McCain: Reed a no-show at fundraiser

Posted: Tuesday, August 19, 2008 9:14 AM by Mark Murray

"McCain raised more than $1.75 million for Republicans Monday at a fundraiser that became high profile after a political operative connected to disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff promoted it. The event was promoted by Ralph Reed, former head of the Christian Coalition… Reed was not seen inside the hotel ballroom; a McCain campaign spokeswoman said he did not attend. But Democrat Barack Obama's rival presidential campaign sought to make him an issue, asking how much Reed-linked money was raised or would be kept by McCain's campaign.

Asked Obama spokesman Tommy Vietor: Will Senator McCain keep the money Reed has raised for him, and is Reed is a member of the McCain Victory 2008 team? If the McCain campaign won’t return the money Reed has raised for them, then voters should rightly ask why it matters that Reed didn’t show up at tonight’s event. The real question isn’t why Reed isn’t showing up, but why a so-called reformer would invite him at all,”

With McCain visiting an oil rig in New Orleans today, the DNC also has distributed an Exxon-McCain ’08 kit to reporters. Per the DNC, the kit includes “a limited edition Exxon-McCain ’08 stress ball in the shape of an oil drum (to help alleviate the stress of no longer getting access to the candidate) along with campaign buttons and bumper stickers.”

You will know them by their fruits of their labors...
For all that do HIS work walk in goodness and giving for all...
Hide the body and blame the other team, I guess if McCain would win, he would be the only one to show up for work in January, now that would save a lot of money.
Is this what they mean by smaller government?
Isn't this the same Ralph Reed who ran the campaign in South Carolina in 2000 that derailed McCain's run for President by falsely accusing McCain of having an affair with a black woman and accusing McCain's adopted daughters of being illegitimate children from that affair?

...and, of course, you mention the ties to Abramoff.

There's your "maverick" for you...John McCain 2000 would not vote for John McCain 2008!

I love McCain's statement that Obama is changing positions because of his ambition to be President.  Maybe he should look in the mirror and understand how many positions he's changed because HE wants to be President.

Hypocrisy, thy name is Republican!
Too bad, I would have loved some Reed/McCain photos, but I mean, is anyone surprised?

I like that the DNC is pushing back on him keeping the money. I think too often they let things like this fly off the radar.

What a joke McCain is!  Straight talk? To who?  He's not getting the press he wants, so he is taking his ball and going home.  Biggest darn 72 year old baby I've ever seen!

But not to worry.. Big Mamma Oil company Exxon to the rescue!  "We'll protect you from that nasty press corps.   Come home to FOX and I'll bake you some nice cookies and tell you some bedtime stories....you know about how great this War has been for us, and how great a shape the economy is.. and oh you know.. how being rich in America is making $5mil a year"...Doesn't McCain's wife spend that at the beauty shop?
Why is the DNC wasting money on these gimmick press kits. It's cute and all, but wouldn't resources be better spent on TV and mail? This is why I don't contribute to parties and PACs, only candidates.
The repubs are a bunch of running away rascals.

A stress ball. That's funny.

McCain is the SLIMIEST Creature I have ever seen.  We cannot let this Liar win.

If you want more pain, vote for Jon McCain !

Stockholm syndrome. Bush gave it to McCain in 200. Reed helped Bush. McCain is just identifying with his tormentors. This guy should not have his finger on the button.
Look, please print my message - I have no where else to get this exposed.  I just recently found out that not only did McCain cheat on his first wife, Carol with Cindy, whom he met in a bar in Hawaii;  but, one month before filing for divorce from Carol, McCain had already purchased a marriage license to marry Cindy.  What a guy, huh?  This guy McCain has no moral character.  I feel for Carol and the kids.  I don't care if this happened almost 30 years ago.  McCain keeps bringing up his military record -- which occurred OVER 40 years ago.  This guy McCain is a real loser.
OBAMA '08
A slimier more self-righteous character is so hard to find, too.  He is the perfect addition to McBlinky's campaign or support group....more of the same old RNC.  They can't keep dirt like this quiet enough.  Americans.....average work-a-day Americans cannot afford to have another out of touch republicant in office at this time of economic suffering.  Everyone of us know someone without health care or someone who's out of work due to the policies of these jerks.  Vote Obama.
Obama finds it so easy to critize McCain.  What until the RNC brings up some of Obamas favorite associates. Rezko (guilty on 16 felony indictments), Ayers (bombed pentagon and said he wished he had done more). Good ole Rev. Jeremiah Wright.  You all don't think we've seen the last of him now do you?

So before you all start looking at a couple of lobbyist look at Obamas associates and I bet you'll all have little to blog about.
From under what rock does Obama find these comment senders.  I know that we couldn't find them with a CSI detective when Billy Bob was jumping skirts in the Oval Office.  Come on you demo dipsticks, get a life!!
What Cheryl Wilson?  No Dems that you can think of who cheated on wife.  I can think of three.  Bill, John and Eliot!

Did you ever stop to think maybe the separation of 5 years was more than the marriage could stand?  Maybe they just fell out of love.  Divorce in U.S. in over 50% so my guess would be yes it possible.  Besides one point you neglect to mention is they are good friends and she is even supporting him in his Presidental run!!

Laura, Boston
