Obama: It's not just his birthday...

Posted: Monday, August 04, 2008 9:04 AM by Domenico Montanaro

This week is the campaign’s Energy Week. Per the campaign, Obama is kicking it off with a speech in Michigan today, and he’ll be traveling to Ohio and Indiana later in the week to talk about his short-term and long-term solutions to high gas prices and high energy bills.

Here’s Obama’s new TV ad on energy.

McCain spokesman Tucker Bound issues this statement in response to Obama’s ad. "Barack Obama's latest negative attack ad shows his celebrity is matched only by his hypocrisy, after all it was Senator Obama, not John McCain, who voted for the Bush-Cheney energy bill that was a sweetheart deal for oil companies. Also not mentioned is the $400,000 from big oil contributors that Barack Obama has already pocketed in this election."

Not surprisingly, Obama is asking that Florida and Michigan get their full votes at the Dem convention.

Obama agreed to the three presidential debates, but no more.

The Los Angeles Times' Rainey wonders if Obama's biggest problem is acting TOO presidential.  Remember when the critique was he's not presidential enough?

The Boston Globe warns Obama about his upcoming vacation, and it looks at the images created by other candidate vacations (Kerry and windsurfing, Reagan chopping wood, JFK sailing, Eisenhower golfing.) "In an arena dominated by personality-stifling suits and cookie-cutter rallies, vacations are colorful departures from the everyday and a window into our leaders' hearts, showing us what they find beautiful and relaxing, the people and places they value most. But a vacation is also a prime setting for a political fiasco, a kaleidoscope of dorky outfits, unplanned digressions, and luxurious backdrops that can look (always in hindsight) awfully inappropriate during times of economic hardship. For Kerry, what might have seemed like an impressively athletic activity for a man in late middle age morphed into the perfect visual metaphor for his opponents' case against him."

If a man cannot go on vacation without the media going nuts over a photo of swimming or the like.... then the American people have completely lost any semblance of intelligence. Thanks for the dumbing down of the American people.  I aim to acheive the standards of MSNBC and their stealth reporting on the important issues of the election; namely, how only blacks can be racist and pop stars.  Thanks for the policy dialogue.
this ad is great and it hits McCain on the issues rather then personal attacks

mccain has missed more votes in the senate then any other senator

'Dorky'?  Really?

Seriously though, I do hope that Obama limits his time with celebrities.  McCain's 'celebrity' meme is absurd to be sure -- but there are those out there who will believe that kind of garbage as truth.  Go to the beach and relax.  Then get back to work.

Happy 47th birthday Barack.  My gift to you today is 47 new voters who have completed their voter registration forms.
The Gop appears to have set up a Catch 22 scenario for every eventuality, when it comes to Obama. There whole attack machine is becoming paradoxical. Is Obama the best known celebrity in the world or do we really not know him yet? Unbelievaly the GOP has used both  of these opposing views to attempt to influence low information voters. Please, voters, do not let  these disingenuous, stupid tactics decide yet  another election!
i would just like to say happy 47th birthday to Barack Obama.  may you have many many more!!!!!
And these guys accuse Obama of going negative. Absolutely mind boggling.

I wonder how many Republicans still think of McCain as presidential?
"Not surprisingly, Obama is asking that Florida and Michigan get their full votes at the Dem convention"

My how magnanimous of a man who was against them counting when it was to his benefit. As always, Obama doesn't disappoint. Fake, fraud, user.
Didn't Obama just a few months ago say that you can't change the rules of the game and said he would accept whatever decision the DNC made regarding Fl and MI delegates? Now he doesn't want to follow the rules and wants them fully reinstated. If he didn't want them fully reinstated when it mattered, why now? Reinstating them now is only a formality and he is only doing it to look good in the eyes of FL and MI voters. Another flip flop that doesn't mean anything but shows that he is a typical politician.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Sen. Obama. Nice ad.
Happy Birthday Barack and I hope that the pundits, MSNBC, angry negative voters and the like will give you a much needed day of rest from insults harassment and racial smears.

I think you are the greatest. I admire your ability to negotiate and see all sides of the equation.

Happy Birthday, Senator Obama!
With a tropical storm churning in the Gulf of Mexicao, you better top off those gas tanks today.  Thanks to Barak Obama and Nancy Pelosi (The WORST house speaker in United States history), young working mothers will have to choose between milk for their children and gasoline to get them to work.

Wow! An informative ad about(gasp!)the actual issues that Americans really care about. Thanks Obama!

When I'm spending $80 bucks to fill up my gas tank, it makes me wonder if McCain has even pumped his own gas lately - he seems out of touch with the problems that the average American faces.
The McSurge camp can't hang with the "real" issues so all they do is attach with negativety. I blame the media for catering to McSurge.

Not this time McSurge/McMedia.
Happy Birthday Senator! Hopefully you'll be celebrating it NEXT year in the White House!
Happy 47th birthday and a Happier New Administration in Washington D.C.

Happy Birthday, Senator Obama. May the next one be in  the White House.
Sen. Obama, you deserve a vacation with your family and just be yourself. I'm sick of everybody trying to make you into what they think or want you to be.

I hope you have a wonderful birthday as well. My gift to you is a new registered voter. My nephew, a voter skeptic, has never in his life voted and will cast his first vote for you. I'm honored and pleased to have assisted your campaign in this manner and I will try to get as many new voters registered as I possibly can.

I do believe that Virginia will be blue in November and if it isn't, it won't be from my lack of trying.

OBAMA/BIDEN 08/12

Jerry - so you're saying that if Pelosi had stayed for discussion on drilling a couple days ago, we'd have enough gasoline in time to off-set the effects of this current storm bearing down on Texas?

Wow. Maybe we should take another look at these Republican plans for drilling. All the experts are saying it wouldn't produce squat for decades, and yet Jerry is telling us we can have additional domestic gasoline at the corner station in days.
because its Barack Obama birthday, i'm calling for every body to donate $47.00 to his campaign!!!
I'm making mine right now!!!
I would like to wish Obama a Happy 47th birthday and many many more.

Obama Supporter
Jerry/Corpus Christi:

Explain to us how Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi could be effective in having gas prices drop today or even last week so we could see a real difference now.

You are quick to criticize Democrats and rant against liberals however, you offer no solutions.
Once again the" camp bomber " attacks, the same way that lil'bushie attacked him,and now his camp has sold out to good old Karl Rove.Thats what we need, the same old gloom and doom, slam, lie, distort, scare, tictics that they have used in the past. They hope to win over the "not informed".and for now they hope there scare tactics will help them.I think this will back fire because more people are paying attention and will base there vote on who has a plan on who has the smarts to be POTUS not someone that needs to be told everything that he should think and say and belives that the Karl way is the way.
Happy Birthday Sen Obama, yesterday I canvassed 47 homes for you as did many others.

It was hot and tiring work, but so worthwhile.

There are a lot of nice people out there who have great concerns for the country but will be supporting you.
Why did you only link to Obama's ad rather than putting up a viewer and allowing it be played directly from FR like you do with most of McCain's ads????????????????????????
Happy Birthday and many more to come.

While vacations don't worry about the gas prices. There is no shortage of oil, the shortage is refinery capability. Big oil has not nor will not construct new platforms because they lose the ability to price fix along with their speculators.

Let the dumb american believe that we will drill ourselves out of this mess believe McCain.

You deserve what you get or reap what you sow.

Happy Birthday, Sen. Obama

Re: MI and FL  It was  understood all along that whoever succeeded in getting a sufficient number of *legitimate* delegates to clinch the nomination would, as a courtesy to the voters of those states, move to have the entire delegations seated.  This would have been done whether the nominee was Obama, Clinton, Edwards, Richardson or any of the others.  If you want to criticize Sen. Obama, please do so on an issue that is legitimate.

Re: his vacation   I believe his plans call for him to go to his original home, in Hawaii, and visit his elderly grandmother.  ("Toot" for those of you who have read his books.)  If the Republicans try to run a sarcastic ad about that ...... more power to them.
"Also not mentioned is the $400,000 from big oil contributors that Barack Obama has already pocketed in this election."

And this compares to $2M HOW exactly?  Where the proof, hmm?
Happy Birthday, Senator Obama.

Good grief, can't the guy go on vacation without worrying what he looks like? Let him go be with his children and wife and relax. He has earned it.

Part of the issue with his perceived "celebrity" is that the media hounds Obama day and night. Give him a break.

Also - let's not rish "dorky" pictures of the man on vacation, but he needs to prove he's one of us.

HUH?

Do you know of ANYONE who doesn't look "dorky" on vacation?  EXACTLY.
"If a man cannot go on vacation without the media going nuts over a photo of swimming or the like.... then the American people have completely lost any semblance of intelligence."

CR, I'm afraid to say we're to that point.  With a 24 hour news cycle and phones with cameras, anything can tip the insanity scale and cause a big blunder for a political candidate.
Happy Birthday, Senator Obama.

I hope Obama finds a place to vacation away from the always negative MSM. No matter what he does, the MSM will a negative spin on it. That's the last thing Obama needs while on vacation.

As a matter of fact, stay tuned for the MSM and the Republicans to ridicule Obama for taking a vacation. I'm sure the Republicans will run ads claiming Obama is lazy, and the MSM will pay them in an endless loop.
Moonbats don't get it. America will NOT elect a leftist. You've tried this with every election since Clinton. Gore lost, so move to the left with Kerry. Kerry loses bigger so move to the left with a complete marxist, obama. You guys need to hold up your end of the bargain in the 2 party system. Put up candidates that might actually have a chance of winning. If republicans chose their candidates the same way, Pat Buchanan would be the nominee.

You guys haven't learned a thing from the Clinton win, good or bad, he won because he was a "centrist". A slimy one, but still a centrist. He was never a marxist.

Democrats, kick out the leftist/ marxists and give us another candidate like JFK, and you'll win. I might even vote for him/her. But America will never elect an extreme leftist muslim sympathizer. Ain't gonna happen.
Obama is talking about tapping the Strategic Oil Reserve on the same day that Iran talks about closing the Straight of Hormuz, where much of the world's oil ships through.  Obama obviously doesn't understand the purpose of the Strategic Oil Reserve!   The only thing consistent about Obama is his poor judgement and decision-making.
What a good time to go on vacation when the president would be more interested in the Olympic Games rather than what Obama is doing.
