McCain and the Grahams pray together

Posted: Sunday, June 29, 2008 2:44 PM by Mark Murray

From NBC/NJ's Matthew E. Berger
McCain

today met with evangelical leader Billy Graham and his son Franklin, discussing his experience during the Vietnam War and praying for “God’s will to be done in the upcoming election.”

“I was pleased to have the opportunity to meet with Billy Graham and his son Franklin,” McCain said after the meeting in Asheville, NC. “We had a very excellent conversation, I appreciated the opportunity to visit with him. Rev. Billy Graham recalled that during the Vietnam War when I was in prison, he visited my parents in Hawaii twice, and he and my father and mother prayed together for me, and I expressed my appreciation for that a long time ago.”

The 45-minute meeting was expected to be just with Franklin, who is president and CEO of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. But the frail elder Graham attended as well.

“My father and I were pleased to have an opportunity to meet and visit with Sen. John McCain today,” Franklin Graham said in a statement. “Sen. McCain’s office had requested a meeting in recent months, and we appreciate the effort he made to travel to my father’s home. The senator and I both have sons currently serving in the military, and also have a common interest in aviation. I was impressed by his personal faith and his moral clarity on important social issues facing America today.”

Speaking to reporters at Asheville Regional Airport, McCain said he asked for the meeting because the Grahams have known of him and his family for years.

“They’re great leaders of this nation,” he said. “I appreciate the opportunity to, to visit with them, and I am very grateful for the time they spent with me.”

Asked how Billy Graham looked, McCain said “fine, fine.”

McCain also met country music singer Ricky Scaggs, who had lunch with the Grahams and arrived early to meet the presidential candidate. They chatted and shook hands in the driveway as McCain was leaving.

The presumptive GOP presidential nominee also said he would be “surprised” if the United States was sending troops and personnel to Iran, as has been recently reported. McCain said he had no information about that.

McCain somehow turned a meeting with an Evangelical preacher into a reminder that he was a prisoner of war. Seems like everywhere he speaks there is a sentence that includes Viet NAM and POW. Wish that McCain had remembered the heroes serving our country today by voting for Sen. Webb's GI Bill. Better yet, a plan to end this war and bring them home would be the ultimate tribute.

McCain was surprised that we have special op's teams working in Iran. So much for his military credentials.

....................................................

If God's will be done in the coming election then Obama will be the next President.
Well, if you pray for gods will to be done, and Obama wins, will you support his presidency because it was gods will? Or will you claim that its not gods will unless its your will.
Franklin Graham said in a statement: "I was impressed by his personal faith and his moral clarity on important social issues facing America today.”

Moral clarity and John McCain = Oxymoron
Clueless on current events, as usual.  Just keep clinging to that religion . . . see if it helps.
Hope he was praying for the money to pay his taxes

Newsweek is set to publish a highly embarrassing report on Sen. John McCain, revealing that the McCains have failed to pay taxes on their beach-front condo in La Jolla, California, for the last four years and are currently in default
Upsetting talking about War on the Sabbath...

We talk of Jesus our Lord in our church and prays ...

Oh I'm finally starting to understand..
"War" is John McCain's Savior...!
I will not vote for war...The GOP has made the wrong choice to lead this nation...Change is coming..
Obama'08
Billy Graham's ambition, in the worldly sense of the word, is well documented. He has been known to betray his morals, in order to curry favor, and influence with the power in the Whitehouse. Nothing was more important to Billy, than being seen rubbing elbows with, and giving council to Presidents.

Graham's son Franklin was long known as wild, rebellious, and a 'bad boy' type. He was a worrisome embarrassment to his father. In fact, Billy resisted turning the reins of his ministry over to his son. He did not trust him.

Franklin, after many years, embraced Christianity. His first inclination toward that effort was to attack Islam. He noted it's phenominal growth throughout the world, and decided the trend deserved his personal bush-back; as a bizarre blip in what had been Christianity's sovereign right, in his mind, proliferation.

The McCain/Graham prayer service, as campaign theater, is a feeble attempt to manipulate our opinion of John as a pious man. Piety does not move one to dance around a stage singing, "bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran".

I would be impressed with the Grahams had they rebuked Senator McCain for having sent over 4000 Americans, to their deaths, without reading the intelligence report. Knowing McCain lusts for more innocent American, and Middle Eastern blood, the Grahams should have driven McCain from their presence, with a righteous scolding.

Good for you McCain.Obamas trying to get into the action would be better spent with all religions. Why the snub to Muslims? Like the time Obamas wife made blacks leave the stage  to make room for whites behind her . Oops she was over heard there too.Why does Obama distance himself from Jackson and Sharpton? He and Jackson were togeather way back when his wife addressed the push Rainbow Coalition. His wife sat next to Farrakhans wife.At least that was what the picture showed. I wasnt there. Just curoius why the selected religous thing. Obama going to have transparent presadency but has closed fundraisers(Ca. Bitter moment) Religous leader summit meeting. Pflager and Wright are gone from his religous workers. Wonder who is left and why locked? Hmmmm seems a lot we dont know here. Glad to see McCain with the Grahams.Nice Scags came early to meet him too. Glad Obama didnt take Wright,Meeks,Pflager with him. Wonder what this group was supposed to acomplish.Grahams are proud of there country and I remember they did a lot for the powswith prayers and rallys.God Bless America
I appreciate that McCain knows where to go for spiritual support and advice.
What Americans fale to remember  it is God who puts leaders in office.
Most Christians do not put their faith in their leaders but in God.
As Billy Graham and his family are considered the most important spirtual family in the US I noted that God's will was being prayed-not the will of a particular party for person.
Chrisitans know that whatever happens in this election that God will take care of us.
I trust McCain more, now, as I trust his spiritual advisor. Is is not interesting that the Graham's never come out and critisize they tell us just to go to God's word for any answer we may be struggling with.
As a conservative I was not sold on McCain as I wanted to hear more about his views on what was important to me.
The number one thing, as an evangelical  Christian is abortion. In addition, as I feel Americans really do care for one another, when we hear and see what partial birh abortion is all about, Americans do not stand for that. I will vote for McCain just on this issue as I have read what God's word says about life and when it starts.
God Bless
F McCain go Obama!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Woohoo!
(Again) How many times do I have to say it?? The women who are taking feminism giant leaps backwards with their incessant whining and victimization!  Heels?!  So WHAT?  She wore Heels!  She was a tireless campaigner!  He knows that!  He has class! And Hillary does too!  Sheesh!  The "Girls" who vote for McCain out of female spite are a shame to this country!  Go make cakes, sweeties!!!
didn't mccain call him the face of intolerance

guess what google is closing down anti-obama blogs

Sen. McCain requested this meeting. The Grahams were gracious enough not to turn him down. I think the Sen. did it because he wants to give the impression that the Graham family have endorsed him. I do not believe they would ever endorse him or anyone else.
It was political??? Really???  Why then did they have a photo of the meeting.  McCain is ridiculous -- if the meeting private, there should be no photo.  This is so Bush like.  Another bush thing.
McCain's team of strategists seem to have retrieved their arts of campaigning from a 50's time capsule.

Apparently the Grahams are willing to overlook mcsames affairs and dumping his first wife for the younger, prettier and richer cindy ...and since they have jumped into the political arena they should tell us how they spend the money they get too...one of the wealthiest families in NC...wonder how that happened from such humble beginnings...
Hear that McCain is going to campaign in Mexico next week, where will he go next ,China,or Korea?.
hmmm, conseratives supporting Mccain, bet press dosent like that, they say it isnt happening. and why does msnbc say Mccain is defensive about spending. sounded truthfull to me . Allhe said is earmarks are bad, if the projects are valid they should go thru regular request channels and be voted on. sounds very truthful, while not quiet popular. not like the press or Obame who will say what they think people want to hear whether possible or not.

Someone should check out Franklin Graham's creative accounting practices...

Worth a look.

Franklin, if your wife was raped and was pregnent by her attacker, how would you vote on abortion then? Would you keep the child as a reminder, or just throw it away. Remember what the LORD said; Judge not, lest you be judged. Quit trying to talk as if you were GOD & trying to control of the thoughts of christians. Let the real GOD move mens hearts and minds in this election. Amen.
It is going to come out this week that the McCains are not keeping up with their taxes.  What if we, as tax payers, do not pay our taxes, what happens to us?  Well, we either have our property sold at public auction or go to jail.  Amazing, isn't it, what rich dudes get away with.  Pray for all of us.
Where was his "moral clarity" when he left his first wife who had become disabled, for a wealthy heiress 20 years younger?
obama followere seem to think they can twist everything to their viewpoint, no where does either article say they discussed war, nam or otherwise. it said they discussed Graham praying with Mcains parents in Hawaii when Mccain was a prisoner. peaple need to learn to read what articles actually say not just headlines.
It's so true. Can McCain not go 1 day without talking about WAR? A president with war on the brain is not good. He should be focusing on the economy.
McCain is an atheist.  This was nothing more but a plan to win evangelicals.  He is phony!!!
All politics a side, the ability to sit down and talk with Billy Graham is a blessing... http://www.enewsreference.com
Senator McCain,
I like how you wove in your POW years and the history the Graham's have with your family.  Very nicely done.

Now, did that little issue of leaving your first wife for your current wife come up with respect to moral clarity?
Or, what about the issue of the beach-front condo in California, allegedly being in default over taxes?
Or,  how in 2000 you were for keeping Roe vs. Wade, but now you think it should be overturned?
Just curious.
Was there nothing else to talk about besides war?

How about repenting for the treatment of the ex-wife?

How about forgiveness for the napalm bombs dropped on thousands?

How about forgiveness for unecessarily risking the lives of thousands of Americans and Iraqis?

Geesh. Mike Huckabee must be chomping a bit somewhere.
The irony, since Billy Graham is Democrat!
Next McCain will visit Jesus and in August God himself - but he is not sure if Jesus and God are Republicans (although King George II assured him they were).
Talk about pandering!  This is just one reason why I cannot stomach John McCain anymore.  He has changed so much...I don't even recognize him at all.
This article that was written concerning the rumors flying around in flag city usa findlay, ohio about barack obama.  i went to the university of findlay back in the nineties and it is one of the most racist cities in the united states.  it is one of the most backwards unprogressive cities in america.  the people that live there are totally completely stupid, idiotic, moronic, racist, hateful, mean, wicked, evil and apart of the old KKK movement in the united states.  they are the same jim crow movement back in the early 20th century.  i wouldn't be surprise if everybody in findlay, ohio voted for john mccain they are that ignorant stupid foolish heathenistic uncivilized and barbaric.
Hopefully, McCain will pray for the people of Findlay, Ohio as in Decision '08.  They must not have tv or radio or newspapers or computers or telephones or schools or common sense. It is really sad that they believe all that propaganda about Obama.  Tell them to visit www.fightthesmears.com and join the 21st century!
If McCain has found god how do you explain this.

McCain is making all the right campaign moves. Join a protest against the DNC's strong arm tactics http://charlottefrontandcenter.com/post_card_project
McCain same as everybody has made past mistakes. But his political record and military service more than make up for his mistakes.
Obama is a Musilum, pro gay, lawyer for the crooked, pro abortion, no military service, wife not proud of America,Obama negative about American patriotic traditions. McCain having prayer with the Grahams can only help America, I hope Obama goes and prays with the Grahams for the Lord's will to be done in America.
My son is military and has served in Iraq and may be deployed again. I covet any and all prayers for our military's safety and God's will in America.
Mr. McCain  war service seems to be in question, after a hard night of drinking he goes out flies a plane and gets shotdown he's keep alive because his captures know who his father is. no position of leadership in war other than being an unfortunate pow folks dont be fooled again dont hide behind the flag its time for a civilan to be in office we need some objectivity to war
Sorry folks, it is too late for praying>>>
Perversion is well within human possibility, especially amongst those possessing absolute power. Men commandments are being displayed with their decaying mindsets with everyday occurance results, even through your thoughts. When will this distructive behavior's ever end, especially with those that are professing Religious order(GOP)"Gods only People's" that are preying upon others? Would Christ do what your supporting in Iraq, Vietnam under the guise of Patroitism? We're a sick land thats controlled. Taken over by foreign powers such as through Bush's subversive Predicating nature as yourselves and friends. Preditors insurgent natures thats nutured by principled, Principle thats whats put into the Bank at any cost by Tyrants as they want us to belive.
Wow, John McCain and Billy Graham. Two senile old fossils sitting around talking about their imaginary friend in the sky, while Franklin sits there seeing dollar signs. McCain is desperate to pander to the religious right, thinking and hoping that they would never, ever elect a half-negro with an exotic-sounding name. This reveals the true depth of his cynicism and desperation. If he wins the election it will not be by legitimate means, and it won't be because the religious right all lined up behind him, either.
