Michelle Obama meets the press, sort of

Posted: Monday, August 25, 2008 2:58 PM by Mark Murray

From NBC/NJ's Carrie Dann
DENVER -- With mere hours to go before her address to the Democratic National Convention tonight, Michelle Obama was not planning on taking any questions. But during this morning's walkthrough in front of the podium where she will speak tonight, a few reporters sent the softballs sailing anyway.

"Michelle, do you have any words for the Swedish women?" asked a thickly accented Scandinavian voice from amidst the gaggle of reporters assembled to watch Mrs. Obama's practice run. "They really admire you!"

As handlers on the floor harshly whispered their reminders that Mrs. Obama would not be taking questions from the press gathered on the convention floor, the aspiring first lady seemed caught off guard. "Tell them thank you," she responded politely.

With one question fielded, more were shouted out. "Are you excited about tonight?" yelled one reporter.

Asked by another, "Is it a harmonious convention?" the senator's wife responded with a firm nod. "Yes, it is.

Mrs. Obama passed on other inquiries about the content of tonight much-awaited address, choosing instead to stand squarely in front of the podium and purposefully survey the hall that has slowly filled with press types and visitors throughout the morning.  Daughter Sasha, age 7, stuck close by her mother, at one point reaching up to smack the convention gavel down. When the resulting reverberation boomed throughout the room, she giggled, "I didn't know it was going to be so loud!"

Mrs. Obama was accompanied on the practice run by both daughters, as well as by brother Craig Robinson, who will introduce her tonight.

well, isn't that just SO sweet?  Gag me with a spoon. And, why is her brother introducing her?  Are the children going to sing and dance?

MICHELLE IS A SMART AND CLASSY WOMAN.  She will be a fine First Lady.

Go Michelle!
You represent ordinary people like me and will overcome the Republican smear machine.

God Bless.
And this is newsworthy??

I Love Michelle Obama.  She is going to do a GREAT job.
Why isn't Cindy speaking at the St Paul convention?
"Softball" questions to the Democrates is the MO for all of the MSM. Cindy of course would have got the "How many houses do you own?" question.
I will be watching the Clintons speeches, otherwise the dem convention holds no interest for me this year.
If I were her I would give everyone THE FINGER for taking her words out of context and trying to make her look like an ANGRY BLACK WOMAN.

That's Mrs. Obama.  A lady and treated like one...even by her husband.  Gosh, she's even speaking at the convention.  Quite remarkable the stark difference between their treatment by their husbands don't ya think.  Poor Cindy....poor rich Cindy...then who knows, maybe she enjoys the c word, being offered into a nude beauty contest, and other abuses from the great American hero.  Lifestyles of the rich and famous I guess.
The main stream media must be in all their glory at the Democratic convention. All their heros are there, and they're like giggling school girls whenever yet another celebrity walks by them. Then they sit their, stare you straight in the face (camera) and say "We're unbiased". Right. Sure.
Bunny, and Peter,

It was 90 degrees. They were in the sun. Michelle’s airy frock was practical. Peter, I don’t think Almighty God in Heaven cares about fashion, over honest leadership.
She is such a classy lady!  She's going to make one heck of a First Lady!
This is exactly the image - michelle and the kids cheerily taking in the atmosphere with proper awe - that the campaign needs to present.

I am so excited. My belly is full of butterflies.

May The Lord Bless you, and keep you Mrs. Obama. I love Michelle.
Obama needs to go hard and deep about McCains character!

He needs a new add now about how McCain degrades and disrespects women.

1. Calling his wife the "C" word!

2. Wanting his wife to go topless at the Buffalo Chip Contest!

3. How women should only speak if spoken to!

4. How women do not deserve the right to choose!

5. Laughing when someone in New Hampshire ask McWife-beater how do we beet the B%#&h! The questioner was referring to Hillary Clinton

6. How McNo-women allowed; will not let Cindy speak at the Retughlican Convention, you know the meeting of all the top Crime Family’s in United States in Minnesota next week!

MCAIN WILL NOT LET CINDY MCCAIN SPEAK AT THE CRIME FAMILY CONVENTION NEXT WEEK!
Did the Queen actually talk to her subjects? I guess She has to, they do obediently communicate her message to the masses.
McCain,

...never voted for a bill that would help the middle class
...never voted for a bill that would hurt the rich and powerful.
...voted to deregulate business and industry and enabled Bush/Cheney to install "foxes in the hen houses" that were supposed to protect consumers and workers.
...never voted for a bill that would help women or children or veterans or workers
...never had to balance a check book, never had to worry about health care, his mother ran the finances when he was young and his wife does it now.
...had no clue how many homes he and his wife had (seven) and had no clue what kind of car he drove (Cadillac CTS).
...plays the POW card as an excuse for everything.
he was a soldier, not a leader -- he never held a rank that required thinking, just following orders.  HE IS NOT A LEADER.
...and for a "foreign policy" so-called expert, his knowledge of geography is appalling.

McCain, a noun, a verb and I was a POW, my friends
or
McCain, a noun, a verb and "the SURGE worked", my friends.

McCain, four more years of Bush/Cheney failed policies.
Since I am operating on a self-imposed Clinton speech boycott (as well as a boycott of any/evereything else Clinton or even remotely Clinton-esque), I am looking forward to listening to Michelle speak. I think she is an impressive woman and will make an equally impressive First Lady.
:)

What a wonderful week it will be for the Obama family - a WELL EARNED triumphant moment - I can't wait!

Obama/Biden '08/'12

Michelle Obama subjected her two young children to anti-American racists ... Jeremiah Wright, Farrakahn, Pfleiger, and others
at the black liberation Trinity church in Chicago, for several years. Is this who you want for first lady ... I don't think so  !!
I'm really glad Michelle's being given an opportunity to speak. I think there are a lot of misconceptions about her that I think this speech is going to cure.

Good luck!

I think Michelle Obama will give a great speech tonight. Will it seal the deal for Obama and all those swing voters he needs? No, but it will be a great start.

Let's hope it also puts to rest the camp out there that says Michelle Obama is unpatriotic and doesn't care about this country.

I'm looking forward to Michelle's speech tonight. This woman is very smart and will prove to be an asset in this campaign, much to the disgust of John McCain and his handlers. She is not the angry, black woman that they'd like you to believe she is and she will prove that tonight. She is articulate and a great wife and mother and everyone will appreciate her after tonight. I can't wait for her to get her moment! Obama/Biden '08!
Several points:

1. Michelle, please look friendly when you speak...you have an intimidating expression sometimes, and this might be what turns people off [not me though].

2. Michelle, please don't make another "first time proud of my country" gaffe.

3.  Michelle, please don't wear those pearls again, reminds me of Marge Simpson!

Oh, at least you get to speak the DNC....McNasty won't let his trophy wife speak...guess its because he called her a "C" word, or she's too busy racking up another $150,000 credit card bill.
I bet media will spin this in a negative way, if not McCain's campaign will.

Did you see David Gregory with Karl Rove dancing?......I will never thrust anything David says again.
Michelle isn't going to be available to the press. There are more Loose Cannons in Baracks little army that it would make Napoleon blush. Even Obama can't read the teleprompter without making a major goof (I'd like you meet the nexr **President** of the United States, Joe Biden) The word is out, no unscripted words should flow from Barack's, Joe's, or Michelle's lips.

Sasha is so cute!
I have every confidence that Michelle Obama will deliver an excellent speech tonight and do her husband proud.

There's one big difference between the two couples, Obama and McCain.  Both John and Cindy rode the coattails of their parents into the family business.  Both Barack and Michelle worked their way up on their own merits.

Only Barack and Michelle understand being middle class because they were and are middle class Americans who worked their way up.  John and Cindy are just elitists who never had to live a middle class lifestyle nor work their way up.

Only Obama/Biden will protect and support middle class Americans!

Go Obama/Biden 08/12!
Forget the convention speeches... the big news of the day is that John McCain was just endorsed by DADDY YANKEE.
Will someone please ask her to explain the $2million contract she gave to David Axelrod to keep the poor out of University of Chicago hospital system?  If she is the wise person her husband will consult on issues facing the country, is this the kind of health care the poor can expect?
Mrs. O will have an awesome night cos she's an awesome woman!!
Ahhhh how touching, I think I wet myself ! Please should she handing out welfare checks in Chicago !
I am so excited about this week. We are witnessing history and I hope as Americans we can all appreciate what this means for our great nation.

I am thrilled for the Obama family. How proud his entire family must be! I would imagine his mom, grandfather, stepfather and father are smiling in heaven right now.

I am a forty-eight year old white suburban working female and I have never been as excited or thrilled by a candidate. Finally, change we can beleive in.....yes we can.

Obama/Biden 08
Her words to the Swedish women were 'America is a downright mean country' and 'for the first time in my adult life, I'm proud of my country.'
I think Mrs Obama is a lovley woman with two precious little girls. I have 2 grandaughters and what a delight. I think this familey is a really nice selling point for my candidate, it is obvious he adores his familey.

old white woman from s.c.
I cannot wait to hear her inspiring speech.
Doesn't anyone remember John, John playing under the desk in the Oval Office.  Sasha and the gavel is one of those moments.  I think Mrs. Obama will deliver a fine speech.  I wish pundits would give it a rest...
McFLipFlop has neither substance nor style.  Obama has both.  McFlipFlop doesn't know how many homes he owns.  Obama does.  McFlipFlop thinks the economy is fine.  Everyone else knows different.  Cindy went to bed with a man not yet divorced.  Michelle has not.  Where the hell are the evangelicals when you need them?
Michelle, you are the inspiration of a new generation of young American girls.  I'm so proud of all your accomplishments, of your strength, of your love of family, and love of country.  I can't wait to hear you speak tonight!  My two daughters, my husband, and I will all be watching.

Good luck!

54-year old Obamican
Mike T., if "how many houses do you own?" is a hardball question, you guys are far more screwed this election than anyone ever dared assume.

Why do you continue to subject us to your ignorance?  Do you even for 1 second look beyond anything Fixed News tells you?  Ever?

Jeremiah Wright served his country in his TWO tours in Vietnam - he postponed his education to do so.  No, I do not agree with things he said, but I will fight to the death his right to say them.  And, if you will look beyond the Fixed News reports, you will find that the speech that was on 24 hours a day, was but a small part a sermon - AND, he was quoting a WHITE former CIA operative.

I suppose that's OK with you though - it's ok to be Anti-American and racist, as long as you the right color under the hood.
