A more buttoned-up Biden

WILMINGTON, Del. -- The Joe Biden of stakeouts past -- the one who handed out bagels and willingly stopped for quick chats -- is gone. A man who seemed to relish the attention of the press during the first two days of the veep vigil is now all business and acting, dare we say, more vice presidential.

News crews have had only brief sightings of the Delaware senator today. Instead of driving his pickup truck, Biden rode shotgun as he left his house in the car of a staffer this morning. Seen in more formal attire, Biden headed downtown to seemingly run errands, talking often on the phone as he went.

Biden also stopped in at a local cafe, but the potential VP pick managed to sneak out a different exit. Asked if the senator went out the front door or a back door, a waitress smiled and said, "He's avoiding you guys. Stop following him."

By this time, Biden had returned at his home, called the "Lake House" in Biden Land. Eventually his wife, Jill, and son, Beau, also arrived. But less than an hour passed before Biden left again, this time driving in a silver SUV with his wife, with nary a whisper -- or some munchables for the press.

A Biden spokesperson said he had no events on the public schedule today. At the nearest airport, no signs of an impending departure. And still no text message from the Obama campaign announcing a selection.

It's Clark I tell ya!

Obama/Clark '08
USA Today is reporting that Obama stated he has made his decision...but won't disclose it yet.

I sure would like to know already :)
Oh please, please, pluese, Obama, please pick Biden! Mr. Plagiarism, hairplugs for men, bright and clean candidate, got 1% of the vote in Iowa before quitting, Joey Biden!

Biden is about the only guy out there that could make Obama look less elite or snobbish.
I guess Dunkin Donuts will not make their sales numbers today.  Poor Indian fellow.
I do want it to be Biden but really, could we just give him and the rest of us a break. It will happen when it happens.  But I have to say, I love the name Beau.  My best cat in the world was Beauregard, Beau for short.
Yeah, we just don't have enough Senators who give  long boring speeches for a living running for President/Vice-President this time around. Lets add some more to the mix.
OBAMA/BIDEN, 2008!
What a mistake if Biden is selected.
All the Veep choices need to put signs in their windows.... PRESS GO HOME.

Those of us in the Philly area - and I am sure Sen. Biden remembers this - can recall a couple years ago the ludicrious stake out by the sports media at Terell Owen's house in South Jersey before the Eagles dropped him.  Joe should come into his driveway shoot a few hoops and lift some weights - just for the pure circus effect the media is craving
Mercy me - this sounds like the journal of a stalker!

He, while you're waiting for Joe Biden to sneak out of his house, do ya think you could write a story about John McCain's support for the draft?

Much obliged.
You reporters need to get a life.
I care very much about who Obama picks for VP.  But this anticipatory foolishness is really getting to me.  Does anyone who supports Obama think that his campaign wants this - the foolishness?
Thanks for the update! Any more dish on what he was wearing? Hmm? Did his shoes match his outfit?  Hmmm? Was he on the phone to his BFF?  Hmmmm?

What's the latest on Paris and Britney today? Hmmmmm?

Jeez Louise, what passes for journalism these days!
Takes a lot to shut up Joe. Perhaps the National Enquire has a hot story coming out about him?
Biden isn't the guy.

MSM, try Bayh.
OMG I am just dieing to know...what did Senator Biden have to eat at the cafe? Just text me the message....I will be waiting. Thanks so much!!
Can you leave Biden alone and focus on Mitt & Sanford who are unable to list any of McCain accomplishments? Mitt is the sure VP for McLame.

The Mittster draws a blank on McCain accomplishments

Seriously? Seriously?! Biden Land?! This stuff is absolutely hilarious. Get off Biden's lawn! Let him get his lunch in peace! Let him come and go in peace!
Biden names his house? What kind of an elitist snob is this guy?
Gee whiz. You folks are starting to appear like paparazzi. Give it a break.

I have seen comments that Obama is milking this, but that's just because the Democrats come first. McCain would be getting just as much attention as Obama.
what time did he go to the bathroom?
My bet is a private jet with the destination of Springfield Ill.  I hope so...Give them hell, Joe. Turn on your cell phones, it will be confirmed in the next 24 hours.
So are you guys journalists, or paparazzi? When you're covering the Democrats, seems like more the latter.
So leave the guy alone....I wouldn't mind at all if Biden was chosen - the much better Joe.  And if they think Romeney will help our "friend" McCain in Michigan - think again.  WE know the truth about who will help us, who is a phony...we have a lot of experience, what with the evil mayors of Detroit and Flint.

Obama/Biden 08

Then Biden went a diner where he ate and then he got back into his car and went home where he sits in front of the TV watching the Olympics.  He might have recorded something because he is fast forwarding through the comercials.

Are you serious?

He might go to the bathroom too; Are you going to report that too?
Yep, I haven't gotten a text message either!...I feel like a girl with a new boyfriend waiting for his call/text!...lol
"He's avoiding you guys. Stop following him."
**********************

The press so often has no decorum. The Senator's son is about to be deployed. Is there never a time when you don't act like hyenas?
You see Democrats, here's why you get the celebrity label. What in the world is the point of the press camping out on a guys lawn trying to figure out if he's the VP choice or not? You don't see this done with the Republicans, they announce these things the mature way, with a small press conference and then the camapign goes on. No, the Democrats, and their pals in the press, have to make everything a spectacle. It's all very demeaning to the office they are trying to achieve.
What about the draft comment?  Why aren't you following it up? Oh, that's right, Chuck Todd thought maybe McCain didn't understand the question!
Anybody seen Wesley Clark lately?
OMG I am just dieing to know...what did Senator Biden have to eat at the cafe? Just text me the message....I will be waiting. Thanks so much!!

Eliot, Los Angeles, CA

I'm sure the leftovers of Biden's cafe lunch will be up on eBay tonight. I'm told the leftovers look like Elvis.
I'm getting butterflies... :)

Since the very first debate, and I have witnesses, I've said that it should be Obama/Biden.
did joe biden brush his teeth this morning?
I guess Dunkin Donuts will not make their sales numbers today.  Poor Indian fellow.

Again, this is why most of us think that people from texas have a poor education system and family trees with too few branches

Jerry,

Once again, you truly dissapoint. The pongiant, eloquent poster of the primaries turned to a Neo0con talking point with legs, now adds to the flames by proving himself a stereotyping bigot.
I like Biden a lot, and he seems like a good person, but I think Clark would be a better pick.  He's a former general (military with EXECUTIVE experience compared to McCain's 5 crashed planes... mostly his own fault) and he's sharp as a knife.  The guy graduated first from Westpoint Academy compared to McCains 895 out of 900 at Annapolis. Come on America, wake the hell up! Stop electing idiots!
Clark is a good man and has military experience. But Clark is not a seasoned politician. I don't think he would bring Arkansas with him and he would be torn to shreds by McCain and the Republicans.

Take either Biden or Hillary. Biden for his willingness to give it back to McCain. He is accepted by many i nthe middle class, hails from PA and can speak the common man's language. Plus he has great foreign policy experience.

If Obama takes Hillary he might nudge that 11% of Hillary supporters staying on the fence and would help to give Obama a 10% - 15% lead in the polls. The polls are close becuase these are the folks holding back. Then after elcted President give Hillary the National Health care issue and keep a lid on her on everything else and send Bill to some far off ambassador assignment.
yeah, all of this is total foolishness. not only should you guys at First Read be embarrassed.... but i think Obama is milking this a little too long... its more distracting than making us anticipating the whole thing...

dumb move.

plus, the old rule of thumb is that the pick is never the obvious guy. so Biden is out, any idiot can see that.... sort of surprised that Chuck and the crew is eating this up hook, line and sinker.... the guy who has gotten the least amount of press is Bayh, so thta is who it will be (unfortunately)... either that or a wild card that none of us have thought of.
My bet is a private jet with the destination of Springfield Ill.  I hope so...Give them hell, Joe. Turn on your cell phones, it will be confirmed in the next 24 hours.
Ron Indiana (Sent Thursday, August 21, 2008 3:19 PM)

thought I heard the Sat event had been changed to Indianapolis.
Pick Hillary and sick both clintons on mccain...
Does your thinking rationalize more funding for war when we have a struggling economy. How about tax breaks for the upper 1% of the nation,

Rodney, Gaithersburg, MD (Sent Thursday, August 21, 2008 3:12 PM)

Tax breaks for the upper 1%? Tax breaks?! The upper 1% currently pay about 35% of all the income taxes. The upper 5% pay 55% of the income taxes. Quite the break they are getting.
And what was he wearing???
THIS IS GETTING DUMB OBAMA

Nobody cares anylonger ;(
I am very upset with Obama
Biden did miserably in the primaries, what makes you think he'll seal the deal for the general election you Bidenmaniacs!

The truth hurts Obamabots, but the fact is, without Hillary, Obama will lose.

People are already tired of him. I am tired of him. But am a loyal Democrat, and will reluctantly vote for him.  If I feel that way, how in the heck do you think that without Hillary, he'll get her die hard supporters, or even Independents!  Please, wake up from your Kool Aide hang over already!
I have to agree with the waitress -- stop hounding the guy.  Where is the coverage of Kaine and Bayh?  Why aren't you guys there looking at them?
I don't know who it's going to be but I sure can do without the speculation for both candidates. I guess the media has a choice: speculate endlessly on who the candidates will pick for their running mate or drill down into the issues voters care about. THe choice is self-evident.
While everyone's chasing Biden, who's gonna tell me how McCain's draft plan is going?

And until a McCain supporter gives me some factual evidence against Obama, I think I'll ignore the name calling. Elitist, out of touch... just making the prospect of a Republican looking worse.

And the next person who says "liberal" this or "conservative" that needs to be shot.
"Only those who are evil can view all things in absolutes"-George Lucas (yea I just quoted Star Wars. Get over it.)
This is undoubtedly the most boring story I've read in a while. By the end, I was expecting lines such as "Biden then looked up and noticed a bird in a tree. He then scratched his right forearm and continued on his business."

Slow news day, I guess.
please let it be Clark -- he's the perfect candidate against McCain.
Jon Stewert is right, the press pack is like a gaggle of little kids playing soccer, all you see is this pack moving down the field, then the ball pops up and the pack moves en masse to chase it.
And what was he wearing???
THIS IS GETTING DUMB OBAMA

Nobody cares anylonger ;(

Nj (Sent Thursday, August 21, 2008 3:32 PM)

Why are you upset with Obama? Should he just fold to everyone's needs because they want to know his VP? This is his decision and only he should decide when he wants to tell people!
