Lieberman attacks Obama's principles

Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) spoke for McCain Tuesday before the Center for U.S. Global Engagement and said Obama’s foreign policy plan  “troubles” and “confuses” him.

Lieberman said he was unsure whether Obama supports a firm deadline for withdrawing troops from Iraq, a more flexible goal.

“I wish Sen. Obama would just say the surge has worked,” Lieberman said, “rather than changing his positions on how and when we should exit Iraq without acknowledging that these changes are understandably based on the facts on the ground.”

As Obama stressed shifting resources towards the conflict in Afghanistan, Lieberman stressed the two front’s interdependence, saying what happens in Iraq effects not just Afghanistan but other American interests around the world.

“What Sen. Obama does not seem to understand is that, had we taken the course he had counseled and retreated from Iraq, the United States would have suffered a catastrophic defeat that would have left America and our allies less safe not just in Baghdad, but in Kandahar and Karachi and Tokyo and London,” he said.

Lieberman also accused Obama of not taking principled stands, suggesting he “said he would be open to changing his plan for Iraq after going there and talking to General Petraeus -- only to change that position a few hours later after being heatedly criticized by organizations like Moveon.org?”

The Iraq war has been nothing more than a tragic and costly boondoggle: 4,000 American lives lost, nearly $1 trillion wasted, massive corruption and billions in tax dollars to politically connected contractors.  For what? To defend us from non-existent weapons of destructed? Joe just needs to shut up and disappear.  He certainly has no credibility to attack Barack Obama.
when will joe just simply go way.

he is an emabarrasment to the state of connecticut, and to the democractic party, and above all, to himself.
As a native nutmegger, I am extremely disappointed in Sen. Leiberman's policy shifts in the past few years.  He was on the ticket with Gore just eight years ago, and now he has endorsed McCain and sided with Bush on every major issue.  All this and he still wants to be in the caucus.
Also, he surge has done nothing to advance the Iraqis in political independence, which was the whole point of the surge in the first place.  Also, Sen. Obama has not changed his policy on Iraq.  He has always wanted to bring our troops out of Iraq and has always said his plan would be open for revisions.
Senator Leiberman, you should do the whole country a favor and just declare yourself a republican, because that is what you are.
This from the man whos "principals" have changed from Democrat to Republican?  That's more "troubling" and "confusing" than anything Obama has done.
Lieberman you have no principles so do not attack Barack on his. You are a trader and an oppurtunist. And no matter how much brown nosing or whispering in McCain'ts ear you do, You'll never be VP and noone will ever take youserously again!!
Joe, keep it up old boy, All us dems are looking forward to the day you finally admit your a republican. Can't for the life of me figure why Reid hasn't bounced you  off your chairmanship.
Joe Lieberman accusing Barack Obama of changing positions for political expediency... you mean like he changed from Democrat to Independent after he lost the Democratic primary. Give me a break.
Oh, now McCain has Liberman speaking for him for fear that McCain will make some additional stupid blunders or comments. But picking Liberman to speak for you is a stupid blunder in itself is it not? Read his lips Liberman. Obama said 16 months. Troops out of Iraq in 16 months. There is nothing confusing about that.

And who cares what Joe Lieberman has to say. Where is his legitimacy as a spokesperson concerning intelligent and rational thinking. He speaks of defeat when he nor McCain can define victory. Oh, was not victory claimed months ago by their leader GWB. Any progress the surge may have made (and that is debatable)is temporary. Any idiot would know that various factions in Iraq including Al Sadr are simply biding their time to take control. In fact, Afghanistan and Pakistan are a waste of time as well. If either of these candidates want to hunt down and kill Bin Laden fine by me. He deserves to be eliminated. But history will tell you, including recent history, unless the people in these areas want to change their own way of thinking and dealing with their own internally, and with the rest of the world, you cannot win a war in Iraq, Afhganistan or Pakistan. We have neither the resources nor the ability to conquer and nation build across the entire middle east. Unless the American people have the desire to totally destroy these countrys with its nuclear capability and the people living in them then it is time to come home from Iraq and Afhganistan.
At this point does anyone really care what this troll says? I'm referring to Lieberman of course.
Lieberman has no party, so therefore, should have no comments.
