Down the ballot: GOPers are worried

The AP: “House Republicans lost three recent elections when customary campaign themes failed to sway voters and their candidates could not overcome the ‘negative perception of the national party,’ according to an internal review that underscores the potential for widespread losses this fall. GOP candidates on the ballot in November must show "deep empathy towards the voters" and rely on local rather than national issues, according to the report, ordered by party leaders after the loss of formerly safe seats in Illinois, Louisiana and Mississippi that stunned the rank and file.”

VIDEO: Sen. Gordon Smith, R-Ore., is running a re-election ad touting his work with Barack Obama. A Hardball panel discusses whether the GOP brand is so damaged that elected officials have to boast working with their party's opponent to win.

In what could have far-reaching implications practically on Senate and House races this year, the Supreme Court struck down the millionaire's amendment, a part of the McCain-Feingold campaign finance legislation, which allowed candidates who were running against self-funders to raise money at higher increments than the current standard of $2,300 an individual. Obama, in his '04 IL SEN race, was one of the first candidates to take major advantage of this amendment in his Dem primary. He faced a self-funder in Blair Hull, and that enabled Obama to raise money in $12,000 increments at one point during his campaign.

GOPers SHOULD be worried.  This fall - no matter who wins the presidency - the Republican party is going to take a massive hit in state and local elections.  Mark my words.  With top-down leadership from the Bush administration, disdain for the 'conservative' party is at an all time high.

Gopers!  That's funny.  They should be worried.
>> Arnold is wandering off the GOP reservation.
>> Now get back here and figure out how to fund our schools.

This is an easy one. Stop your state from paying for everything for illegal aliens. Billions saved.

You know, we all told you that little problem would catch up to you.
Maybe we can get some things done once we have a solid majority in Congress.
Many more Senators positions will be up for grabs come November.....Americans are tired of the fear tactics used in elections. Using European type comments to sway voters based race and bigotry. There's more than one race here in America and they are all watching....They may not much but, they're all watching....Hmmmmmmm
The republicans should be worried...the whole brand is corrupt and rotten to the core...once the party sold its soul to the tom delay/james dobson wing they were destined to end up with 30% or less of the population behind them...this nation has never rewarded rightwing stuff very long...we get a good dose of it and then run away for 40 or 50 years
Really shouldn't be that worried. Obama is selling himself out on every issue there is. His win at any cost strategy looks surprisingly like that of Bill Clinton's in '92. Even if Obama wins, it will be a short stay for him. All Obama-ites are just ignoring his latest antics of siding with the conservatives on the latest Supreme Court rulings. The Obama-ites really know what Barack stands for <wink, wink, nod, nod>, and that will come out if/when he's in office. 98% of America isn't where Obama is politically. A good dose of tax raises, surrender in the fight on terror, and ignoring of the engery problems will bring people back to the Republicans in 2012.
"If Hillary isn't the VP you can kiss a lot of Hispanic support goodbye, Sen. Obama.

And you would know this...how...?
Obama is a genius campaigner, the competition continues to underestimate him and it has left the door wide open for him to step in and shut it behind him.

The main McCain problem:

How many times can a 30+ year record be reinvented and still smell like S*&t?  We now have his “Grown Up” energy plan.  Loosely translated, "I married wealth and I don't need to conserve or be concerned with the little people's fuel problems"  He falsely believes that by sheer virtue of being around long enough, he doesn't have to explain himself, coherently (or otherwise).  At least McCain is showing his willingness to tap, tap, tap dance his way into the Dole history book.  For a Navy pilot, he doesn’t seem to be able to get any lift or thrust.

Crap rolls down hill.

I suspect the Dems will win a whole lot of seats in the senate and house and Obama will be prez.  The dems will have to do alot of work, pretty quick the show the nation they are trying to right the ship.  If they don't the repubs will bounce back in a big way in 2012.
TLA - Maybe we can get some things done once we have a solid majority in Congress.

You (a Democrat I'll assume) had a solid majority during the Kingdom of Clinton. Still couldn't get anything done. It would be the same this time. Democrats always need a villian they have to fight. If it's not the Republicans, then they turn on themseleves. This time around would be no different. Then the voters see that behavior, and then they rememeber why they can't vote the Democrats into the majority, then they go back to the GOP.

I used to support the Republicans, until the right wingers came along and foisted bush on us. Well, they got what they wanted: a sock puppet for a president, whom they could manipulate into making inane and foolish ideas part of national policy. Until the party is purged of the folks like pat robertson and james dobson, (who doesn't speak for me, EVER) I'll Vote for Change...and support Obama.
Walter...

and more than 98% isn't where Bush and McCain are either.  Americans want change and they like Obama's message.  You care to prove what programs most americans aren't in favor of that Obama is talking about getting rid of?

I guess this is where you say guns!!  He's wanting stricter laws for inner cities and gun dealers.  He isn't against those who use guns to hunt, or defend themselves.  Wants to implement background checks...

whats wrong with that... if you think everyone should be able to purchase a gun without checks... how do you feel about murderers who are released or known lunatics having "easy access" to those weapons?
dems will clean sweep in nov. and America and the world will be better for it.  the repubs need to be reborn into true Americans and show real respect and consideration to the concept of LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL
GOP candidates must show "deep empathy toward the voters". Hilarious!! The lobbyists and corporations won't stand for it!
GOPer's are worried...that's an understatement.  Most refuse to be identified as republicans in their ads.  Some are using their bipartisan creditials (working with Obama)as their message. The three special elections where long term republican seats were lost.  Early polls suggesting a large lead nationally and in key battleground states.  There will be NO GOP coattails in this election. A dream come true...a deomcratic president and congress.  Military, economic, diplomatic and social reforms are on the way.
McCain's biggest problem is that our economy is in a nose dive and he's come out and said... "the economy isn't my strong suit"... "that I don't know as much about it as he should."  Obama will continually blast him on that.

As for the war... most americans want our troops home... old, bag McRag says its not important when they come home...  That sound bite will be played time and time again.

The last thing...

for a guy that voted against every piece of "green" legislation, it's absolutely comical he's trying to be perceived as a "green" candidate!  The Dems will slap McCaveman back to Tombstone with his ANTI-GREEN voting record.
GOP is worried for the mere fact the the Democrats will worsen the blunder they created.

People, please elect Obama because his words will heal this nation...not!
Yep there's no where to run and hide for the repugnant ones this election cycle.  Real Americans are waking up to the fact that they've been lied to and cheated by the repugnant tyrants in the White House.

We all know to thank the repugnant ones for $140 a barrel oil and way expensive gas because of their ignorant policies.  It was the repugnant ones who blocked increasing mileage requirements for Detroit.  It was the repugnant ones who decided to give tax breaks to companies shipping good union manufacturing jobs to China and India so that their massive growth could jack up their demand for oil and gas.  It was the repugnant ones that passed increased depreciation tax breaks for SUV's which just helped waste so much gas.

Nope Americans know who to blame for our screwed up country and economy and the voters are going to show the repugnant ones that they won't be fooled again by their pandering lies.

Go Obama 08/12!
You (a Democrat I'll assume) had a solid majority during the Kingdom of Clinton. Still couldn't get anything done.

You need to learn your history.  The Republicans had control of Congress from 1994 mid term elections onward during Clinton's term.  The GOP also picked up twelve governor seats and 472 legislative seats in state elections.

and they should be worried. Obama has mastered the art of fundraising without influence from the so called "big-wigs express", and the smart thing about it, is that it is allowed and ethically sound, I think Obama argument about compaign financing goes to the heart of why he did opt out. It was broken and distorted with thousands of loop holes.
