The general: Another double-digit lead

Posted: Wednesday, June 25, 2008 9:15 AM by Mark Murray

A new Los Angeles Times/Bloomberg poll seems to back up the Newsweek poll. This new survey has Obama up 12 points over McCain (49%-37%). More: "On a four-man ballot that included independent candidate Ralph Nader and Libertarian Bob Barr, voters chose Obama over McCain by 48% to 33%.”

VIDEO: Newsweek's Jon Meacham comes in to talk about his magazine's poll, which has Barack Obama leading by 14 percent. He also talks with the Morning Joe crew about Obama's response to the GOP's criticism.

“Obama's lead -- bigger in this poll than in most other national surveys -- appears to stem largely from his positions on domestic issues. Both Democrats and independent voters said Obama would do a better job than McCain at handling the nation's economic problems, the public's top concern. In contrast, many voters said McCain was the more experienced candidate and better equipped to protect the nation against terrorism -- but they ranked those concerns below economic issues.”

“McCain suffers from a pronounced ‘passion gap,’ especially among conservatives who usually give Republican candidates a reliable base of support. Among voters who described themselves as conservative, 58% said they would vote for McCain; 15% said they would vote for Obama, 14% said they would vote for someone else, and 13% said they were undecided. By contrast, 79% of voters who described themselves as liberal said they planned to vote for Obama."

Bloomberg News: "One bright spot for McCain, who recently abandoned his opposition to offshore drilling for oil and natural gas, is a high level of support for more drilling."

Remember those exurbs that were so good to Bush in 2004? Well, the New York Times takes a look at how the rising cost of living is making life in the exurbs harder.

CNN reported yesterday than Gordon Smith, the Oregon Republican senator is running Ads showing how close he is to Obama.

A GOP senator is running from McCain and towards Obama in a re-election Ad.
Bloomberg poll you say? Isn't Bloomberg the guy that shines Baracks shoes when Obama is in New York?

Sorry Johnny your Washington Post numbers are sure to drop. People are not that stupid and we want prosperity.

On the other hand, Johnny boy, you’re the one confused; your ill-tempered manner is disrespectful and totally an unpleasant disposition not only to the presumptive Democratic nominee, Barack Obama, but also the American people, the Middle East, and the world. Everyone knows your duel personality is that of a war monger.

Habeas corpus is an expertise you have the least understanding. Unlike Barack Obama, you are not a brilliant, constitutional scholar; neither did graduate “magna cum laude”. You graduated at bottom of your class number 5.

OLD MAN YELLS AT POLLS..

lol

Seems to back it up?

Give it up folks - the BOUNCE has been found - so Pat Buchanan and Joe Scarborough can stop looking for it now!

Repeat after me:

Barack Obama HAS a DOUBLE DIGIT lead in the polls, despite an orchestrated campaign by the media and the McCain campaign to distort his record and question his patriotism. Yet another blow to politics/media as usual.

America is paying attention - and they are not falling for the fear and smear game - not this time.

It is going to be funny watching all these unemployed former politicians/pundits/cronies looking for real jobs after the election without their lobbying gigs to fall back on - can't wait!

Maybe they can get some of these "blue collar" jobs they are so enamored with! :)

Obama/Biden '08/'12
Lipps...
Conservatives want to stay as far away from polls as possible. They can't find one that shows "the best the GOP could come up with" as holding is own That must be a horrific feeling. What a bunch of losers! Losers now, losers in November. Bye,bye!
Too far to tell. At the rate Obama is doing right now, he might implode before November. What keeps him going is his handlers telling what to do as if he's a puppet... and his eloquence hides this fact.
Nader and Barr won't have too much effect, I don't think. Third party candidates generate some buzz early, but when it comes time to pull the lever (or mark the screen, whatever) only the hardcore supporters stay with them. The rest will pick the lesser of the major party 'evils.'

Barr might have a little impact in Georgia, particularly his old congressional district, but I wouldn't bet a lot of cash on that, either.
I remember John Kerry was whipping President Bush in 2004.....

Funny how that race ended.....

Yes, I trust the polls.  Off shore drilling will be a negative impact for McOld in the Carolinas, Georgia, Flordia, Alabamma, Mississippi, Oregon, Washington state.
McSames comments regarding NAFTA in Canada will cost him votes in Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Penn. And...
wait for the Debates.  Obama will outshine the old fellow and the outcome will become more obvious. You can go the the bank on it...If you have any money after filling up your car.
Currently, there are seven (7) polls out with data on the general election.

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2008/president/us/general_election_mccain_vs_obama-225.html

The average spread on those seven polls is 7.5%, not "double digits."
FIRST READ, you are hereby admonished to stop the Obama cheerleading, and simply report the news like you are supposed to.
Is the truth, too much to ask for?
Larry Lipps, that's fair, except for the fact that the same polls had them very tight only a few weeks ago.

But I'll admit I say the same thing when fox puts out a poll.

Both of us are stuck in partisan mindsets. It would be nice not to think that way, (but still be skeptical of all polls) :-)
Good news for Obama and bad news for exburbs?  Goodness gracious, what a fine day!
Bob Barr puts Georgia into Democratic column this year. The seeds of the coming landslide have been planted. Harvest will come the first Tuesday of November and a new and better country will be born that day.

Your memory is incorrect.  From the time of the end of the primaries, until the election in 2004, Bush had maintained a national lead over Kerry, albeit, by only a couple of points and almost always within the margin of error.  Check it out.

Is it also a lie that the country is worse off now than 7 1/2 years ago? Is it a lie to say we're in a war with Iraq that never should have been waged to begin with? Is it a lie to say the economy is in the toilet and Bush has run up a 3 TRILLION dollar deficit when he HAD a surplus? Is it a lie that the BEST candidate the GOP has to offer is a 71 year war monger that can't even get out of a car without hitting his head? Is it a lie that McFossil voted 95% of the time WITH Bush and his presidency would be a third Bush term? Is it ANY surprise that Obama is ahead in the polls??????? I think not.
>> Off shore drilling will be a negative impact for
>> McOld in the Carolinas, Georgia, Flordia,
>> Alabamma, Mississippi, Oregon, Washington state.

$8/gal fuel prices will have a negative impact on tourists showing up in Carolinas, Georgia, Florida, Alabama and Mississippi (the beaches have come back nicely),Oregon, Washington State, and oh yes, California.

But you are right, vacations are for losers. Better to work harder to support paying for your gas bill.
Jerry, Corpus Christi, Texas:

Kerry was a wuss.  He didn't have a response to the 527 that brought him down.  Obama on the other hand is fighting tooth and nail and is responding quickly to everything thrown at him.  He is prepared for whatever the Republican 527's, McCain and the RNC are concocting.

Once again comparing gold to dog poop.  Get your head out of the past and into the here-and-now.

jerry, your an idiot. The major polls in the Bush/Kerry race had Bush up every step of the way, even if it was by a point or two. At no time did Kerry lead the overall poll numbers at any length of time. A quick Google search should provide you with the numbers.

How do people like you live with yourselfs? And why does MSNBC let clowns with no facts/truth post here?
My most recent poll shows that 100% of the people surveyed want Joe S. and Pat B. off the air.

Obama 08

Life is a lot better. For Obama!! He's multimillionaire now. He wasn't 8 years ago. See how easy this is libs?
ARE YOU BETTER OFF TODAY THAN 8 YEARS AGO?
McCain is making it abundantly clear that he would embrace the failed policies of George W. Bush. With Bush going down in history as being one of the worst president in the U.S., it's no surprise that McCain is falling short in the polls. This country can not afford to have another failure for a president.
By the time November rolls around McClown will look and sound even more the relic that he is. While Obama indeed may not be perfect by his own admission and wisely so, but, decent and compassionate he is. McDead Brain left his suffering and disabled wife who was seriously injured in an automobile accident for the much younger and much richer woman whose now his wife. How's that for character and integrity? You can get more of either from a Cracker Jack box surprise. What a chump. He'll no doubt soon be seen by women all over this country for the old raggedy dog he really is.

I don't know about the polls being that much ahead for Kerry, but I do know that we can expect the republicans to start hitting hard on terrorism.  I'm sure we'll see Osama bin Laden pretty soon with his election message.  We'll start hearing about foilded attacks and alerts at airports like crazy.  I don't know about you, but I am more afraid to vote for an idiot and his party that wants to scare me into it.  It really makes me mad and my anger is going to trump the fear card this time!

Obama 08
The more America learns about the North Dakota and Montana oil fields, the more trouble for Republicans.

The 1999 US Geological Survey called it the "largest oil discovery in the lower 48 states".  Even larger than Texas.

The fact the Republicans controlled everything from 2001-2006 and never pushed the oil companies to pursue drilling in the largest oil field will be called the biggest cover done by Bush/Cheney and Republican controlled Congress.

They kept our focus on an unpopular war and drove up oil prices.

Shame on McCain for talking about off shore oil when the North Dakota and Montana oil field has enough oil to meet US consumption for 20 years.

Listen I still have a 400 cu in engine and can scoot down the street when I want to but this bologna about drilling more in the ocean is a scam and don't be fooled.  Gas prices won't ever go below $3.00 or $3.50 again.  This country can and will find a way.  I may have to sell the Firebird and buy a battery car but that's living.  In the mean time I still like to eat a lot of shrimp and please hold the oil.

I agree, but keep Mika!  I could look at Mika all day long!  Pat always looks as confused as McGeriatric, and Joe is...well...strange, to say the least.
As a republican (small "r")
I am embarassed by the failed policies of not really connecting with the American people...War, fear and mongering is not the outstanding characteristics this country needs to leave the impression to the other nations of the world and certainly not to our children...
The culture of kill, take and shoot are over...we need build, give and mend for many years to make up for this tragedy we call home....

-----------------------------------------------
Yeah, Kerry was a wuss, and Obama is really macho. I get him confused for Clint Eastwood a lot.  What exactly is being thrown at Obama, by the way?  Baby Alex ads?
The News Hour had a couple of "experts" on talking about the "new speculators" in the oil market. These new speculators are state employee pension funds and college endowments. The "expert" said the problem is these people aren't only buying up oil, but holding onto it longer than normal traders. He also said these aren't bad people and if they knew what they were doing to the country they'd be shocked. I don't buy that. I think these two arms of the democrat machine know exactly what they're doing.
Obama or McCain, whomever is elected, will have plenty of checks and balances that will keep them  from getting too carried away as President (although Congress should have done a better job checking GWB regarding Iraq). The fact is the President has minimal impact regarding oil prices and the economy and any policy that the Amercian people or Congress think is way off base. I can see only one reason to vote for either of the candidates. And that is the one who incites people. The one who incites particpation of the youth and gets them more involved in their futures. The one who truly wants to protect our environment (screw the drilling), and the one who can give a State of the Union Address that is worth watching because they are good at speaking and motivating people. The choice is clear, Obama. Pick McCain and if you think his administration will be different from the same old boring politics you better think twice. Can you imagine trying to listen to McCain giving a State of the Union Address. My God, he'll put more then 3/4s of the people asleep and trhen we will really be in trouble. I mean it will give the terrorists the perfect opportunity to sneak up on us because we will all be snoozing during a McCain speech.

The american public has also seen the effects of not electing Kerry as President.  Fool us once, shame on you...

I've voted Independent the last 4 elections...not this time, I am confident in Baracks abilities, his plan, and most of all his judgement (which in my eyes is the most important quality for a president)
There really is a movement for change in America.  I've been on the Obama express since it left the station in February '07.  Finally, the movement is taking hold across America.  That's why Obama has a double digit lead right now and that lead is going to grow.  When you're out on the streets, whose name do you hear people talking about?  McCain?  No, way, Baby.  Obama is the man everyone is talking about.  Obama will bring about the change this country so desperately needs.  Obama '08
Obama is really macho. I get him confused for Clint Eastwood a lot. --Not God Bless, America, G-D America

I am not surprised. Here is a clue for you Not God; Eastwood is a lot older looking.
It doesn't matter, in 04 the media said that kerry was beating Bush badly,  the media generally always pull for the Democratic candidate, as we found out with Hillary Obama polls much better than his actual election results will be.
NGB,A,G-D A,

You too?  I see Clint Eastwood every time!  Riight...

Not that macho, but still much, much better than Kerry.

Nothing is being thrown at Senator Obama by the Republicans...YET.  On the other hand, he had so much thrown at him by Senator Clinton that there is really very little left that wouldn't be old news (thus giving a good comparison between Senator McCain and his supporters if they choose to dig up OLD news.)  Senator Obama was pretty thoroughly vetted in the primary and fought back well enough to win.  We are likely to see half-hearted attempts at this point and they will be quickly disposed of (unlike Kerry.)  For all the faults of the Clinton campaign, they really did a good job of getting the Democratic candidate ready for anything.

Senator McCain really doesn't have a chance so how about joining the winning team and voting for Senator Obama?  You could do worse, like voting for Bush III and being a loser!
Well I am from Canada and they did a poll here (to see what we thought i guess) and Obama is leading by huge magins. He is well respected here, mostly because people actually read. Our news..the CBC...is run more like the BBC in Britain so very dry and "Just the facts Ma'am". I find your news quite funny actually, especially Nancy Grace and Glenn Beck. Tabloid journalism at it's best!! I wish we had someone like Obama. He is like a breath of fresh air.
It is the first time that I have seen this much international interest in an American election....And before anyone says keep your Canadian butt out... My brother is in Iraq..he is an American...and I want him home safe.
I suppose the participation of bob Barr was no accident.  Why not throw in Hillary against Obama and see what the numbers say then.  Only morons would not see how the structure of questions lead directly to the desired outcome.
I'm a democrat but I think we need to have alternate points of view on shows like MSNBC.  Unlike what the administration of the last 8 years has done to squash alternate points of view, I have no problem with other opinions. That's what American ideals are about.

Obama needs to get on the offensive though.  He seems to be in reaction mode.  I really want him to set the agenda with big ideas and looking 'presidential', but I see McCain's camp doing that now.  I'd like to see Obama's camp show thought leadership NOW.  Please don't let it slip away in PA...Obama leaving a vacuum where people don't really know who he is and McCain filling that vacuum with messages about Obama breaking his word.  You have the stage now...show us something. Can we please have a campaign about big ideas for big problems?...media needs to stop focusing on the latest quasi 'gaffe'.
The best these people can do is personally bash McCain because of his age.  How about talking about issues.  The paucity of real thought in this campaign and among the American people says everything that needs to be said about this country-- from both the left and the right

Chris - I most definitely agree with you Joe S and Pat B should be on Fox News.  I cringe when I even see them open their big mouths.  Especially Pat B. he needs to be dealt with.
The speculators know exactly what they are doing!  They are making loads and loads of money for themselves!  THe REASON for history making PROFITS by BIG OIL...QUARTER AFTER QUARTER!  IF this wasn't caused by speculators...
BIG OIL wouldn't be making the BIG PROFITS..
it's that simple people!

HALIBURTON!!

But that has NOTHING to do with the URGENT NEED..especially NOW..to DRILL.. DRILL.. DRILL!!
with Haliburton presumably on it's way out..if Obama gets the office.
I mean really people....
you have to feel sorry for Halliburton...
THey invested in a war in a foreign country...
they made paltry BILLIONS!  And now sadly that might be coming to an end!
What is Haliburton to do now???
Bush/Cheney want to make sure their buddies...have a future you know!  I mean...what if Halliburton no longer makes BILLIONS??  What would happen to Bush and Cheney's friends???  Who will take care of Haliburton, B&R, Blackwater...once Bush is gone?
McCain?
Well sure he will..but he has to get the office first!  So Bushey has to make sure their future is set in stone, BEFORE he leaves office!  Sooo...the next time you go to pump gas in your car...say a pray for Haliburton!  That the frantic, desperate calls for Drilling by McCain/Bush are heeded!  You can certainly give a little more at the pump for Haliburton...can't you??  It's kinda like being a foster parent...doing good for you fellow man..donating to charity...come on it's "Haliburton" America!!

The only one who speaks the truth is Obama...
it is speculators..ENRON LOPPHOLES....
that allow speculators...
to RAKE the American people over the coals..in WAR time!!

Thou shall not lie...Words to live by!

Clinging to My Gun in PA (Sent Wednesday, June 25, 2008 10:38 AM)

As someone who grew up in PA, I am not only embarrassed by the morons from the "focus group", but by morons like you. The only reason Obama got into trouble for what he said about "clinging to guns and religion" was because it was the truth, especially about PA.

Turn on Fox Noise, grab a Yuengling and lower your IQ a few more points.

PRobably won't get posted, but as an Obama supporter, I like Scarborough. I used to appreciate the angle from which Buchanan came from but calling someone "exotic" is a bit much for me.

HEre's hoping that this 10 point lead holds through November 6, 2008.
