Veepstakes: 'Right wing freak machine'?

Posted: Friday, July 18, 2008 9:08 AM by Domenico Montanaro

Compiled by NBC/NJ’s Mike Memoli…
DEMOCRATS: Wes Clark appeared at the "Netroots Nation" bloggers convo in Austin. And he blamed the “right wing freak machine” for blowing up his McCain comment.

Politico looks at the plausibility of Hagel on a Dem ticket or Joe Lieberman on the GOP one, saying either selection could “thrust the respective party conventions into turmoil. “According to liberal activists, Hagel would be an insult to the causes that have defined their lives, from abortion rights to the role of government in public life.” And “Lieberman’s domestic liberalism is simply unpalatable to many on the right.”

Al Gore is ruling out any chance he’d be VP again, saying he has imposed a personal two-term limit -- even, if as Katie Couric asked, Obama said he “really, really, really” needed him.

VIDEO: TODAY's Matt Lauer talks to former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney about the race to the White House and why he thinks John McCain is the right candidate for the job.

REPUBLICANS: Mitt Romney continued to play attack dog on TODAY. “Sweet talk is going to give the way to straight talk… When I was running in the primary I thought I was the right guy to run against Barack Obama. But when it comes to a comparison between John McCain and Barack Obama, I know who I think America should choose.” Asked about if he’s had “open and frank discussions” with McCain over VP, Romney said: “No, I sure haven’t. And I’m not gonna get into the process that he’s going through.”

On the eve of an ANWR visit by members of Congress, AK Gov. Sarah Palin says she’s not giving up hope that McCain will reverse his position on drilling there.

Charlie Crist’s honeymoon appears well over. “Prince Charlie: Out of town, out of touch” is the headline to this photo of him with Prince Charles in London, “beaming” while economists “were wailing about the latest signs of Florida's deteriorating condition.”

Gov. Mark Sanford’s (R-SC) appointee to a state education commission appears on a Web site of an organization dedicated to ending public education.

the republicans went after wes clark too hard.  they did the same thing they were accusing obama and his camp of doing, attacking a veteran

The Education Commissioner doesn't surprise me; the Repiglicans never felt good about an educated public, they want to splinter education, so the only educated class are the leaders (even dimwits like Bush) who go to upper-class and Ivy League schools (because they can afford them.) The well-educated class (even dimwits like Bush) will lead the undereducated underclass, who will, the rich suppose, swallow any amount of lies and horses**t the upperclass tells them.

Why do I get the feeling that this is the same treatment that the media is going to give Obama for his trip as well?

*sigh*

It's funny how the republicans settled so fast on their  Pre-nominee...VP looks more like  a witch hunt than a vettering process ...
Does anyone see the logic to their choices?...real
thinking before action...

OOOOPS, I'm sorry, looking for thought where ther is none...
I love Wes Clark and I still think he'd be an awesome Veep.  He tells it every bit like Joe Biden.  Either one would be awesome, I just find Clark to be a little more 'toned down'.  I know, that sounds silly as I type it.  Biden is much more 'pit bull' and Clark is more 'artful'.  I like them both.
Lieberman is such a traitor and disgrace to the Dem party.  I can't believe Al Gore picked him as his VP.
Well,General Clark is certainly not afraid of the Republicans or McCain. The "right-wing freak machine" is right, and it's mild considering some of the things the Republicans have said about Obama. I'd love to see Clark or Biden on Obama's ticket, but Obama would need a fleet of buses under which to throw them on a daily basis. :-)
Romney was a joke on the Today show this AM. He would be perfect for McSame; the flip flop express would be in full effect.
I like Wesley Clark, and Joe Biden. Either would be great A controversial dark horse would be Colin Powell; especially if he denounces his role in the Iraq fiasco, and finally come clean on how he was used, coerced, misled, and manipulated by the Bush/McCain/Cheney neocon propaganda machine.
The "Right-wing freak machine"? First I'd pay money to see Clark say those words. Anyone got it Tivoed? Second, a Democrat calling the Right Wing "freaks" is too funny. With the Democrats collection of misfits and near-do-wells in their party, I think it's failrly clear who is the party of the freaks, with many of them seen and hosting on msnbc nightly.
vp's will not matter as dems will clean sweep in nov. and lead America and the world out of the dark caves of fear and into the SUNLIGHT of the FUTURE and PEACE and PROSPERITY.
Lieberman is a traitor to the Democrat party??
Just the opposite is true. The Democratic machine were the traitors to him. He was a sitting Democrat Senator and his own party turns their back on him and supported his rival in the primary. How do you expect him to remain loyal to Democrats when his own party abandoned him just because he's not a lock-step zombie to the liberal wacko movement. Isn't the Democrat party supposed to be a party of inclusion, a party of free ideas on a wide range of ideas? On one issue regarding the war he gets jettisoned by his party. Shame on the democrat party for turning their back on him.
If mccain wants the biggest suck ass in the world as VP, he should pick flip flop mitt. They can flip and flop together.
Why would Smirking Joe want to be VP, when he can be co-president with Mc Bush?
I just wish McCain would name Palin already so the fun could begin (that is, fun watching the Dems and MSM running scared)!

Gen Clark, please take an extended, four-month vacation in Fiji. You are really aren't helping things here.
Sharon Wall,

Obama campaigned for him in his primary - which he lost.  I will bet an ice cream Sundae there is no way he wins that seat in his next election.  He better hope McCain wins and puts him in a cabinet position; because his days as a Senator are over at the end of this term.
"But when it comes to a comparison between John McCain and Barack Obama, I know who I think America should choose.”

Well, don't keep us on pins and needles.
In light of Mitt Romney's history with animal abuse, is "attack dog" really the appropriate phrase?

Though if selected as VP, I do envision Mitt traveling around the country with John McCain strapped to the station wagon's roof recreating Chevy Chase's Grandma in National Lampoon's Vacation.
Romney is correct that sweet talk (gas tax holiday) will give way to straight talk (need for new energy sources beyond just oil).  I don't know how he can be realistic when it comes to needing to get off the old idea of using oil.  No matter how much we drill and get from our own sources, we will still be importing oil from somewhere.  Our national security and environment depends upon we as a country coming together and understanding the issue of energy as a larger problem
"Right-wing freak machine"?

Love it.  Can I get that as a ringtone?

It's either that, or "*#!* it, we'll do it LIVE!!!"
