Black apologizes

Posted: Monday, June 23, 2008 4:50 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC/NJ's Adam Aigner-Treworgy
A senior campaign official said Black did not remember making the comments in Fortune, but did not dispute the comment. The context of Black’s argument in the interview, the official said, was that John McCain is favored on national security issues and that any day that national security leads the news is a good day for McCain.

Outside McCain’s Fresno fundraiser, Black read his statement, soon to be released by the campaign, from his handwritten notes. “I deeply regret the comments -- they were inappropriate. I recognize that John McCain had devoted his entire adult life to protecting this country ... and placing its security above every other consideration.”

Fortune had reported Black said, The assassination of Benazir Bhutto in December was an ‘unfortunate event,’ says Black. ‘But his knowledge and ability to talk about it reemphasized that this is the guy who's ready to be Commander-in-Chief. And it helped us.’ As would, Black concedes with startling candor after we raise the issue, another terrorist attack on U.S. soil. ‘Certainly it would be a big advantage to him,’ says Black.”

*** UPDATE *** Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton writes in response: "Barack Obama welcomes a debate about terrorism with John McCain, who has fully supported the Bush policies that have taken our eye off of al Qaeda, failed to bring Osama bin Laden to justice, and made us less safe. The fact that John McCain’s top advisor says that a terrorist attack on American soil would be a ‘big advantage’ for their political campaign is a complete disgrace, and is exactly the kind of politics that needs to change. Barack Obama will turn the page on these failed policies and this cynical and divisive brand of politics so that we can unite this nation around a common purpose to finish the fight against al Qaeda."

"A senior campaign official said Black did not remember making the comments in Fortune"

The punchline is "Alberto Gonzales".
He should apologize. It was another disgusting comment from the McCain campaign. This country will be safer with an Obama presidency because the world will respect the US more.

Great Obama stuff!

Watching the TV/Cable news shows, one would think that Obama the only one running for presidency.  A 1 hour new show devouts about 50 minutes analyzing every move/word out of the Obama camp but about 10 minutes glossing over McCain's statements and moves.  A few here:

On IRAQ:
People are questioning Obama's judgement in stating that combat troops should be out within 16 months from February 2009.  No one is asking McCain that if Iraq is going as well as he claims, why can't combat troops be out in that period or even less.

On Women's Issues:
McCain voted against equal pay for women a few weeks back and while doing that he said that women need more training.  Imagine what would happen if Obama said that, MSM would use that as more wedge between Obama and women.  Also, McCain is very much anti-choice.  McCain has consistently voted against S-CHIP health insurance, which benefits mainly single mums and low-income families.

On Campaign Finance
All over the Sunday shows, everyone is analyzing Obama's decision to have his campaign voluntary funded by citizens lawfully.  No one is takling about McCain's possible violation of the law by opting for, taking a loan and opting out of public financing for his primary run.  The DNC currently has a lawsuit on this.

There are several other McCain's statements in which if they had come from Obama, all hell will break loose.  And these are being glossed over. For instance, McCain's statement about how tough it is to be proud of America.
Black lobbied for some of the worst people in the world....it would not surprise me at all if they attempt a FAKE attack, that is the kind of the thing the fepublicians do BEST FEAR/WAR MONGER - OK, 2nd best - they LIE LIE LIE LIE and LIE
That's right "National Security" favors Republicans.
Without smears, fears, and, queers what do they have to run on ? Not a thing  except for crony capitalism.
The Republican Party is intellectually and morally bankrupt. I am looking forward to seeing the R's go down in flames (pun intended) this November.

Knowing the Bush Crime Family they probably have sold secrets to OBL, to make sure the GOP win this election!

People have to remeber McWar is cold, he is cold in his heart! You have to be droping Napalm on women and children. You have to be cold to do those kind of things. Not the type of president I want.

Obama 08/12

Sounds like the disgusting repubs are hoping for another attack so it will "help" them get another ignorant self righteous phony elected. Some truly sorry a** people.
Forgetting things seems to be a problem in the McCain camp.

http://laststopmidwest.blogspot.com
what gets me is most Americans know the Republicans play the "fear card" but they still voted some imbecile into the oval office, not once.... but twice.
No wonder The love Guru didn't do well this weekend. The new Bin Laden tapes are on their way.

But, nice of Mr. Black to apologize. Now, will McCain get rid of him or is good old Charlie's transgression, on record, not as severe as someone getting a good deal on their loan from Countrywide when he pushed for Mr. Johnson to be let go by Senator Obama.

The hypocrisy is stifling to say the least.
Let's just see the puffball coverage that they will give to this latest McCain campaign gaffe.  The corporate media's follow-through(most likely lack of) will tell me exactly how much harder that Obama is going to have fight to win.  John McCain gets a pass on everything and I'm sure that trend will continue.
Why does MSNBC and CNN who say they provide a balance view gloss over John McCain's issues? They will comment but not dig deep and they do with Obama. Stop paying favourites. If Obama says something wrong I want to hear it and have it fairly analyzed, and if McCain does please, please do the same!!! No one of you do this. There is a basis view when it comes to the tough issues.
Americans will not be intimidated by fear-mongering or  inclinations towards war-mongering. Goodbye McCain.
When is Black going to resign??????

Obama '08
This is just another in a seemingly endless series of statements affiliated with the McCain people and McCain himself that prove being out of touch.
LOL, finally McCain has an excuse to drop Black from his campaign.  Being a lobbyist isn't a sin, but being liability..........
Not sure what the big deal is. Hillary said the same thing. Obama, as usual, appears overly sensative. He is quite delicate.
Suppose an Obama adviser had said something like "If another big natural disaster happened and Bush messed up on it like he did with Katrina, it would really help our campaign." The corporate media would go into a feeding frenzy about it for weeks. They'd stick another "gate" at the end of some word to make it into a scandal.

But for McCain's lobbyist adviser, the media will downplay this very revealing gaffe as quickly as they can. They'll all be in damage control mode for good old McBomb and his cronies.

And Black ought to know something about terrorism: he was a lobbyist for the African terrorist organization UNITAS and the butcher who led it, Jonas Savimbi.
These people sicken me.

http://infogiant.wordpress.com/
why would anybody want to vote for MCFOSSIL , come on people WAKE UP!!! we had enough of BUSH AND HIS CROONIES.  LET'S ROLL  OBAMA
I can't wait to see how the media will play this out.  Comments not made by Obama were all over the news(Wright and Flager).  I have checked all the newspapers, and not seen much action so far.

It was very bad to hear what Mr Black said.  Although I have thought this myself.
As a republican, I guess I have to keep my fingers crossed and hope for another terrorist attack!

How pathetic has my party become?  I want so hard to believe in the Republican Party and they just make it harder and harder.
I've been telling everyone to watch out - in October there will be some great threat that is broken up at the last minute (of course, we'll find out later, it was a couple of teenagers making a joke), or something fake that raises the color code to red.  Bush will do that for McBush, just wait and see.  The only question is whether the American people will actually fall for it again.

I guess the one good thing to know from Black's statements is that Benazir Bhutto didn't die in vain - she died so McBush could be the Rep nominee - how disgusting a thought/statement!!
Let's start a countdown today on how long it will be before we hear from Osama bin Laden.  I am  positive he will interject his two cents worth during this election.  Isn't it amazing that he can find us and we cannot find him?

I do believe that Osama bin Laden might be a republican!

When he is caught and goes to trial, it will be the judge and not the president that finds him guilty and sentences him.

Obama 08
Atwater, Rove, Black, what a legacy of lies.  The modern GOP is terminally infected and John McCain will be the face on its' death mask.
What good is it to wear a flag pin if you are going to make comments like this that border on treason? This goes to show how ridiculous it is for the Republicans to constantly claim that they are "more patriotic" than Democrats. In reality, it's all a farce. If a terrorist attack on the United States is what it takes to win in November, then the Republicans are all for it!
Yup, the neocons salivate every time national security leads the news, but they claim Democrats are the ones hoping for a terrorist attack.
New Wave, the "double standard" is the rule of the day.  Obama knows and accepts the challenge trust me.  It's always been that way (double standard) and it won't yield/change until it's been beaten and bloodied into submission.  Be vigilant and keep pointing out any slights, misinformation or bigotry you find.  Your attention to detail is needed and appreciated.  Thanks
As McCain keeps harping on, words do matter.  Black is a surrogate for McCain, and these words must be attributed to his campaign in the same fashion that Right-Wing pundits insisted the Rev. Wright statements gave some kind of insight into the character of Obama.  The same ca be said for John Hagee.

Either Black, Hagee and Wright reflect the views of their candidates, or they don't.  You cannot pick and choose which surrogates you choose to listen to and which ones you don't just becaue of your own personal bias.
"opppppps, sorry I was heard wishing for an attack to help my guy. Did I really say that, I wouldn't really know, I BS my clients so much I can't tell truth from fiction anymore."
signed-Charlie 'love those Myanmar tyrants' Black
Would National Security favor republicans as much if they weren't awarding so many no-bid Defense contracts?

Now, THATS where the money is!
This is how Bush won in 2004, I would not be surprised if McCain/Bush made a terriorist act not threat on US again to win. However, this time Americans are smarter then that.
This is an appalling statement and Black needs to be fired.
I don't understand how McNeedsACain can remain loyal to the Republican Party.  In the 2000 primary Bush threw him under the bus by implying that the cleft-lip Vietnamese baby he adopted was actually his illegitimate war baby.

He must really hate those tax & spend Democrats if he remains such a staunch supporter of fiscally conservative Republicans.  Oh wait I forgot, the Republicans are not fiscally conservative anymore.  Instead of tax & spend, they just spend.  Mostly on stupid wars like Iraq and the war on drugs.  Talk about throwing our money down the futile-drain.

Forget Black.  When is Obama going to quit for playing the race card on Fri.  Remember, in the beginning, he said he'd NEVER use race in this election.  Well, he did on Fri along with the fear card. Another big FLIP FLOP on BO's part.  Can't you people see the reverse psychology that goes on with Obama?  Lord deliver us IF this man gets elected.
Hey, all mr Black has to do is say "that's not what I meant" or "you're taking my words out of context."  Works for Obama so why shouldn't it work for others???????
Interesting, Obama says he'd gladly debate McCain on Al Qaida.  Ok, then, why are you running from the townhall meetings?  Oh, forgot.  Just another FLIP FLOP.  Seems to me we heard you say several times you looked forward to debating McCain "anytime, any place."  chicken!
I have no doubt that McSame/Bush and Karl Rove are already making plans to engineer a terrorist attack before November. After all, it's obvious that they've been thinking long and hard on what would give him a "Big Advantage." Those right wing warmongers are shameless and will do anything to hold on to power.
Sorry Obamobots, but even your liberal MSNBC agreed as well as a poll, when it comes to security, McCain is trusted more than Obama.
This isn't charlie black of jesses helms racist ad fame is it?

Senator Mccain you are who you associate with and this man is a racist right wing loon who will get you in trouble
Look for the color coded scare tactics to return this fall along with lots of this kind of innuendo and smear.

It is amazing to see how far down the toilet the republican brand has been flushed since 1994...they don't much look like the republican party of Reagan
"However, this time Americans are smarter then that."

Sadly I will have to disagree with you.  This country is still predominately stupid...which is frightening.
I think the media looks over alot of the things that McCain does because they have been accused of being too easy on Obama.  During the primary they probably got a lot of heat because some people thought they were too easy on Obama.  So now they don't want to show they are hard on him, but now they are being accused of being to easy on McCain.  You would think they would be able to report both sides.  They are in a hard place right now.  Hopefully they will be fair before it's too late.
Our Republican friends have to run on terror and fear.  If they had to run on the issues, they would never win another election.  It would be like 1936 when they had 75 Representatives and 12 Senators.
For heavens sakes!  In a campaign with more malapropisms than a Bush State of the Union Address, recognize this for what it is.  He misspoke.  Michelle Obama misspoke.  Charlie Black does not want the US attacked, and Michelle Obama is patriotic.  Let it go.  This country has serious problems and needs serious people to address them.  My personal choice for that job is Obama, but I don't have to make up stuff about McCain or his advisors to comvince me. McCains record and his flip flops do that just fine.
It'd not only be good for the campaign, but it'd be good for your lobbying business, right Mr. Black you scumball.
This is insane. Black should be arrested and sent to Gitmo. It just goes to show you. The people who are running our government have serious issues. McCain feels exactly the same way in regards to what was expressed in Black's statement. Because if he didn't, Black wouldn't be in his circle. Politically or otherwise. I know this wasn't the first time that Mr. Black has made a controverial statement. To throw Black under the bus now would only be for political reasons.

As for McCain, this guy is as funny as he looks. Every issue which made him a Maverick, McCain has flipped- flopped. And he has the nerve to critize Obama for changing his mind and opting out of Public Campaing Finance, which his campaign is technichally being funded by the public. The American Public. McCain is losing his marbles, right before our eyes. (Poor fella). He senses defeat because Obama is going to make him defend states that republicans traditionaly win. Not to mention, John McCain's wife cheats to win baking contests. Is it that serious, Cindy? Can we trust anything that comes out of your mouth, being that you will cheat? You will probably lie as well.

All in all, I've had it with McCain and the Republicans. This latest episode proves that the Republican Party is no longer the party of ideas. They have become the party of hate and resentment. Desperate enough to do anything to win. Anything like: using deception, division, fear, smear and the list goes on. They just don't get it. Get a vision. Until you do, I can not longer vote for you.

Obama '08  and maybe '12.
John McCain's campaign has just been flailing along these past couple of months.  They remind me more and more of the Dole campaign.  Black's comments are inexcusable!  What do you want to bet though, that the media will give McCain a pass on it?  The media is so pro-McCain that it is sickening.  Black should be fired!
FIRE HIM!!
