Things that make you go, Hmm

From NBC's Domenico Montanaro
A terrorist attack would benefit McCain, says McCain adviser Charlie Black…
And… Karl Rove says Obama reminds him of “the guy at the country club with the beautiful date, holding a martini and a cigarette that stands against the wall and makes snide comments about everyone who passes by."

From Fortune: “On national security McCain wins. We saw how that might play out early in the campaign, when one good scare, one timely reminder of the chaos lurking in the world, probably saved McCain in New Hampshire, a state he had to win to save his candidacy - this according to McCain's chief strategist, Charlie Black. The assassination of Benazir Bhutto in December was an ‘unfortunate event,’ says Black. ‘But his knowledge and ability to talk about it reemphasized that this is the guy who's ready to be Commander-in-Chief. And it helped us.’ As would, Black concedes with startling candor after we raise the issue, another terrorist attack on U.S. soil. ‘Certainly it would be a big advantage to him,’ says Black.”

AmericaBlog, in response, says, “John McCain really is running Bush's 2004 campaign all over again. The politics of fear are front and center.”

Then this from Karl Rove: At the Capitol Hill Club, Rove referred to Obama as "coolly arrogant," per ABC. "Even if you never met him, you know this guy," Rove said. "He's the guy at the country club with the beautiful date, holding a martini and a cigarette that stands against the wall and makes snide comments about everyone who passes by."

Remember back in April, Rove told GQ, "Obama is coolly detached and very arrogant. I think he's very smart and knows he's smart, but as a result doesn't do his homework."

Of the latest comments, TPM's Greg Sargent writes: "It should also be noted, of course, that Rove took a man who actually is a country club denizen who makes "snide comments" about others -- that would be George W. Bush -- and turned him into a regular Joe. Meanwhile, the guy who would struggle for admittance to some of these exclusive enclaves -- Obama -- is now "the guy at the country club." Rovian up-is-downism at its finest."

*** UPDATE *** McCain seemed unaware of Black's comments and objected to them. "I cannot imagine why he would say it. It's not true. I've worked tirelessly since 9/11 to prevent another attack on the United States of America. My record is very clear -- the armed services committee and the pieces of legislation, sponsoring with Joe Lieberman, on the 9/11 committee to find out the causes, and how to fix the challenges that we face. As to the security of this nation. I can't imagine it. And so if he said that, and I do not know the context, I strenously disagree.”

Obama is the cat who went out shopping for a trophy wife as soon as the one he had broke down...

Karl Rove is a soon to be indicted fool, who's only claim to fame was getting an imbecile like Bush elected.  Lets follow that bus eh?  not here

Obama 08
Anybody remember Bush on the golf course making comments on Iraq, then saying, hey watch this drive.  Karl Rove is the anti-Christ.
There is no doubt John McCain is a third Bush term. John McCain of 2000 is not the John McCain of 2008. He agrees with Bush on the war, the economy, and he has back tracked on immigration reform.

Obama is the only reasonable vote in November. Vote Obama in November.

Great Obama stuff!!

I think Mr. Rove hit it pretty well on the head.  We've heard BO make plenty of sarcastic remarks, and we're supposed to look away.  But, if somebody does it to him, He's insulted.  The man is a fake and a fraud. He acts like he's above everybody else; the rules don't apply to him.  Many have said the flip on public financing isn't a big deal.  Maybe for some it isn't, for others of us it is because it's a matter of decency, morals, character when you and out and out break your promise.
'...Then this from Karl Rove: At the Capitol Hill Club, Rove referred to Obama as "coolly arrogant," ...'

Karl, when are you going to testify about your illegal activities at the Justice Dept ?

Did you instruct the Attorney General to persecute Alabama Gov. Seigelmann ?

Did you tell Attorneys to prosecute Democrats ?

Did you try to politicize the Justice Dept ?

(that's a rhetorical Question)
I'm a Democrat, and if Obama is elected President, I will for the first time be proud of my country. I feel for the unemployed, for the underpaid. I don't feel it's my job as an individual to help those people out. I don't give to the church, because I don't believe in g*d. But I do feel it is the governments job to pay for people that can't or don't want to work. It's the governments job to provide free health care. It is the governments job to regulate every aspect of our lives. And it's the governments job to make certain that everyone is happy, except the rich. People that have high paying jobs, and own their own businesses are the lucky people in life. So what if they've worked 100 hours a week for years, that was their choice. They stole the money from the poor by having huge profit margins for their products and services. Those people are the ones that should pay for all these benefits. Barack Obama is just the man that will tax the money from the fortunate, and give it to the unfortunate. Barack can cut them checks for cash for all I care, those people deserve it.
Things that want to make you repuke!
One good scare... and maybe the country would see McCain doesn't know shi'ite.

In all honesty, I was on board with this idea that the Democrat would own economic issues while McCain owned Iraq.

But how many gaffes to we have to hear before we just acknowledge that a Navy commission and a couple shopping junkets to artificially secure Baghdad markets isn't the same thing as actually knowing anything about Iraq?
Karl Rove says Obama reminds him of “the guy at the country club with the beautiful date, holding a martini and a cigarette that stands against the wall and makes snide comments about everyone who passes by."

Perfect analogy!! Karl Rove hits another one out of the park!!
I am no BO fan, and I do think he is arrogant, but Rove's comment is beneath contempt.
Isn't it McCain and his wife that are worth more than $100 million.  Money his wife inherited.  Barack Obama and his wife are self-made.  I believe someone with the name Barack Obama would have a pretty difficult time getting into country clubs.
That quote from Karl Rove is funny, especially considering that, for the majority of our great nation's history, Obama would've been the guy serving the martinis and cigarettes to Rove at the country club, if Obama was let in at all.

This kind of utter nonsense is why, despite any frustrations I might have with the Democratic Party, I cannot vote for most Republicans (back when he was a Republican, Lincoln Chafee would have been a very notable exception). They are simply too stupid, divisive, and just plain irritating for me to take anyone affiliated with that decaying party seriously.
Kind of a slow news day.... Folks may want to check out this interesting and sophisticated take on Obama's decision to opt out of public campaign financing:

Rove needs to be "disappeared"
What Karl actually wants to say is that the country club he goes to would never let in Barack...
While in his FoxNews/GOP elite bubble it's obvious how much Rove doesn't realize his own unpopularity. Rove has been out of the mainstream since early 2005, and these snide comments by him only serve to boost Obama. If I was McCain I'd put a muzzle on him b/c the country is past this childish behavior.
No, Mr. Rove, I don't know anybody at a country club. Maybe that's why I'm voting for Obama, and not your party's preference.
These sick, out of touch, country clubbin rethuglicans will try and scare us to death into voting for McWar.

Not this time. Not again, ever. Repeat after me...President Barack Obama. There, didn't that just sound and feel fantastic. I knew you would like it. Get used to it. Keep practicing...we'll check back with you in a few months.
That's so tasteless, but not at all surprising.
Barack Obama like McCain has never been in charge at the top.  I trust Obama's judgement and innate intelligence.  McCain of Keating Five involvement,  invade Iraq judgement and dump his devoted wife morality is not qualified or healthy enough to be president.  As for that sorry excuse of an American Karl Rove, the false Christian, he should be in jail.
Charlie Black's comment reminds me of Nixon's wistful line years ago, when the generation gap was new, and he exploited the law-and-order issue after the Chicago riots: "What this country needs is a good war."

Yeah, sure.
Rove and McBush -- The promise of another 8 years
Karl Rove reminds me of the short, pot-gutted, bald dude who has to get it from prostitutes.

If you guys are gonna report that kind of gr**, you had best post our responses!
Karl Rove reminds me of the Anti-Chist that you just can't get away from!
And Karl Rove is relevant to bettering this country how?  Okay, I'll take the bait.

Karl, were you just upset because a person of color was at the country club without using the servants' entrance?

Go away.
McCain would benefit if he had a personality rather than a terrorist attack.   Carl.... you know this guy well because it is who you wished you were.  It is a shame that you don't have a clue to who Obama really is....and doesn't sound like you have really met him.  Sounds like envy to me.
Karl Roveis the grand author of the BIG PLAN to render George Shrubya Bush the absolute worst president we have ever had to suffer through.......I'll take a Conhstitutional Law professor and Senator any day.  Quit barking and sit Rover.
Rovian up-is-downism.

Which is pretty much how I view Mr. Rove -- whatever he says, then the opposite must be true.
"Obama is coolly detached and very arrogant. I think he's very smart and knows he's smart, but as a result doesn't do his homework"

That's the frighting part of Obama. He is so arrogant that he thinks he knows all the answers, but yet he can't even comprehend the questions. Quite the attitude from a man that has done essentially nothing with his life, other then enrich himself.

Obama is more cut out for teaching at a junior college where you can teach theory without actually having to know about how to do actual work.
Karl Rove says Obama reminds him of “the guy at the country club with the beautiful date, holding a martini and a cigarette that stands against the wall and makes snide comments about everyone who passes by."

Karl Rove reminds me of something that I left in the garbage.  I would say something else, however I am trying real hard to keep it clean.
Oh My Gosh! Someone is criticizing Obama!! Racists! Racists!!
I would not say this about anyone but Karl Rove:  Someone please hang that man by his gobble neck fat, from the tallest tree around, and end this terrible ability he has to speak and be heard.
It is going to take Karl Rove some time to get use to the idea that he is no longer relevant. What ever advice he is giving to the McCain campaign seems to be gratis... no real role.

And how can even he miss Obama's populist support? This whole elitist thing has never made sense to anyone even remotely familiar with Obama's background. Unless of course you consider anyone who has made it to the US Senate elitist, but then that paints McCanin with the same brush!
Please I know about the first amendment, free speech, religion, etc. However, NO MORE from Karl Rove. He worked hard to get Bush where he is, by the way where is Bush? Now he intends to do to Obama what he did to Kerry. Only the rightwing nuts see any justification for K.Rove.
How does it feel liberals? Having your guy attacked at a personal level. You've been throwing this kind of cr*p at Bush for years, now it's thrown right back in your face. Funny stuff if you ask me.
I'm still trying to figure out why Karl Rove isn't in prison . . .

In terms of the attack on U.S. soil benifitting McCain - that is the same kind of cold, political statement that was part of the undoing of Senator Clinton. Of course John McCain is a POW, so he (and his campaign) can say anything they want - the media has decided they don't have to be accountable for anything . . .

Sad that many people see everything that happens in terms of who would "benefit". Nobody benefits from an attack on America - here or anywhere else.
Bushy, Rove, Mr Magoo and GOP it will not work this time.
(@-@) Another terrorist attack on US soil would benefit McCain how?  Just curious as to what a statement like this means.......

As for Rove's asinine Obama statement- are we going back to the "elitist" type of comments.  Puh-leeeeeze!
How in the world is this news..what a joke.. November can't come fast enough..
Americablog -- “John McCain really is running Bush's 2004 campaign all over again. The politics of fear are front and center.”

Um, not to be critical or anything, but isn't this statement by Ab the politics of fear too?
As long as McCain is busy selling us out to fill the coffers of the oil companies and war profiteers, why not endanger us as well.

I'm sick of feeling like a pawn for sick little mongers of fear, war and greed. This isn't the country I want for my children and it's not the country I'll vote for come November.
It's funny that mr. rove has the nerve to speak about arrogrance, when he is in league with the worlds most
arrogrant person. If that's not calling the kettle black.
Rove needs to go to jail.
Karl Rove is an A**. Like anyone cares what he thinks this year? NOT THIS TIME! Look at the campaign McFossil is running.......Charlie Black trying to scare people into thinking the USA could be attacked again. These two are pathetic, aren't they? Just like the entire GOP and their 71 year old war monger candidate! Good for a laugh, though!
now that's what i'm talking about. it's high time this country was in good old fashioned danger again. nothing pulls this country together like a terrorist attack. thank god, john mccain's campaign has the foresight to restore our traditional values of fearing everything that goes bump in the night.

he's the man in the white house for this women in the white hood
It sounds like Charlie Black has really thought about the side benefits of an attack.

Does he have a feel for what sort of bump in the polls that might get McCain?  Is there a particular city where it does McCain the most good?  Does it just have to be property damage or is it better if people die?  Does it need to be al Qaeda or will any terrorist group do?

I would love to see the break down on that winning strategy.
Under an Obama administration, if Osama bin Laden were arrested, he'd get off with a suspended sentence.
CHARLIE BLACK A MCCAIN ADVISOR SAID ANOTHR ATTACK WOULD BENEFIT MCCAIN

SO THE REPUBLICANS ARE PLANNING ANOTHER ATTACK

IF WE HAVE ONE AFTER THIS COMMENT BY MCCAIN'S ADVISOR WE KNOW IT WAS PRE MEDIATATED.

WHY ON EARTH WOULD ANY DECENT AMERICAN MAKE SUCH A STATEMENT UNLESS THEY KNOW SOMETHING WE DO NOT.

ACTUALLY SINCE THE LAST ATTACK WAS ON PRESIDENT BUSH'S WATCH AND MCCAIN IS HIS CANDIDATE THAT WOULDHURT MCCAIN

IT PROVES AS SEN. OBAMA KEEPS SAYING WE ARE NO SAFER THAN WE WERE ON 9/11

THE ADMINISTRATION HAS SPENT A LOT OF MONEY AND WE ARE NO SAFER

SO MR. BLACK YOU SHOULD HOPE THAT DOES NOT HAPPEN.
So, I guess that would mean Karl Rove is standing next to guy who's making the snide remarks and laughing with him.

Doesn't Karl Rove remind you of that really annoying guy in high school who thought that being smart and being a smarta$$ was the same thing?

And people in this country will STILL vote for the candidates and the party that this guy represents.  yuck.
Rove's deeds qualify him for a lifetime membership at a country club in Leavenworth.
