From NBC/NJ's Athena Jones and NBC's Mark Murray
As mentioned earlier, McCain met with Iraqi foreign minister Hoshyar Zebari on Sunday.

And today, the Iraqi official spoke with Obama, a campaign spokesperson just said.

This is good. Talk is good. After we talk, then I have a better chance to know where you are coming from, and what your intentions are, versus trying to read your mind. Especially if my mind reading skills are skewed toward prejudice.
He probably told Obama that his platform is a losing strategy for Iraq.
Every since Obama clinched the dem nod the MSM has been covering how the potential of him being elected impacts the whole world.Germany, Japan, Iraq, Iran,Africa,Canada,France,Uk,Ireland .....etc. are heavily pro-Obama.As a matter a fact when the whole continent of Europe is polled Obama is favored in almost every country. For all the slow people on this blog & america in general, HINT HINT ,Europe is sick of the GOP & OUR USE  OF COWBOY DIPLOMACY.Their ardent support of Obama should tell every american "WAKE UP, GET YOUR HEAD OUT YOUR A$$"..............................................................................WE ARE STILL WAITING FOR A COUNTRY TO PROCLAIM SUPPORT FOR MCCAIN!
Good to see Barack is getting his chance to talk with an Iraqi official.  I'm sure that "Bush Hugger" McCain isn't happy that the Iraqis are balking at signing on for "War Lover" Bush's long term base agreement.  Apparently the Iraqis aren't too interested in allowing US troops and more importantly contractors like Blackwater to run roughshod through their country with no legal complications.  As always the repugnant ones talk big about law and order yet are quick to operate lawlessly whenever and whereever they can.

I bet the Iraqis would rather have Barack Obama to deal with than the puppetmaster's lap dog.  "Democracy Hater" Bush just wants the Iraqis to be his loyal little puppets who will do anything he tells them to.

Go Lakers!
Thanks Tim!
Go Obama 08/12!
Obama needs to counter McCain's foreign policy attacks with more than just "I opposed Iraq from the beginning."  He needs to show that McCain's experience is irrelevant on foreign policy, since McCain was sitting in a prison cell when in Vietnam and never fired a single shot, and he graduated at the bottome of his military academy.  Also needs to highlight McCain is no diplomat, but an angry old man with a temper that gets more bitter as his depends fills up.
Both conversations would have been fascinating to listen in on.
That was probably a brief conversation, because Obama is incapable of talking about anything but change.  Can't define change, of course, but he's sure good at talking about it!

Double talk express takes to a different level.

Dear American Voters,

Hon. Senator McCain and Obama, besides each having  many attributes and characteristics. The critical differences between the two of these presidential presumptive nominees are as under:

1. Presidential "Temperament and Composer".
2. Little Washington "insider Versus outsider" experience.
3. "Vision and mission" for our nation future rather than past.
4. American policies, " first U.S.A Centric" than any other country [ ies ] centric.

In my professional opinion  Senator Obama leads in all above qualities.

The need of our next movement and generation is a change. The Change in " past Washington and its Leadership". A change we can believe in and not the seductive, deceptive, and confusing slogan of "leader we can believe in" [? Effexor ?".

Our Greatgrand Nation has to address many present and future challenges and start with  new clean "Slate and Senator".

God Bless America. its diverse people, and our Greatgrand Nation.

Our Greatgrand Nation is needs the CHANGE at every level and for long time.

I am sure Senator Obama with the help of Senator Clinton and her supporters, can deliver that CHANGE.

Please stay involved, stay engaged, and stay informed. Please do not allow any seduction, deception, and or confusion by some partisan media and leaders effect your vote [ Psychological Terrorism ]..

Yours truly,

Obama's first question was probably... if you feel the surge is working, tell me what significant agreements has your government signed?

From the Politico:

'...Historians see little chance for McCain

By DAVID PAUL KUHN | 6/15/08 7:05 AM EST

The election may be close now, but the historical precedents don’t look good for the Republican.

One week into the general election, the polls show a dead heat. But many presidential scholars doubt that John McCain stands much of a chance, if any.

Historians belonging to both parties offered a litany of historical comparisons that give little hope to the Republican. Several saw Barack Obama’s prospects as the most promising for a Democrat since Roosevelt trounced Hoover in 1932.

“This should be an overwhelming Democratic victory,” said Allan Lichtman, an American University presidential historian who ran in a Maryland Democratic senatorial primary in 2006. Lichtman, whose forecasting model has correctly predicted the last six presidential popular vote winners, predicts that this year, “Republicans face what have always been insurmountable historical odds.” His system gives McCain a score on par with Jimmy Carter’s in 1980.

“McCain shouldn’t win it,” said presidential historian Joan Hoff, a professor at Montana State University and former president of the Center for the Study of the Presidency. She compared McCain’s prospects to those of Hubert Humphrey, whose 1968 loss to Richard Nixon resulted in large part from the unpopularity of sitting Democratic president Lyndon Johnson.

“It is one of the worst political environments for the party in power since World War II,” added Alan Abramowitz, a professor of public opinion and the presidency at Emory University. His forecasting model — which factors in gross domestic product, whether a party has completed two terms in the White House and net presidential approval rating — gives McCain about the same odds as Adlai Stevenson in 1952 and Carter in 1980 — both of whom were handily defeated in elections that returned the presidency to the previously out-of-power party. “It would be a pretty stunning upset if McCain won,” Abramowitz said.

What’s more, Republicans have held the presidency for all but 12 years since the South became solidly Republican in the realignment of 1968 — which is among the longest runs with one party dominating in American history. “These things go in cycles,” said presidential historian Robert Dallek, a professor at the University of California at Los Angeles. “The public gets tired of one approach to politics. There is always a measure of optimism in this country, so they turn to the other party.”

That desire for change also tends to manifest itself at the end of a president’s second term. Only twice in the 20th century has a candidate from the same party as a two-term president won the presidency, most recently in 1988, when George H.W. Bush replaced the term-limited Ronald Reagan, who was about twice as popular in the last year of his presidency as President George W. Bush is now.

But the biggest obstacle in McCain’s path may be running in the same party as the most unpopular president America has had since at least the advent of modern polling. Only Harry Truman and Nixon — both of whom were dogged by unpopular wars abroad and political scandals at home — have been nearly as unpopular in their last year in office, and both men’s parties lost the presidency in the following election...'

I hope Obama was smart enough to ask this guy, "What have you guys done for US lately?"  They all seem to sit around endlessly squabbling and throwing monkey-wrenches into U.S. proposals...and then taking log vacations. So, I hope Obama also said, "We'd better see results during my presidency, or you guys are on your own!"  Mcwar sure won't lay down a little home truths to these guys, so I hope Obama did.

John McCain, Endless War

'...Losing his reputation for independence could prove particularly costly this year...

From Huff Post:

'...McCain has diluted his rare reputation

By PAUL WEST | WASHINGTON BUREAU CHIEF
June 15, 2008

John McCain once had the most powerful brand in American politics.

He was often called the country's most popular politician and widely admired for his independent streak. It wasn't too many years ago that "maverick" was the cliche of choice in describing him.

But that term didn't even make the list this year when voters were asked by the Pew Research Center to sum up McCain in a single word. "Old" got the most mentions, followed  "honest, " "experienced,"  "patriot,"  "conservative" and a dozen more.

The words "independent," "change" or "reformer" weren't among them.

Voters have notoriously short memories, but it could be argued that McCain cheapened his own brand.

He embraced President Bush and attempted to become, like Bush, the choice of the Republican establishment. In the process, he helped obliterate recollections of his first run for president, when he became the first Republican in a long time with strong crossover appeal to independents and Democrats.

Losing his reputation for independence could prove particularly costly this year...'

It's an important meeting for Senator Obama and one that should be very educational for Minister Zebari.  He's going to learn that the Iraqi governments days of irresponsibility are going to come to an end.  He's going to learn that U.S. soldiers are not going to continue dying for 100 years while they sit around and play Democratic Gov't 101 and fail.
and he knows ALL ABOUT 'voodoo exonomics'....

From TPM Election Central:

'...Is Bobby Jindal -- Who May Be On McCain's Veep Shortlist -- An Exorcist?
By Eric Kleefeld and Kate Klonick - June 11, 2008, 4:42PM
Bobby Jindal, the 36-year old governor of Louisiana, is being taken seriously by the national press as a candidate on the shortlist to be John McCain's Vice President. No one doubts that he's a political prodigy -- his impressive resume includes stints as president of the state university system, a Congressman and now governor.

But one of Jindal's job titles hasn't gotten much attention -- and it just might prompt a few questions if his Veep candidacy gains steam: Exorcist.

As others noted during his 2003 and 2007 gubernatorial campaigns (see update), in an essay Jindal wrote in 1994 for the New Oxford Review, a serious right-wing Catholic journal, Jindal narrated a bizarre story of a personal encounter with a demon, in which he participated in an exorcism with a group of college friends. And not only did they cast out the supernatural spirit that had possessed his friend, Jindal wrote that he believes that their ritual may well have cured her cancer....'

Bobby Jindal, Fights crime ! Cures Cancer ! and Gets tax cuts for the Rich !

I hope obama told Zebari to get his ducks in a row because our troops will be coming home soon
I hope all dems are aware that most of the negative remarks on liberal/lefty sites are coming from REPUBLICANS.

Go on a weak site like CNN & it's blatantly obvious.

In a desperate attempt to salvage this cycle, the right has a concerted effort to win the net battle thru infiltration & impersonation.

Hoping to influence the media on game changing stories, for example the number of Clinton supporters now for McCain.

While I can't quantitatively prove this, if you follow the posts of certain bloggers, it's obvious their slant has always been to the right, despite claiming to be dems, & constant messages of chaos & disunity are their mainstay.

The media doesn't seem to notice this, but if it changes perception of key stories and sways 1-2 percent, it's Florida 2000 all over again.

Dems: Beware false prophets.
So what was the excitement about yesterday with john McCain the Iraq politician is just doing his rounds , nom gain here or there.
I'm glad to know that Senator Obama is just as accesible as McCain thinks he is.  Did McCain go to church on Sunday?  I would like to know that.  Senator Obama did.  I would also like to respond to the republican ads in MI, and to let them know that I think the entire republican party has insulted " Every Americans way of life"  Just look at this economy and all of the adjustments that are having to be made on a daily basis.  The current republicans in office have caused more grief and hardship than any person or group on American soil.  It is way past time for a change in our government.

Obama 08
Good.  Both of them should be speaking with the Iraqis.  Let them make our expectations known.

Why aren't any MAJOR news outlets reporting about the meeting between the President of Iran and the President of Iraq last week where they kissed?

How is that not a big story?  Are we not surprised that the American people are so ignorant to global politics, even the ones where we spend blood and treasure?
[Red] and blue. And who knows which is which, and who is who.
Up and Down. And in the end it's only round and round and round.
(Pink Floyd, with one relevant word change by me)

To bloggers from all sides of this election:
You're all being hypocrites, filled with righteous indignation that you believe gives you the right to hate each other. I salute those of you who present positive opinions and facts to support the stories. But some of you seem to want to push hate, fear, your distorted views of things, counter-hate because you think someone hates you, or even just blatant ignorance.

Look, do me a favor: before you start typing, take just 3 minutes to think quietly about WHY you feel the way you do... is it worth it? The fact is that the MSM, bloggers like myself, and casual readers are LAUGHING at you. The machismo, baseless accusations, poor spelling/grammar/syntax, and general ignorance of your posts make you a caricature much akin to a comic strip, and we're all amused.

But at the same time, we're worried that the qualities your showing will send us back to the dark ages and help us de-evolve in the eyes of the world. We're scared that knowledge, the ability to articulate, and respectful argument will all be shunned in favor of mob mentality, blindly following hate, and arrogance.

Make us feel better and do that thinking I mentioned. You owe all the candidates that much.

Thank you for posting this, MSNBC.
Let's hope that Senator Obama warned Zebari that signing on to Bush's "Status Of Forces <strike>Treaty</strike> Agreement" would be a very bad idea, and that his administration will not consider it to be a binding treaty (because there would have been no Senate confirmation, as required by the Constitution) if they do.

Iraqi public opinion is pretty much unanimously against it anyway, so such an  admonition would really serve as reassurance for Zebari and Maliki that doing what their people want them to do is the right thing to do.

BFD...Tell this dude to stop fronting as a politician....get his butt back to his country and DO SOMETHING constructive to help us GET OUT OF THERE!

He was invivted by McFossil I can Assure you!

GO HOME AND FIGHT FOR YOUR NATION LOSER!
Perhaps Mcsame had the courage to ask him why parts of the Iraqi government are playing footsie with the Iranian government?

Of course bush never did get around to asking the dictator in pakistan why his government was playing footsie with the taliban and osama bin forgotten.

Who says mccain isn't a third bush term?
Coincidence? Slip of the tongue? I doubt it.........

You are aware, probably, that Barack Obama lost his bearings recently and said that he was going to campaign in all 57 states.  You heard this?  And everybody chalked it up to, "Well, he's tired."

Barack Obama says he's gonna go out and campaign in 57 states, he was just tired, you know, it's been such a long campaign, he's been so many places, he probably thinks there are 57 states.  Well, I have here a printout from a website called the International Humanist and Ethical Union.  And here is how the second paragraph of an article on that website begins.  "Every year from 1999 to 2005 the organization of the Islamic conference representing the 57 Islamic states presented a resolution to the United Nations commission on human rights called combating."  And the title of the piece here is, "How the Islamic states dominate the UN human rights council," and there are 57 of them.

Obama said he's going to campaign in 57 states, and it turns out that there are 57 Islamic states.  There are 57 Islamic states.   So did Obama just lose his bearings, or was this a more telling slip, ladies and gentlemen?
Is this a report?  Was this an OPEN DOOR meeting?  Or was it 'behind closed doors' as First Read chose to wnrite in the article about McCain's meeting with Zebari yesterday, to which all the Obamatrons started carrying on about transparency.  Will Obama even make a statement now?  Or talk to our military leaders in Iraq?  or go to Iraq and see anything for himself so we know whether to even listen to him when he talks about it?
I'm sure Hoshyar found Obama a man to reckon with. After the meeting I'll bet Hoshyar thought to himself "we Iraqi's had better get our shit together because this guy (Obama) is serious about not losing one more Amercian life". And after meeting with both McCain and Obama I'm sure Hoshyar also thoguht to himself, "with McCain we will continue to get a free ride. With Obama that free ride is over, but I sure respect Obama's candor".
Ummm.  You have a lengthy post on McCain's meeting with Zebari.  Think you could give us a little more info on Obama's so we have something to discuss?
We, Buffalo fans throughout the world, are mourning the loss of our favorite son Tim Russert. To honor Tim's memory I started a petitition to have his name added to the Buffalo Bills Wall of Fame.

http://www.petitiononline.com/basenji/petition.html

Please sign it and pass it on. I can see in my minds eye Tim smiling down from above when he receives this honor. Truly, he would be thrilled. Thank you!
McCain made a gaffe over the weekend that is very similar to Michelle Obama's 'being proud' statement.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/06/14/mccain-its-tough-in-some_n_107163.html

Why is this not on the news?
I wonder if McCain said that he wanted to keep the troops in there for how many years? Who the hell do we think we are? To go into a country, murder their leader, take over the resources, occupy their country with bases, and don't forget the killing of thousands, and wonder why they don't want us there? We had better wake up and finally find out just exactly what these people have done. We need to find out the truth. And since Wall Street owns all of the news media, we do not have any investigating.
It had no closed meetings I take it all in open?Did Obama have someone with him to take notes? He is so not ready. He says hire me but I am going to have others do the work.I have a flood of friends to pick from. Is it true he is trying to move our dnc to Chicago? sounds more like a take over than an election. McCain is looking better all the time. Safer anyway.
The ironic thing is, Iraq has already been given a timetable for withdrawal and it's November 2008. I would not be surprised to see conditions in Iraq improve. Similar thing happened back in 1980 with Ronald Reagan coming to power. The Iran hostage crisis ended pretty quickly when it was realized that he was going to be elected. I think the sense was that if those hostages were not freed by the time he got in office there was going to be hell to pay.
AS a great supporter and like all political junky's,I believe a friend of Tim Russert, I think his decision to bring you,Chuck Todd, into his circle was a great one.  Thanks
Beware Of Obama (Sent Monday, June 16, 2008 11:41 AM):

Beware:

Where have you been? There are 57 States. Due to  folks like you we have decided to add a few States and move you Obama doubters to these new States where you can live isolated with your doubts and lack of common sense. We have not yet decided where the new States will be located but we were thinking someplace far, far away where escape is impossible.

Beware Of Obama,
You're an idiot. Do you honestly think any of us are buying the Muslim deal?
Go to Fox with this "news". They might buy it.
McCain is a clueless baffoon.  This is absolutely hysterical:

JUST WONDERING DID THE ADMINISTRATION AND MC CAIN HEAR THE PART WHERE MALIKI SAID HE AND THE US ARE AT AT DEAD END RELATIVE TO ANY AGREEMENT TO LEAVE THE TROOPS THERE FOR YEARS

WHY DO MC CAIN AND THE ADMINISTRATION AND THE REPUBLICANS PERSIST

MALIKI MADE IT CLEAR WE ARE NOT WANTED

WHAT'S THE REAL STORY AS TO WHY WE REFUSE TO HONOR IRAQ'S WISHES

LEGACY PERHAPS
DOES ANY ONE STAY INFORMED?

THE PRESIDENT OF IRAQ ISSUED A STATEMENT SAYING HE WAS AT A DEAD END WITH THE US TALKS RELATIVE TO STAYING OR KEEPING OUR TROOPS IN IRQA

WHY DOES THIS ADMINISTRATION AND MC CAIN REFUSE TO LISTEN EVEN WHEN HE MEETS WITH THE PRESIDENT OF IRAN HUGS AND HAVE GREAT TIMES

THERE'S SOMETHING WITH THIS PICTURE

WHY IS THE ADMINISTRATION TRYING SO HARD TO STAY WHEN WE ARE BEING TOLD NO..........................

SALVAGING A LEGACY PERHAPS?
Actually Dennis, Reagan made sure the hostages would NOT be released until he took office.  Their were negotiations but the deal was made not only to postpone beyond the election to deprive Carter and help Reagan win but also to let Reagan be inaugurated first so it could happen on his watch. I'm sure the hostages must have appreciated the extra months that was Reagan's gift to them.
Another case of Obama riding on the coattails of someone else's good idea.  Just like he did in the debates with Clinton whenever she had to answer first.  "Um, well, um, yeah, I agree with everything Senator Clinton has to say but let me add....that I would not have voted to authorize the war in Iraq!"  Obama=blank slate...he is what you want him to be...until he has to make a quick decision and can't wait to see how his internal polling tells him how he should react.  Then we will see what he's really made of.
Carole, Ft Lauderdale (Sent Monday, June 16, 2008 11:45 AM), he could campaign from Iraq via satellite and you still wouldn't vote for him or listen, so why are you even making that claim.

You don't need to manufacture an excuse not to vote for him, there will not be anyone else in the voting booth with you.  So, don't feel guilty when you cast your vote, just mark your X, fill in the box, or pull the lever for Obama and none of your friends will be the wiser.  You know you want to, and I for one don't blame you one bit.
Met with McCain and spoke to Obama, what's up with taht
Obama said he's going to campaign in 57 states, and it turns out that there are 57 Islamic states.  There are 57 Islamic states.   So did Obama just lose his bearings, or was this a more telling slip, ladies and gentlemen?

You have got to be kidding!!! Obama was speaking of 57 PRIMARIES:  IE:  The Virgin Islands, Puetro Rico, Americans abroad et al. Please get a life!  The poverty of intellect dispalyed by your post is typical for those of your ilk.

Mister Anderson:  Are you kidding ???  Men in many parts of the world greet each other with a kiss on both cheeks.  It is not affection; it is not a sign of agreement; it is a greeting.  It's your kind of ignorance that leads to false conclusions and rumors.  Leave your narrow bubble and join the world.  And stop misleading others who may also be limited in their understanding.  We should be bringing knowledge here.
