Clinton counts herself in

Posted: Tuesday, August 26, 2008 1:26 PM by Mark Murray

From NBC/NJ's Carrie Dann
DENVER -- When Hillary Clinton utters the words "Count Me In," unity-focused Democrats might tend to feel their stomachs churn a bit.

Tonight, Clinton happened to be referring to a reception for a women's organization called "Count Me In for Women's Economic Independence," a group that grants support to female-owned microbusinesses.

But the irony was not lost on the senator from New York.

Noting her banter earlier in the day with a colleague who asked about her plans for the first night of the convention, Clinton said that she replied, "I'm going to count me in!"

Per Clinton's story, the friend replied incredulously, "Are you talking about the roll call?"

The joke, which wasn't followed up with a particularly vehement denial from the smiling senator, was met with cheers and giggles from the crowd of several hundred -- mostly women -- who clamored for a glimpse of Clinton at the nighttime event at the Denver Art Museum.

(Yet as the AP reported last night, the Clinton and Obama camps have agreed to limit the roll call vote. "The deal would allow some states to cast votes for both Obama and Clinton before ending the roll call in acclamation for the Illinois senator. Clinton herself may cut off the vote and recommend unanimous nomination of Obama, according to Democratic officials involved in the negotiations.")

Despite the reference to the possible lingering intraparty tensions signaled by the Clinton upcoming roll call vote, the former presidential candidate offered up words of praise both for both a newly-minted political rival and for the wife of one-time opponent Barack Obama. Clinton lauded Obama endorser Senator Ted Kennedy's "fighting spirit" after his surprise appearance at the DNC despite a dehabilitating brain tumor. "And didn't Michelle Obama do a wonderful job tonight as well?" she added.

Without mentioning the name of her former rival and his new vice presidential pick, Clinton also noted the support that the Democratic ticket would have for programs like "Count Me In."

"It's very exciting that we have a chance to elect a president and a vice president who will help us make the dreams of so many Americans come true again," she said.

What is Obama so afraid of - count them all. What a wuss.
Sen. Clinton has done a great job, and tonight will continue along this path.  I would bet money that she never wanted the VP slot.   I believe if Obama is elected he will give her an extremely important cabinet postition or Supreme Court nomination.  I hope her supporters understand she can do much more good for women and this country in that capacity.

Great job?  Doubtful. Very poor job of running her campaign, and lots of jobs for NY that she promised and failed to deliver.  She may not have wanted the VP job, but Bill sure did.  As for a Supreme Court nomintation, sure she may get nominated, but no way she'll pass scrutiny of Congress - Repubs will "Bork" her unmercilessly.  Cabinet position, possible.
If as stated Hillary has 18,000,000 votes behind her, then why can't they all donate $1.00 each and retire her debt????? BTW, Michelle Obama was absolutely mesmerizing last night.  For the record, I am white, female, Jewish and over 50..oh yeah and college educated along with my husband and three children...that's five for Obama...Kudos to Chris Matthews for shutting up Pat Bucchanan's stupid comments last night after Michelle's speech...
Its not about issues its about qualifications to be commander in chief. I didnt like Hillary until she showed her strength under pressure. Like Chris Mathews I too had a tingling sensation when I first heard Barrack, but his flip flopping and his failure to unite the party and insure victory by putting Hillary on the ticket is powerful evidence he is not ready to be commander in chief and doesnt understand his own message of unity in order to bring about change. Mccain clearly would be a better commmander in chief even if you differ with him on some issues such as abortion.
The real Obama supporters have not figured out by calling people names and telling them how they have to behave does not indear people to their candidate. Obama choice to not even consider a candidate that received 12 million votes was selfish and devisive.
A lot of those votes were not just for Hillary, but were absolutely Democrats against Obama.  Instead of trying to win them over he slapped them in the face.
There is no way Hillary could have been picked as Vice-President and I wish people would deal with reality.  How can a President have a high profile Vice President with an ex-President spouse?  The President needs to be in charge and with the press so enamored (at least with reporting purposes) the Clintons, Obama would be undermined from the start.

I am not saying Hillary would deliberately undermine Obama as Vice President, the press would do it.

So go ahead and vote for McCain and then four years from now if Hillary gets the nomination the country can dig out of a bigger mess.  Does that make sense?  It would be nice if people could think logically and keep their emotions in check.
For Hillary supporters that vote for McCain deserve McCain. He has voted against women rights, does not want us to have equal pay, his friends say women should enjoy rape, calls his wife ***t in public, voted against GI Bill, told his wife to compete in topless contest, divorced first wife because she no longer was pretty and was sick, if you vote for him you are not what Hillary was fighting for. Women for Obama / Biden 08
