Obama mocks 'drill here...drill now'

Posted: Tuesday, August 05, 2008 11:56 AM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC/NJ's Mike Memoli
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Obama said McCain is taking a page from the “Bush-Cheney playbook” on energy, saying his only solution is to drill anywhere and everywhere for oil.

“That’s what he talked about yesterday, ‘I want to drill here. I want to drill now,’” Obama said, quoting McCain talking in Sturgis, S.D. “I don’t know where he was standing. I think he was in a building somewhere. This plan will not lower prices today; it won’t lower prices during the next administration.”

He did say that increasing domestic production “has its place,” but that oil companies should be forced to use all of the land they currently lease before expanding it. Obama also repeated much of his energy platform announced yesterday, again claiming McCain’s support for offshore drilling preceded a boon in contributions from energy executives.

“After one president in the pocket of the oil companies; we can’t afford another,” he said. “For the sake of our economy, our security, and the future of our planet, we have to end the age of oil.”

Speaking in the Buckeye State, Obama also treaded carefully when an audience member said he was tired of seeing old lawmakers deciding policy for new generations. The man did not mention McCain, but Obama, now 47 years and one day old, recognized it was a “kind of tricky question for me.”

“You know I've got colleagues in the Senate who are doing just outstanding work and they're well into their 70s and they've got incredible energy,” he said, specifically mentioning Sen. Ted Kennedy. He also said he thought term limits could shift a balance of power to lobbyists. “And so my attitude is, I'm less concerned about what age folks are than what are they doing. And if they are not looking out for your interests, then it's time to throw the bums out.”

Now you're talking Obama!  Smack McCain!

Start making this joke that John Kerry made and you'll win in a landslide:

http://strategy08.wordpress.com/2008/08/05/whaaa-john-kerry-makes-a-damn-good-funny/
So which is Obama? Are you for drilling, or against it? We can't possibly find out by your record in the Senate because 1) You don't have one and 2) Reid won't schedule a vote. It's different when you have to go on the record isn't it Obama?
"And if they are not looking out for your interests, then it's time to throw the bums out.”

Doesn't that account for most of Congress? What, exactly have they done that is looking out for our interests? Seems to me it's politics as usual in Washington! Things have got to change.
Did anyone see McCain talk in front of a crowd yesterday? It was the funniest thing I've ever seen, stumbling over his words; he could barely string a sentence together. Isn't it about time that we have a president who can talk?
Eh, Barack, that land you want to 'force' oil companies to drill on has no oil on it. And 'force' is quite the word to use. What else should our government 'force' us to do?
http://twocanpete.blogspot.com
Where does this guy think we get oil form? The oil fairy! Not only do we need to drill now we need to have an independent, third party, inventory of just how much oil is actually in this country and whether or not the oil companies are holding back as many suspect.
As usual, Obama is terrific at telling us what to do, but comes up real short on how to do it. I guess he's depending on the Energy Fairy to come down and wave her magic wand to produce all this energy we need. And for you people that care, the Energy Fairy looks a lot like Nancy "I'm here to save the planet' Pelosi.
Did he just give his approval for throwing Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid out?
We will drill.  Drill we will.

We will drill here.  We will drill there.

We will drill everywhere.

Drill drill drill.

Yes we will.

I like to drill for oil.  For oil I like to drill.

I like to drill now.  I like to drill later.

Drill we will.

When ever I'm at the gas pump I'll try to remember Obama mocking the idea of using our own natural resources to solve our energy problems. I'll figure at least half of what I'm paying for gas is because this rock-head from Illinois is so sold out to the Greens.
"“And so my attitude is, I'm less concerned about what age folks are than what are they doing. And if they are not looking out for your interests, then it's time to throw the bums out.”

It is PAST time to throw the bums out - the Republican Party has made a mockery of American democracy and the "free press".

No matter who is elected, the damage is done will take DECADES to reverse.
"Obama, now 47 years and one day old ..."
--Yes, I think the media should keep track of the specific age of the candidates right though the eleciton (that's sarcasm).  By election day, Obama should be, what, 47 and 96 days old +/-.  I don't know what I would do, if it were not for the media letting me know how many seconds John McCain has graced this planet.
Teddy pick out a drool cup yet?

McCain is unfit to be president.
Insane in the McCain Brain!

What Happened?
This is a must-watch video, recorded from at least three different angles. (From a John McCain media availability in Panama City, FL held on Friday, August 1, 2008.)

I like when my leaders mock my choosen stance on an issue. It makes me want to vote, . . . , for someone else!
Obama needs to continue to hit McCain on this energy issue.....especially AFTER Labor Day when more people will be tuning in to what the candidates are saying. McCain has no energy plan other than to drill (which is a joke in itself). He's taken on the drilling like hispast "gas Tax" holiday that he never talks about anymore because people saw that it was a gimmick. So is drilling. Obama can win this argument, but he has to keep hammering away at McCain on this issue.
Now you are being fair in reporting on the two candidates. Why does it take people to complain to get through? Lets just see how long it will last. Nice job and thank you so much.
McCain in an Elementary school: "Drill here, drill now!!"...lol
Shortly after Bush took office, the energy companies (Enron, Dynergy...) robbed us BLIND in California

De-regulation my foot

The Bush Admin just stood and watched

Time to break up the Energy monopolies
Tuurn ExxonMobil into Exxon and Mobil
There's been so many mergers that we have an oligopoly in energy

That's the oil cartel, no OPEC

This on the heels of Pelosi saying Democratic congresscritters can vote how they please on new drilling. Don't Pelosi and Obama ever talk? There's a real diconnect between those two.
Throwing "McBum" out s/b our slogan, or more to the point shooting McBum down and putting him in an OLD folks home before he embarresses himself (and the country) and does even more damage to his legacy as an "honorable man" and former POW.  Whose the real celebrity here, McBum's claim to fame is his POW status.  The guy wouldn't be a household name BUT FOR is being a former hostage!
Imagine if Obama had said or done this:

Topless in Sturgis

Meanwhile at a biker rally in Sturgis, South Dakota, John McCain appears to have volunteered his wife for a topless beauty pageant:

McCain felt so comfortable at the event that he even volunteered his wife for the rally’s traditional beauty pageant, an infamously debauched event that’s been known to feature topless women.

“I encouraged Cindy to compete,” McCain said to cheers. “I told her with a little luck she could be the only woman ever to serve as first lady and Miss Buffalo Chip.”

As a reader emails, "Miss Buffalo Chip has 'been known to feature topless women' in the same way that Guns and Ammo magazine has been known to feature firearms." Indeed, an ESPN.com columnist describes it as "occasionally bottomless
yes Obama. Lets throw the bums aka Republicans out. I couldn't agree more. Now that is playing hard with the republicans. About time and keep it up.
GoBama 08 !!
That would have been real presumptuous, drilling for oil through the floor of a building, kinda of like Moses parting the waters. Sounds like McCain is getting uppity in his old age.
hammer meet nail!  Great response.

As for Obama's response and not knowing exactly where Mc-CooCoo was standing when taking about drilling, "I think in a building"... absolutely hysterical!!
That's it O, keeping punching away. Don't become a Kerry. Let him have it right between the truths. We are killing our ability to survibe on this planet. The planet will do just fine. It will reorganize and new life forms will come from mutations and the ones left standing won't look like us. We need to get off our duffs and make some changes that are real and permanent. Let us be the example to follow again. As we saw in Europe , the world is watching, they are anxious for us to set the example and create a new way of living that gives the terrorists no reason to fight. If we hadn't helped Osama become who he is and had stayed off the Arabian peninsula much of this could have been avoided.

Why is it a this or that thing with energy?
Why can't we drill for more Oil and move to new sources of energy at the same time?
I don’t buy the "It will take 10 years to get the oil" argument. So what we will need it whenever to comes out of the ground. and I think we could develop alternative sources of energy that could rival Oil.
A 'pro-lynching anthem' ???
From a McCain backer ?
Will John 'reject and condemn' ?

Lynching Advocate Toby Keith: Obama Acts White To Win

posted by Max Blumenthal on 08/05/2008 @ 02:25am

Last week, I reported for the Huffington Post that country singer Toby Keith had performed a pro-lynching anthem on the Colbert Report, and would be playing the same song soon on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and a slew of nationally televised talk shows.

The lyrics of Keith's song, "Beer For My Horses," which I transcribed, could hardly be less explicit -- "Hang 'em high, for all the people to see." In my piece, I also noted the racially tinged nature of the song's video and the forthcoming movie that Keith's song inspired....'

After reading Obama's full energy policy, I think that this is a clear sign of his inexperience.  The policy has more holes in it than most government policies.  About the only things that make sense in it are ideas shared by McCain.  I don't mean to suggest that these a republican ideas, just that they are obvious common sense ideas.
McCain's website has an interesting section on his energy plans and policies.

Obama is a liar.  He gets more arrogant and condescending every day and monotonous on his criticism of McCain regarding energy.  Keeps repeating the same old false mantra.

Too bad.  For about a week last year, he seemed different.
Throw the bums out! How many of us have said the same thing over the years. Obama understands. He speaks our language. And he knows that while running and if elected he will have to compromise and perhaps even change some positions slightly in order to serve the Amercian people as they wish to be served. If not then he would be thrown out as well. He knows this and that is what makes him the right choice for President. McCain is too rigid to understand this. And it beats "do it my way or the highway characters" as Bush and McCain and others who think they are above the wishes, desires and best interests of the American people.
Sen. McCain has informed all the big oil companies including Exxon-Mobil, Shell, BP & Chevron that if they can contribute upwards of $10M to his campaign, when he's President, he will grant them permission to drill at the Rose Garden, the Pentagon and other federal sites of their choosing.

On a serious note, did anyone catch Anne Korin on C-Span last night. She is co-director for the Institute for the Analysis of Global Security. I believe she leans right but she has a non-partisan view to solving the energy crisis through diversification.
She is brilliant folks. I hope Barack gets her on his Energy Policy team.
"Drill, drill, drill" is the Repiglican mantra these days, somehow now a panacea for everything that's wrong in the economy.  But Obama's right; it won't lower gas prices any administration soon.  PLUS, Big Oil hasn't seen fit to cut into their obscene profits to build refineries to refine all this wonderful oil they'll be spilling---oh, sorry, taking---out.  So they'll just have to raise prices to pay for the refineries. It's no solution.
Obama didn't bite on the age question. He can and will stay positive regarding age.  Obama will win on the energy issue, the housing issue, and the war. Back to the debates...I'm not surprised both candidates are sitting. McCain can't stand that long or he might pass out. The choice of moderators shows who is first string and who are bench warmers. Glad to see Stephanopolis, Gibson, Matthews, andFox News sitting on the bench. Sitting or standing, Obama will beat on McCain like a drum.
"It's time to throw the bums out."

Awesome.  He sounds like Mickey Goldmill.

Sen. Obama is losing and now wants to use the strategic oil reserve.

That reserve exists for America's national security strategy — not for Obama's election strategy. The last release of oil from the strategic reserve came in response to Hurricane Katrina, but the only crisis that has developed since Obama last rejected this idea 28 days ago is a slide in his poll numbers.

NObama for sure.
Give it to him Barack Baby! Yes we should throw their bums out if they don't deliver on doing their jobs!
If any of you are tired of G.O.P. talking points on your television, do like me turn your cable off.  After all the lies and propaganda to go to war with Iraq, I turned my t.v. off.  You pay to hear propaganda and republicant talking points.  I refuse to pay to be lied to over and over.

If enought people turned off their cable in protest of propaganda, the networks would start having real news to get viewers back.

Vote with your pocketbook.  Turn your cable off. Stop putting your money in Republicants hands.
Keep hammerin' Barack . . . and don't forget to continue to tell people about conservation, something McCain doesn't understand. Yes, tire gauges do work, so does programmable thermostats, shutting off unused lights, driving slower, tune-ups, more insulation in homes, alternative energy, etc.

Conservation can make an impact NOW . . . not 10 years or more for new oil drilling & nuclear plants (still no safe way to store it) that will only lead to more unsafe environmental conditions and money in the pockets of big business.

"Speaking in the Buckeye State, Obama also treaded carefully when an audience member said he was tired of seeing old lawmakers deciding policy for new generations."

This is such a valid concern though. We are at a technological crossroads right now with respect to new energy techniques, and the last thing I want is someone in power who's only now learning how to "work the Google." McCain is out of touch, he's an old school thinker. We need someone who has a deeper, more fundamental understanding of the technologies of this new century.
Bomber only spoke up in favor of  drilling after he got paid 1,1 million by the oil family.before he was against it,I also think there should be age limits on elected officals, some of these guys have been there so long they forgot who they represent, and work for them selfs and try to play the system for all it's worth, and if anyone knows how to play the system it's 26 year veteran John McCain.Keating 5 Saving and loan scandle comes to mind!
Obama handled the age issue well. Its not about chronological age, its about mental age.

There are some 30 year olds who act and think as if the 1950s were the hey-days and that Donna Reed is a role model.

There are some 70 year olds who see the future & know what needs to be done to secure it.
Barack is right to point out how silly McCain's statements are. Maybe if the MSM started reporting the crazy statements that McCain constantly makes the public will see how foolish of a candidate he really is. I generally have respect for MSNBC but have lost a lot of it because of shows like MOURNING JOE. Rachel Maddow should be ther instead !!!!!!!!!!!
Well I have said this a lot. But......HAS ANYONE NOTICED THAT MCCAIN HAS NOT WORN A FLAG PIN IN AT LEAST 4 MONTHS? JUST GO BACK AND LOOK AT PICS AND VIDEO CLIPS. NOTHING THERE FOLKS.

MCCAIN NOT WEARING FLAG PIN (Sent Tuesday, August 05, 2008 12:32 PM)

That's because we know John McCain is a true American hero and patriot. With Obama, we're not so sure.
Just to correct some misinformation that keeps popping up on here about plug-in hybrids/electric cars...

In 2006 the Department of Energy released a study that stated there is enough "off-peak" electrical capacity on the existing grid to power 84% of the country's 220 million vehicles if they were plug-in hybrids.

While some critics have pointed to increased grid congestion and power outages as an obstacle to plug-in hybrids, the DOE report supports the argument of plug-in advocates: most people would plug their cars in at night, when the grid produces surplus electricity.

By the way, it only takes 10 minutes to recharge a plug-in's battery.

To read the study, "Impacts Assessment of Plug-In Hybrid Vehicles On Electric Utilities and U.S. Power Grids," go to:

OBAMA:  I'm less concerned about what age folks are than what are they doing. And if they are not looking out for your interests, then it's time to throw the bums out.”

Well, Obama, then they should have thrown you out. How were you watching out for anybody's interest when you worked 143 days (4.5 months) out of the last 2+ years????
OBAMA MOCKS 'DRILL HERE...DRILL NOW'

Whereas if McCain had said the same thing that Barack said, Mccain would be using Humor. Just another indifference the MSM chooses to use in thier ongoing Love Affair with Mccain.

Get a Room, why Doncha?
OBAMA:  After one president in the pocket of the oil companies; we can’t afford another,” he said. “For the sake of our economy, our security, and the future of our planet, we have to end the age of oil.”

Mr Obama, what will you do about heavy equipment that requires diesel and what about jet planes?  How will we fly and do heavy work with no oil based products?   You say we have to end the oil age.  So, is that part of your plan re: strategic reserve?  "Let's just run it all out."  I know tha tyou have a high opinion of yourself, Mr. Obama.  However, I believe T Boone Pickens MIGHT have a little more insight into the oil industry than you. He says we MUST drill for everything we can or gas will be $8-10 in less than four years.  What will you do for us then, Mr. Obama?  You see, we won't wake up one day and say the oil spigot is off. People have brand new cars that need to run on gasoline.  Are yo ugoing to buy back those cars from them and give them a hybrid?
Obama is being very dishonest that drilling now will not cause immediate lower costs at the pump. A significant driving factor of the price of oil is the trading of futures. If we begin drilling now this will impact oil futures and cause a significant and immediate drop in the price of oil.
