Axelrod visits Capitol Hill

From NBC's Ken Strickland
The unity tour continued today on Capitol Hill with Obama's chief strategist addressing Senate Democrats today. "We want to work closely with them," David Axelrod said after addressing the caucus in its weekly Tuesday luncheon. "Every single person in there has a wealth of knowledge about their states and about the issues facing this country."

VIDEO: Newsweek's Richard Wolfe talks about which party- Democratic or Republican- is in better shape from a unity standpoint.

Axelrod came at the invitation of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, who said many of the key organizers of the campaign are "are always under the radar screen" and felt it was important for members to know who he is.

Axelrod said the campaign wants "to work in partnership" with Congress. "We don't consider ourselves the repository of all wisdom," he said. "Every single person there has something to contribute and some good ideas. And we want to hear what they are."

Did he field any questions on possible veep candidates? "No one asked about it."  Will the campaign replace Jim Johnson, the lead veep vetter who was chased out by his controversial Countrywide mortgage dealings? "That's not clear...We'll see what we need to do."

What was clear is that Team Obama is continuing its effort to bring the party together after a grueling primary election. "He was extremely positive about Sen. Clinton," Reid told reporters. "And it's very obvious from all the polls that the people are moving very quickly to Obama."

BO has a long, long way to go before he unites the Dems, if he is able to do that at all, since the Dems are so disjointed and are only united by one thing: hatred of President Bush.
The unity tour has hit the road with all of the loser liberals on the list. "Hope and Change" It take all of the dems to get together to change a light bulb and hope it turns on. Thats more detail than Obam has sputtered.
We expected a bump in the polls...  let's hope that, as policy gets rolled out, it continues to November.

It certainly does not appear that Obama is "extremely positive" in regards to Clinton.  The democratic party finally realizes what it did to Clinton and her supporters. People are still Boo - ing Clinton at Obama rallies. Oh yeah - that encourages Clinton supporters.  And now we are supposed to support and trust all of those demo leaders that threw Hillary under the bus?  Where was their support and trust. How about some loyalty. OUR PARTY IS BROKEN AND NOBODY WANTS TO NOTICE.
Please remember as you read comments here that 99.9% of the posts claiming to be Clinton PUMA's are really just Reps in disguise.  And, 99.9% of posts claiming to be Obama supporters dissing Clinton supporters are also Reps.  The Dems are a lot more unified than the Reps would like and they are trying to create divisions.  So, let's just sit back and laugh at their meager efforts!!
Sorry there will not be a great coming together of the Hillary supporters.  We supported Hillary because we were anti-Barack Hussein Obama.  Most of us still are.

I supported Hillary.  I found Obama unexceptable and still DO.  He is not a good candidate and the real Obama will have to be revealed.  Make it soon.

It will be interesting to see how fast the Republican Senators will run when McCain's strategist (? exists) comes for a visit.
The Republican Primaries ended way too soon, and now they are  stuck with Grandpa Flip-Flop.
Far from dividing the Democrats, the long primary season gave a chance for everyone to get to know Obama and forced him to stay on message.
That is why the "bump" was not steep as in past years.
Obama's commanding lead over McCain will not fall any further because the current support levels are from solid backers.  McCain has no new groups to attract.
Clinton's supporters are slowly coming back and will continue to increase Obama's lead over McCain. Just analyze the latest Ohio PPP(D) poll showing Obama trouncing McCain!
Obama/Wetzler 08
I applaud Obama team for their efforts to go to congress early.  King George never really did that, only giving lip service to the idea.  Bush is so insecure.  Most democrats are moving to Obama after the brusing primary, and that includes most, but not all women.  With 2-3 supreme court appointments coming up soon, McCain would be a disaster for women's rights.  So,Obama does not need Clinton on the ticket, women get it.  Find her another job, someplace where she can't push Obama out the door and off the porch.  It's Obama's party now, not the Clinton's, thank God.  Go Obama!
Great!

Senator Obama is conducting himself in a presidential manner. He is staying on point by focusing on the issues and not digging up inconsequential dirt on his opponent. Just the fact that he is taking time to make himself aware of the specific concerns of each state instead of just the ones he needs to get elected proves it.
@NObama

First Read reports whenever a candidate attacks the other or blows their nose. Today Obama just happens to have more going on. McCain is probably taking a nap. Are Chuck or Mark supposed to make crap up to fling at Obama? Is that objective reporting? They can only report the news, not make sure reality is balanced.
I completely understand how passionate Clinton supporters would need time to move to Senator Obama.  But if they look up McCains record on women's rights.....Or look up how he called his wife a c*** back in 1992?  Pre-youtube era.  I just can't imagine how any free thinking woman could vote for him.
Here is what Anna Quindlen stated for Newsweek:

"This is the party that brought us Clarence Thomas even after Anita Hill testified; tried to neuter the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission; held up approval of over-the-counter emergency contraception, and even put a guy on a commission for reproductive health who believes prayer is the way to deal with PMS. (Please, God, deliver him from the reach of my strong right hook.) Senator McCain himself opposes legal abortion and acknowledging the role of women in combat; progressive women's groups have long tagged him as weak on workplace bias and equal-pay guarantees. His likely Supreme Court appointees would mirror all that."

According to the Bible, Obama fills the requirements to be the Anti Christ, Why would one be so aligned with those who hate our country, 20 years standing with pastors who preach hatred and discourse among their race. I'm concerned of this fact!
GOOD!!

Group think is a positive direction for folks on the hill to be taking.

I would appreciate seeing him meet with the Republicans too; as soon as they either concede, or lose!
It is really simple, if you want roe v wade overturned, no universal health care, a warmonger in chief, continued tax cuts for the rich and no tax relief for the middle class, no diplomacy, a further erosion of the rights and morality our forefathers fought so hard to create, someone who flip-flops on every issue because it is polling well, a government influenced and a campaign architected by federal lobbyists, college only for the rich, someone by their own admission does not differ from Bush on the major issues of our time, a country run by fear and intimidation and a supreme court ruled by conservatism...then go ahead and vote for McCain. However, realize that none of these represent being a Democrat. If you are a "Democrat" for McCain, it is time to change your affiliation to the GOP because nothing he stands for equals a Democrat in any way. Playing the fear card does not work so well when 9/11 happened on your watch and when the GOP has officially lied to take us to war.  Time to set aside the angst from Hillary losing and really impact a change for our and future generations.
HOW SOON THEY FORGET

With Obama’s campaign appointment of Hillary Clinton’s former campaign manager Patti Solis Doyle as Chief of Staff to Obama’s VP candidate (whom ever that is), there has been plenty of accolades bestowed upon both Mr. Obama for hiring Ms. Doyle and Ms. Doyle for (as some see it) having the wisdom to know a winning team when she sees one.

The interesting thing about Ms. Doyle being hired by Obama-Land (something that had been suspected ever since Ms. Doyle left Hillary-Land back in February of this year), is that it wasn’t that long ago when both the press and the Obama supporters were chastising Ms. Doyle for being one of the main reasons the Clinton campaign started to unravel, the other being Marc Penn.

The fact that the people supporting Mr. Obama seem to conveniently have short attention spans is not a surprise.  What is surprising is the overwhelming show of support for Ms. Doyle now that she is on team Obama, considering that it wasn’t that long ago when the very same people who are now supportive of her being on team Obama were criticizing her for her lack of experience, and her mismanagement of Clinton’s campaign funds as being some of the many reason for her being fired.

Ms. Doyle was considered by many both inside and outside of the Clinton campaign to be Hillary Clinton’s alter-ego.  She was known for telling people “When I’m speaking, Hillary is speaking.”  For anyone who has accused Hillary Clinton of being arrogant about the nomination, to do so you would have to include Ms. Doyle in that category.

Aside from a total slap in the face to Hilary Clinton, Solis Doyle’s appointment is certainly not going to do Obama any favors where former Clinton supporters are concerned considering many of them blame Soli Doyle right along with Marc Penn for many of the problems in the Clinton campaign early on.

Moreover, it is interesting that Obama has insisted that he’s the only true “Change” candidate, and yet he has filled his campaign with Washington insiders and many former Clinton advisors.  This is not representative of change, it’s representative of business as usual and more of the same.
MSNBC is trying to report every favorable poll showing that Obama is "strong" among Hispanics, women, etc...yet, McCain is showing strength, too. Amazingly, McCain is within 4% of Obama.

Obama was expected to be 10 points ahead of McCain now, due to the expected post-primary "bounce", but, Obama's only 4 points ahead of McCain.

It's because McCain is a popular brand, and folks have grave doubts about "rookie" Obama.
Gee, First Read, have you read your headlines today?  "Obama attacks McCain" , "anti-Mccain", etc, etc.  Did you have to work real hard today to make EVERY HEADLINE negative toward McCain.  Your bias is unfortunately showing again.  Why don't you just post a "Vote Obama" banner on your page?

You haven't noticed that msnbc leans way left? WOW! That is just occuring to you? Why not head on over to fox news. I'm sure they have a community section where every headline and every opinion will be right in line with your own. Gosh! While your at it take good ol boy jerry, angry clinton supporter molly and nonsensical dusual with you. You guys will have a blast over there! We will miss you.
And by the way almost all of the posts today were straight policy vs policy. You are always going to find things biased if that's what your looking for.
Reid reminds me of a weaselly varmint! What a sick excuse for a Man. He and his cronies have derailed congress including some sick minded from the GOP side of the room! Some one please see the light and bring an end to these type of Washington self serving paper hangers!
Leadership...  I just love to see it.

Obama 08/12
Ever think all this is just grist for the mill? Realize that IF we get hit again, the current pooh bah will declare marshall law, the elections will be off, and we call suck wind. Don't bet against the idea of the repubs doing ANYTHING to retain power.
Been watching clips of Sen McCain on MSNBC today
where is his flag pin? he's not wearing a flag pin!
is it because he's not patriotic? maybe he doesnt
love The USA maybe he's a terrorist?
And what kind of name is McCain? could he be a spy
from some foreign country like Scotland bent on the
destruction of our Government
More spin. More smoke and mirrors. Obama is realizing that many moderates in his own party don't support him, else why have so many meet-and-greats at the capital?
The fact is that Bin Laden would get a greeting or get well card signed by the liberal left should he ever be captured.
Let's go---let's change the Country-----And save the world.

Welcome back America--Thank you Sen. Obama.

nobody is moving barrack will lose this election because   we Clinton supporters will move to mccain. they think abortion is the only issue that would move us over obama. nope
what poll is he looking at and who was asked? I see people moveing in the other direction in a constant flow to unite against bommy.I for one ,if any try to blame Hillary for our actions against Obama will leave party and go independant like many have already.Obama and McCain are tied with independants cause a lot of them are Hillary people. She can not force anyone to do her bidding and hope she uderstands.I will be for her still just not this one thing to vote Obama.I believe he is dangerous and has done to much damage already to party and country. Has nothing to do with race but his lieing and bad judgement .With small experience these things are important even more. He acts like a take over and moveing the DNC is a good example. That is supposed to be OUR party not his. Will he be in office forever than?We have to move it again when someone else gets it if he lets them? NO  he is too risky. His ambition is getting more apparent. This isnt for country but for his ego and power. He picks people  that are troubling, his friends and church are troubling.People that endorse him are troubling. There is investagations everywhere around him.inproper behavoir Dodd, johnson etc.to much. He had to be told to go to Iraq bad judgement everywhere. Not Pres.material.
This to all of the wonderful Hillary Clinton supporters: Your canidate ran a fabuluos race. there were some questionable moments but hey thats politics. Unfortunately she did not prevail. there were a few bad moves in the beginning of the campain and a few in the end (I say that because the Sups were obviously not moved) that being said I should remind you that though your canidate did not win the primary and thus a lot of you feel like you lost, you all can still WIN. How is this you ask? Well let me also remind you that most of you were Democrats first. Secondly for those of you that were not there was a reason why you changed parties I dare not assume that it was simply because she is a woman. (That would be wrong of you.) And finally I can assume that you all were voting for the honorable Hillary Clinton because of the issues that she stood and still stands for. The Economy, Housing, Health Care, The War, Jobs, Womens Rights (Roe Vs. Wade). If that is so than I encourage you to Stand with your Party. The Democatic Party. I my self was a republican that is now independend. Why? because I know as all of you know that the GOP is currupt and only really cares about the upper class. That they say what they need to to the middle class to keep us spending so that the rich (Thier cronies) get richer and we, well we lose our homes and pay $4, soon to be $5, per gallon in gas. You have a canidate now that wants to tax the rich the same way you are taxed; Adjust your taxes so that you can afford to live a better life, increse fuel economies on vehicals; eliminate our dependence on forien oil; create jobs for us so that we can put in an honest days work and get paid an honest wage for it; and make sure that people are being paid on an equal scale. His Name is Barack Obama. He too has ran a great campainge. He has had some hick ups as well but he is in fact the canindate of the party. As a former republican I can tell you that the support of the Party is how you win the White house. B. Obama belives for the most part what the Party belives and so do you. I ask that you remember this. Check out Barack Obama's Website. Check how he feels on the ISSUES and vote Democrat.

Democrat for 08
"very obvious from the polls that the people are moving quickly to obama"????????????   Think NOT!!!
What polls are you reading - NOT the sites I am on -
Seems like the 18 Million Hillary supporters are now
Organized, United and ready for November - to Vote AGAINST obama - whoever the other candidate may be.
Obama is NOT qualified and we will NOT vote for him.
Oh and I should add a few things. I am a Marine. A flag pin doesn't make you a patriot. Belief in your country and support of your countrymen does. I live in Arizona. McCain is a Fraud. Now let me be clear. I am not voting against McCain I am voting for Barack Obama. John McCain Served his country honorable in Vietnam. I commend him for that but that does not give him some unwritten right to be president. He speaks of experience. Well I say Tenure “My Friend” does not mean experience. It just means you’ve been in the building watching the walls fall in. I know Repubs will say how many of you have lost jobs to the new guy in the building. Well I ask you how many of you have lost jobs or promotions to the guy that had no idea what he was talking about but got it because he had been there longer. It’s ridiculous to say that John McCain has more experience simply because he’s been it the longest. The are a lot of bench warmers on the football team that have been there a lot longer that the starters. Why, because the starters know more about how to win that the bench warmers.  Then there is Judgement. Well I say this to that. Anybody in a relationship knows that you partner may have made a hundred decisions and you may have only made 50 but those 50 were the right decisions as oppose to the garbage the other person put up. But the other person will always stand on “ Well I’ve had to make more decisions.  And John McCain Likes to stand on his Honor. I find this especially despicable being a military man because aside from his service he has a “record,”or so he likes to call it, of being dishonorable. Cheating on his first wife, Living off of this wife’s money, allowing my fellow military men and women to be put in harms way for a cause that should remind him of Vietnam. These Men And Women are losing back home while he is prancing around lying that we are winning abroad. Let me say that if you believe that for a second you’ve got problems. The terrorist are doing exactly what any gang with a brain would do if there were more enforcement on the street. They are at home waiting for them to leave. They are going to do that every time we have a surge. Repubs will say well that’s why we need to stay. Look at the big picture folks. Whether we leave now or later there is going to be civil war there. If they want to kill each other I hate to say it but let them. Then there government will step up and do what we’ve been asking them to do for 5 years. And I’ll leave you with this. For the Billions of dollars that we are spending over there that we could have here at home in our economy, for the lives being lost, families braking up, economy going down the tubes and 4 soon to be 5 dollar a gallon gas that could be off set by those BILLIONS, or homes that are being for closed on I ask John McCain this. What constitutes a Win so that we can bring our troops and those BILLIONS of dollars home?
No more terrorist? Impossible. Terrorism is a way of mind. We are making terrorist out of every boy that sees his mom or brother or father blown up or shot, even if by “Terrorist”, because me are over there. Or Mr. McCain is it When the Government takes over? I’m sorry haven’t you been telling us all this time that they are in charge? They’ll sit and do NOTHING as long as we’re there. Or is it when we can be sure that Iran won’t just step in and take over Iraq? Let me give you the play by play. We leave now or when ever. Iraq goes into civil war. Why because there are at least three main groups, Sunnis Shiites and Kurds over there. In each of these three groups there are 3- 15 or so sub groups. Everybody wants to be in charge! So any way civil war. I ran steps in on a crippled nation and batta bing supporting Iraq in the 1980's Iraq Iran war, Desert storm and Shield and this war are all for what? We need to come home. I’m voting Obama. Why? Mainly because of the issues. Partly because there is a little scripture in the bible that says take care of the LOG in your own eye before you worry about the one in someone else’s.
Just vote to drill for oil, uncap all those wells drilled and capped from 78 to 81, Build more refineries,
Paper hanging bastards better start paying attention, this derailed congress is going to be impeached and fired,,  Wake up fools of yesterday!!!
AWESOME!  I have every confidence in Team Obama, especially since I feel like I have a stake in it.
Can't wait for november
Didn't Obamas people send a letter to DNC saying not to listen or vote for Hillary that they would supply DNC with all kinds of money? Now Axelrod needs to go to the hill hat in hand. He wants Hillarys supporters to put up some money. He has Hillary begging and I got a letter from Gore ask 4 times in one letter give give give give HAhahahaha. Ask Obamas minnions they have all the cash. We are the dumb and poor ones you dont need remember??We cannt reach our wallet to busy holding on to our guns and Bible. We are to bitter cause our guy was selected not elected/ Blacks said if it happened to them they would riot in streets. We wont do that but watch us.Another slipped right through our fingers year just to appease. When will we learn.
From Quinnipiac polls:
FLORIDA: Obama 47, McCain 43
OHIO: Obama 48, McCain 42
PENNSYLVANIA: Obama 52, McCain 40
"And it's very obvious from all the polls that the people are moving very quickly to Obama."

Wrong, Sen. Reid - I suggest you take a look at the new ABC/WA Post poll - More than 30% of Hillary Clinton supporters are voting for McCain or staying home.  And Obama cannot win without them.
Dems united can not be defeated.  GOPers and their operation chaos know this and thus are pushing to divide us.  Hillary Clinton who has proven to be a brilliant pol. knows it's time to unite and win this thing despite the GOP's insistance on infighting and making an emotional appeals, feighning compassion for Clinton supporters.  I know that American women are so much smarter than that and therefore the GOP's only possible winning tatic will fail miserably.  We will unite, we will bring Hillary's fight to the GOP, we will elect Barak Obama the next POTUS.

Go dems!  Go Obama!
He ( osama ) is hitting wall after wall. He's finding out just how pissed the country is and how divided the Dem party is now. It won't be easy as he is finding out. He's now trying to make over his Radical wife and convince us that she is Donna Reed or something. Sorry, but that boat has already sailed. You can cover a ugly scar with makeup ..... but it's still there. Clinton donors aren't throwing cash his way either. She has asked several of her top donors to Washington to meet with him, but that too is hitting some snags. Not looking good for osama. His 6 point ( bump ) lead over McCain has dropped to 4 points. We still have months to go and no head way yet to unite the party. Yes, some droids are falling in line as the are told, but a lot of us can think and read, and see him for what he is and will do.
It will be a close race , but all in all NcCain will come out on top in NOV.
This is a smart move.  It gets many different perspectives that can help the campaign move forward to include other people.  With some of the problems that Obama seem to have, members of the House and Senate could provide good suggestions as to over come problems.
PRESIDENT SHOULD RELEASE USA OIL RESERVES TO BANKRUPT THE OIL SPECULATORS.

Hey - why don't you post constructive criticisms instead of whining?  If you don't like the coverage, go over to Fixed Noise.  As I understand it, they are pretty anti-Obama over there.  You'd fit right in, with your smear tactics and all.

You are welcome here as well, but stay on topic and HAVE A HEART!  Don't say things like "since Tim is gone..."  They are burying him TODAY for Heaven's sake!
Ried is absolutely correct.  Just checked realclearpolitics.  Senator Obama is ahead in Penn, Ohio, and FLORIDA!  Quinnipiac polls!  Awesome!

I am a college professor and am offended by your comment "everyone is quickly moving to Obama."

This is an ambiguous statement as MANY voters ARE NOT embrasing Obama.

I would appreciate your clarifying "who" is moving to Obama.  When you make such broad statements that are untrue, you present yourself as an individual who is trying to brain wash U.S. Citizens into thinking that "EVERYONE" is embrasing Obama, so you need to, too.

Your statement is boarding on being unethical.

PhD
Team Obama and Harruy Reid better look again.....Hillary's supporters are not going to vote for an inexperienced, unpatriotic PUNK, who supports domestic terrorism, political racketeering, and bigoted cult religions.
Was Lieberman there?
How about something newsworthy..How about Barack Obama on the ground helping fill sandbags in Illinois.  I guess we won't get any coverage of that will we FIRST READ.. I would say the man actually got his hands dirty and didn't just fly over a flood zone. He actually did something that mattered.

Talk about  elitism.. How many elitist do you see on a daily basis shoveling sand into a bag with a shovel..

No real coverage of that though huh? I guess someone throwing back a beer and taking a shot of alcohol is more important than someone trying to be apart of a disaster solution on the ground..
The ingenunity of the Obama camp is becoming more prevalent everyday. No one person has all of the answers to Americas problems and building a concensus type of approach to governance, is futureistic. Mr Alexelrod continue to show why he is before his time, and change is inevitable.
With all the attention the liberals have brought upon themselves over the Senate dining room, maybe that is the one place they should not have lunch LOL.
I don't think the pollsters are asking all the right people.  There is still a vast majority that will never get behind Obama.  I think Harry Reid is doing some wishful thinking.
