Excerpts of Michelle's speech

From NBC's Mark Murray
The Obama campaign has released the excerpts of Michelle Obama's speech tonight.

"But each of us also comes here tonight by way of our own improbable journey. I come here tonight as a sister, blessed with a brother who is my mentor, my protector and my lifelong friend. I come here as a wife who loves my husband and believes he will be an extraordinary president. I come here as a Mom whose girls are the heart of my heart and the center of my world - they're the first thing I think about when I wake up in the morning, and the last thing I think about when I go to bed at night. Their future - and all our children's future - is my stake in this election.

"And I come here as a daughter - raised on the South Side of Chicago by a father who was a blue collar city worker, and a mother who stayed at home with my brother and me. My mother's love has always been a sustaining force for our family, and one of my greatest joys is seeing her integrity, her compassion, and her intelligence reflected in my own daughters."

More: "And Barack and I were raised with so many of the same values: that you work hard for what you want in life; that your word is your bond and you do what you say you're going to do; that you treat people with dignity and respect, even if you don't know them, and even if you don't agree with them."

"And Barack and I set out to build lives guided by these values, and pass them on to the next generation. Because we want our children - and all children in this nation - to know that the only limit to the height of your achievements is the reach of your dreams and your willingness to work for them."

"And in the end, after all that's happened these past 19 months, the Barack Obama I know today is the same man I fell in love with 19 years ago. He's the same man who drove me and our new baby daughter home from the hospital ten years ago this summer, inching along at a snail's pace, peering anxiously at us in the rearview mirror, feeling the whole weight of her future in his hands, determined to give her everything he'd struggled so hard for himself, determined to give her what he never had: the affirming embrace of a father's love."

Pelosi told Hillary supporters to avoid "Victim Politics". How they going to do that? That's the bedrock of Democratic party.
Why isn't anyone disscusing Michelle racist comments, and thesis on white people and anti-american talk?
A new opinion poll showed how much work lay ahead to rally Clinton supporters behind him. The CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll said the race between Obama and McCain was dead even, each with 47 percent support.

It said 66 percent of Clinton supporters backed Obama, down from 75 percent at the end of June. Twenty-seven percent of them said they would support McCain in the November 4 election, up from 16 percent in late June.
What a brave lady Michelle Obama is to go onstage and speak at the convention.  Her speech sounds well thought out and I'm sure she'll deliver with class.  Her opposite number is far too chicken to give a speech at the repugnant one's convention.

What a Tale of Two Ladies, the difference between Michelle and Cindy are striking.  Michelle pulled herself up by her own bootstraps while Cindy was pulled up by Daddy BeerBucks.  Michelle earned her position in the business world while Cindy had it handed to her on a silver platter.  Michelle is the true epitome of a successful middle class woman rising up despite the glass ceiling.  Cindy is just a spoiled elitist brat who had to pop pills and steal money to make herself happy.

Anyone in the middle class who votes for "Elitist" McCain is voting for the enemy of the middle class.  Only bigotry keeps far too many from making the correct choice to vote for Obama/Biden.

Being "Different" is just repugnant one's code for he's black and he's Muslim and all those other lies of hate and fear that they spread every election to fool the masses into voting for them.  They're just too cowardly to be honest about what they mean by he's different.

Go Obama/Biden 08/12!
It's touching, personal and will definitely present a softer side of her personality. I feel women will respond very well to her speech and feel they can relate to her.
Very, very exciting.

As I have written before it will not seal the deal, but I think it will be a great opening to a very good week.

I think that this will quiet some of the claims that Michelle Obama is unpatriotic and an angry elitist.

Giving the biography of Obama will be a good way to introduce and reintroduce himself (and herself too) to not just the democrats but to everyone who is watching.

I can hardly wait!!  Michelle is going to make one heck of a First Lady; and those girls are so much proof of how well she and Barack has raised them.  Their values are so evident in those girls.  I will have a box of tissue at my side because I'm sure I will be tearing up with pride in our ticket!!
Chris Mathews was talking with clinton 4 mccain women a little while ago and called them wackos - turns out the domain clintons4mccain.com was registered by the RNC on May 15th:

The Republicans ruined our country.  They should be ashamed of themselves.  The Republicans should not be allowed to vote until they get it, and apologize for it.
Getting to know Barack !!! The surefire way to guarantee this is for him or Michelle to lace some personal anecdotes with his policies. Let the American people know how much these personal stories and experiences would help in shaping his policies.
Mccain is his strongest when he tells his POW stories, especially as it empasizes his patroitism. Barack and Michelle have to come up with more compelling stories of people's life's they had touched.
michelle obama is the best campaigner McCain could ever hope for!  Her speech tonite will be a prime-time, 30min, all-out, McCain ad.  In all fairness McCain should pick up her tab (everywhere she goes) for the next 3 months.
Michelle will be awesome tonight, I pray. I'm looking forward. That rear view mirror anecdote hits you where you live.
What racist comments?  Why do people write stupid stuff like this?  If we want to talk about wives then we should talk about Cindy McCain's drug addiction right?  Or the fact that John was banging her way before he ever left his wife?
Right on Michelle, you are such an elegant lady;  and lady of couture; mentioning your being "A Lady in Waiting" from Chi-town's South Side is  not just a slice of Chi-town. It's all of American. America is diversifed—economically, ethically, racially, politically; but they’ll get Obama message.

GDI in Michigan (Sent Monday, August 25, 2008 9:42 AM)

This is what many on here have been saying for months. If you don’t like him your a raciest. and not even knowing how many independents you drive away with that thinking

Get Real! Remarks like yours only give credence to what racism is. African American built this country from coast to coast. Today, Barack a well educated  African American can't get a cab based on his skin color; not to mention becoming the POTUS
In other words the Blacks blood, sweat, tears, booming, being gased with fire hoses, bulldozed, and   deaths are of no significant?
If this is the face of America; surely the world will wonder how American can tout progress and equality for Georgia, Iraq etc; but not for its own.  Believe me the world is watching.

Nobody but  Obama
Obama/Biden 08/12

Can MSNBC get rid of "Coffee Joe"?  It's 7:30PM back East and this idiot can only talk about how great McCain is.  He's wrong and he's offensive.  Time to show him the Door.
Yo!  Michelle!

NO SALE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey, Seattle:

The "Dick" comment was enormously clever.  I've never heard that one before.  It puts you in the lower 1% of the several hundreds of millions who have been similarly inspired over the last century or so.

Let's see, next time you can re-name me Rick and add the "P".  Or just call me Rich, certainly the most egregious insult to be found here.

It is good, maybe even inspiring, to see someone in middle school take a leap into scintillating First Read commentary.

Keep up the good work.
Greg R, Spokane:

Maybe after the election Obama can put you in charge of rounding up Republicans, tattooing an "R" on our forehead and putting us in camps.
Some more excerpts: "Then I remember when Barry became a Senator and I immediately got a promotion and a pay increase of a hundred thousand dollars. And I remember sitting next to Barky in chuch listening to Rev Wright slander America and Hillary Clinton, and I remember saying America is a mean place and for the 1st time in my life Iam proud to be an American. Then I went to work to make sure that the hospital wher I work does not have to deal with uninsured patients cause we will send them to local clinicsand save our ER for thr rich.

Did you think Clintons4McCain would be registered by the DNC?

Revelation, thy name is obvious!
After a year and a half...folks still have to be introduced?......Go Michelle!  Now First Read, and MSNBC, can you introduce Pat Buchanan for what he really is since he just referred to Mrs. Obama as "GAL"...what is wrong with Pat Buchanan?
I just heard Chuck on the air. He made some very disparaging comments about the PUMA people, then, in the same breath, said "we're going to see the same thing from the Ron Paul people in Minneapolis next week."

Actually, no you're not, Chuck. In fact, it's people like you who are part of the problem, i.e., corporate media who deliberately ignore candidates with a truly better idea because you all still have the illusion you're kingmakers.

PUMA may well be sour grapes Hillary supporters who found themselves on the outside looking in. By contrast, Ron Paul's "Rally for the Republic", at the Target Center, is the beginning of an "insurgency"  in the GOP that will change politics as we know it - particularly in the "purge" of neocons who have hijacked the GOP for a couple of decades - and returning it to a true Conservative party, spearheading the call for restoring our civil liberties.

Instead of dismissing those people as ineffective and meaningless, like PUMA, perhaps Chuck should check out truly principled individuals for himself.
What is it with all these Clinton supports flooding topics that are unrelated to Clinton? Go cry somewhere else please. Us adults would like to talk about the topic at hand.

I'm starting to like Michelle. Her excerpts actually gave me some goose bumps. I have a feeling that if Obama gets elected, great things will start to happen in this country.
Richard, Washington State

I'd like the apologies one at a time please.  With real contrition.

And keep those knuckles off the ground.

Lenny,
I among so many others, who watch and don't post here, want this Joe Blow and ardent racist Pat Buchanan gone. Liberate Mivka
I can't wait.  She is a very strong women sho has accomplished so much. As a mother, a wife as well as a women.  I love to watch Obama and her together they are so much in love as the Daughters are so well behaved.  You can tell they are loved by their parents.
GO Michelle
Will Michelle address her campaign to rid University of Chicago Hospitals of the poor?  Probably not.  Will she explain how she could subject her children to hate speech for most of their young lives?  Probably not.  Perhaps she could explain just what, exactly, a community organizer does-plan block parties and softball games?  Or why her husband believes he, single handedly, can re-write the fundamental laws of economics, with no adverse consequences.  No, none of the above.  She will merely attempt to make us 'feel good', and, for the Obama supporters, that will suffice.  The rest of us will not be affected.
Tennessee loves Luke Russert!  He's great!  I can see his Dad in his face.  Tim lives on for the next generation.
Beverly in Chicago,
Let me get this right.
If someone does not support Barack they're a RACIST?

My dear, that is a RACIST statement!

You are a DISGRACE!
Greg, Spokane:

Kind of hard to do that starting from zero.  On the "knuckles" thing, you and "Seattle" are in a class by yourselves.

What a wonderful world this would be if we could only look at our own faults instead of trying so desperately to highlight the faults of others.  Perfection does not and will not exist until we make it to heaven though I wonder how many people who so willingly post such hateful and shameful posts will be welcomed in.  I will not slander Hillary Clinton or John McCain however I will vote without hesitation for Barack Obama.

There are a lot of nasty comments being made tonight, lots of repubs on this site tonight. please go away.you are meaness incorporated and will lose, if not in November, in life.

DEMS: BE CLEAR!! Stand up for this wonderful team and two families, Obama and Biden!

I AM A WHITE WOMAN AND I CAN SAY TODAY THAT THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE BEEN REALLY PROUD OF MY COUNTRY!!

You Republicans have killed all that is good among us--when something bad happens in this country, it's at your hands. We won't forget it. We will get our sweet revenge!!

GOBAMA/BIDEN!

Joe Scarborough is tired and clearly anti-obama.  He could at least be objective.  I love Chris and Keith for getting on his case with the shovel thing.

Why don't you have Joe leave for the republican convention now and give us reactions from there?  That way I don't have to turn off the set or change the channel when he's on.
By the way, Michelle Obama is a fine person and so is her husband.  The excerpts from the speech sound nice and I can identify personally with the sentiments expressed.  I've never experienced anything else in my life, in this administration or any previous administrations, Republican or otherwise.
Wow the republicans are scared and furious this evening aren't they?

LOL

Did anyone besides me just hear Tom Brokaw refer to Michelle Obama as a potential "Vice President"?!?!  On one hand I'd have to give him the benefit of the doubt, he probably just misspoke.  OR... perhaps it speaks to the level of influence of our First Ladies.  Either way, we're in for a wild ride...
When did the Republican party become the party of hate? Has it always been this way?
If you lived in NJ after 9/11 or maybe watched any of the non stop news coverage, you might be proud of how OUR country came together.
Michelle Obama should have been proud when she graduated from Harvard, are you telling me she wasn't proud when she did??
I guess, LB you don't really know what it's like to be able to read other peoples comment and maybe agree with them, or give them the benefit of the doubt, or disagree altogether, without resorting to nasty name calling, if you don't like YOU GET OFF THE BOARD!!
THAT DOES NOT GIVE YOU THE RIGHT TO BULLY THEM OFF THE BOARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OK MNSBC WHAT GIVES???I HAVE 5 POSTS TODAY THAT YOU LEFT OUT??
When I saw Joe Scarborough on the screen this evening, being interviewed by Keith "over-everyone else's head" - Olbermann, I asked my husband to switch to CNN (one of the worst) in order to preserve my sanity.  Unfortunately, he didn't hear me (naturally) and I proceeded to listen to the interview between Keith and Joe.  When the shovel question appeared I was beside myself.  Yes!  This is why we are fans of Mr Olbermann.  He speaketh what we thinketh.  Even when the truth is associated with someone employeed by NBC.  My hat is off to Keith, and to Chris who took over after it was clear that Joe should be dismissed.  I will be disappointed with NBC if anyone other than Joe is coached / counseled on this.  Joe has a propensity to talk on and on, much of which is bull.....and he definitely needs someone to call him on it.  Thank you, Keith, for once again saying what the rest of us can only think.
Amen, to Chuck Todd on MSNBC at 7:10 pm central time tonight; Nancy Pelosi is in great control of the Democratic party and isn't letting the Clintons take it over!  Thank God!  Thanks for pointing out what a great leader Pelosi is.
"Why isn't anyone disscusing Michelle racist comments, and thesis on white people and anti-american talk?"
---Florida

Sure I'll discuss.  No one is discussing these made up Republican dirty trick lies because there is no point.  Get a life. Stop being sheep and think for yourself instead of swallowing whatever re-inforces your narrow mindset.  Expand your world.
After a year and a half...folks still have to be introduced?......Go Michelle!  Now First Read, and MSNBC, can you introduce Pat Buchanan for what he really is since he just referred to Mrs. Obama as "GAL"...what is wrong with Pat Buchanan?
HALO: you are no angel! I guess you must be playing that game that makes you feel really important. Well, let's just say that I can say whatever I want--it's a free country remember? If it hurts, maybe you'd better look for the origin of the sting: reality bites!

I can only speak for my state, Virginia is pushing hard to go blue, including our military families, like me, who know what it's like to give all to our country just as much as John McCain. And we didn't have Admiral dads to give us a free ride or a rich wife to provide us with 7 homes!
Ron Paul's "Rally for the Republic", at the Target Center, is the beginning of an "insurgency"  in the GOP that will change politics as we know it - particularly in the "purge" of neocons who have hijacked the GOP for a couple of decades - and returning it to a true Conservative party, spearheading the call for restoring our civil liberties.
---Thomas, New York, NY

Best wishes Tom in that endeavor. Our civil liberties are hanging by a thread. The media pays almost no attention to this dire situation. It you all can succeed I might return to the party.  There is nothing conservative about the radicals in power now.
Republicans are jealous because all they have is Gramps and Plastic Ice lady.

I think Michelle will add some class and grace tonight, and I think her speech will be inspiring.
Oh yea, one more thing: I am proud of my country for the first time because I lived though the assasinations of both Kennedys and King. I am proud because we, Democrats, had the nerve to select a decent and honest man to run for presidential office. We could have gone the easy way, and pick Hillary, who would have been crucified by the Republicans. We had the nerve to select a man of color, with a family of color, born of a mixed race family, who faced challenges but made his way, as did his wife, through adversity, to make it to the top of the mountain. He is a 21st century person, and even if we don't win the White House due to the dirty hands of Republicans, who cheat their way into office, we will know and understand we did the right thing, the honorable thing. Nothing is greater than that!
