Cindy McCain rides in Indy pace car

Posted: Sunday, July 13, 2008 9:50 AM by Mark Murray

From NBC/NJ's Matthew E. Berger
LEBANAON, TN -- Cindy McCain came to the Firestone 200 Indy race Saturday to represent her husband, but don’t expect the campaign to win racing fans over by sponsoring a car.

“Our money’s a little tight,” Mrs. McCain told NBC affiliate WSMV Saturday, a day after the Obama campaign refuted reports they were planning to sponsor a car in the NASCAR Sprint Cup series. “And as much as I’d love to put our name on a race car, love to do it, we really need to watch where we spend our money.”

McCain, clad in a denim top and with her hair down, rode several laps in the pace car on a wet track, and spoke to drivers at the Nashville Superspeedway before the rain-shortened race. She toured the pit area, greeted members of the armed services, and posed with the guitar that doubles as a trophy for the winner.

But she had little to say about the prospect of one of the cars being emblazoned with her husband’s opponent’s logo. “How he spends is money is how he spends his money,” McCain said of Obama. “Whatever he decides to do is what the Obama campaign does. I think, in my opinion, racing is open to all, everybody, and I hope he enjoys the race if he does it.”

She described herself as a racing fan, saying she and son Jack picked up drift car racing while living in Japan. “We built a drift car together, so we race together,” she told NBC News. “It’s a lot of fun. When you’re a bad driver like me, it’s easy to skid.”

Mrs. McCain is chairwoman of Hensley & Co., a beer distribution company she inherited when her father died. The company is the largest distributor of Anheuser-Busch products in Arizona, but McCain said she did not believe the beer company’s potential sale to InBev would effect her business.

“At this point, I don’t think it’s going to have much of an impact on our business locally in Arizona,” she said. “But we’ll wait and see. I don’t know. We’re all kinda standing back and waiting to see. But we’re a good product so we’ll continue to sell.”

She is heading to Rwanda this week, traveling with former Tennessee Sen. Bill Frist and other lawmakers. She will be traveling with the One Campaign, which works on health care in impoverished countries.

But yesterday, her eyes were on the race, which she viewed from the owner’s box. “I am a race fan,” she said. “I know what I’m talking about.”

HER money is a little tight?

Gosh, that is over the top even for Cindy, "I am richer than God", McCain!

How ARE those credit card bills Cindy?

Mrs. McCain's charitable work is very commendable.

Bravo! Thank you Cindy.

In comparing our two potential First Ladies, Mrs Obama has an easier time with framing her comments when expressing herself. Her legal education will serve us well, should she enter the Whitehouse January 20, 2009.
This from a women who spends half a million on average every month!!! Me thinks her botox has frozen her brain. THE PARADE OF STUPID MARCHES ON.
Did she go to high school. She sounds like she has no brain.
WOW that's a twist...Health care for poor Rwandan's...more nation building...I wonder sometimes if we're trying to carry a message of hope to other people or dependency. The String Makers can't option their own lives so it's time to muckup others.....is there any beer distributors in Rwanda?...off shore oil or quick land deals or guns for sell or places to stash money ...This mess stinks of Charlie Black...
How dumb..."racing fan" sounds like a lot a wind..what's that code for I'm pandering for your vote?  Looks like Huckabee just got dumped..
Maybe Cindy should be scoping out Phil Gramm's new Ambassador residence....zoom zooom
Being a Huge Nascar Fan (#24),trying to tap into this voter base is a Win-Win.Sitting in the owner's Box is Not how you win over nascar fan's. There's  a gr888 feeling sitting amongst other's at the races.

Barack Obama for POTUS!!!!!
Her monetary concerns do not apply to her own spending habits, who's paying for her trip to Rwanda by the way?

We have many citizens in this country who need good medical care, why does she need to go overseas and try to spread a little cheer. Or is she looking for business opportunities?  Of course the press will give her a good writeup and once again the McCain campaign has another pass from the media.

I am so tired of Republicans and their greedy selfish ways.   You are supposed to be your brother's keeper.
Her Money is a little tight!!!!  Didn't she just spend 750,000 in a month!

It's scary how easily Lies seem to come out of this family!
so all of a sudden she's a conservative spender? she buys houses and her husband gambles at casinos for 1000 to 5000 bucks at a time, it's been reported by Time magazine. and he does it just for the thrill. she bought a beach house even when john mccain didn't like the idea of going to the beach, but according to Politico.com, when her sons started using it, she thought it a good idea to buy a SECOND house at the SAME beach. i don't think she's ever worn anything priced under 3000 bucks. She's all italian couture. In fact, according to that same Politico.com article, she says that if she ascended to the white house, she'd probably go for an american couturier. if. i don't get how someone can be so disingenuous and still be given a pass by the MSM.
The Obamatrons are so vicious.....Attack, attack, attack is all they know how to do.  This will not take the eyes off the inept Obama.

Vote McCain, if you love America. Obama is too risky
Speaking of car races, I'm sitting here LMAO (as usual) watching Its A Mad Mad Mad Mad World.

You get one share for being a person, one share for being a person in a car, one share for ........

There's enough for you and you and you .......

What do you mean we don't have to pay taxes? Everybody has to pay taxes. Even businessmen who rob cheat and steal from people every day - even they have to pay taxes.

The cops in this town are morons.

Holy mackeral, I almost didn't make it.

Who's he? I don't know, I thought he was with you. No he's not with me. I thought he was with you.

Momma, this thing is like a convention.

Don't you talk to my momma in that tone of voice, do you hear?

Did you all hear what momma said?

I mean this guy was real ugly.

What happend to you - you had the plane.

It's the big W I tell you - it's the big W!

We don't tell them anything - we tell them to hit the road or we'll beat their brains in.

Wisconsin Voter, Somewhere,WI

WV - Do you have any idea how much it takes to sponser a race car? $750K doesn't even get your foot  in the door.

=======================

Others express themselves better then Cindy because Cindy has several medical issues that prevent her from communicating properly at times.

You should be careful of what you say and gather the facts before you say them.

No offense to Mrs. McCain but this is just another photo op.

The women who racked up $750,000 in credit card charges in just one month, is worth more than 100 million dollars and uses her private jet to fly the McCain campaign around should put her money where her mouth is.  How about some donations to the agencies trying to bring releif to the poorest people on earth in Africa and Southeast Asia.

No....perhaps building a NASCAR with her husbands name on it takes priority.

Oh yeah, Michelle said she might buy some expensive earings...about $600 at the most.  Let's see a $600 or a $750,000 treat.  Whose the hipocrite and elitist?

LOL.....

Considering that she is a woman who has never been proud to be an American until her husband ran for president, one would have to wonder what her brains will bring to the White House.

I hope, in the words, of Jessie Jackson, she doesn't use the White House to talk down to the people....
....Cindy....one more thing.

As a race fan, I wouldn't lay odds on the outcome of the Prsidential race tis fall.  All your family money can't buy this election for this flip-flopping, dottering old fool.
I like Cindy McCain her grace and charm are always with her whenever I see her on television or elsewhere.  I like Teddy Roosevelt.  Really we were pulled out of the depression because Franklin Roosevelt gave American jobs.  They did not pay very much; but America was built on hard working people.  The news media and Mr. Riley have never mentioned the soup lines verses the JObs Program set up by Franklin Roosevelt.  Mr. Obama will set us up in food lines again.  That is not America.  Will the real American stand up be proud.  We want to work. An honest days pay - for an honest days work.  I don't want anything from anybody.  I'm out of work right now; my former principal hired the secretary's daughter for my teaching position.  I'm a single parent with a 14 year-old.  I'm hurting, but I'm not going to sit down and whin about it.  I go out everyday looking for another position.  Remember people out there if you don't earn it yourself then you are owned by those people that gave you the free money.  Take Care Everyone - Good Luck America,
Becky
Here in Az her fathers company is the ONLY distributer of Budweiser. I was under the immpression it was THE distributer west of the rockies (old family deal going way back) I can only say that here in Az no bud will be delivered by any other source. And many of us dislike this rich snob so no wonder she has "laid low" all these years. ur local underground paper "the New Times" has ripped open her ugly past for all to see! Enjoy!
For true, Mrs. McCain is a real person with real feelings. Her father worked very hard, as did mine, to allow her to have a great life, as I do. I am not sure about Cindy but my father told me to spend it and enjoy, yet he requested of his children to only spend it in America, on American items from American' stores "for the America Dream to stay true". Thanks Dad ! JFYI
Goobers, she can't spend her own money to sponsor a McCain race car. That would be illegal. It has to be from the campaign. McCain got in a big bruhaha just for flying in her jet for the primaries. And as far as pandering goes, she's been into racing for a long time and learned to drive a race car several years ago. And, she used her own money to set up her charities, that's the definition of "philanthropist". Look it up. She's not running around on somebody else's dime.
If you want to talk about selfish, how about the Obama's. When they earned a quarter of a million dollars they gave a lousy thousand bucks to charity. My husband and I make 50K a year, and we give more than that. John McCain gave about half of his earnings to charities. And nobody is criticising Bill Gates for all the money he's spending in Africa. This isn't something she started yesterday.
I understand if people have different political philsophies, but most of you just spew out personal attacks without looking into the facts. Cindy McCain could have walked right into her daddy's multimillion dollar business, but instead chose to major in special education and spent several years teaching mentally retarded kids in a public school. Grow up and get real. Your guy and his babe are not saints and Senator McCain and his wife are not satans. Grow up.
Gee was that a MCWhine I just read Cindy money tight?
Really sorry I guess you should cut back on the siminizing the old hair.
How about not paying for Your NASCAR Gas Pandering race car Look we are just like you ploy. nobody but a complete idiot is even on your dumbass Elitist side. Go away just go!!

OBAMA 08
Drug addicts are usually poor drivers who skid a lot.
“Our money’s a little tight,” ...“And as much as I’d love to put our name on a race car, love to do it, we really need to watch where we spend our money.”

Is she F***king kidding?!

This coming from a women that charged over $750 THOUSAND dollars on her AMEX card in the month of May!!!

What a joke!
It's her money and she can spend it as she wants. If she had put her own money into advertising for her husband the liberals would be over it saying it exceeded campaign financing rules or that she was trying to buy the election.
Why hasn't the press given any attention to the International Red Cross report on torture of U.S. held detainees. Why are we posting comments about Cindy McCain and NASCAR when this countries leaders are in violation of International Law and could be subject to a war crimes trial by the World Court?

It is now official, we have become a nation that not only condones the torture of detainees to extract confessions, we practice it. Coerced confessions, obtained by torturing detainees, will be used in U.S. military tribunals to be held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba (GITMO).

Did you know that Red Cross investigators concluded last year in a secret report that the Central Intelligence Agency’s interrogation methods for high-level Qaeda prisoners constituted torture and could make the Bush administration officials who approved them guilty of war crimes?

The International Committee of the Red Cross declared in the report, given to the C.I.A. last year, that the methods used on Abu Zubaydah, the first major Qaeda figure the United States captured, were “categorically” torture, which is illegal under both American and international law.

We know that similar techniques including water boarding and electric shock were used on other GITMO detainees. We know men were held at GITMO without the right of habeas corpus, some for over 5 years. Since the Supreme Court ruling declaring that these detainees have the right to know why they are being held, at least 5 detainees have been released, no trial. Held captive for 5 years without explanation and released without explanation. These men were, in effect, held hostage.

We are outraged when extremists groups like FARC hold people hostage for years but are not outraged when our government practices the identical policy.

During the Viet Nam and the First Persian Gulf War, when our men were being systematically tortured to obtain war crime confessions we called these nations uncivilized, brutal and demanded that the world treat their activities as violations of international law regarding the treatment of prisoners of war. Under current U.S. policy, those coerced confessions made by U.S. POW’s would be legal. John McCain would be a war criminal, having confessed to bombing civilian targets.

It has been established that the type of torture to be allowed was discussed and approved by the White House. It has been claimed that both the President and Vice-President signed off on the torture. Imagine Presidential discussions on the torture methods to be employed. We also know the members of the FBI requested that they be removed form the interrogation process as they did not want to be involved in an unlawful act. The CIA had no such reservations.

In order to circumvent the laws of the U.S., we have allowed prisoners to be sent to other, less civilized, countries for “questioning”. The methods of torture we employed were not severe enough. We needed more painful, violent methods used to extract information and confessions. Please tell me again how any of this is legal?

President Bush has established an imperial Presidency. He feels he is above the law. To our shame, this Congress has either granted him immunity for his criminal acts or just simply chosen to ignore them. At a minimum these allegations should be investigated and if a prima fascia case can be made, we should prosecute these individuals to the fullest extent of the law. The President is a citizen and his elected position does not place him above the Rule of Law, a lesson we learned from the administration of Richard Nixon.

We, collectively, have allowed lies and fear-mongering to cloud our judgment. The rule of law need not always be our guide, only when it’s convenient. We have seen this before in the 1930’s and 40’s. Bypass some laws for the good of the state. Take away individual rights for the good of the state. Imprison people for the good of the state. Murder people for the good of the state. Abrogate our rights and liberties for the good of the state.

Bring the criminals who authorized these atrocities to trial for the good of the state.

Several caveats. Her money is tight? She learned to like drift car racing in "Japan". She loves to race even though she's says she is a bad driver. She watched the race from the owner's box. This is far more "interesting" than Michelle Obama's earings comment that the media attemped to push.
"Our money’s a little tight,” Mrs. McCain told NBC affiliate WSMV Saturday,

YUP, she's sure 'nuff feeing our pain...Cindy reminds of of my old babri doll...same frozen expression.
I think it's great Cindy's going to Rwanda to see what can be done to assist them, but she could look in her back yard in America to find great ways to spend her inheritance...

We have 45 million people without health care, and she's concerned about Rwanda?

Pleazzzzzze......
The most painful clip from the Sunday morning shows: top McCain VP prospect Mark Sanford "drawing a blank" (in his own words) on live TV when asked to name a major economic policy that President Bush and John McCain disagree on.

Sanford finally came up with an answer -- McCain has opposed earmarks while President Bush hasn't -- but Blitzer twisted the knife a bit further, following up on Sanford's initial mention of NAFTA. "He's a huge supporter of free trade, John McCain, the Bush administration supports free trade. I don't see a big difference."

The transcript:

BLITZER: Are there any significant economic differences between what the Bush administration has put forward over these many years as opposed to now what John McCain supports?

SANFORD: Um, yeah. For instance, take, you know, take, for instance, the issue of -- I'm drawing a blank, and I hate it when I do that, particularly on television. Take, for instance the contrast on NAFTA. I mean, I think that the bigger issue is credibility in where one is coming from, are they consistent where they come from.

Even the man who would be McCain's V.P. cannot find any significant difference bewtween Bush/McCain on the economy.

Couple that with what Carly Fiorina said on MTP about Phil Gramm's comments " I think most Americans are not really focused on what a bunch of surrogates are saying. They're focused on what the candidates are saying."

Funny, when an Obama surrogate says something controversial, the McCain camp is all over it.  It's critical to his judgement.  When it's a McCain surrogate, no big deal.  We should focus on what the candidate says. This is no ordinary surrogate, this is his National Co-Chair and chief economic advisor.  It was speculated that if McCain won, Gramm would be Secretary of the Treasury.

No double standard there!

MY money is a little tight, living on my retirement with the price of everything going up almost daily. Mrs. McCain has NO IDEA what it means to deal with rising prices. At least, if we are going to look at potential first ladies, Mrs. Obama knows what its like to grow up in a neighborhood that is decidedly NOT upper class and had to budget her money to pay off student loans. I think the country needs a stable family in the White House that knows as recently as a few years ago, what REAL people are going through. It tickles me that right-wingers STILL try to paint the Obama's as elitists while their nominee truly has lived an elite life-style. And continues to feel like we, the people, are delusional when it comes to our financial pain. The Obama's "GET IT" !!!
...and hey, what was with all the cleavage Cindy was sporting this past week? Does she think all those NASCAR boys want to see Daisy Duke in the White House?
Hopefully, she won't be stealing painkillers from this charity like she did from her AVMT in the 90s.
In comparing our two potential First Ladies, Mrs Obama has an easier time with framing her comments when expressing herself
-----------------------------------------------
Yes, it's very easy for her to express why she's never been proud of her country before.  We certainly understood that loudly and clearly.  And for Donna who made the comment about pandering, what was it when Obama considering sponsoring a car in a race?  That was almost as ridiculous as his bowling.
Who cares! Did they specially make a Barbie car for her too?
wow, i really thinks this degrades her.

Learn why the mccain camp is attacking obama for wanting kids to speak more then one language

After hearing about her monthly spending habits, I think the only thing tight about Cindy McCain is the skin on her face.

http://www.StopThinkVote.com
I presume that Cindy is talking about the amount of campaign money they have, not the amount of money she personally has.  However, it is still surprising that just yesterday the McCain camp was bragging about how much money they had along with the RNC.  Yet today, Cindy is claiming that they need to watch every cent -- make up your mind folks.  I swear, McCain did not get where he is today because of his intellect.  I think he is kind of slow actually.
I agree that Cindy should look at home for charity work before she looks overseas.  The McCains don't realise it, but there are really so many Americans suffering as much if not more than some of the people she serves overseas.  But, as someone above said, overseas travel is just so much more exotic.
