Day 4 of House under siege

From NBC's Mike Viqueira
Republicans continued their occupation of what is normally a demilitarized zone this time of year, the House chamber.

To freshen things up, they brought in a living echo of revolutions past, former speaker New Gingrich, to lend his heft to the effort. Gingrich spoke briefly on camera in support of the Republican contention that the mere announcement of expanded offshore drilling would drive down prices in the short term. He also took a slap at Nancy Pelosi for spending August on tour to promote her new autobiography instead of working here in D.C. to solve this nation's energy problems.

After their presser outside of the chamber Republicans marched in to commence their speechifying. They are getting logistically more organized, as the place is packed right from the start this morning with tourists, interns, and staff. Applause and cheers can be heard coming through the cloakroom doors as one walks the halls.

Inside, it is an unusual spectacle. Instead of standing at a rostrum and speaking into a microphone, as we have all grown accustomed to seeing when the proceedings are televised, members pace back and forth in the well speaking at the top of their lungs. Cheers from the balconies punctuate their oratory, a display that is expressly forbidden during a normal, formal session. The thing has a kind of 19th Century feel to it.

They plan on continuing at least through the end of the week, and perhaps into next.

I see Nancy Pelsosi is #1454 in book sales this week. Right ahead of 'The Lost Art of Sewing', but right behind 'How to Cook a Walrus'.
This is exactly why the Democrats don't win the Presidency very often. Fran C., Springfield, MO (Sent Wednesday, August 06, 2008 9:36 AM)  Many of us Dems think we don’t win very often because our opponent will cheat and lie and rely heavily on the ignorance of their constituency or a big ole’ hefty WEDGE issue.  How many times this week has McCain said proper inflation was Obama’s Energy Plan?  At least a dozen.  They jump on an innocuous comment and then repeat it often enough that people who are too lazy, disenfranchised, exhausted or even stupid to research it believe it is fact.  It is MISINFORMATION and it is the lifeblood of the vampires.  It is deliberate and it is disgusting.  I was so happy to hear Obama say what we’ve all been feeling which is ‘…they take pride in being ignorant…’
Careful liberals. Elections turn on these types of issues.
they're children. they didn't get their way so now they're throwing a trantrum. as any parent will tell you, just ignore them and they'll tire themselves out.
The GOP is sounding more like frat boys.  To them everything is a game.  As Obama said:

"The GOPers like to take pride in being ignorant".

What did they do when they were in charge for over 5 years?
{Applause and cheers can be heard coming through the cloakroom doors as one walks the halls.}

Almost as if Obama was there. But this thing going on in the House is much more important then anything Obama could ever come up with.
It's unfortunate that the house Republicans failed to exert this much energy to pass legislation during the past 7 1/2 years.  Where were they when their efforts would have meant something?
How do we impeach Pelosi? And, how duplicitous of her to go on national TV and spout why SHE will not let OUR representatives votes. Yet, behind the scenes, she's telling Dems to "go against the party" and SAY they're for drilling to help them get elected.  How dishonorable can the Dems get?
This is the greatest show on Earth. And what a show it is. The growing energy crises didn't just appear in the past few months, but has been a threat for the past few years. These same Congress Members had no trouble taking vacations over the past 8 years when their seats were not at stake. To think that they suddenly care about the average Americans is a joke.
Cheering crouds?
HMMMMMM...........
the must be hitting a cord with some people.
Gingrich is so old news. He has nothing to say worth listening too. "The thing has a 19th century feel to it". I'll bet. The same old politics of yore. All these people need a prefontal labotomy and retired somewhere like The Sunny Valley Home for Oudated and Idiotic Politicians. It's time the Amercian people to tell these folks to get out of "OUR HOUSE".
The audience aren't the only ones cheering these men and women. America is cheering these individuals. They are the true Americans and the true American heros.
Pelosi. Campaign for new autobiography.  Campaign for V-P.

She'd get more attention if she was back in Washington.  #1402 on Amazon.  Already on sale for 32% off.  Jerome Corsi's "Obama Nation" #9.

The good news is that her DentuCreme endorsement will be renewed.

Obama/Pelosi '08
I guess when you haven't done anything for 8 years, the best time to start pretending is right before an election. And of all things, their big issue is offshore oil drilling. What a complete joke.

Let's see here...

Isn't the President, (The other guy with the power to call the congress back into session), and REPUBLICAN??!!

Don't BS us GOP, if you are serious, and not just staging a series of BS photo ops, why the hell isn't GWB calling you folks back into session??!!

Next Question; Are you folks going to be willing to come up with some compromise solutions if and when you get back into session??!! When Barack Obama proposed some solution compromises, you folks said he was "flip-flopping".

More of the same old ****!!
First Read....you forgot the t (New Gingrich)on Newt. Lord knows this old foggy isn't "new" to the Repukes....just the same old dog food they usually are trying to sell.
House Leader Pelosi, if you seek peace, if you seek prosperity for the United States, if you seek liberalization: Come here to this chamber! Ms. Pelosi, open this House! Ms. Pelosi, tear down this wall!
It looks like these republicans would rather talk to each other than go back to their districts and talk to their constituents. Their constituents are tired of their empty words.  They have had years to address this problem.  Now its...too late.  Time to update your resume and begin a job search...But who would hire a Representative who failed to do his or her job?
This is what low ratings for the republican image will drive them to. The republicans need to take a step back and look at their own voting record or lack of action that's led to this oil mess. It's the "too little, too late" syndrome. However, to take credit for lowering gas prices is presumptuous and arrogant.
Does any one think that these children are ready to compromise yet?  Or are they only insisting on only voting for all drilling, every where, all the time?

The adults are waiting for their temper tantrum to cease.

Obama 08
Showboating, grandstanding...call it what you will.  It's nothing more than the republican's manipulating the public once again.  They dont really want a vote, otherwise they would have appealed to Bush who has the power to call everyone back.  Anyone who believes otherwise is a naive fool and the worst kind of voter...a non thinking sheep.

These are the dying gasps of a failing party.  I wouldnt be suprised if the Repub party collapses in the next few years and rebuilds as something completely different.
"Keep the lights off". The Repukes had years to do something when the light were on. So now what's up?

And who the hell is Newt? Another X Speaker and Fox contributor. Was he railroad out of Georgia?

At least somewhere in Washington they are saving energy.
A 19th Century feel for a 19th Century party. It's sad that the party of Lincoln has become the party of Craig, Foley, Libby, Abrahamoff, Stevens, Bush, Cheney and Erik Rudolph.
This must be quite a sight to see. Where are CNN, Fox, MSNBC with their cameras to record this historic event? Where are Katie, and Brian, and Charlie, who followed Obama around like puppies in Europe, but can't show this countries representives trying to get work done for Americas citizens?
The entire Republican party, including the Bush-lite/Chain-heavy/McSame-gang, has a "kind of 19th century feel" to it!
I think they just need to go home it seems to me NO ONE CARES what they want now when they didn't seem to care for the last 30 years
Nice to see them finally willing to do some work. Of course they are not willing to work with Democrats to improve the lives of the American people which is what they were actually elected to do. No they have to engage in some theatrical stunt. Has anyone told them the American people are too busy trying to survive the economy to pay attention to this and the Olympics are on so no one is watching?
Will someone of you in the Media call them for the their election year 'drama show'???!!!

These guys are really insulting!!  They actually think that the American People are THAT stupid??!!!

These  IDIOTS don't care about anyone!!!
Typical Republican governing strategy - pace and yell until you get your way.

P.S. Why wasn't any of this done when they had control of Congress? What phonies.
Yes, because Gingrinch is SUCH an American hero.  These folks become any more out of touch with us normal folks, they will float right off the planet.
Maybe they should go home and explain to their constituents instead of the D.C. crowd why they have been just as unwilling to compromise as the congressional democrats. Oh that's right, it's just a publicity stunt.
The thing has a kind of 19th Century feel to it.
------
Yup, that would be the Repugs.  All 19th Century in their way of thinking.
Oh LORD!!!!! This is all for show we americans are no longer sleeping, not this time around not on this watch!!!!

Obama 08/12!!
"The Bush Administration estimates that expanded offshore drilling could increase oil production by 200,000 bbl. per day by 2030. We use about 20 million bbl. per day, so that would meet about 1% of our demand two decades from now."

This is nothing but a stunt.  The republicons are using this issue for three reasons:

1) It polls well because people don't know better.
2) The oil companies shove their pockets full of illegal donations.
3) It's something they know won't work, don't care if it passes, but just want to use it to score political points.

This is why I switched from Republican to Democrat.  After I started to pay attention I realized they don't offer the public a damn thing.  It's all about winning and keep their power and money.  It has nothing to do with actually trying to make our lives better with plans that work.
Hey, folks!  Why do you have the GOP convention on your map, and don't have the DEM convention in Denver?

"in support of the Republican contention that the mere announcement of expanded offshore drilling would drive down prices in the short term."  Wow - and they accuse Obama of having a Messiah complex!
It's going to be a bad day for these Republicans.

CNN is finally reporting on oil in North Dakota.  Remember the 1999 USGS showed there was more oil in the North Dakota and Montana region than anywhere else in the lower 48 states.  That's right, more oil than all of Texas.

Many people in ND are making thousands a day from these wells (and doing nothing) and oil companies can't drill fast enough.

Funny how the Republicans had full control of the Presidency and Senate from 2001-2006 and this was barely pursued.  In fact, they covered up this information while the oil companies profits have repeatedly broken all time highs for US companies.
A 19th Century feel?  How appropriate, most of these Republicantosauruses are living in the past anyway.

Their energy policy is 19th Century thinking; their health care plans, if you can call them that, date back to the days before union labor instituted such hyper-liberal concepts as the 40 hour work week and the ban on child labor.

a 19th Century feel?  I'll bet most of them feel right at home!
Bush signed an EO to allow offshore drilling, and oil went down 20% in two weeks. Congress needs to come back and make it real. Oil will then drop at least another 50% in price. Why the Left of this country can't understand how this all works is a real mystery.
BTW  If you want to know what taxes will be raised on people earning under 250K, the house committee on transportation wants to raise the gas tax at the behest of Washington lobbyists (Change?) for the construction industry.  Also, Senator Jughead wants a cap and trade carbon tax on energy suppliers to fund his $15B renewables fund.  I would also bet that the Medicare tax is going up that system IS broken.  So there is 3 and you $1000 rebate won't pay for them all.
Looks like Nancy Pelosi is too busy saving the planet to be bothered with her duties of House Leader.
Celebrity is as celebrity does!
Where have the republicans been for the last 7 years? They as well as their leader have done nothing.  Now they want the attention on them to make the public think that they are helping the people, excuse me but it is the republicans that have gotten us in this mess. The public is not stupid.
What the heck is the Democrats problem.GO BACK TO WORK AND DO YOUR DANG JOB!If Pelosi is still the speaker after this election year,we have a big problem.Get rid of her, send her back to liberal usa in california, but get back into session and pass the energy bill now.
looks like someone needs to find something for these people to do
Why didn't the Republicans make an effort about the energy crisis when they were in full control of the government?

All the Republicans can do is point a finger at the Democrats who barely have a majority do get anything done because of Republican obstructionism.

The Republicans are good at blaming everyone for the country's problems except themselves.

They didn't learn from the '06 mid-term elections and they'll get an even bigger lesson in the November elections.

Bye-bye Republicans . . . you had your chance and blew it big time!
Normally people may pay attention to this.  With the Presidential campaigns in full swing though, this is barely a blip on the radar.

If the Republicans are so excited to get this passed, why doesn't Bush declare an emergency session of Congress and order everyone back to work.  It seems odd to me that all the Republicans want to do is talk about the issue rather than actually force a vote on it.
Drill Drill Drill Drill

Bundle Bundle Bundle Bundle

Proud to be ignorant, and hoping you are too!!
If only they had cared this much about sending thousands of Americans of to Iraq to die in a senseless, pointless war...
Theatrics. Pretense. It's all the GOP are good at.
