Obama: Prime-time Bill Clinton

OK, it looks that the only Clinton not speaking at the Democratic convention is Chelsea, although we bet that changes soon. Bill Clinton “was offered an invitation to speak on Aug. 27, three senior Democratic officials said, before the address by the party’s vice-presidential nominee. The Obama campaign extended the offer on Thursday to Mr. Clinton, who accepted it.”

Per NBC’s Andrea Mitchell, Obama campaign officials insist it was never in doubt that Bill Clinton would speak, but it was only after Obama reached out and called the former president himself that a prime-time speech for Clinton was confirmed.

The Washington Post: "The Obama and Clinton camps said this week that they agree on a central point: They would like to avoid an embarrassing display of discord from Clinton's most ardent backers when the national convention begins in just over two weeks. Conversations about how to achieve that have increasingly focused on the question of whether Clinton's name will be offered in a roll-call vote by delegates to determine the nominee, even though she has said she is not challenging Obama's claim as the party's standard-bearer."

Chuck Schumer added to the voices of Democrats critical of Obama's response to the Paris Hilton-Britney Spears ad. "I thought the Britney Spears commercial was powerful," Schumer told the Politico... "They're trying to say, 'He's not one of us,'" Schumer said. "I would answer back hard. What do you mean he's not one of us? It's John McCain who wears $500 shoes, has six houses and comes from one of the richest families in his state." He added, "When they say, 'He's not one of us,' you don't say, 'Here's our plan on health care.'"

"With the existing 33,000 square feet on the 11th floor of a Chicago office building starting to feel like a crowded sweatshop, the campaign headquarters for Sen. Barack Obama is expanding," the Chicago Tribune reports. "On Thursday, the Democratic presidential campaign started moving into an additional 12,000 square feet of space in the same building."

I'll set my tivo!...this should be the historic event of the year...
Bill on Prime Time!...Won't ABC be pissed..
That'll satisfy the little ba$tard for awhile.. maybe.
I keep hearing that the radical Clintonites want her name put in roll call to show "how close she was".  Well, ignoring the ones that foolishly think she could actually be made nominee, there is one major flaw with that argument....  it's NOT going to be close.

You can pretty much bet every single Super Delegate will vote for Obama now, as will quite a few of Hillary's pledged delegates.  They aren't going to want to be seen as not supporting Obama.  They want to be on the nominee's side in this.  They aren't going to do anything to smudge their career options.

So what you'll just end up doing is having a vote that isn't even close to what it was.  It will just shine a light on the growing fact that this is no longer the party of the Clintons.  Which is why I doubt you'll see Clinton go along with it.
The conventions might be interesting. We'll have the Ron Paul supporters at the GOP shadow convention, and we'll have the Hillary Clinton supporters marching through the streets of Denver.

Oh the drama, drama, drama.
Why in the hell is Chelesa being considered to speak
at the convention?   Won't these Clintons EVER just
go away?   Their time has passed, come and gone!

NO MORE CLINTONS!

Finally, a fluff piece on Obama! We haven't seen too many of those from our media.
The squeaky wheel gets the grease -- it's too bad that the Democratic convention, instead of inspiring a new kind of democrat, is going to be held hostage to Pres. and Sen. Clinton.  Many people were eager for someone like Sen. Obama precisely BECAUSE they were tired of the Clintons and what they did to the party.
Chuck Schumer is secretly in love with Britney Spears. He likes her for her intellect, and she likes him for his quiet shyness. This will all start coming out after the election.
Bill C. got the 2am time slot for his speech. That helps him because it gives him a chance to thank his Chinese donors and not have to be on tape delay.
Ok.. great... can we now put this Obama-Clinton psuedo-controversy behind us?
I hate to say it, but I think he was invited to speak at the convention so that he can announce his wife as Obama's running mate.
I think Obama's doing the right thing in picking his battles. He's keeping the election from being about him. His focus needs to be on the fact that we're not as well off as we were 8 years ago and how he's the one that can help. Keep reminding people how McCain has contributed to their strife.

While I like Schumer, I think some of these nay-sayers aren't giving the American people enough credit. These Karl Rove tactics of garbage politics aren't going to find the welcome audience they've found in years past. 2006 showed us that.
Right now, what we want to hear is who Bill Clinton is going to introduce. I am afraid of what Obama had to give up to keep the Clintons from going ballistic on him. Without the right incentive who can guess what he might say. I sort of respect the clintons, not so much as before hillary giving the repubs so
many talking points. I guess she could be the bull dog Obama needs. OMG @ the baggage. Look at the republicans they are estatic whenever the clintons are mentioned, they are so hopful to use the dirt and
stink they have compiled on both the clintons.

Please say who the veep is.

With any luck the the Democratic Convention will turn into SummerSlam!
Regardless of how the masses of American's feel about Bill Clinton personally, I have him to thank personally for changing the direction of my life and my career with the governing of our nation during his two terms.

I went from making 11k a year from when he came into office to over 60k before he left.

I voted for his wife in the DemPrims, and she did not win, but I still have respect for them both for helping me better my life and family's life (I give a rat's @$$ about what went on or goes on in their personal lives). If this olive branch will help settle the drama between backers of the Clinton family and Obama supporters I am all for it.

We need to get behind Barack to make sure that the "keeping their pockets phat by any and all means" Republicans don't win the election in November for the White House.
John McCain has disgusted a lot of people (myself included) with his negative, ridiculous campaign. It amazes me that people continue to push Barack Obama to behave in the same manner.  He has responed to these ads, but he has not let them dictate how his campaign is run and he has not sunk to their level. I, for one, like having an adult run for President for a change.
straw poll on another network shows again this week mccain 70% obama 30%. This poll consistently shows McCain winning 2-1. They also register your vote by state, and McCain wins every state.  Now, some will say a "straw poll" isn't scientific.  True, it isn't. But, maybe Chucky T, can help us out with stats that show that those "better educated, wealthier" supporters of Obama are the ones most likely to be using the computer.  All the "sophisticated" polls have been all over the place for Obama. Yet, this straw poll EVERY WEEK has McCain winning 2-1.
I will be so glad when the Clinton's leave the building! Question is, will it ever happen?  The media needs to get tuff with them.  Then again, maybe they are afraid of the Clinton's.  I starting to believe the media is afraid of consequences from the Clinton's.  Things that make you go hum!
Obama: CHANGE you can rely on DAILY--if you really believe that McCain is winning two to one then I have some ocean front property to sell you in West Texas.
Bill Clinton is behaving like a petulant spoiled brat.  I was a huge supporter of him during his tenure as President, even through the Monica fiasco.  However, I've grown very tired of his behavior during this primary and pre-convention process.  He needs to settle down and act like the statesman he should be emulating as an elder member of the Democratic Party.

And, I think Chuck Schumer is right.  The swiftboating is an excellent example of what happens when you put yourself above Karl Rove's tactics.  He needs to be met in the gutter and kept there!  It certainly won't rub off on Obama to do so. People will understand why he stooped to their level, and it may make him look like a fighter who isn't going to take their nonsense!
Shouldn't TNT be covering the conventions? After all,

"They Know Drama"
Obama only asked Bill Clinton so he would not take any more heat. Obama is an arrogant, flipflopping, inexperienced puppet for the left. The democrats deserve to lose for picking the weakest candidate who is a fraud. The longer this campaign goes on, the more the American people see Obamas true colors. I supported Hillary, but now will vote McCain. McCain is a man of principal, honor, & experience that will bring real change to the white house. Not like Obama, the only change he brings is changing his mind on every issue. Good luck democrats with your puppet candidate.
