Right goes after Obama on abortion

Posted: Monday, July 07, 2008 10:24 AM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC's Domenico Montanaro
CBN's Brody reports on an effort by The Christian Defense Coalition, hitting Obama on abortion. It labels Obama "the abortion President" and uses and image that is sure to offend -- it's a depiction of a black "Uncle Sam," saying, "I want you to pay for abortions."

"Senator Obama talks about bringing hope, faith and change to American politics. We now see this is all just political 'doublespeak,'" the group's director, the Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney, per Brody. "One of his top priorities as President would be protecting abortion rights and even expanding them. If elected, Senator Obama would become 'The Abortion President,' with the most extremist policies on abortion of any President in history."

He continues, "The Christian Defense Coalition will be working diligently over the next 5 months before the November elections to educate people of faith, especially Catholics, that Barack Obama wants them to pay for abortions. This is not a candidate who is concerned about social justice, hope and equality. Rather, this is candidate who will continue the violence and pain of abortion and refuse to end this tragic war against America's women and children."

Brody: "Some of these pro-life groups look at the polling and find that many Americans either think Obama is either pro-life or they’re not sure. This campaign is an attempt to set the record straight. Don't think for a minute this is one 'fringe" group. This effort represents the broader feelings with many conservative Evangelical groups.

"This is Obama’s challenge with Evangelicals. He can talk about the social justice issues all he wants and yes, it resonates to a certain extent but unless he moves on abortion (not likely) he’ll have a problem.  If he shows some support for parental notification laws or the annual fetal pain bill that moves through Congress then that will help insulate him to a degree on the extremist abortion tag."

The group will hold a news conference on Capitol Hill tomorrow.

*** UPDATE *** The Obama campaign responds: “Barack Obama understands that the best way to reduce the need for abortions is to reduce the number of unintended pregnancies," Obama spokesman Hari Sevugan said. "He is committed to commonsense solutions to achieve that objective and to changing the tone of the discourse which for too long has devolved into false and negative attacks such as this that do nothing to accomplish that goal."

Leaving aside the obviously offensive cartoon, I would like to point out that as a practicing Christian (not just all talk), I firmly believe that waging unjust war is un-Christian. So is allowing poverty. So is racism, classism, etc. etc.

I find it amazing that so many of my fellow Christians allow the Republicans to turn us into one-issue voters when being Christian is so much more than voting against abortion. If it were, the Bible would be a lot shorter.
Wonderful !!!

Let's discuss abortion and a woman's right to choose

John McCain is anti-Choice
Obama is pro-Choice

It just takes one more Supreme Court appointment to tip the Surpeme Court to overturn Roe vs Wade

A McCain Administration would END WOMEN'S CHOICE !!
McCain needs your babies for his '100 years war'

John McCain, Endless War
Helen of 10:42 fame, you have a lot of passion about you.
Can you give me a couple of scriptures in the bible where it specifically talks about abortion?  Preferably in the new testament, but the old testament is fine if you struggle with the issue during and after the time period that Jesus was born (you know, the part of the bible that we reborn Chirstians prefer to cite).

In the interim, I prefer that unplanned pregnancies be a thing of the past.  And that would be a lot easier if people like Senator McCain:
1) wouldn't vote against the Ledbetter Act where the act was going to overrule the Supreme Court's restrictions on women's rights to sue for paycheck dsicrimination.
So, you know, they could take care of their baby as well as themselves.

2) wouldn't vote against Senator Clintons 2005 budget amendment where $100 million would've been allotted to help reduce teen pregancny by way of education and birth control. So, instead of getting pregnant, like teh firls in Cloucester, Mass., maybe some of them would NOT have gotten pregnant.

3) wouldn't vote against Title X, which funds birth control and other gynecological care for the poor women and teens.

I don't particularly care for abortion, but I can't tell a woman that she can or cannot terminate a pregnancy, and certainly not at the time where the fetus is not self-sustaining.

So, I look forward to your repost with those verses.
Being a Catholic and child who was adopted, I have always believed that there are situations going on with the woman who opts out for abortion. This should be her and her family's decision to make, not the government's. Obama has also said that "Adoption is an Option" and believes that abortion should be a last resort. Most times when a woman chooses to have an abortion, it has been a weighty decision, but she should have that option.
BY the way to all my far right friends,
do you want Goverment in your life or not? Make your mind up.
That' why those Rpublicans who are disenchanted with McCain will either vote for Obama or Marr.
