Obama goes back to Springfield

Posted: Tuesday, August 19, 2008 2:49 PM by Mark Murray

From NBC's Mark Murray
The Chicago Sun-Times' Lynn Sweet reports -- and First Read confirms -- that the Obama campaign has booked an event in Springfield, IL on Saturday. Springfield, of course, is the same place where Obama launched his presidential bid back in February 2007.

More from Sweet: "State of Illinois authorities have been asked permission by Obama folks to reserve the historic spot at noon. This does not mean that this is the time and place where Obama announces his running mate; that could happen any time from Wednesday morning on. Obama's time frame is shrinking, so the announcement is coming soon. The new vice presidential contender will jump on the road with Obama to showcase the new partnership. Springfield is a leg on the Obama roots tour."

*** UPDATE *** Per NBC/NJ's Athena Jones, Obama senior adviser Linda Douglass said: "What better place to do this than the place he launched his historic candidacy and campaign in February '07." But Douglass would not confirm Obama's running mate would be with him.

Pat Huntington NY: You are 100% correct!!
The next time I decide to take a trip (after DC in Jan. 2009), I've decided to take my granddaughters to Springfield, Ill. I have read that it's quite a place to visit. You can go to President Lincoln's home, his law office, The Lincoln Museum, his burial site and then take a bus to his log cabin.

Barack Obama/TBD 2008

All that............and about 200,000 slack-jawed red-necked yokels, as well as a couple of educated transplants.

All we need do as Democrats to win in November is to vote for the Nominee of the party and his choice of VP.

If we lose because  of "Democrat" cross over votes designed to make 2012 viable for Clinton then we will have all been stabbed in the back by people who should stop calling themselves Democrats. If a Clintonista is what you are then put the welfare of the nation aside and betray away. Then ponder what that will mean to your candidate in 2012.
This is setting up to be a Hillary Clinton SURPRISE pick. She is the native of Illinois and what's more powerful for Obama to pick a native of his home State. After all, Hillary impatience to wait for the Illinois Senate seat is what the gift Obama needed to be a Senator.
Older white women will decide this election and he won't win without picking Hillary. Picking her will be the show of respect they need to get aboard. I hope he realized that much looking at the tightening polls.
Personally, I would like to see Tim Kaine as VP. Great guy.
I like Joe Biden, he will be a good pick as long as someone tells him to put a cork in it, his mouth outruns his brain at times, otherwise good choice!
Does not matter who the VP is.  I will not vote for Obama.  I love this country and I think Obama would be a threat to democracy.  he wants Socialism and the New World Order.

Vote McCain
I wonder if this isn't some sort of launch for a journey to the convention? Would be a good place to announce a VP pick I guess, but I wouldn't take it for granted this is what will happen. But then again Obama does seem to have a skill in this kind of symbolism.
How about Senator Blanche Lincoln from Arkansas?? Imagine this: Obama / Lincoln on every bumper sticker and campaign sign. She is incredible, could help put Ark in play, help with female vote, southern vote, and the symbolism would be amazing!
Hey Jerry et al:  "If Republican warriors like Hannity and Matalin think so highly of Corsi's research into Obama, then perhaps we should take seriously Corsis scholarship about McCain. In recent articles at worldnetdaily.com, Corsi has claimed (among other charges) that the McCain campaign received strong financial support from a group tied to Al Qaeda and that McCains personal fortune traces back to organized crime in Arizona."

Here are some more lies you can spread... oh you wouldn't do that because it's about McCain....But still Corsi wrote them so they must be true.. right?
Pat Huntington NY -

Hillary is the only one who could fire up of the conservative and evangelical base.  Repub. voter turnout will exceed dems.
Too bad McCain can't be vetted.  I wonder about how much of his POW hero story is true.  He must have reasons to hide his military records.
After reading the comments to my post from yesterday, I think I have to explain myself. In hindsight my post probably sounded terribly "bitter" to you all.  My point was, and is, that in the last 2 presidential election cycles the under-30 crowd was "supposed to" seal the deal for Dems.  When election day came, turn-out among this group was dismal. Same goes for the over-all AA vote.  There are SOME districts where turn-out among both groups was good but, over-all they have let this Party down- repeatedly. obama seems to be putting all of his eggs in their basket. By contrast, the very groups that have been the core of this Party EVERY election cycle, are fleeing him in droves. He works so hard at welcoming voters at the front door, while so many of us are leaving out the back.
I like his insight here... Let's see if the republicans answer back with intelligence or hate.
