THE SHORT LIST.

Obama manager David Plouffe was asked if he thinks a VP candidate selection could help carry a state. “I don’t think that’s going to be a factor in selection,” he said. He pointed to Al Gore and Dick Cheney as examples of not choosing based simply on electoral math.

WHAT THEY’RE UP TO.
Hillary Clinton spoke to members of the House today, for 10 minutes, “stressing the importance of electing more Democrats to Congress and Sen. Barack Obama to the White House.” “I will do everything I can to ensure Sen. Obama is elected president,” she said. “This was a very difficult campaign, let’s be honest. It caused some heartburn…but we are a family. We are the Democratic Party, and we are on the same team. So let’s go out and win in November,” she concluded, to a standing ovation.

KS Gov. Kathleen Sebelius (D) predicted that Republicans would undertake "a major effort to try and frighten people about" Obama because of his race. “That has been the Republican playbook for the last eight years," said Sebelius. “‘He’s not qualified, he’s somebody who should scare you. He’s too liberal.’” She also refused to comment on VP speculation.

FL Gov. Charlie Crist (R) “evoked President Kennedy's challenge to land on the moon and called for the same dedication and innovation” in tackling climate change.

He also clarified his oil drilling stance, saying it would have to be “far enough, safe enough, and clean enough.”

Florida Democrats meanwhile wonder if Crist’s Everglades announcement was more veep posturing.

LA Gov. Bobby Jindal (R) released a statement saying he was “outraged” over the Supreme Court decision on child rape. “It is an affront to the people of Louisiana and the jury’s unanimous decision in this case. … The Supreme Court is dead wrong.”

Retired Marine Gen. Jim Jones is appearing with Obama, after being on the plane with McCain.

Chris Dodd apologized for getting emotional about a hold up to the housing foreclosure bill.

The Center for U.S. Global Engagement talks to Tom Ridge about the campaign.

ON THE RECORD.
Sen. Evan Bayh (D-IN) was asked by Andrea Mitchell if he’d accept a VP offer, and said it’s not something one turns down. “The answer to that is ‘Yes,’” he said. He also hinted he’s being vetted. “I can't talk about all that, as you can appreciate. Otherwise, I'd disqualify myself for consideration.”

Rep. Chet Edwards (D-TX) released a statement saying that he has not met with the Obama campaign regarding the VP nomination, adding: “I would not want to speculate on the names being considered.” He said he was “humbled” that Nancy Pelosi floated his name.

Bill Richardson got the question on Fox & Friends. “I don't worry about stuff like that, because you guys know I love my job as governor, and I'm very happy here, and I just want to see Senator Obama get elected. That's what I'm trying to do. ... It'd be an honor, but I'm not seeking it. I've got plenty to do. I'm having a good time as governor."

ELECTORAL MATH.
In the LA Times/Bloomberg poll, Hillary Clinton has a 49/39 fav/unfav rating. Bill Clinton’s was 52/36

CHATTERING CLASS.
The National Review, which endorsed Mitt Romney, has a list of unacceptable VP choices for McCain: Crist, Ridge, Mike Huckabee and Joe Lieberman.

A Dallas Morning News writer makes the case for and against Chet Edwards. On the plus side, he’s a conservative Democrat from a red state, and is older but not “ancient.” Also has a record in the field of military affairs. On the negative side, he’s little known, and wouldn’t likely help much in Texas.

Huffington Post says Sen. Jim Webb (D-VA) wowed Dem partisans at the Beverly Hills Hilton.

Here’s one vote for Sarah Palin

Obama is just so dreamy. Like, can't he just pick all of the people that want to be VP? Maybe, like, they could all do it one day a week or something? I mean, like, that would be most fair ya'know.
Obama's #1 choice for VP? Bill Clinton.
Bredesen of Tennessee, Richardson of New Mexico or Sebelius of Kansas...governors and that's my guess how Obama will choose.  All qualified and it would sure be nice to see any of those states in Obama's column.
In choosing a VP, I would think that ability to govern (for both the Pres and VP) far supercedes any concerns about helping to win the election. First of all, the election is for one day.....governance is for four years. Also, there is no guarantee that a VP candidate will cement his home state for that candidacy.
I take it that Jindal's Catholicism is guiding him in his disapprobation of the Supremes?
FR == KS Gov. Kathleen Sebelius (D) predicted that Republicans would undertake "a major effort to try and frighten people about" Obama because of his race. “

All these predictions, and the only one that seems to be doing this is Obama himself. He's the one that keeps injecting race as an issue. Him and other Democrats such as Sebelius, Ferraro, Wright, Jackson, Sharpton, Hillary, Bill.

It's almost like Obama is hitting himself in the head with the racist charge, and then trying to turn around and blame the Republicans. I know the Democrats are deeply into their self inflicted victimhood, but this is just a little too bizarre.
FL Gov. Charlie Crist (R) “evoked President Kennedy's challenge to land on the moon and called for the same dedication and innovation” in tackling climate change.

isn't this waht Barack has been saying for the past few days. Boy the republicans are already copying Obama's idea. Maybe that is due to republicans having a lack of ideas other than they can keep us safe from terrrorism. Sure, when 911 happened in the republican watch and bin laden is still making video messages.
FL Gov. Charlie Crist (R) “evoked President Kennedy's challenge to land on the moon and called for the same dedication and innovation” in tackling climate change.

Obama already had this vision.
I'm a native Texan, and even I had to remind myself of who Chet Edwards was and what party he was in. Remember, most Texas Democrats would be republic party members anywhere else.

Obama/Biden '08; Biden/Warner '16
Hillary Clinton, you'll get even more momentous standing ovations when you…

Debunk the Muslim lie and go to mosques with Obama. That
would be UNITY!  Since you now know he isn't? That would be great UNITY and would restore your good name!
Gov Sebelius: “‘He’s not qualified, he’s somebody who should scare you. He’s too liberal.’”

These are all true. The same could be said about Hillary, John Kerry, etc. But what do any of these have to do with race?

Democrats are always talking about race, but at the end of the day, they appear to be the biggest racists out there.
Hey First Read,

Why aren't you (or Chuck) asking any questions or saying anything about Senator Mary Landrieu of Louisiana?  She is O'Bama's Knock Out Punch for VP.

Just look at the electoral map, she'll deliver 9 electoral votes!  No one becomes US President without carrying the South!

Don't kid yourself, she's gorgeous, and looks count!  Good looks earn votes better than presenting wonderful policies.

Senator Landrieu has just as many (if not more) years of legislative experience and Senator HRC and no one hates her!

It's been said she actually a Republican in Democratic clothing, making it very hard for the Republicans to attack her record.  She's a Centrist and that's awfully good these days.

She's 52, but looks like a 40yo soccer mom!  This will make McCain look like Methusala when their pictures appear in headlines.  A young Dem Ticket attracts younger voters who are coming out to vote this year!

Let's face it, Senator Landrieu is OBama's only real choice.  He must pick a "white" woman in order to prove he is the change agent he preaches to be...  Sebelius could be President some day.  Let's not waste her Presidency on a VP slot this year.

I hope you respond to this inquiry...

He needs one hellofa VP. obama needs help with all of the 57 states!
For a military man, Gen. Jim Jones is a great politician....on stage with both McCain and Obama.  Win,win situation for him.

Don't know a whole lot about his politics.....like his position on Iraq.  Does someone have a bio?
I disagree with Jindal about the supreme court decision.  Castration is appropriate, but the death penalty - not that it is too harsh; but would it prevent a rapist from becoming a murderer.  Yes, what happened is horrendous; but did the criminal know the death penalty was the result, and in so knowing, did it prevent him from killing her?  I don't pretend to have the answers, mostly I am against the death penalty.  This one is just too gruesome to be able to separate emotion from ideology.  As a mother, I want any adult who harms or rapes a child to pay steep penalties.  As a society of laws, does killing someone teach someone that raping or killing is wrong?  I am all over the castration angle.

This is why we need to keep these wedge issues out of this election.  There are thousands of view points and most of them are right on some level.  We need to focus on the things that unite us.

Sorry for the confusing babble, but I've had this one on my mind all day.  Random stream of consciousness.
Chris Matthews is the most boneheaded, stubborn, biased talking head on television.  Just when I was thinking of rejoining the democrats, I'm back to McCain.  He will not be happy until both Clintons are securely six foot under his hatred is so deep.  No graciousness from them will he fairly acknowledge.  He is despicable, and Michelle Bernard distorted Bill Clinton"s words
I'm still rooting for Wes Clark for VP.
Obama already had this vision.

And it looks to be about 20/400.
Many folks in Louisiana want Jindal impeached right now because our state legislature recently voted themselves a big, fat raise and despite receiving many protests from voters, he is refusing to veto the bill.
You know when the National Review comes out with a list of unacceptable VP choices, those are probably the people that McCain needs to pick from. The only person that should be totally unacceptable is Romney.
The best choice is Al Gore. OK, so they say he doesn't want the job. But wanting it is not the highest qualification. He has done the job, and well enough to win the presidency, too!
Obama/Gore for a real change in America.
Hagel for State, Edwards for Justice, Richardson for Energy, Clark for Defense, and Dean for Health & Human Services. Bill Clinton for UN Ambassador.
Any of these, except Clinton, would be OK as veep, as would Sebelius or Politano.
The only real problem Barack has is too many great choices -- and like my wifer once told me, "you can't have them all!"
Bobbi

We know you think you are really smart and clever and all that.

But why do you hate so much?  Is it because it gives you a kick and gets you attention?

You keep telling everyone what a well-educated person you are -- why don't you try sounding like one and say something intelligent?

You know - just for a change.

Obama '08
Anyone see the Andy Griffith show today!!

Obama/Fife 08!
Obama selecting Sen. Chuck Hagel,(R) for his VP would seal the deal for the presidency. Hagel, a true war hero would hand McCain his head on a platter and he could deliver a lot of Independents and Republicans to Obama in the general election.
obama should ask ron paul....if paul declines then al gore
Carrie V., Lawton, Texas,
Apparently you didn't catch the comments from Nader today, or the one's from the Clintons back during the primaries.
Republican National Committee Spokesman Chris Taylor said, "The Republican Party does not need a major effort to highlight Obama’s inexperience. His scant résumé speaks for itself."

Well then, tell all your parrots to STFU about it. They won't answer a single freakin' question about anything without trying to turn it into an "Obama lacks experience" dodge. Either Taylor's lying or the McCain campaign is out of control.
I guess Bayh is about as good as Obama could do, but he seems no match to McCain's likely pick, Alaska Gov Sarah Palin.

"All these predictions, and the only one that seems to be doing this is Obama himself. He's the one that keeps injecting race as an issue. " - Carrie Lawton,

I'm a political junkie and have watched plenty of Obama speeches and interviews, way more than the average person. Apparently, Ms. Lawton is watching a different campaign than I am.  I think it's remarkable that race hasn't dominated the discourse over issues Americans care about.

The reason that most people predict race will become a not so subtle undercurrent for the Republicans (that and fear of terrorists) is because of their track record of fear-mongering and scare tactics as a way to win elections.

At this point, they may not have many other options left to win with.
Caroline Kennedy for OBAMA'S VEEP!!!
What is this guy crist up to anyway? He is not staying on the bush message at all...there is not global warming...if there is humans are not to blame...if humans are to blame its us versus the boll weavil...and what about 'whitey' crists flip flopping on off shore drilling?
THIS is a MUST READ for any republican or democrat who really wants to make informed decisions not be swayed by last minute, election year characterizations - like "most liberal senator". Folks this is about our future and it is our duty to do our research lest we give ourselves the same future as the last 8 years.
