Surprise, surprise.

And the theme, "Country First"... as if Democrats put terrorism first or something.  Ugh.

BFF Lieberman speaking on Monday...here's a big "Thank You" to Connecticut for re-electing that schmuck!

Rudy Giuliani offering the keynote address...noun, verb, 9/11!  Hey, Rudy, since y'all will be there in St. Paul you can ask everybody in the Bush Administration why the masterminds behind the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon haven't been brought to justice!  Maybe you can ask John McCain why he'll go to "The Gates Of Hell" to get bin Laden but he won't go to Pakistan!
Who (9/11) but (9/11) the hero (9/11) of 9/11?

If only he'd been on the Forrestal in 1967, he could have made a speech after putting the fire out (and saving all those sailors).

What they should do is have their convention on an air craft carrier under a huge banner that says: SURGE ACCOMPLISHED (9/11 MADE IT NECESSARY).

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make Lieberman your VP prick and have Zell Miller speak right before Cheney.
The tale of two notes.

The first of which contained prayers for his family’s protection, a humble spirit, guidance, and G-D’s Will to be done, as written by Senator Obama, and left at the ‘Wailing Wall’.

The second full of filth, and vile schemes to terrorize Americans, in order to win the Presidency, was written by John McCain, and shines a bright light into the black hole that is his soul.

Thank you Beverly from Chicago for the following link to McCain’s note:

Rudy is a good man. A great patriot. He's done a lot for the country. Quite a leader as he showed during the 9/11 tragedy. The country needs more leaders like Rudy. We should all look forward to his speech. It will inspire.
Prosperity Day?????????????????????????
From the "First thoughs" thread:

Top Dog "Democrats can feel the race slipping away. At least the feeling is familiar to them, it's happened the last two prez elections."
----------------------------------------------------
It did happen before despite the fact that both Gore and Kerry were CLEARLY the  better candidates in the last two elections. The polls prove that the overwhelming majority of people now see that they were better than Bush.  Bush's approval rating is now below 30%. Bush has been such a disaster that even the low-information (ignorant) voters can see how wrong they were to have voted for him.

The media will keep the low-information voters that way, so there's no reason to think there isn't a good chance it will happen again. They WILL get fooled again.

"And, real nice C A, blame it on the "Ignorant" people."

Ignorant people ARE to blame -- along with the corporate media who kept them ignorant -- for the US being run by the incompetent G. W. Bush for eight years. Bush didn't just get into office by Supreme Court decree or anything (well, at least not in 2004).
Ooo...Arnold is speaking Monday night!  I wonder what Conan The Republican has to say this time?

Isn't he a big celebrity?
War Mongers  getting ready drag the country into another fiasco.
Wake up America.
How fortunate for McCain that he is not going to be upstaged by  Romney, Guilliani, and Huckabee, like Obama  will be by "someone else I know."  I am dreading the Clinton Tension Convention. Unfortunately, Obama will get no bounce from the Hill and Bill Show.
YAWWWWWWWWWWWN!! I'll probably look at the President for comic relief. Outside of that, it doesn't sound like an entertaining and inspiring lineup.
McCain/Saakashvili '08 (I mean, we're all Georgian's, right?)
What strikes me most is Pawlenty's name is absent and instead we see VP nominee...
Overall Theme: Country First

Right....

From John McCain's own book:

"I didn't decide to run for president to start a national crusade for the political reforms I believed in or to run a campaign as if it were some grand act of patriotism. In truth, I wanted to be president because it had become my ambition to be president. . . . In truth, I'd had the ambition for a long time.

That ambition led McCain into a moral lapse that appalled him. It involved an ongoing dispute in South Carolina over the tradition of flying the Confederate battle flag atop the state capitol, in Columbia. In a television interview, McCain said the flag was "offensive," and he appeared sympathetic to its critics. His aides were alarmed, fearing the consequences in the upcoming South Carolina primary, and they wrote a damage-control statement that McCain read repeatedly before television cameras. "I understand both sides," McCain said. "Some view the flag as a symbol of slavery. Others view it as a symbol of heritage. Personally, I see the battle flag as a symbol of heritage."

But that, McCain wrote a year later, was "a lie." The flag symbolized both slavery and the South's secession from "the country I love," and "should be lowered forever from the staff atop South Carolina's capitol."

"I had promised to tell the truth no matter what," McCain wrote in the book. "When I broke it, I had not just been dishonest, I had been a coward, and I had severed my own interests from my country's. That was what made the lie unforgivable."
_________________

So by McCain's own words he's said that he's not running for reforms he believes in or out of patriotism, but out of pure ambition and power, and that he's willing to break promises and lies because of that ambition.
Giuliani speaking at the GOP convention, reminds me of Biden's quip, a noun, a verb, and 9/11; which leads me to give a needed lesson in grammar.

donna -

Insults, and sarcasm only convinces us that you have . . . .

-----------

Us? Who is 'us'? Do you represent some group? For their sake, lets hope not.
Bryant, Athens KY (Sent Tuesday, August 19, 2008 8:46 PM)

**********

Bryant,

You are absolutely correct. However, in English grammar there is the 'royal we, or us', which can be used when speaking in the 'first person'.

I speak only for myself.

Here endeth the lesson.
If you look at the lineups for both the Democratic and Republican conventions, one thing really jumps out at you. The Republican lineup is filled with men and women that do something. Not only to they talk the talk, they walk the walk. The Democrats on the other hand have much more star power and many more celebrities. But, the Democrats are all posers, people that can talk the paint off the walls, but not a leader among them. This years election has come down to either symbolism (Democrats) or substnace (Republicans).
Julie ani!
More a noun, a verb, and 911!

Obama/Biden
Go get 'em, Joe!
Yep, the jokers just keep coming out of the closet for the repugnants.  In case nobody told them, family values does not mean how many families you collect on the way to power, it means staying with the one you first married.  yes indeed, I love it, Mr. Adulterer and Mr. Adulterer - wouldn't that make a great "conservative family values" ticket! LOL!  come on John, choose Rudy, choose Rudy - make my day.
Just reading those names made me yawn.
Oh boy, here comes the fear-mongering..Rudy and 9-11.
Tom Ridge on Reform Day?  (Tuesday)

After all that he has done to fight the reform effort in PA (Backing PA Judges for retention, defending Payjackers, etc.)  over the last 3 years.

He is part of the PA machine, not a reformer.
To All McCain Supporters:

How many of you voted for Bush?  Twice?

Do you think you make good decisions?
'First Thoughts' timed out, I guess.

Thank G-D Joe is back!

Sometimes I think First Read looks to push our buttons, as in being the tail which has the power to wag the dog. Yesterday Mark used the word 'stunt' in reference to Obama's 2,000,000 donor. Today the MSM has the Zogby polls with a 5 point McCain lead on it's front page.

I hate manipulators. To manipulate others is a purely sociopathic behavior. Senator Chuck Hagel said it best; “get off that“.

"McCain says high to folks"

do they say jump first?
Could Mr.Todd look in why all moderators for debates are white 68 - 74 years old? Not one female or young moderator picked? This years historical election and we have moderators that have the age of McCain. This is not correct. The moderators should be a mixture of gender and age. Like to see you talk about this?
Since this is a post about the GOP, anyone want to take a pool on how many hateful and demeaning comments Obama supporters will post, even though they support a candidate who advocates togetherness and fellowship that transcends political differences and pride? Lol. Interesting how Obama supporters chant his message of change, but completely disregard his opinion that people can have different beliefs and still be constructive.

I wonder if they really think Obama would be PROUD to read what some of his most "diehard" supporters say here. That is, if his message of hope and unity is genuine. (And I honestly hope it is.)
And Fox News will continue to trounce MSNBC as it does every single day as long as shamelessly biased liberals like Maddow and Olbermann are on the air. Sent by Drill Baby Drill 9:43 AM

It sure beats having a propaganda station that questions no one in this Administration.

It's not healthy for our country.

I'll take educated commentators over fear/war mongering fake religious commentators any day of the week.

This is what's healthy for our country.

A good dose of thoughtful intelligent reasoning never hurt anybody. It's called democracy.
Well lets hope what is playing on the Gigantic TV Screen is a good movie...something to keep everyone awake.
Overall Theme: Country First...not necessarily this one!

Monday: Service Day...because look at all the multi-billion dollar corporations we serve!

Tuesday: Reform Day...because we've screwed up so we'll try and convince you that we're going to make it all better...we won't do it, but we'll try to convince you!

Wednesday: Prosperity Day...because it's always fun to reminisce about the good old days before we brought you George W. Bush!

Thursday: We haven't announced the Thursday theme yet because John McCain isn't big on "long-term" memory so if we tell him now he won't remember and he'll go off message with his acceptance speech!
Oh, the liberals are going to have their undies in a knot over Prosperity Day'. They just don't get that.
proserpeity and reform from the republicans. you are joking right. Do these republicans think we are stupid? Where is the prosperity and reform from the republicans. they are crooks. get real McCain and stop selling me a bag of goods. One thing I can't stand is people insulting others intelligence.
Biggest news of the day and First Read is not on top of it: McCain is leading by 5.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - In a sharp turnaround, Republican John McCain has opened a 5-point lead on Democrat Barack Obama in the U.S. presidential race and is seen as a stronger manager of the economy, according to a Reuters/Zogby poll released on Wednesday.

Any word yet on which country is first?  Are we still all Georgians? Will Hagee and Lieberman double team in telling us why Israel is first?  Will the Bush's tell us why Saudi Arabia is first?
I like this lineup, particularly the PrimeTime speakers.  I'm still holding out hope that Palin will be the nominee.  But, I'm okay with most of the people who have been mentioned as possibilities
I'm really glad that I don't have any family members of draft age.  I feel sorry for those of you who do.  Because if you think that McWar the hothead will not entangle us in more wars, with Iran, Russia or anyone else who happens to p*ss him off, you are delusional.  The blood will be on your hands if you vote for this man.
From an earlier post from Adam in St. Louis:  'However, I don't want to know why you suport McCain. I know the answer to that one. Your obviously an idiot. But why the hatred for Obama? Has he done something that personally offends you?'
-----------------------------------------------
Are you kidding me?  Why don't you take a look at the hate for McCain on here sometime.  Has McCain 'personally offended' 80% of these people?
Ignorant people ARE to blame -- along with the corporate media who kept them ignorant -- for the US being run by the incompetent G. W. Bush for eight years. Bush didn't just get into office by Supreme Court decree or anything (well, at least not in 2004).

Housotn <<<<<<

Do "Smart" people always spell their name wrong?
Guiliani is perfect as a keynote for McCain. Both have a predisposition to hysteria and exaggeration.

Consider McCain's litany of "greatest" threats facing the world.

"America's most important values—life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness—are under vicious assault by the Milosevic regime," requiring "an immediate and manifold increase in the violence against Serbia proper and Serbian forces in Kosovo," including mobilization of "infantry and armored divisions for a possible ground war."

Regarding the first Gulf War: "the peace and security of the world for future generations [demand] that the world community act decisively to end the Gulf Crisis now."

Regarding terrorism: "the transcendent issue of our time: the battle and struggle against radical Islamic extremism."

And now regarding Georgia: "the first probably serious crisis internationally since the end of the Cold War," and "Putin wants to restore the days of the old Russian empire."

Guiliani fits right in with this tendency to see every situation as yet another greatest challenge ever, which can only be overcome with American military force.
I won't waste my time watching the GOP convention!

I'll spend my time watching the Chicago Cubs dominating the national league.

Go Cubs!
Hopefully someone from the world court or the Hague will be at this convention, so they can round up all these crooks and send them to the Hague for trial. Bush, Cheney, Hitler, Milosevic, Tito, Pol Pot, Castro, Stalin, the list goes on!
Tracy, Tracy, substance? Like Katrina, like Afganistan, Like Iraq, Like not being ready for 911, Like an economy that is going down the crapper, I just don't know how much more substance we can take.

This is really funny.

And all along the Democrats said only the Republicans use scare tactics.
This schedule seems awfully agressive. Have they considered Depends breaks for McFossil and 11:00PM, do they really think he will be awake?
What strikes me most is Pawlenty's name is absent and instead we see VP nominee...
Michael (Sent Wednesday, August 20, 2008 12:42 PM)

-----------------------

Look at Thursday and you'll find Pawlenty.
Ok yesterday I made a statement about the right-wing lunatic fringe, only spouting Lush Limbergers talking points. That person responded by saying that liberals only refer to the fact that John McCaon is old. Now I can not say that I have never said anything about his age because I have. But his age is not what makes him the liar that he is. No it is the fact that he has moved his positions to the far right and lies about Obama's positions to make himself look better.
Wow. A total flip from both sides.

The Republicans will have a Prosperity Day while the Democratics will have a Veterans Day. A complete reverse from the previous conventions.
Will McSame have a green screen behind him again?  Is it all on video so he doesn't have to embarass himself by trying to speak live.  Sure, he wants to inspire people - but, he DOESN"T!!

Can people disagree with the Bush/McCain policies without being unpatriotic?

Can people disagree with the Bush/McCain policies without being traitors?

Can you disagree with Bush/McCain policies without wanting to ‘lose a war’?

Are war mongers the only patriots?

What ever happened to ‘Straight Talk’?
What ever happened to a ‘respectful campaign’?

Obama/Biden '08
The time for CHANGE is LONG OVERDUE

YAWN! Old White Guys on parade!
the polls are part of the republican owned and operated media propaganda machine, I can't believe anyone could consider them in any way meaningful, doesn't anyone wonder why the press doesn't hammer mccain on his fake hero status, the lobbyist trash he surrounds himself with, his many affairs, the fact that he would not have even made pilot if not for his admiral daddy pulling strings, the fact that he owns more expensive houses than most anyone, his tax cuts for the rich only, it would not take much of a reporter to find dirt on this dude, but no one will, cause it's all about the money "my friends" and the rich don't intend to stand buy and see anything change that would negatively impact the sweetheart deal they currently enjoy.
