Lieberman attacks Obama's principles

From NBC/NJ's Matthew E. Berger

Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) spoke for McCain Tuesday before the Center for U.S. Global Engagement and said Obama’s foreign policy plan  “troubles” and “confuses” him.

Lieberman said he was unsure whether Obama supports a firm deadline for withdrawing troops from Iraq, a more flexible goal.

“I wish Sen. Obama would just say the surge has worked,” Lieberman said, “rather than changing his positions on how and when we should exit Iraq without acknowledging that these changes are understandably based on the facts on the ground.”

As Obama stressed shifting resources towards the conflict in Afghanistan, Lieberman stressed the two front’s interdependence, saying what happens in Iraq effects not just Afghanistan but other American interests around the world.

“What Sen. Obama does not seem to understand is that, had we taken the course he had counseled and retreated from Iraq, the United States would have suffered a catastrophic defeat that would have left America and our allies less safe not just in Baghdad, but in Kandahar and Karachi and Tokyo and London,” he said.

Lieberman also accused Obama of not taking principled stands, suggesting he “said he would be open to changing his plan for Iraq after going there and talking to General Petraeus -- only to change that position a few hours later after being heatedly criticized by organizations like Moveon.org?”

OH HELL NO!
So Leiberman is 'troubled' and 'confused' -- well, hey! there is news - he can't tell if he is a Republican or a Democrat. Maybe he'll be the first guy to be offered VP on both sides of the aisle -
I'm not so concerned about Obama principles. I just want to see him accomplish something, anything,  before if by chance he ever becomes president.
SENATOR REID - FIRE THIS TRAITOR!!!
Joe, Joe, Joe, Barack Obama is well grounded in the separatist teachings of the churches in south Chicago. If the man had a moral compass, you'd think he would have used it by now.
Great, now Liberman's "confused". too! Who the heck can we get to whisper in HIS ear, so he can continue to whisper in McFossil's ear? All these guys need to be put out to pasture. They're getting scary.
Joe,

the surge hasn't worked!! Why don't you fess up and tell americans about their hard earned tax dollars ending up in Al-Sadr's (and the likes) pockets?  The surge was implemented to get the Iraqi government up and running... and it hasn't!  They still have too many issues between the different sects.  The sunni's and Shi-ites are still banging heads... not to mention the issues with the Kurds.

DC politics at it's best!  Lie-berman won't mention the US funding because he's a Arab war-monger.  Once we quit paying Al-Sadr and Sistani... all hell will break loose again, regardless of the number of troops on the ground.
Why is Grampy letting his care provider speak for him?  It isn't a very awe-inspiring way to capture the youth vote.  I don't understand Leiberman's beef.  Didn't Obama campaign for him in '06?
"Oh please, Obama, say we are right so we dont look like the complete idiots we are.  Don't let those scary arabs hurt poor defenseless Isreal.  Be a good boy and be one of us!"

Maybe we are a county of whiners if this is the kind of person that gets elected.  Slander and personal attacked havent worked...so lets try begging.

Got news for you, Joey....Iraq wants us out.
Who are these guys? At least ole Joe admits he's "troubled and confused". THE PARADE OF STUPID MARCHES ON.
This is pretty interesting. A good military commander fights the next war, not the last one--and McCain is clipping the Bush playbook and fighting the last campaign. What's clear is that Obama is fighting the next campaign and the past tactics aren't really working out so well. It's a commentary on McCain's ability to be the next commander in chief vs Obama's ability to be the next commander in chief. (hint: McCain is not growing into his next job while Obama is already there...)
Anyone here read Othello?  This is like Iago attacking Cassio.
i wish Lieberman would change his affiliation to Republican. It fits him the way he speaks untruths. Obama has already done what Lieberman "wishes" he would do. Maybe Lieberman can't get on the internet either.
Trying to find a veep spot again. Last time it didn't work on the Democratic side, This time giving a try on the Republican side. This is super flip flop..
This just in from the McCain campaign, thanks to feedback from our fellow citizens:   John McCain to add stops in Alsace Lorraine and Constantinople to his previously announced tour of Czechoslovakia, Rhodesia, and the Ottaman Empire.   In related news today, McCain surrogate Joe Lieberman attacked Obama for not having not visited Canaan, the land flowing with milk and honey.
you need to give us a break!!! Mr Lieberman what the hell are you talking about!!! change his porition what the heck!! this is completelt out of left field!!! please the more you hang out with johnny the more you are a moron!!!!!!!
Joe Lieberman is about as big of a hypocrite as there is in Washington. Obama's stances are actually closer to Lieberman's *current* views than Lieberman's current views were to Al Gore's back in 2000. Obama is, in fact, *far* more conservative, including in matters abroad, than Gore ever was.

I find it disgusting that this power-hungry fool is treated like a post-partisan. He's only ever been interested in accumulating as much power as he can possibly muster. How else could he have agreed to be on Al Gore's ticket, then end up where he is today?
Another old man screamin' at the clouds.  I thought McCain was going to run a clean campaign?  Yeah right - it seems that Obama can't even turn around without one of the geezer crew jumping.  Why can't mccain just focus on his own campaign?  This harping on Obama doesn't endear McCain, it just makes him look juvenile.
For someone who moved from Democratic VP nominee to Independent to now nearly Republican, how dare he talk about conviction and principles.  Lieberman, please crawl back under the rock you came from.
Now if only Liebermann had principles. The surge is a joke! If you clowns didn't have all those Sunnis on the payroll you wouldn't see any improvement whatsoever. How long is this charade going to continue? How long will China and Japan continue to see value in US Treasury bills?
Refine does not mean CHANGE.  Get more information, refine your decision.

Boy, I can't believe Lieberman has the chutzpah to question Obama's principles.  Wow, that's a new low for Deputy Dawg - who if some of you may recall was a VICE PRESIDENTIAL candidate for Al Gore.  What a complete fraud.

No way his state lets him have another Senate term.  He is in the history books as far as politics go.
Just like McCain...troubled and confused.
What a piece of junk Lieberman is! The only position Lieberman should be worried about is whether he is a Democrat or Republican. It must pain him that he is so insignificant this election year. Shut your mouth you turncoat.
" ...and said Obama’s foreign policy plan  “troubles” and “confuses” him."
--First, of all, those are two different things.  How can it trouble him if he cannot understand it to begin with?  Clearly, that contradiction confuses me.
--Second, if he is confused by Barack Obama's foreign policy, then I worry about him holding office and being an advocate for a different (and troubling) McCain policy.  I'm saying that it's legitimate to be "troubled" but to be "confused" is a whole other can of worms.  If something so straightforward and opposite from McCain's long-standing committment in Iraq policy confuses Sen. Lieberman, then the McCain campaign has bigger fish to fry.
I think someone needs to ask Lieberman what makes him independent other than he couldn't win the democratic primary in his state. Just saying you're independent doesn't make you independent. I wonder if he will run for re-election as a republican or "independent"?
I guess undermining one Democratic Presidential candidate isn't enough for Lieberman.
Someone should explain to Joe Lieberman that there is a diversity of opinion in Israel about what to do about Iran, Gaza and many other issues. He seems to take the Likudnik views to heart.
Here is where all the people who thought Joe L. was awesome in 2000 now call him a traitor and lots of other nasty things.  Joe was a moderate then and he still is.  Just calls them like he sees them.  IMO, he sees this one pretty clearly.
Lieberman has zero standing when it comes to principles.
McCain passes gas Lieberman's lips flap in the wind. Who cares? Lieberman wants to be in the white house so bad, he'll kiss every republican tush in DC to get there. Go back to correcting the fossil candidate
Whats new here.McNothing's bunch is Easily Confused, so whats the Point of this Thread?

Here's a Principled stand for ya Joe Lieberman. I don't oppose All War's, I oppose Dumb War's!!! Barack Obama said this when you were kissing upto GWB & his Cohort's.
JOe Lieberman is a traitor to the Democratic Party.  Lieberman has a lot of nerve standing next to McSame and supporting every outdated senile opinion that comes out of his mouth while holding Democratic seats on they many committee's he holds in Washington.  Move-On.org and other Democratic organizations are going to put intense pressure on the Democratic majority party leaders in the fall to strip Lieberman of his Senate seats.  If Lieberman wants to be a Republican spokesperson - we in the Democratic party are more than willing to let him go to the minority side - minus his Senate committee seats of course.
And Lieberman has principles? he who stabbed the Democratic Party and the citizens of Connecticut in the back so that he could play lap dog to McCain?

Like I care what he says ... not.
Lieberman - shut the hell up!!!!!

Who cares about anything you say about Barack Obama -stick to your hedge fund management and continue to pretend to be a senator - until your next election
Keep talking Joe..your time is coming. When your stripped of your chairmanship and kicked out of the democratic caucuses you can go cry on Mcshame's shoulders. To think you were almost VP.
How can Lieberman attack Obama's principles? He has none.
Sen. Lieberman is so full of himself, why doesn't he just change party, why hang on to a symbol of what he ISN'T - INDEPENDENT. He should be thankful that he has this election available to him in order to periodically make the news cycle.

He is a sad representation of what happens to politicians who overstay there relevance in the public limelight. I guess since he has nothing of substance to say, if he comments on what Obama says or does in his own mind he becomes a Washington pundit.

He definitely serves to accentuate the muddled, confused and outdated McCain campaign.

Lieberman is nothing but a flake.....Has to try and make himself look stronger because the man he stands by is looking WEAKER AND WEAKER AND WEAKER...

Hey Joe!  Your OLD MAN IS YELLING AT CLOUDS.......
How can you respect what a turncoat like Lieberman says?  He lost his principles years ago.
"As Obama stressed shifting resources towards the conflict in Afghanistan, Lieberman stressed the two front’s interdependence, saying what happens in Iraq effects not just Afghanistan but other American interests around the world."

American Interests = Foreign Oil/Iraq Oil!
"...and McCain is going to stop this HOW exactly?  It's going to go to $300/barrel because of GREED, and that has nothing to do with who's president of the U.S.  It has to do with who's president of Exxon, Shell, Citgo, etc.
-------------------------------------------
It has more to do with the greed of OPEC and the Middle east.  The presidents of Shell, Citco, etc are reaping profits because of the refining capability, not the cost of oil (they are the ones directly buying the oil)
I don't have a problem with you claiming greed, but atleast understand who is actually being greedy (Middle East Leaders)
John, MI (Sent Tuesday, July 15, 2008 9:45 AM)"

Point taken, John.  However, I think there's enough greed to go around.  I may have left some out, but I don't believe that the CEOs are blameless.  As I recall, they were on the Hill defending their multi-billion dollar profits.

"Cocky is when you've never done anything, and you think you can do it. Obama is cocky.
Vince Workman, Middle Tennessee (Sent Tuesday, July 15, 2008 2:12 PM)"

Hmmmm....JFK said let's go to the moon...which we had never done and weren't sure we could do...yet we did...hmmm.  Was that cocky or confident, Vince?

Obama does not seem to understand is that, had we taken the course he had counseled and retreated from Iraq, the United States would have suffered a catastrophic defeat that would have left America and our allies less safe not just in Baghdad, but in Kandahar and Karachi and Tokyo and London,” Lieberman said.

Someone should ask Mr. Lieberman to define what would make a victory in Iraq.  He's completely making things up and is essentially pulling the Republican fear-mongering card.  "If we had listened to Sen. Obama, the whole world would be less safe!  Vote for Obama and you'll die!"

These guys are clowns.

I relish the thought of a President Obama who is actually capable of thinking and making sound decisions based on facts and reason.  I hope Sen. Lieberman loses his reelection bid as well.
Mr. Lie needs to shut his face... he's on the wrong side of this one.
What war has McCain won?????  How in the hell does he know how to win wars when his war experience was spent in a POW camp?  I didn't know that made him General Eisenhower???
McCain Flip-flops....

61 and counting........

Hey Joe, don't throw stones in a glass house.  All democrats say it together "YOUR DEAD TO ME"
Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) spoke for McCain because old John can't remember what to say.  Hey Joe I think your confusing your brother John.  Obama has been very clear on his stance on Irag and Afghanistan for months.  The two McOld twins are only confusing themselves.
Senator Lieberman:

If "The surge is working", then how exactly do you explain the latest deaths in the Diyala province and Mosul?  Apparently, the money that our government is paying various Iraqi groups to "play nice" isn't enough to keep the violence down.

And, Senator, attempting to link the London bombing to Iraq is despicable.  You and your GOP "friends" overplayed that hand long ago.
