And it gets worse?

From NBC's Domenico Montanaro
Democrats point out that McCain misspoke on ABC's Good Morning America, as he talked about the problems on the "Iraq-Pakistan border." He probably meant to say the Afghanistan-Pakistan border as they were talking about Afghanistan and there is no Iraq-Pakistan border.

McCain was asked if he agrees that the situation in Afghanistan is precarious and urgent. To that, he said, "Well I think it's very serious...I don't know the exact vocabulary, but it's a serious situation, but there's a lot of things we need to do. We have a lot of work to do and I'm afraid it's a very hard struggle, particularly given the situation on the Iraq/Pakistan border."

McCain has made other mistakes on the region, including confusing Sunni with Shia and on more than one occasion stating incorrectly that Al Qaeda was getting help from Iran.

Republicans have pointed out Obama telling CBS he'd be dealing with Maliki for the next eight to 10 years. They have snarkily said apparently Obama wants to change the Constitution because the most a president can serve is eight years. If Obama were to serve two terms, that would be about eight-and-a-half years from now. Republicans also point out that it's been 925 days since Obama has been to Iraq, but McCain has been there eight times.

On TODAY this morning, McCain told NBC's Meredith Vieira, "And you can't choose to lose a war in Iraq in my view in order to win in Afghanistan. Of course we have problems in Afghanistan and as we succeed in Iraq there will be troops available to go to Afghanistan, but it's more than just troops. Senator Obama doesn't understand that it is a strategy, the same strategy that succeeded in Iraq, we will employ in Afghanistan, the one that he rejected and still does not accept the success of."

Those McCain "senior moments" are now "senior hours".
Andrea Mitchell is in the "tank" for McCain. McCain and her husband, Greenspan were BC "kindergaten playmates".

No McCain; it is YOU who has not accepted "Success"!! The Iraqi Prime Minister has asked us to leave in a reasonable amount of time. WE HAVE ALREADY WON!!
A "surge" is not a "Strategy", it is a TACTIC! Strategy would involve us actually fighting those that actually attacked us in a defined and focused manner that would actually get the job DONE!!

Barack Obama has asked that we prosecute the real "War against Terroism" by taking the fight to Afganistan..where the Head of the Terrorists who has admitted the responsibility for 9/11 resides in relative serenity since your pal Bush has not tried to get him. You want to stay in Iraq; Obama wants to get Bin Laden; we the people want to get Bin Laden too!

I guess I now understand why you finished at the bottom of your class...you never did get the difference between "Strategy" and "Tactics"!! Kind of tough for a "Military Man" to do well without that basic knowledge!!

Incompetance will no longer be accepted. You can thank your pal Bush for that development. Even Barack Obama, (once elected POTUS), will find that the American People will quickly lose patience if he does not get the job done!!

This whole obsession that McCain has about making sure we don't "lose" in Iraq to me reveals some serious emotional issues that remain from his time as a POW. He seems to think that handing a sovereign nation back to its government - one that WE put in place - constitutes a "loss". I think he's scarred from his experience, and is hell-bent on trying to find the 'victory' that eluded him in Vietnam. Someone needs to pay for what he went through, and someone needs to be defeated. McCain is on an endless mission to seek revenge against someone - he just needs his victory.
Ann from Utica...if it was Obama who made that mistake...it would be on all the news everywhere.  They are waiting for him to make a mistake.  So don't find it unsual that they will report this type of mistake on McCain since he has made a series of these over the past couple of months.  I think some people will understand that he meant to say something else, but they sure didn't give Obama that same courtesy when he said 57 states...knowing he was referring to the amount of primaries and locations, not states.

What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

Obama '08
I watched a townhall in Michigan yesterday where McCain referred to arsenic on toys from China --- ??? I'm sure he meant lead paint.
I want everyone to imagine what the media coverage would have been like if Obama had made this many foreign policy gaffes(referring to a non-existent country multiple times, confusing Sunni and Shia 3 times, saying Al Qaeda is being trained by Iran, Iraq/Pakistan border, joking about bombing Iran and killing their citizens) to this point. There would be 24/7 news coverage attacking him relentlessly, calling him inexperienced and unqualified to be Commander-in-Chief. But, McCain is getting a free ride from his self-proclaimed "base", the media, so it's not surprising that these major mistakes get little coverage
Obama2008

"You Hit The Nail On The Head".

Another Clinton call McCain that thinks he deserve to be in the White House because he knows how to wins wars with no experience unless it's call being a POW, I respect his service though, not his 26 years in Washington thinking out loud it's mind.

This is not creditable service putting some one in office that can't remember what day it is.

Another brillant thinker who believes he earn it.

"Not my vote"  The Blind leading the Blind".
folks should really check out the "Just Asking" on culturethreads this AM.  I think they are right that McCain didn't seem well this AM on the news shows....

The MSM needs to report on a potential gaffe by Rudy G at his event with McCain this weekend. I saw a clip on the news where Guiliani said "McCain's been going over there for 20 - 30 years [he knows what the situation is over there]."

Excuse me? Afghanistan and Iraq were most definately not a blip on McCain's once sane mind 20 - 30 years ago.
FYI... Facts do count in repeating a candidate's position... especially when one argues against it.

Obama is the one who wants to move troops from Iraq to Afghanistan.

McCain wants NATO (i.e. other countries) to invest more personnel and funds into Afghanistan (aka "surge"). There is no wholesale move of troops from Iraq to Afghanistan like Obama.

There is a difference between the two strategies. Details do count.
My friends...I will attack Pakistan across the saudi border through france to protect this nation...laugh if you want but I was a POW...lmao..mcsenile is right
And we the W was stupid!
Obama said he'd be dealing with Maliki for the next eight to 10 years.

Please do the math... from today it is 8-1/2 years to the end of an Obama presidency if he is elected (not 9-1/2).

Also note that being in the Senate and campaigning is NOT "dealing with Maliki." Today is his FIRST communication with the Prime Minister of Iraq... aka "first" dealing with Maliki.

Mccain has been there 8 times...and still doesn't know the difference between sunni and shiite, doesn't know where the borders are. His ignorance is amazing.
And we want McCain to control a nuclear button??  Scray.
McCain's senior moment...the guy is too confused to understand the difference. He is too old. Has he been tested for all timer
Marty in KC you rock.  People, you can't even make this stuff up......Pretty soon MCCain's globe will be a bamb shaped cylinder. Not to mention all his wife beating, cigarette killing, Beach Boy imitating, 100 year debacles. And Yes, Carol Martin, his Today Show interview was pitiful.  You could tell he was boiling at Meredith's line of questioning on Gramm's role in his camp.  This person is not fit to have the privilege of Highest Office.
Just last week, McCain said we won the war in Iraq thanks to the surge.  Now, he's saying we can't lose the war in Iraq just to win the war in Afghanistan.

When is McCain going to stick with a position?

McCain violation National Security by announcing when Obama would be in Iraq.  That is treason and can never be forgiven.
it's almost sad to watch McCain try to convince us he is living in this century.  The Iraq/Pakistan border is a lovely gaffe, which adjoins malapropically the Czechoslovakia of the senile mind.  Does he know there is a border between Iran and Iraq?  Or between Afghanistan and Pakistan? More and more, McCain is like a stopped grandfather clock kept for its casework: not functioning at all, but right twice a day every day... tick, tock, surge, attack...  McCain '08: the ultimate proof that Darwin was wrong... monkeys learn from their mistakes...
The real battle for the Presidency was truly between Hilary and Barrack. There is no way anyone from the Republican side will win this election. With McCain, it's not even close.
Unless Obama commits a major blunder or blunders, he should get it.
hey you whinners, who do you want to answere that 3 am call, me or that twit obama and by the way if it is the week end I ain't answering.  some one answere that doorbell... o its the phone well someone answere that phone ...o its just ringing in my head o well..zzzzzzzz
McCain is getting senile and he talks like he has problems putting words/thoughts together. Perhaps it's the "I dont know the exact vocabulary" statement, just like some of the other statements where he says, I dont know the answer to that, I will have my staff get back to you today. Many times, he has made mistakes . He just doesnt seem to be able to think by himself. It always has to be scripted and memorized. When off the cuff, he get very confused. I dont see why some of the undecideds dont see this.
If you want get technical about Obama's 8-10 yr remark, if elected, he would be in office 8 FULL years and 2 PARTIAL yrs (Nov 2008 and Jan 2017 where he would be either dealing or perparing to deal with Maliki's government). Guess the Republican's cant add right just as their presumptive nominee cant get other things right. They were made for each other!
It only took Republicans 30 years to find some disgusting fraud to make Nixon look like a good president - looks like they're out to justify president Monkey Paw in the very next cycle.
