Veepstakes: Ferraro at it again

Posted: Monday, August 04, 2008 9:11 AM by Domenico Montanaro

Geraldine Ferraro is at it again -- this time over Clinton as VP. She claims Obama won't be "gracious" if he doesn't offer her the slot.

Kudos to Bill Kristol for writing a very readable and interesting VP speculation column about McCain -- while also leaving himself wiggle room on who could get picked.

More compiled by Matthew Berger and Carrie Dann…
The McCain camp is unsure when to announce its veep choice, but it’s more likely to wait for Obama to go first. Advisers believe waiting until after Obama’s Invesco Field speech on Aug. 28 will allow the campaign to shift focus to them quickly before their convention. “We’d be stupid to pick before they do,” one advisor told Politico. Newsweek’s Michael Isikoff says the Obama campaign is now planning to make their veep announcement the week before the Denver convention, because the short list is more fluid than generally thought.

REPUBLICANS: The candidate du jour is Rep. Eric Cantor, who was asked to provide McCain with personal documents. He is a prominent Jewish Republican and a young fiscal conservative with House leadership experience.

Former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge says he’s still pro-choice, but doesn’t think that precludes him from being McCain’s veep. “I would think John would never make it a litmus test, but when it comes down to a nominee selecting a vice presidential running mate, it’s their decision exclusively,” Ridge said on “This Week.” “And I would respect that decision one way or another.”

Former Rep. Rob Portman said he hasn’t been vetted. “I think the whole VP thing is a little bit overrated,” he said on “Late Edition.” “It's important, but maybe the media is giving it a little bit more importance than it deserves.”

DEMOCRATS: Speculation has grown about Sen. Evan Bayh, because Obama will be in Indiana on Wednesday. Sources told Howey Politics Indiana that “details appear to be different than a normal presidential candidate visit.” And apparently if you type in obamabayh08.com, you get redirected to the DNC’s site. That doesn’t happen with other potential running mates, but a DNC official says whoever bought the domain name just chose to redirect it, and its not an official party site.

Kaine endorsed Joe Lieberman in 2004 in the primary over John Kerry and John Edwards. Said Kaine at the time: “Joe is the right person to revive the Harry Truman wing of the Democratic Party, which has traditionally been strong for national defense, strong for the economy and strong for equal opportunity.” Kaine's hometown paper offers a lengthy description of his political style. Allies say that he's a compromiser who believes in bipartisanship and sunny optimism; opponents note a partisan streak with a penchant for stalemate.

Nancy Pelosi again pushed Rep. Chet Edwards on “This Week.”

I can't believe that she is still at it.  Ms. Ferraro, while you have done great things for the cause of feminism, at this point you are simply becoming an embarrassment.

Geraldine who?
Alert the media---------I hearby declare that Ferrero will be ungracious from the time she opened her mouth----------------
Does anyone truly believe that Geraldine Ferraro  is going to have ANY influence over Barack Obama? PLEEZE! She's a washed up has-been and nothing she says makes any difference. She shoukld crawl back under the rock she came from.

Geraldine, SHUT UP!!

You make my ears bleed.
I'm beginning to think that Old Geraldine Ferraro is bought and paid for by the RNC.  Look for her on Fox this week spewing this nonsense and non-issue to gin up controversy on the Veep subject.  Her personal vendetta against Obama is pathetic and I really think that her and Lanny Davis need to get a room.
Do Clinton supporters really believe that bullying and threatening is the way to get what they want?  Apparently so, and it's a sad situation.  Now if they "sit on their hands" and refuse to support the Democratic nominee, it will NOT be their right to say, "I told you so!" if Obama should lose in November.  You only have that right if you actively participate and VOTE!
I still like long shots like Edwards and Huckabee for VP.  Very Long shots. lol http://www.VeepPeek.com
When is Newsweak going to grow up? They must have 10 year olds working on their staff. It certainly has become the magazine for morons.

========================
Not to worry; about 25% of HRC supporters are voting McCain.
Mrs. Ferraro, please stop trying to bring up old, dead issues that only reminds us of how old and dead your mindset is. Hillary is not going to be the VP. So zip your mouth, leave the issue alone, take a valium or have a drink with the so-called PUMA losers.

If you want to have a "Hillary Not Going to be VP Pity Party", do it on your own time!

OBAMA/BIDEN 08/12
Not to worry; about 25% of HRC supporters are voting McCain.
****************************
Then it's a vote out of spite and not out of reason!
Obama jocks never want to hear the details or discuss anything that may have a negative overtone but the latest gallop polls show that Obama and McCain are very close.

Democrats seem to think that the election is a done deal (and I can understand why) but the fact is, Obama has not been elected and the race is just warming up.

And in this time when Democrats should be getting together you see these nasty sort of posts about Geraldine Ferraro because she speaks an opinion held by many in the party.  If you don't agree with her....fine....that's acceptable...but why the nasty tone?  Who's vote does that help earn for the party...for America?

Clinton does strengthen the ticket...it's a fact.  You may not like it, but try to learn the art of political civility and show some respect to those that have done more for the Democratic cause than your blogs will ever do.
Not to worry about - 25% of republicans will vote for Barack Obama, because they are ashame of John McCain and don't agree with his BS ads and him not having any real policies to change America for the better.

Thank you and GOD BLESS AMERICA
When did Geraldine Ferraro become a Republican?

"Not to worry; about 25% of HRC supporters are voting McCain.
Obama: CHANGE you can rely on DAILY "

If that's true, than all I can say is those 25% deserve all they are going to get from McCain!  Nothing except more war, more money going to the wealthy, women without the same salary as men, an extremely conservative supreme court, more money going over to China to pay for the war, more drilling for oil, more global warming, no choice for women, soldiers not being eligible for college education so they have to stay in the service, more breaks for big business, etc. etc.  Unfortunately, the rest of us will have to suffer along with them just like when they all voted for Bush!!!  Are people really that thick that they don't realize when McCain says continue the Bush tax cuts he means mainly for the wealthy? And when Obama talks about going back to the tax code that was in effect when Clinton was president, it means tax cuts for people making under $250,000????   America is truly headed for trouble!
Geraldine is some dumb broad.  And Silly Hillie is the Pillsbury Doughgirl.  Go home both of you.  I just flat don't like either one of you and wouldn't vote for you if you did bake.  Barack Obama is going to be elected with or without Mrs. Bill Clinton.  I will watch the democratic convention but I will not listen to Hillie.
You only have that right if you actively participate and VOTE!

uwj NY....

What a great set up.  So if Obama doesn't win it will not be because he failed to convince enough of the electorate to vote for him...it will be the fault of the Clinton supporters.

Get over yourselves.  I supported Clinton because I thought she was the stronger canditate, has a better view of the ways of the world but now she is out and I hope hope Obama wins.  But if he doesn't it will be nobody's fault but his own.

Obama needs to find the way to build the Democratic Party and represent the interests of all that make up that party.  If he does, he will win and he will rightfully get the credit for the win.  If he doesn't he will lose and rightfully will be credited with the loss.

Ferraro is a bitter old has been.  The entire Clinton camp has been disengenuous about supporting Obama and it is discusting.  I know they are hoping for Obama to lose so she can run in 2012.  They are tearing apart the party for their personal interests, and I used to respect Bill more than anyone else in politics.  So sad ...
i want them to vote for MCcain..so in 2012...payback time..they need to grow up..he looses and she looses in 2012
Who cares about Geraldine? Look she was at best a weak legislator and advocate who was picked as Mondale's running mate because of her gender. Her performance as a VP running mate was dismal. She was a bigot back then and time has not changed her. She is less than irrelevant and I wish MSNBC would find something else to talk about.

You HillSuporreally have a lot of gaul to tell Obama supporters to "get over" themselves.

I personally don't understand your love affair with her, but to each his/her own.  However, you HillSupporters are the ones who are still fighting a war that's already over.  Do you REALLY think the Dems are going to nominate Hill at the convention?  Do you think continuing to try and bully your way on to the ticket is helpful?

Bullying is the MO of the GOP.  Is that the legacy you really want "your girl" to have?
Question is there a risk of having two senators from the midwest on the ticket for the democrats (Obama and Sen. Evan Bayh (Ind.) )???
This is so sad.  Can we change our blood relations because we disagree?  Should we destroy our political party because we disagree?  If Hillary had won, would her supporters want the Obama supporters bullying her decision? Threatening not to vote for her or worse, voting for McCain?  This is so silly.  Win, lose or draw, I'm a democrat and I vote Obama!
Regardless of Geraldine Ferraro's comments and motives. The truth is Hillary Clinton is the best choice for running mates. The polls and David Gergen say so and that is good enough for me.
Chuck Todd who??
I thank God every day that Geraldine never became VP of the USA--she is an angry, evil, resentful femanazi.
Sorry Flip Wilson's gone as he did a better "Geraldine" than Ferraro does.  Now hear this!  Hillary Clinton or any other candidate that didn't make it is owed nothing, repeat nothing.

Sorry Bill didn't take Ferraro to Africa with them, but hey, why scare the bejesus out of a whole continent.  A nothing in 1984 and even more of a nothing in 2008.  Go home, shut up!
What a great set up.  So if Obama doesn't win it will not be because he failed to convince enough of the electorate to vote for him...it will be the fault of the Clinton supporters.

I'm glad that you're supporting Obama now that the primary is over.  It's troubling that so many Democrats are still in primary mode and using whatever publicity/leverage they have to voice opinions like Ferraro's which only serves to drive a wedge in our party.  You're right, it's up to Obama to beat McCain in November.  But he's getting plenty of negative attacks from the Republicans without his own party doing the same thing.
After HRCs primary campaign, she is lucky she is still a registered Democrat. She lied and employed tactics not worthy of an American citizen. She has all the qualifications of running for VP for the republicans.
Please tell that old woman to go back to her medication. After all, she was a VP in 1984 and she does nothing to the ticket.

Feraro is a looser
If feminism is supposed to be screechy and haughty and harsh, okay maybe Geraldine's got the right profile. Last time I checked, the Goddess was a woman of joy, mirth, nurture, warmth, and stern integrity. She's the kind of divine feminine who can sneeze or roll over in bed and half of us will be gone if we don't take better care of her planet. Let's face it, feminism isn't what it used to be.
I personally don't understand your love affair with her, but to each his/her own.  However, you HillSupporters are the ones who are still fighting a war that's already over.

This war with obama isn't over until Nov ! If she isn't on the ticket,he WILL lose ! 25% is a hell of a lot of disinfrancised dems ! enough so to cost him the election. He has the chance to win but thats only if Hill is with him. Let's just see how smart he is ?
Why isn't John Kerry being considered for VP?  I think he would be a good choice for Obama.
What Ferraro and the rest of Hillary's backers are trying to do is sick. They are the ones that need to get over this BS. She will not be the VP and it's not because Obama don't want to. It is becuase of Bill and the mess that cames out of his mouth. No one really believe that Bill is a racist. But if you really look at the facts. Bill and Hillary just gave up on the blacks and as we know from her mouth that her backers are the "Hard working whites", with no education. What about the blacks and other groups of people, are they not hard workers also. So when she just started to focus on one type of people and that was them "Hard working whites", they made it racial. She said many of times, "He can't win". That was the code for becuase he is black. We are not dumb and I'm tried of these sick people trying to pull the wool of our eyes. We can see, read and hear. Someone need to drop McCrazie and Ferraro off at the ol'folks home, they both are lossing there mind.....
Bill Kristol doesn't merit Kudos, he merits leg irons.
How can one of the most prominent Neo-Con "thinkers" and strategists be taken seriously. It is very frustrating living in a country that refuses to recognize it's mistakes and there-by improve itself. We are hopelessly relegated to parading around naked while proclaiming the beauty of our garments as the rest of the world bites it's tongue to keep from laughing.
I am just wondering who is watching and listening to Ferraro still.  Does anyone take her seriously still?  I am beginning to think that she does this only to be heard, and so people still know that she is still alive.

As for the other VP choices, then it is still so fluid that it is anybody's guess until it happens.  I think that Rep. Cantor from VA isn't going to make it as the VP choice for McCain.
Dear Chuck and NBC (National Barack Channel):

Ripping Gerry Ferraro and her support for Hillary Clinton is not the best way to try to increase Barack's declining poll numbers
I think many Clinton supporters hope Obama doesn't win so Hillary can run in 2012. BUT, I know MANY dems who say - if that happens she will be TOAST, as they will see it as sabatoge this year.
Geraldine Ferraro - go shut your face!!!

Hill said that she had 8,000,000 cracks in the ceiling. NOT!  Don't discount the millions that voted her because of RUSH and his plan to have her win so the REPs. could rally against her, or the other million that were not comfortable with having a multi-racial president, or the million that voted for her because they USED TO LIKE BILL, or the million that voted for her because of name recognition only.

Hillary ran a flawed campaign and is still in debt for running when it was clear she lost.  However Mr. Obama has managed to stay out of debt and above the frey the entire time.  She lost fair and square.

If the Hill supporters want to vote for McInSane OUT OF SPITE: be careful what you wish for, you just may get it... and if you are a woman or have daughters - may the LORD have mercy on your BAD DECISION THAT WILL HAUNT US FOR DECADES.
Geraldine Ferarro should be banned from speaking or writing in public  She is , however, a good example of who should not be a vp candidate (followed closely by Joe Lieberman) Her legacy now is her racisct comments ( however she denies him) Now she seems willing to help Mc Cain become president and risk the overturn of Roe V Wade. She either does not understand or care about feminism or women's issues.
She is a joke, but a very sad one.
"Not to worry; about 25% of HRC supporters are voting McCain."

And yet, he's still behind.  Says a lot about him, huh?

BTW folks, don't forget- the repuks wanted Hillary to be the nominee because they felt that would be their best chance to win '08.   'Y really want her on the ticket that bad?

To steal one from Back To The Future-  "Come on. McFly- THINK!".
If the Hill supporters want to vote for McInSane OUT OF SPITE: be careful what you wish for, you just may get it...

and if you are a woman or have daughters - may the LORD have mercy on your BAD DECISION THAT WILL HAUNT US "ALL" FOR DECADES.
That Ferraro is just as dispicable to the Dems as Ann Coulter is to the Repugnants.

OBAMA/BIDEN, 2008!
" I'm beginning to think that Old Geraldine Ferraro is bought and paid for by the RNC." --Lana, California

There is no doubt in my mind. They have done it before. For instance, they were contributing to Al Sharpton's presidential campaign.
