Obama Spanish-language radio ad

Posted: Wednesday, July 23, 2008 12:19 PM by Domenico Montanaro
Filed Under:

From NBC's Domenico Montanaro
Obama makes an appeal to the Hispanic community drawing on his biography in his latest Spanish-language radio ad, which will run in Colorado, Florida, New Mexico and Nevada beginning today.

All four are battlegrounds with Hispanic voters. Florida, however, has a higher concentration of typically more conservative Cuban voters.

Script for “Nuestro Propio Camino”:
OBAMA: I´m Barack Obama and I approve this message.
ANNCR: Some people have power and connections.
But most of us have to make our own way through life. This is true even for the man who could become the next President … Barack Obama. He grew up without a father -- raised by his mother with the support of his grandparents. Through student loans and hard work, he graduated from college.

Obama never forgot his roots… He worked with churches to help families get job training and after-school care for their children. In the State Senate, he passed a law that helped reduce the welfare roles by over 80% by helping families to secure jobs. And despite the political pressure, Obama has stood with us for immigration reform and spoke out for our veterans.

It’s time we had a President who understands we all deserve a chance to make our own way.

Why are they not running the ad in Texas?
Si se pueda!!
Good Ad. The Hispanic vote will go Obama, in big numbers.
It's nice that Obama took it upon himself to learn fluent Spanish in less then a week since he asked all Americans to do the same. Most people take years to do the same thing. I guess that's why Barack is called the Messiah.
Barack Obama is looking Presidential.

John McCain is acting Presidential.
> Si se pueda!!

Si esto pudiera qué?
What...no attack on McCain?
Why are some of you getting upset over this ad.  McTroll has already done his Spanish ad and you did not get upset.  Stop being so blatently one sided!   GEEZzzzzz.
[[Couldn't believe my ears yesterday when she called Obama "cocky".]]

Confident is when you have performed a task in the past, and you believe you can perform the same task either the same or better in the future.

Cocky is when you have never done much of anything, but believe you can do things that you've never previoulsy done.

Barack Obama is cocky. Arrogant too.
You know, it is amazing how the Hispanic community has morphed from the Republican charatization of them as a "problem to be dealt with" to one of the most important voting blocks.

What happened to all that talk about the border fence and denying "illegals" services during the Republican primary?

It's almost as if it was an over hyped abuse of a complicated issue designed to rally the conservative base and get more votes or something . . .

Go figure.

P.S. To Clara Kansas City, MO :  I tried to hold down the blogs for you yesterday, but the McCain campaign is telling so many unchallenged lies, we need all hands on deck! Hurry back! :)
Why are they not running the ad in Texas?
Pregunta, TX

Two reasons: Very Expensive media markets and very small chance of winning Texas.  Adding in Texas, even just the higher hispanic areas of Texas, would probably double the cost of the ad buy.
We all love Mika but she CONSTANTLY gets rolled by GOP Joe.   Joe got a real education from General Clark this morning but until then he was running his mouth without the benefit of the facts.   MSNBC, put somebody on that show with some more firepower than Mika.  Every time there's a confrontation with Joe, she shrinks into sorority girl giggles.
Muy poderosa!

(Sorry if I butchered that, I actually speak Portuguese)
Amy from portland me, post your e-mail - need to talk
Cooper Diaz, good point.   Actually you're right, if your definition of acting Presidential is George Bush.  By that metric, Jurassic John is spot on.  Doesn't know his geography (Iraq and Afghanistan do NOT share a border), doesn't know his basic facts about Iraq (Sunni/Shiaa), and thinks that Putin is the Prime Minister of Germany.   Yes Cooper, come to think of it you're precisely right.  John McCain is indeed acting Presidential.
sorry, i've been in meetings for 2 days, UGH - some thoughts from today's postings:

I think the McCain camp is trying to sabotage McCain.  john (Sent Wednesday, July 23, 2008 10:23 AM)
I can feel your pain, John.  While McCain is not my candidate – it does make you wonder who the heck is steering the boat into the iceberg.  I said this during the Clinton debacle.  If she is so much better than her campaign, why did she keep hitting the snooze button?  It doesn’t make sense when supposedly ‘better’ people make such glaringly BAD decisions on something as basic as a campaign.  How on earth do they then lay claim to being ready to do anything (on Day 1, or any other future date)?

To coin Chaz Michaels (Will Ferrell), “It’s mind bottling!!  You know, when everything gets all mixed up like it’s in a bottle.”  Or something like that.

PS.  adeadrepublican, atlanta, ga (Sent Wednesday, July 23, 2008 9:52 AM) In answer to your question (and I’m for the other team, so take it with a grain of salt); but I believe the reason the Republicans are in such a state of confusion right now is that John McCain was thrown under the bus so they could run their “messiah”, ‘W’.  He was told if he played nice, they would insure him a shot at the prize in ’08.  The Maverick had his vasectomy and started swilling at the GOP trough.  Now, what they didn’t bank on was that ‘W’ is a massive moron and the ‘low information voters’ would actually get squeezed enough to give a damn.  Also, they failed to calculate McCain’s age and intelligence (used loosely) and the memory loss he has suffered since 2000.  As a result, the party is finally getting their ROI (return on investment).  I know you are saddened; but this pendulum always swings back.  So take your lumps and in eight years, you all might actually have a candidate that’s worth a crap.  (okay, I don’t really believe that last part).  In summary, don’t make deals with the Devil, you might actually get what you ask for and not what you need.

Amy B Portland, ME, (Battleground:  Is Carolina really in Play)
I am sure you can ‘walk back’ from your ‘inartful’ comment to ‘appease’ Glenbard Willard, SC who clearly didn’t catch Betty Dickinson, Fayetteville, NC joke.  PS.  People debunked the serving eight year’s as president yesterday by actually quoting article 22 of the constitution (that document Glenbard and other Repubs have been wiping their A**es with lately).

At any rate, we all knew what you meant, so don’t fret – I enjoy your posts.

OGLiberal (Sent Wednesday, July 23, 2008 9:46 AM) here’s a hysterical ‘spoof’ on the Jewish thing.  http://www.comedycentral.com/videos/index.jhtml?videoId=177061

Sorry; but no time to keep up - I've got to work to pay the bills!  No welfare for this raging liberal, in spite what so many of you think about us.
John McCain is acting rigid confused and exhibiting little feel for the diverse people and cultures of the larger world.  He acts like somebody with a highly simplistic us vs them attitude and a view of  foreign policy issues in military terms primarily, diplomatic terms least.  This is "acting presidential" only in so much as it is acting  exactly like President GW Bush, whose presidency will be remembered forever as a tragic blight on the nation and the world.
"Anyone else notice that when someone posts asking a dem to list the accomplishments Obama has had, all the dems seem to ignore the post. Kind of funny that they ask the repubs for substance, but can't give any about their own candidate! Just funny is all.
Adam, St. Louis (Sent Wednesday, July 23, 2008 11:11 AM)"

Adam - why is it that when a repub asks a dem a question and the dem answers it, then the repub ignores then response and then asks why the dem didn't respond?  Just funny is all.

It's not like the repubs believe what dems say, and vice versa.  What's hysterical is that we keep bother answering each other (definition of insanity - doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result).
Barack Obama is looking Presidental.John McCain is acting Presidental. Cooper Diaz.NM===============================================Please, John McCain is acting like an angry IDIOT.
FR >>>He worked with churches to help families get job training and after-school care for their children<<

Too bad he couldn't stop them from shooting each other. But, he did outlaw guns in his city. Then, only the outlaws had guns. Good plan Senator. Many of those gravestones in Chicago are your responsibility.

Obama up by 1 in Florida by Rasmussen today!  Yea!

I am gald Obama is not trying to totally avoid the immigartion issue.  I know it is unpopular with many voters.  Even as a liberal I find myself torn on the issue, but it can't continue to be ignored.  Some political compromise must be reached.  We need to secure our borders and find a path to legalization for the otherwise lawful inhabitants in our country.  We must be able to determine who is and shoudl be living in our country in order to achieve security.
FR - why aren't you covering this in it's own thread?

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/07/23/mccain-camp-attacks-obama_n_114486.html
"If Barack Obama had had his way, the Sheiks who started the Awakening would have been murdered at the hands of al Qaeda, and US forces would have already left Iraq in defeat," he added.

A better statement is if Barack Obama had his way 4200 Americans would be alive today. Also 4 trillion dollars would have benn saved, gas prices would have been lower. Further al Qaeda would not have been in Iraq and maybe just maybe OBL would have been killed or captured.
How is McCain acting presidential?? All he's been doing is whining. "The media is against me, Obama made gas pries go up, American's are having a mental recession and need to stop crying about the economy and blah, blah, blah..." What on earth is presidential about that?

Obama on the other hand is getting praise from every world leader he meets. When is the last time you heard Palestenians and Isreali's praise McCain or Bush?
Barack Obama is looking Presidential.

John McCain is acting Presidential.
Cooper Diaz, NM (Sent Wednesday, July 23, 2008 12:31 PM)
----------------------------------------------------

If that's the case, then McCain is the worst actor I've ever seen...although all those lobbyists writing his scripts are partially to blame.

Try this one.

Barack Obama is Presidential

McCain is a Sellout
John McCain is acting like a whiner. He Complains about not getting enough press, complains about Barack going to Iraq after he complained that he had not been in Iraq for a while..just the other day he complained about his Depends diapers for adults.
Ok. Just for the record: "si se puede" does not mean "Yes we can"  it means yes, it can be done.  The correct translation would be "Si Podemos".  Just wanted to infuse some correct Español. :)

Obama '08  Sí Podemos!
El Obama, Barack didn't ask all Americans to learn Spanish.  He said the single-minded focus of No Child Left Behind on narrow-focus aptitude tests takes away from a broad range of worthy educational programs including foreign languages.  If he's wrong prove it.  There's plenty of data to show he's right on that point.
Cooper Diaz, NM (Sent Wednesday, July 23, 2008 12:31 PM)- Barack Obama is looking Presidential. John McCain is acting Presidential.

Cooper:

I agree. John McCain is acting like Presidential George W. Bush. Nothing of substance, attack your opponent for doing something you recommneded he do, play the fear card, make mental errors that tell everyone that this guy is not Presidential material. We knew it before Bush was elected and we know the same about McCain before he has a chance to be elected. The difference being that this time around the Ameican people will not make the same mistake. So Obama might as well get used to looking Presidential.

I agree cooper diaz, Mccain acts just like Bush.
Not a good thing.
"Cocky is when you have never done much of anything, but believe you can do things that you've never previoulsy done.
Barack Obama is cocky. Arrogant too.

This has already been refuted before, and I think this post was posted by a "Victor" something or other.  Since you can't read or (possibly) are a different person, let me recap.

JFK thought we could go to the moon and we had never done that - was that cocky or confident?  Either way, we have had a space program for over 40 years.  Call it what you will, I guess.
Barack Obama is looking Presidential.

John McCain is acting Presidential.
--Cooper Diaz, NM

****************

No....Barack Obama IS Presidential - in his use of language, his judgment, his ideas, his ability to connect with people at home and abroad, his understanding of complex issues, etc.

McCain made a mistake: he repetitively called on Obama to take this trip abroad (a trip that had already been planned, undoubtedly), and now he's having a temper tantrum since it's going well for Obama.  His whining about not getting any media attention the last few days is not presidential. His lying about Obama's use of the war for political gain is not presidential. His inability to control the message coming from his campaign (think Black, Gramm, etc.) is not presidential.  McCain's actions and words this week only confirm my decision to support Obama.

Cooper is spot on. McCain is acting like George Bush.

http://laststopmidwest.blogspot.com/2008/07/likeable.html
Presidents might as well start addressing the nation and giving their press conferences in spanish. It will be our offical language in another ten years or so.
The problem with "Morning Joe" is Joe.  He has nothing to add to the general debate except his own sophomoric ramblings.  Mika DOES need to stop the giggling, but the only way that show improves is when MSNBC develops some pride and fires Joe.

Still watching Don Imus.....
Gawd, it's 1pm, and I', bracing myself for----wait for it----Mika AND Andrea on MSNBC

I may need a beer................
Good grief.  Obama is an ignorant puppet with no experience that regurgitates other people's ideas as his own.  He is arrogant with no substance.
Someone needs to remind the hispanics that a majority of mccains supporters want them and their kind rounded up and shipped home. Pronto!
No need to broadcast this commerical in California....

Obama is taking the Latinop vote by 2 to 1 over McCain
So much for Obama's 'Hispanic problem'
We're Democrats in California !!

Obama SI !, McCain NO !

But what about the spanish language ad by mccain? The one where he did his best ronny raygun impression and said he would "tear down this wall" if elected.
‘…While Mr. Obama was shown striding across military tarmacs and inspecting troops standing at attention, Mr. McCain on Monday was seen being driven around in a golf cart by former President George Bush in the resort town of Kennebunkport, Me…’

Isn’t that what you do after you retire ?
It really is time for John McCain to seriously consider retirement
Has he made plans?
Does he know what he’ll do in retirement?
Will he out live his ‘nest egg’?

Time for John McCain to give up his quixotic quest for the Presidency and start planning for the rest of his life

Maybe John can be a role model for boomers preparing to retire from life’s cares

Take a nap John, you’ve had a long morning

John 'I'll get back to you on that' McCain
Someone asked why the ad wasn't running in Texas.  I am sure cost is part of it, but...I'd love to see some Obama advertising here.  Our state has a huge population of Hispanics, and they need to hear Obama's message.  Even yesterday, I had to correct someone about the myth that Obama is a Muslim.  I'm hoping that the increased coverage he is getting during his trip abroad will help with that.

Can't wait for the debates!!!
CBS news omitted McCain's massive gaffe from their video of his interview last night.

culturethreads.com has the uneditted video posted on their website for all to see.

Juan, Amen to that!!!
Gawd I take it all back-----Andrea just got owned by Ambassador Holbrook

I may have a beer anyhow......
COME ON FR!!! Where is the Couric/CBS story of McCain's Gaffe regarding the Sunni Awakening!!!!!!!  And CBS's attempt to cover it ( the Gaffe ) up!!!!!!! If BO had made such mistakes, the MSM would be riding him on it until November!!!!!!

I WOULD IMAGINE YOU WOULD BE ALL OVER THIS....IT IS YOUR COMPETITION DOING VERY WRONG THINGS!!!!!

HUFFY POST HAS BEEN ON THIS SINCE YESTERDAY!!!!!!!
John McCain is acting like your typical right wing Republican. Their visual and mental skills are limited to a world of black and white. For us or against us. My-way-or-the-highway. Love it or leave it. We'll trickle down a little bit of our wealth to you ($50 gas tax savings over three months). War or peace without diplomacy. Nation build so all countrys have the exact systems as the U.S. Bring down tyrants we don't like and support the ones who benefit our pockets. We realize you lost your jobs in PA, Michighan and Ohio but that's the way it is. Those jobs will not be back. But don't whine about it. I have health care but you don't, sorry about that. You should have run for public office. Etc. Etc.
'..."Cocky is when you have never done much of anything, but believe you can do things that you've never previoulsy done.
Barack Obama is cocky. Arrogant too.
Justine Times (Sent Wednesday, July 23, 2008 12:37 PM)"

Actually cocky is a Viet Nam era draft dodger prancing on an aircraft carrier in a pilots outfit in front of a sign saying 'Mission Accomplished'

THAT's COCKY !

Cocky is LYING to the American people and the world about WMDs....
In response to Juan Valdez, I don't think most people, even McCain supporters, have anything against "hispanics....and their kind".....just the ILLEGAL ones.
