More on the Schmidt-Davis news

For now, it's tough to truly call the elevation of Steve Schmidt to day-to-day manager of the McCain campaign a full-fledged shakeup. Schmidt had shared responsibility for the message of the campaign with Charlie Black, Rick Davis, and Mark Salter for some time. But the shifts in responsibility could be a precursor to a real shakeup -- and that would be the addition of one-time McCain campaign strategist Mike Murphy, who helped oversee McCain's near upset of Bush in 2000.

According to sources, McCain and Murphy personally talk quite a bit, and it's no secret McCain would like Murphy officially involved. Davis and Black are reportedly not enthusiastic about the addition of Murphy because then their roles would truly be diminished. Murphy hired Schmidt for his posts in Schwarzenegger world, so there's likely much less resistance with Schmidt in reaching out to Murphy than with Davis and Black.

It looks like today's announcement was designed to do two things: 1) calm the GOP chattering class who are getting nervous about the trajectory of the McCain campaign, and 2) potentially grease the wheels for the return of Murphy to the fold.

There isn't much time to do any more shaking up so expect any more movements to come in the next few weeks or not at all.

Moreover, the elevation of Schmidt to coordinator of daily operations is an important push for the McCain campaign from primary mode to the general election. While Schmidt has been a McCain adviser for a while, he brings to the top of the staff a hand with general election experience, something sorely lacking in McCain world.

There has been talk in the last few weeks that McCain was having trouble transitioning to a general election candidacy, and that it had not fully utilized the four-month head start it had over Obama. And the campaign has not been viewed as polished, which is why we are likely seeing the focus on staffers experienced in advance and stagecraft.

He can't even organize his own election campaign.  What does that say about his ability to be POTUS.  I guess it says it all.
So, McCain needs to bring in one of the top Bush-Cheney '04 campaign heads?

He really is running for Bush's 3rd term.
General Wesley Clark is somewhere smiling, and shaking his vindicated, silvery head!

McClain Campaign is not polished.  I really do think he was placed in this position to keep things according the master plan of Bush!

We will see in the months to come.  McClain is electable.  He has a strong chance to win this election.  Alot of things are going in his favor!

However,  Obama is the man of the future.  I am putting and trusting my vote with Barack Obama!  The man of the future!!!

The David Palmer of our time!!!

What would you call it then? How about a change of command? Or maybe a desperate cry for help?

lol

There should be another shake up.  They should dump McCain!
I'm telling you, this is a campaign in permanent earthquake mode, and that certainly bodes well for Obama.
Old man changes clouds!
So is Steve Schmidt going to make McFossil a better candidate? I don't think Mr. Schmidt can change the fact that they've got a 72 year old flawed, inept, flip-flopping candidate that can't remember from day to day what he said to whom. The GOP is still trying to feed us the same old brand of dog food they've been selling since 1950. Only this year it doesn't seem to be in demand. NOT THIS TIME! Obama '08
This sounds very similar to the Hillary Clinton campaign! Boil, Boil, toil and trouble!
This sentence from the Carpetbagger Report was too funny not to share:

"McCain blasted Barack Obama yesterday for not having voted to confirm Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito. When McCain learned that Joe Lieberman had also voted against Alito’s confirmation, McCain decided it was time to change the subject. Imagine that."

Oh what a tangled web we weave . . .
Pandemonium for the GOP, as we predicted, is promising, and a perfectly proper punishment!
Do you think it will really matter?  McCain has run a really really poor campaign especially in comparison to Obama.  All the wheels are off the old Straight Talk Express.
By the time the McCain campaign gets on track, the conventions will be in full swing and the country will have moved on without him. He already had a 4-month head start that he squandered and he just doesn't seem like the kind of guy who is quick on his feet. The Democratic campaign will whiz past him in a blur and all he'll be able to say come November 5th is "How badly did we lose"
McCain wants to change the crew on a sinking ship.  He needed to unload President Bush and all of those rotten policies but it's too late now.
"we are likely seeing the focus on staffers experienced in advance and stagecraft"
*******************************************************That is interesting, so now we can look forward to others doing the molding and shaping and marketing of their candidate that the Republicans excel in.  I guess there isn't much point in just letting us see the reality of what we would get.  Once more they cater to the 'low information' voters.
Isn't that what brought us BUSH?
They can shake it all they want.  Themessage is the same...4 more yes of the same old stuff.  Go home McShame and stay there.
As my father once told me.....
You can't polish a turd!

gObama!
one of mccain's elite advisors should tell mccain to set in a rocking chair on his porch in his golden years instead of trying to continue the failed republican policies that have brought a once great nation to its knees
Get 2000 correct.  Bush upset McCain, not McCain almost upsetting Bush.  McCain was the establishment candidate and the only way Bush won was through Rovian tactics which used smear tactics against McCain.  A good campaign would have been able to handle them.  McCain's didn't.
Objectively speaking, it will be the million dollar question how McCain finds a way to fire up conservatives while still appealing to independents.
I don't get it.  If Iraq is improving as McCain claims, why can't our troops return within 16 months from January 2009?

Is US ready to spend $12 billion/month in Iraq forever?
As usual S.N.A.F.U...the left hand does not talk to the right hand...the GOP tells everyone what great managers they are...This speaks volumes of the real leadership within this campaign and bodes not to well for the future....

For real leadership, real command, real knowledge...
real judgmental fortitude and decision making power this country requires...

Obama/Biden'08
Where's Jerry from Corpis Christi, TX?
As My Grandfather once said,.."don't push a rope."

These guys have enough rope they'll only figure out how to hang themselves..hopefully...
McCain needs a shake up on his campaign. first he says Obama is a flip flopper and changes his mind. On the other hand, he wants Obama to change his mind in withdrawing troops in Iraq. Which one is it McCain? I am confused. maybe McCain's message of straight talk express should change to double talk express.

...more like re-arranging the deck chairs on the "Titanic".
Obama made a few changes when he went to GE mode.I think thats what McCain is doing. Smart move. I am voteing McCain if Hillary doesnt get the nod at convention. He loves this country and has spent a lifetime defending it and will keep us safe I believe. Obama has his own interest first thats scary. He turned his back on blacks, the whole left  and doesnt need them in his way he thinks. Now we have a black national anthem what is that?Part of the change America. It didnt work with the spanish version wont work with this. This isnt even close to ours but a whole new rendition.Sad.I dont understand the anger at America that gives all the protesters the right to do just that,to get ahead and to gain more than anywhere else . Still we hear the cry come with me we will change it our time has come.Is everyone so bad off?Other countries are so much worse off yet you condem us.Well at least give our country the honor of our own National Anthem.I hope I can do what ever is necessary to see the changes that will come are the right ones.God Bless America,Obama religous leader is a laugh too. Who will he pick for this great post of his.Wright??Prob or Farrakhan who supports him too.Man McCain doesnt look so bad.
Mccain having trouble transitioning to general election candidacy...he would never transition to being POTUS, because above all, he is not qualified. He has no plan, and no message (other than "POW/hero" which is not a qualifier). Although he evidently has a lousy campaign staff, the problem is he is a lousy candidate, and would be a disaster as POTUS.
Some one sleeps with the

Why would Duel Personality evolve? There is no advancement in this presumptive nominee who hasn’t any talking points besides fear, lies, flip-flops, and innuendos.  Barack is running circles around an old cudgeller who must get his rest.
BTW: how can Duel Personality McCain insist Clark’s removal; while he the most questionable, associations?  Maybe there’s something about his war record he doesn’t want the country to see. What a fraud!
Go Obama

What happen bomber,,,,you had a four month head start on Obama.More then enough time to get your message out.But you chose to fundraise for the whole time.Yucking it up at you 100 hand picked town hall attendees. Now your campaign is seeing the polls and how bad things are that you have to shake things up.Maybe grab a news line while you pander to Charlie Blacks friends in Colombia.I guess the gloom and doom scare the hell out of um tatic isn't working so well this time.I for one have seen you party at work for the last eight years, all the lies mcbush has told, all the destractions, all the cherry picked intel, and your oil war, using our troops as your security
force.
