McCain: Congratulating Obama

Posted: Thursday, June 05, 2008 9:22 AM by Mark Murray

Per NBC/NJ’s Adam Aigner-Treworgy, McCain called Obama last night at 7:00 pm ET to congratulate him. They had a "cordial conversation," Obama spokeswoman Linda Douglass confirmed, and then said that they "look forward to having a civil conversation in the campaign going forward."

Politico writes about the concerns in McCain’s camp about Obama’s money machine. “Take a look at some of the numbers:
• If each of Obama’s donors gave him a modest $250, he’d have $375 million to spend during the two-month general election sprint. That’s $186 million a month; $47 million a week.
• During the same September to Nov. 4th period, McCain will have about $85 million to spend since he has decided to take taxpayer money to help finance his campaign activities.
• The Republican National Committee, which is charged with closing the gap between McCain and Obama, has $40 million in cash. Obama raised almost as much — $31 million – from just his small donors in the month of February. His total for the month, $57 million, exceeded the RNC’s cash balance.
• Obama has more than 1.5 million donors; McCain has a few hundred thousand. If just a million of Obama’s donors sent him the maximum donation, $2,300, he could raise $2.3 billion.”

Reuters: "Republican presidential candidate John McCain proposed on Wednesday that Democrat Barack Obama join him in at least 10 face-to-face encounters at town hall meetings this summer. Obama's campaign reacted positively to the idea, but suggested a few tweaks."

The AP: "McCain said the more intimate town hall format, a give-and-take between a candidate and the audience, allows real interaction and is more revealing than formal televised debates. He held 101 town hall meetings in New Hampshire before winning the primary there and launching his climb to the GOP nomination."

Yeah, McCain we will keep it civil as long as you talk about the issues.

Gutter politics will not work this year.
McClain seems ready for business!  Before Obama can get settled in good to the dem nomination, McClain is requesting a challenge!  I respect that McClain!!!

Obama will definitely be ready and prepared!  This is Obama's year!

Money makes the World go Around!  Barack Obama is going to smother "Bush Hugger" McCain with campaign cash.  It's going to be fun playing payback after getting whacked by all that repugnant one's money the past two general election cycles.  A classic case of the Prince and the Pauper.

I bet that the boring old man doesn't have more than 1 townhall debate with Barack Obama because Barack is going to make him look stupid and pathetic.  The grumpy old man has to rely on Obama bringing in the people.

Go Obama 08/12!
Transcript of the conversation:

McCain: Heh, great speech.
Obama:  Yeah, you too!  heh-heh-heh
obama studders, and says ah, ahh umm ALOT when he is not using a teleprompter.  he can do a good speech because he is reading it, but he is not good at a one on one discussion.  he better practice-up.
how nice of mccain i wonder what the tone of that conversation was.

Obamacans let's get ready to save our dollars and suport the Democratic party in the general election. I am so excited! I must tell you this was the first time in my life I ever contributed to a presidential campaign and it felt great.  Love our party and love our nominee that's the American way. Have a great day!
I really believe Obama should take-up McCain's townhall challenge, but I don't think it should be 10 townhalls. That is over-doing it a bit. I think 3 or 5 is sufficient. Afterall, Obama has A LOT of groundwork to accomplish. Obama needs to roll-up his sleaves and go door-to-door introducing himself to voters, especially the so-called "working-class White voters". He cannot do this if he is having all of these townhall meetings. I have hope that Obama will crush McCain in the townhalls.
McCain is full of.....let's just say marlarky!!!

That mean old man, stood up there, Tuesday night, and through his dog grin, announced that Obama's nomination, was 'given' to him by the pundits, and party elders!

Obama was right to smack McCain in the mouth, Tuesday night, for not being willing to acknowledge his accomplishments!

Just like he voted against the Martin Luther King Holiday. This proves that all of his apologetic rhetoric, down in Memphis on the anniversary of MLK's assassination,  was a filthy, pandering lie.

Those of you giving him kudos for 'showing up' that day were too eager to trust John the Mchardhearted.
This is really the story of the Good, the Bad and The Ugly (McCain. The Obama Trauma. and Michelle Obama.)
First let me say this " Thank you Hillary Clinton for a hard fought campaign against my candidate, You are a true fighter and an asset to the Democratic Party."There have been many bitter words between Obama supporters and Clinton supporters , heck we had two damn great candidates. Since Hillary is about to concede and endorse Obama I pray that her supporters will think about the facts .  1) Obama and Hillary have very close ideas , that is why it was such a close race. 2) Voting for  John McBush is like voting for Bush , and now he says if he wins he will go for 8 yrs versus 4 yrs. 3) You find that the Maverick that John McBush used to be until until 2000 has vanished. He is in lockstep with Bush policies.

I hope that McCain will try to be as honorable as he claims he will but I doubt it. His speak pose and grin is down right creepy looking. If you wonder who he looks like think Dana Carveys  Turtleman in the dumb movie Master of Disguise.

Once again time to unite the Democrats .
The righteous (Obama-Democrats) considers the cause of the poor, but the wicked (McCain-Bush-Republicans) does not understand such Knowledge.

McCain can't be trusted. He is Mr. flipflop and his ideas are bad anyway you look at them.

Stand up for America and the world.

Vote Obama.
As an Independent, I must confess that I sent a total of $358.00 to Senator Obama's campaign this year. I did so after he fared so well on Super Tuesday and the "inevitable" candidate Hillary Clinton was being held in check. Knowing how many states he can put into play this year will prompt me to sent him another $500.00 so he can continue to bring young people into the process. The more people (especially the young ones) that get involved, the better off we all are. I can't wait to see the contrasts between the two Senators and I hope the entire country stays involved. Let the race for the White House begin and congratulations Mr Obama on your historic nomination. As a 55-year-old man I never thought I would see this day in American politics and it makes me proud.
So the money is what worries the McCain party. It's going to be a long 5 months for the repubs.Where are all there big money players, are they giving to Obama? So the Bomber has a problem with groups of more then a couple Hundred! If he wants Obama to do this he will have to get use to the fact that Thousands of his supporters will show up.I saw the rope line at the bombers event the other day. There was about 50 people and only one deep. You all saw the rope at the Obama event, people standing twenty deep, hands of all colors mixed together, hands just wanting to shake his hand.
McCain has a problem with his speaking ability.  It always feels to me that he is reading a story to a 6 year old and it's always one he's never read before.... It drives me crazy and I never want to listen to what he has to say.  He knows he is better off when he is just talking and responding...
Obama speaking ability is so much better...
Hey g'pa', Obama says ah,ahh, umm a lot because he is actually thinking before he speaks, something Mccain can't do...bomb bomb bomb Iran.
Bring it on Mcbush. Now that Hillary is off his back, you absolutely got no chance. I'm so looking forward to the debates talking about all the issues our beloved country is facing at the moment.
In case you missed it, a review of Uncle Fluffy's speech from Tuesday night...

Obama does better at a podium, but I'm still betting, that, unless Mcbane is setting up some ambush/dirty trick, he could still run circles arond the old guy in a town-hal format. For one thing, Mcwar gets agitated and angry easily and Obama stays cool and unflappable.
bush/cheney/rove/rummy and now mccant, 4 more years of doing anything and everything WRONG and being proud of it.
