More on Obama, Clinton Unity stop

Posted: Tuesday, June 24, 2008 3:09 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC/NJ's Mike Memoli

Tammy Dowd, secretary to the Selectmen of Unity, N.H., confirms the Clinton-Obama event will be held outside of the Unity Elementary School. Dowd says Secret Service is there now "setting up shop." The staff at town hall has been told otherwise that they'll be given information on a "need-to-know basis."

They've been getting a lot of calls from people in New Hampshire asking how to get there, and also from people in New York and Massachusetts looking for directions from the closest airports.

"I'm guessing the entire town will show up," Dowd said, which would account for about 1,700 people. As for other visitors, "I'm hoping our one store stocks up," Dowd said.

Jim Demers, one of Obama's New Hampshire co-chairs, said the campaign will be sending more logisitical information by the end of the day. They're expecting a big turnout and are working to determine the best way to get people in and out of the town, since there is really just one main road. They'll probably be doing some shuttles from some bigger towns nearby.

John McCain cannot be trusted. When I think nuclear power I think 3 mile island and Cherbnyol.
I also think John McCain's voting record against alternate energy depicts untrustworthiness because he may consider safety pork.
What a joke! Is this the best that the dems can provide? We're doomed!
What time on Friday? Afternoon or evening?  I'm looking forward to it.
Gee whiz, is someone hosing the place down so the King and Queen of Liberals won't get any dust on their petticoats?
Wow, this is very interesting.  YAWN.

‘…Deals With Iraq Are Set to Bring Oil Giants Back

By ANDREW E. KRAMER
Published: June 19, 2008

BAGHDAD — Four Western oil companies are in the final stages of negotiations this month on contracts that will return them to Iraq, 36 years after losing their oil concession to nationalization as Saddam Hussein rose to power.

Shell, Total and BP — the original partners in the Iraq Petroleum Company — along with Chevron and a number of smaller oil companies, are in talks with Iraq’s Oil Ministry for no-bid contracts to service Iraq’s largest fields, according to ministry officials, oil company officials and an American diplomat.

The deals, expected to be announced on June 30, will lay the foundation for the first commercial work for the major companies in Iraq since the American invasion, and open a new and potentially lucrative country for their operations.

The no-bid contracts are unusual for the industry, and the offers prevailed over others by more than 40 companies, including companies in Russia, China and India. The contracts, which would run for one to two years and are relatively small by industry standards, would nonetheless give the companies an advantage in bidding on future contracts in a country that many experts consider to be the best hope for a large-scale increase in oil production.

There was suspicion among many in the Arab world and among parts of the American public that the United States had gone to war in Iraq precisely to secure the oil wealth these contracts seek to extract. The Bush administration has said that the war was necessary to combat terrorism. It is not clear what role the United States played in awarding the contracts; there are still American advisers to Iraq’s Oil Ministry.

Sensitive to the appearance that they were profiting from the war and already under pressure because of record high oil prices, senior officials of two of the companies, speaking only on the condition that they not be identified, said they were helping Iraq rebuild its decrepit oil industry….

Hey !
What about Halliburton ?

Don’t THEY get something too ????

Why would the Iraqi government issue 'NO BID' contracts ?

Is this in the interests of Iraq ?
the Iraqi people ?

Or American apointed Quislings ?
Granite Staters can handle this, no problem (the state gets flooded during the primary season, after all!)

They should have thought about the event being on a Friday, though... everyone will be headed up to their lake camps for the weekend!
WE'RE UNITED DAMN IT!! GET THAT THROUGH YOUR THICK LITTLE SKULLS!! U NITE IT!!! GOT IT??!!
Hillary should debunk the Muslim lie and go to mosque with Obama. That would  be UNITY!
Dear Republican Party:

Operation Chaos will officially end in Unity, New Hampshire. While it muddied the waters for a while, it has not accomplished it's goal. The Democratic Party is uniting and you are left with only one line of attack: Be afraid.

Good luck with that.
It's going to be pretty funny when Hillary sucker punches Barack.
If the Democrats are in charge, and Obama is captured, oh sorry, arrested, one of the ACLU lawyers will get him off on a technicality, and bin Laden would then be elected mayor of Berekley.

It is unbelievable how much the Democrats hate this country, they are actually cheering for bin Laden to be successful for their own meager political gain.

Oh wow how I wish you could say that to my face. It's your good 'ol boys in the WH who don't have the balls to even tell Musharef that we are going in after him. You guys are the biggest cowards in the world. You are afraid of Pakistan for god sakes! You call them our number one ally on the war on terror as they happily protect the number one terrorist in the world! Explain that to me Trevor.
You know I was alot more comfortable when I thought the Republicans were evil. Now that I know they are nothing but just plain stupid it makes me much more uncomfortable.
So Trevor, You are just another ignorant hick of a right winger spewing ridiculous venom strewed garbage because you don't have the intelligence to make a valid point.
I have got to stay away from this place. It can't be good foer my blood pressure.
I would love to sit and talk to Hillary Clinton as she is a very intelligent woman.

I would not walk across the street to see Obama.

We also have Unity in Maine. Along with Freedom and Liberty. Out of the way places, but worth the trip.
Wouldn't it make sense to hold the event in a town that's equipped to hold the crowd and that is easy to get to?

Just saying...
Affirmative action for REPUBLICANS !!

'Set Asides' for Conservatives !!

From the NY Times:

'...Report Sees Illegal Hiring Practices at Justice Department

By ERIC LICHTBLAU
Published: June 25, 2008

WASHINGTON -- Justice Department officials over the last six years illegally used “political or ideological” factors to hire new lawyers into an elite recruitment program, tapping law school graduates with conservative credentials over those with liberal-sounding resumes, a new report found Tuesday.

U.S. AttorneysThe blistering report, prepared by the Justice Department’s inspector general, is the first in what will be a series of investigations growing out of last year’s scandal over the firings of nine United States attorneys. It appeared to confirm for the first time in an official examination many of the allegations from critics who charged that the Justice Department had become overly politicized during the Bush administration.

“Many qualified candidates” were rejected for the department’s honors program because of what was perceived as a liberal bias, the report found. Those practices, the report concluded, “constituted misconduct and also violated the department’s policies and civil service law that prohibit discrimination in hiring based on political or ideological affiliations.”

The shift began in 2002, when advisers to then-Attorney General John Ashcroft restructured the honors program in response to what some officials saw as a liberal tilt in recruiting young lawyers from elite law schools like Harvard and Yale. While the recruitment was once controlled largely by career officials in each section who would review applications, political officials in the department began to assume more control, rejecting candidates with liberal or Democratic affiliations “at a significantly higher rate” than those with Republican or conservative credentials, the report said.

The shift appeared to accelerate in 2006, under then-Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales, with two aides on the screening committee — Michael Elston and Esther Slater McDonald — singled out for particular criticism. The blocking of applicants with liberal credentials appeared to be a particular problem in the Justice Department’s civil rights division, which has seen an exodus of career employees in recent years as the department has pursued a more conservative agenda in deciding what types of cases to bring.

Applications that contained what were seen as “leftist commentary” or “buzz words” like environmental and social justice were often grounds for rejecting applicants, according to e-mails reviewed by the inspector general’s office. Membership in liberal organizations like the American Constitution Society, Greenpeace, or the Poverty and Race Research Action Council were also seen as negative marks.

Affiliation with the Federalist Society, a prominent conservative group, was viewed positively.

Representative John Conyers Jr., the Michigan Democrat who heads the House Judiciary Committee, saw the report as affirmation that the Justice Department had crossed the line in “putting politics where it doesn’t belong.”

“When it comes to the hiring of nonpartisan career attorneys,” Mr. Conyers said, “our system of justice should not be corrupted by partisan politics. It appears the politicization at Justice was so pervasive that even interns had to pass a partisan litmus test. ‘’

The inspector general is still investigating other issues related to alleged politicization of the Justice Department, including the central question of why nine United States attorneys were fired in late 2006. Those findings have not been made public....'

This corrupt scandal brought to you by the Bush Administration....

John McCain, More of the Same

John McCain, Endless War

Why does Obama’s Certification of Live Birth say “Date Filed with Registrar” in the lower left area, in contrast to Patricia Decosta’s certification (offered for comparison), which says “Date Accepted by State Registrar???
Democrats.  Might as well be reds as social as they seem.  Of course I'm getting awful sick of McCain calling just any one friend.  Ha!  Some pansy greenie "My friend"  yea and come on over for some barbeque, too.  Let's just get on with the town hall meetings and show regular people how far out the beautiful people are.
I hope they can at least announce soon what time the event will take place... Also, what about restrictions? Will backpacks be allowed, etc?
Looking at this nonsense, and you get the feeling the liberals of this country just need this sense of some kind of faux royality in their lives. Obvioulsy something is missing from their lives that creates this need. Just like Paris Hilton, and other Hollywood free loaders, Hillary and Barack are elevated to some kind of weird star status when they really haven't done, well, anything. They are just famous for being famous.
Hopefully some of the irritated Clinton supporters are finally going to back Obama and this party in order to get Obama in the White House. Maybe this event will help spawn that transition that has not quite happened yet.

It is going to be crazy trying to get in/out of Unity that day. I grew up the next town over (Goshen), so I know the area very well. That "main" road is your typical 1-lane each direction country road. If even a hundred cars try to converge on Unity at once, it is going to be a rough couple of hours just getting into town, nevermind finding parking.
Sounds like a logistics nightmare.  The Obama camp should have thought about that before selecting that location. Get ready Unity for CNN, NBC, ABC, et.al.  Hope you have enough restrooms.
The whole town will show up? Doesn't anyone there have jobs? The maple syrup season is over though, so maybe everyone is just hanging out on their porches.
The entire town will show up...all twelve residents.  They'll drown in a sea of outsiders.  I just hope the Clintonistas don't start trouble...
not worth even considering to go

The Democrats are showing real unity today as they gut medicare while they bail out the mortgage brokers! Go to my blog to follow the links.
What, no story about the discount loans given to some of our finest Senators? Appears Dodd and Conrad got caught getting subprime loans that normal people never have access to. Little favors to the loan industry being traded in return Mr. Dodd and Mr. Conrad?

Perhaps we haven't heard about this little problem because its just Democrats at the moment?
I want to know why all of a sudden we have so many "repukes" on here now.  I guess they are wondering away from their Fox home.

What's wrong, Fox Noise is not meeting your needs?  Pretty hard to argue with your disgraceful selves about how you screwed this nation.

Republicans= No Accountability, No Responsibility and all Talk and No Action.

Waiting to be called a liberal; once again.

The Democrats will fix this mess with the help of Clinton, Obama, and the other caring members of society, while the some of the republican party name call and remain to be the flaming idiots of society.
Clinton Ego at work.

Location: State She Won.

Name: Unity (Ticket she hopes she can force)

Vote Count: 107-107 (Remember people she didn't lose, its a tie)

And people thought Clintons would simply fade away.........
Times Joe Klein said "People like Obama aren't welcome at Republican country clubs". First, what kind of "people" is Obama? And I didn't know that country clubs were segregated into Democratic and Republican camps. I guess "people" like Tiger Woods are not allowed at these Republican golf course either? I'm sure there's a list, could someone post what country clubs where Barack is not welcome?

All kidding aside. Democrats are the ones that bring up race more times then not. It must be their collective guilt on the issue that drives that need.
If obama had "lost" the primary, as Hillary had, he'd still be marching in the streets with the likes of Sharpton, J Jackson, & Farrakhan. Good thing he "won" huh?
Boy, this is going to be big.  I kind of feel sorry for that little town.  They will be mowed down by that crowd coming.  But hey, this is a good thing!
Norman Thomas Quote in early 1900's:

"The American people will never knowingly
adopt Socialism. But under the name of
'liberalism' they will adopt every fragment of
the Socialist program, until one day
America will be a Socialist nation,
without knowing how it happened."

Yup!  Vote Obama . . . you won't know what hit you!
Obama and Hillary may be united (althought I doubt it) and her voters are united too.  Hillocrats are united in an effort to stop Obama.

McCain 08
Who cares about Hillary and Obama.  They are just 2 politicians of the old mold.  They are all about the money.  One has plenty and the other wants him to take care of her debts.  Barack should have taken public financing and not been a person that you can not believe in.
