Obama on Patti Solis Doyle

Posted: Tuesday, June 17, 2008 6:09 PM by Mark Murray

From NBC/NJ's Athena Jones
Here's what Obama said about the ex-Clinton campaign manager who is now joining his campaign -- as the running mate's chief of staff:

"Patti Solis Doyle I think is a terrific experienced campaign hand. She's from Chicago. Her brother and I organized on the southeast side of Chicago when I first moved to Chicago as a community organizer, so I've known the family for a very long time. I think that she will bring not only a set of skills that we're gonna need as we put our ticket together but shes going to be a terrific adviser and offer insight and judgment that will help us."

I don't really understand all the uproar over this from the Clinton supporters.  Clearly Patti has family connections, and brings many good contacts to Obama within the Hispanic Community.

Obama needs to put together the best team he can.  She seems like a good addition.
It's sad to see Obama still taking such an ANTI CLINTON stance.  When are they going to realize that by doing so Camp Obama is pushing Clinton supporters away.  There is nothing new about Obama's politics. There is NO CHANGE - it is just sleazy politics as usual.
i really dont see the big deal patti and hillary probably are the best of friends behind the scene but patti just didn't do a good job on the campaign

McCain's so called straight talk on the environment
Candidates on equal pay.
McCain’s Clayton Williams problems
GOP trying to scare voters?
Its All About Taxes

Just don't let her mind the cash.
Will Clinton ever get over its not about her? She lost! She went in with an entitlement mentality that it was her turn. America is tired of the Clintons so let it go. Obama can choose who he wants.
Give me a break with all the conspiracy theories.  Don't you think if HRC had won, she'd want Plouffe and/or Axelrod on her team?  It's politics folks!  He's just trying to assemble the best team possible.

Hispanics don't like Obama. Obama sat there and listened to hate speech against yes - even the hispanic people for 20 years.-------Oh yeah I forgot - He left that church so we shouldn't talk about it anymore.
POLITICIANS MUST BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR ACTIONS.

Isn't that why we are so displeased with GWB?

Forget about Obama's pastor but link up whatever you can between GWB and McCain?  COME ON PEOPLE WAKE UP!
Jill  we   get   it   you  are   not  a   hillory  supporter   you   just   like   to  see   your   name   in  print,  say  what  ever   you  want  about   mrs  clinton  but   she  would  neaver  agree  to  what  Maccain  is   putting   out  she   has  sound  policies     ............   ok  sit  boo  boo  good    girl
Solis Doyle helps Obama with Latinos, Chicago connections, some Clintonistas who want to move on, and women.

She was flat out horrible and awful managing a campaign. But she has other skills which will prove to be useful to Obama.
And, take away her TV.  I hear she likes to sit in her office and watch soaps all day.
Obama has done absolutely NOTHING to reach out to Hillary supporters except use our names to send out appeals for money. I am offended by the Patti appointment since it is clearly a Hillary slap-down. This is politics as usual and I am deeply disappointed. I will reluctantly vote for him so the Dems control the Supreme Court and protect women's right to choose, but no money and no effort for his campaign.
I'm sure Patti will do a great job. However, it does not matter who is on the ticket with Obama.  Obama will not be elected in November.  By then we will know a lot more about him and the more you know the more you understand that he must not be president.

I am a former Hillary supporter and have already joined the McCain team.  I started to re-register as an independent but want my vote for McCain be a democrat voting for McCain.  DNC made a big mistake by pushing Obama and doing a hatchet job on Hillary i.e the handling of Michigan and Florida.

Obama is a media driven candidate that has hardly been vetted.  I believe he is a closet muslim.  His belonging to Wright's church for 20+ years proves that Michelle and Obama are in lockstep with Wright. Have you guys read the by-laws of that church?

I have read Obama's books and I find the statements made by Obama about anti-my mother's race  to be very disturbing.  I read the books and it makes me fearful of what an Obama presidency would be. He is not prepared, not fully vetted, under-qualified and questions need to be answered as to who and what he is.  If how he did his job as US Senator, is an indication,  then he will do next to nothing.  Or vote present (or so he thinks).

OBAMA MUST NOT BE PRESDIENT--WOULD NOT BE GOOD FOR THE COUNTRY OR EVEN THE WORLD.
Pat Huntington NY:  ‘…It's one thing to ultimatel chose someone other than Hillary as VP. It's another thing to appoint an admitted Hillary Hater to a chief spot in your campaign administration.  Shows poor judgment in my book…’

Cool down, Pat
I read in Politico that Patti and David Axelrod were acquaintances in the Chicago political scene. They knew each other (and I think were friends)
She was ‘negotiating’ with Axelrod near the end of the Clinton campaign

I also thought that Patti and Hillary were ‘friends’
Correct me if I’m wrong
But, it’s not like she has a tattoo: ‘Property on the Clintons’ on her fanny

PS: Obama needs to hire Averell ‘Ace’ Smith, Clinton’s killer field organizer
I think he helped win California and Texas for her

So...Sen. Obama already had a long time established relationship with Ms. Solis-Doyle and her family? Sounds like further proof that his choosing to invite her to join his campaign teams was not out of some sort of spite or slight against Sen. Clinton and where she fits in on the VP short list. Imagine that.

I really wish people would stop trying to make everything this man does revolve around what Hillary Clinton says or does period. Yes she is a powerful member of the Democratic Party and a respected one, but Sen. Obama would never get anything done worrying about his every move being perceived in the context of how it affects the Clintons or their supporters.

I do not proclaim to have great knowledge of Ms. Solis-Doyle's "skills" but based on the brilliant campaign people that Sen. Obama has surrounded himself with from day 1 up until now, I'll trust his judgement here as well and believe that she too will become another important component in a camapaign running on all cylinders.
It's sad to see Obama still taking such an ANTI CLINTON stance.  When are they going to realize that by doing so Camp Obama is pushing Clinton supporters away.  There is nothing new about Obama's politics. There is NO CHANGE - it is just sleazy politics as usual.

Please explain why hiring Patti Solis Doyle is an anti-Clinton stance?
Memo to Clinton Supporters...it's not all about you!  It's about supporting the best candidate remaining for President. When you keep saying that Camp Obama is pushing the Clinton supporters away just look in the mirror. You are the ones pushing. The Obama campaign has always been about Unity. As a long time Obama supporter I want Unity for the United States. I'm sick of division and pettiness and neener neener politics. I hope Obama picks Hagel for VP and we unite EVERYONE. Men, women, blacks, whites, latinos, Democrats, Republicans, Young and Old. A Clinton supporter talking about sleazy politics is a laugh. Seriously, heal yourself from this rancor in your sole. Some people are actually good and not trying with their every move to upset you!
It's a tad ignorant to think that anytime you work for someone and it doesn't work out, you should never work for the comptetion. Are you kidding me? It's her expertise that got her in the clinton campaign, and it's also her expertise that will make her an asset to Obama's.

Let's get our hands out of the sand now for those saying it was a jab at Clinton. We're here to win an election and stop McBush from continuing Bush's failed policies. If someone is an asset, get them into your corner. It's business here people, not personal....
LOL, do you notice how Obama and Clinton are both in bold lettering.
The media just can't let go of these two
I understand it was a big primary, and there was much to cover relating to Hillary and Barack.
But that time has gone.
You guys are still pulling out that old carcus and giving a few more wacks.
On to the Veeps............ let's talk about something more interesting to read.

I think Lou Dobbs got it right!
Jill in Los Angeles, I agree 100%. This double talk...saying one thing.... "I want to reach out to her supporters" and then hiring PSD who Clinton let go to head the VP chief of staff...slap heard round the world. Obama was not who I was initially blaming as supporters were and are still so obnoxious...but now I too blame him...and if something doesn't change...really change...he will not get my vote.
What are you talking about Jill. Obama is not taking an anti-Clinton stance. They are still friends, she endorsed his candidacy and she is helping him get elected by setting him up with some great contacts from her campaign.
I think many Clinton supporters will see this as arrogant and a slap at Senator Clinton. I'm having a hard time determining I will grit my teeth and vote for Obama - but he probably doesn't think he can win florida anyway - and increasingly I think he's right. too bad
(!o!)  Clinton supporters, cry me a river!  Clinton did the damage to her campaign all on her own.  She did it a long time ago, back when she decided to stay with a cheater to further her own political agenda rather than send the message out that she is a strong, independent woman who could kick a-- all on her own.
Jill,

Are you blind? What are you talking about? Or are you just a Republican pretending to be a Clinton supporter..funny the polls are showing Clinton supporters are flocking to Obama..
More of John McCains "so called straight talk"

Everyone needs to get off of this and on to the job at hand. If Patty was good enough to be Clinton's Campaign Manager in the first place; then she is certainly good enough to Manage preparations for the VP Slot Nominee. Clinton supporters need to stop blaming Patty for some things that were obviously beyond her control. When you blame Patty and still back Penn and Wolfson, you are quite obviously wearing big old Donkey Blinders...
Read some facts about John McCain that mainstream media doesn't cover. Then visit the Military Facts page and let me know if you think we're headed towarded reinstating the military draft:

This is just another slap in the face to Senator Clinton and her supporters.  Obama's actions continue to make it easier and easier for Democrats to vote for McCain this fall.  His arrogance has already cost him many votes - he will have no one to blame but himself when McCain wins in November.
From all accounts, PSD did NOT loose this selection -She was Mark Penns 'scapegoat'...  And Clinton went along with the decision...

Bad Decision for HRC, Good Decision for Obama
Hey Jill, Hillary is out.  McCain is Bush.  So, quit posting. We realize the election was never about policy to you, it was about Hillary.  So go vote for Bush, again, which im sure you did the first two times, and quit tagging everything Clinton supporters for McCain.  Because, if you look around, there are about 1 million of you out of 18 million, and it will continue to decrease.  So sign off with something like this.

Jill, Bush supporter, Hillary groupie, McCain supporter, Los Angeles
I can't figure this nonsense out. I need Tim (Russert) to explain to me why this is a big deal. Gov. Richardson and Sen. Edwards both ran for president this year and didn't succeed. Both were beat my Obama. After losing, they've graciously endorsed him and encouraged their supporters to do the same. She was hired before Clinton got beat. Clinton lost and supposedly has now pushed her supporters to back Obama. Why is she mad that they're trying to do just that. Clinton fired her. So with that, she can't take her "democratic" support elsewhere? What's next, Obama can't get advise from Carville? WE are the democratic party. Obama is oue ELECTED leader. HE picks the people for his administration, NOT the CLINTON CAMP. Hillary's people need to understand, WE'RE moving on to victory. The Clinton train isn't on this track. It's the OBAMA Express and either you're a democrat, working and supporting the nominee or you're a fan of a particular candidate, and therefore z fairweather supported of this party. Hillary IS NOT GOING TO THE DANCE PEOPLE, the sooner we get past this fact the better we will be and the stronger we will be. If you can't help us get ahead, shup up and stop whinning about what someone who has lost and reluctantly conceded might think is a slap in the face. His VICTORY in the primaries was the biggest slap in her face and the American people did the slapping, not Obama.

McCain diesn't realize that half of his party is already looking for their 2012 nominee.
Or is she taking the heat for much that was outside of her control. The put ups at the hotels, etc that cost the campaign a lot of money, the inter-fighting among Hillary's people that was running the campaign and then Penn himself,it would do well not to point fingers until you know the facts...
As a Hillary supporter, I have been listening to Obama and trying to convince myself that I could overcome the reservations I have about him.  This was a sleazy way to inform us that Hillary is not in the running for VP, and I consider it a slap in the face.  As I suspected, he is simply another politician playing dirty Chicago politics.  He got where he is by eliminating his previous competitors through technicalities and then running unopposed.  So much for his fancy speeches. Is this all this country has to offer us?
I thought after the primaries...we were all coming together?  This is GREAT!  Congrats to Patti and congrats to Obama.
Clinton supporters really need to start giving Obama some respect.

Solis-Doyle was bad campaign manager but a great chief of staff for Clinton. That's why Hillary chose her. But she was in over her head as campaign manager.

Obama is trying to find quality trustworthy people in a very short time. Clinton stayed in the race an extra month, so Obama is playing catch up with McCain as far as organizing.

Obama is not beholden to Clinton & has been very compassionate to her. Meanwhile some her supporters have been very disrespectful ie: telling him who his vp must be,chanting McCain, PUMA.

Enough is enough.
To Jill: What's sad about this? He has the right to pick whom he thinks can help his campaign.  This selection has nothing to do with Senator Clinton.  Also, he's not being ANTI CLINTON, it appears that the Clinton supporters is the ones that's being ANTI.
Let's all work together to win this election in November.

I'm 1 in 18 million who doesn't like this particular move on his part. There are literally hundreds of unemployed staffers and advisors around this country, and he chooses Patti Solis Doyle...com'on, Obama...that's not the way to start mending fences... what's next???
Would there be the same uproar if Obama asked Mark Penn (aside from the uproar of his own supporters over that marshmallow)?  These supporters are just looking for any reason not to vote for Obama.  Put aside the anger (or at least let it simmer down on the back burner) and look at the current candidate's stances on the issues, and the decision is simple.
The strange thing to me is that she has been assigned to be the chief of staff to the VP candidate that hasn't been chosen yet.  Shouldn't the VP candidate be in on choosing their chief of staff?
Boy, when the Clinton camp throws one of it's top insiders under the bus they really do a job on them.  How can someone who was once one of Hillary's closest aides now be considered toxic waste.  Should we call this attitude sexist?

I wouldn't blame Patti Solis Doyle for the cash flow problem. Hillary insisted on lavish velvet drapes for her campaign rallies where others used cotton sheeting, putting her staff up at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, where other candidates had their stafff bunk with volunteers.  It was Hillary who convinced herself that she would have the campaign wrapped up by super Tuesday and she recklessly spent her supporters money up (over 100 million dollars), and had nothing left by March.
I agree with the Obama campaign. I don’t see any reason for not going after the best talents available, I’m not sure what happen with the Clintons; but I agree with Kelly, don’t let her manage the funds, and again that may not have been her fault, Mark Page was getting all of the funds - $5,000,000.00. I believe the Obama Team will organize the most strategic team available.
When Patti Solis Doyle was the campaign manager for Hillary Clinton at the start of the Democratic Party election, obviously she was well qualified and accepted by the Hillary partisans and followers as capable and competent. If she was hired by Hillary to run her campaign, obviously Hillary felt like she was qualified, competent and capable.

So what's different now? Has Patti Solis Doyle somehow or other lost her qualifications or experience or competency to work within a national presidential political campaign?

I don't understand the uproar from a small minority of disgruntled HRC supporters.

Let's unite and move on to Victory in November for the Democratic Party and for all Americans. The issues are too important for any of us to get bogged down and mired up in minutia of no great importance.

Obama in '08!
Jill, Los Angeles, CA -

Where, in Obama's statement listed above, is the name Clinton mentionned?  I don't see it there at all.  All I see is that Obama hired a competent campaign person who is not, at this time, working for any one else.
As many hard working Clinton campaigners as possible should share in the thrill of claiming their part of victory against the GOP!
I just don't understand the uproar....
There are so many big issues and this is the one that everyone is focused on....doesn't make sense to me.
Is it possible the long term friendship may be the reason Patti delivered the candidacy to Obama starting with Iowa and will be his eyes and ears at the VP nominee as well?
I need to comment on the other story.  I am soooo tired of these Clinton people "demanding this" and "demanding that".  Look, I didn't contribute to Obama's campaign so that he could pay off Hillary Clinton's debt!  You know what?  If she doesn't like Patti Doyle on his campaign, that's just too bad.  He can pick whomever he wants to do whatever he wants.

The fact of the matter is that Obama doesn't need Hillary's fat cat contributors.  He raised his money by tapping into the small donors across America who believe in him and if she couldn't do it, that's her problem, not mine.  I don't want one cent of my money paying off her debt.  She can use some of her own $109 million to pay it off!
