Ted Stevens indicted

From NBC's Pete Williams and Mark Murray
US officials say the Justice Department has indicted Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens (R) on charges related to a long-running investigation of business dealings in Alaska.

Stevens, who has served in the US Senate for 40 years, is up for re-election this year, and Democrats view his seat as one of their top pick-up opportunities.

*** UPDATE *** The Cook Political Report labels the Alaska Senate race as a "toss up."

However, before the general election, Stevens has to survive a GOP primary that occurs on August 26.

*** UDPATE II *** NBC's Ken Strickland adds that, per Senate GOP caucus rules, if a member is indicted, he or she can no longer serve as chairman or ranking member of a committee until the case is resolved. Upon conviction, the chair/ranking member would automatically be replaced.

Stevens is ranking member of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee.

Repugs strike again!! BYE BYE!!!
OBAMA 08!!
The Dems may get close to that veto proof Senate.....although it won't matter, since they will have control over the Presidency and both houses of Congress.

Actually it does matter.  Otherwise you get obstructionists like Mitch McConnell blocking everything just to be a prick.  Without 60 even just a few Republicons could keep anything from getting done because of the stupid rules in the Senate.
Is Karl Rove next and Gonzo next?
-----------------
And when will Dodd and Obama be indicted to talk about their mortgages?????????????
As far as how Ted Stevens brings home the bacon for his state, the best long term comparison to him might be Robert Byrd, or maybe Ted Kennedy and the Big Dig.

Criminal matters are another story.
Stevens, who has served in the US Senate for 40 years...

Then you have McTroll for 25 or so years in there too.  You can bet you last dollar that he is into a lot of 'Stuff" too.  Not to mention the "affair" that the press corp backed off of.

The Reps. are now saying, "Who is Barack Obama".  My question is why don't you (the press) tell us who the REAL McInSane is?

Why are you so scared of him?

The V.N. VETS are not afraid to say what REALLY happened back then in the POW camp. just check out YouTube.

Why won't you all report it?

They should have senator ted take the perp walk off the bridge to nowhere...and take don young with you

And the Republicans are always so self righteous, telling the rest of us heathens how to live a moral life!  It's time to not only lock up this Stevens guy but also Karl Rove and Gonzo.  House Dems - get on the stick and get these guys indicted.  Especially Rove for contempt of Congress.
