinton supporters will not vote for Obama, I encourage everyone who will not support Obama to spend less time writing comments on First Read and use that time to write a letter to Obama and tell him that you will never vote for him and why and send copies of the letter to all the major news organizations via mail or email.

Obama's campaign headquarters address is:

Senator Barack Obama
Obama for America
P.O. Box 8102
Chicago, IL 60680

Use your time to let everyone know that all of Hillary Clinton’s supporters, all 18 million of them, do not appreciate the many, many months of continuous attacks and insults from the rude and arrogant Obama supporters on Senator Clinton and her supporters.   Let them know that no amount of reaching out, reinventing or re-introducing himself will undo the damage that his supporters have done.
