The PUMA and the pragmatist

From NBC's Domenico Montanaro
DENVER, Colo. -- It's easy here to spot Clinton supporters who are not exactly happy with Obama -- they're the loudest and most colorful.

One such individual, who could certainly be described as a PUMA, was unabashed in her criticism of the presumptive Democratic nominee.

Jeamour Matthew, who apparently has a blog profile here, shouted blatant falsehoods from a 16th St. sidewalk about Obama's youth and policies, threw out inflammatory language like “racist,” “liar” and “cheater” to describe the Illinois senator and handed out bright, yellow flyers promoting Hillary Clinton. She described herself as an ardent Clinton supporter and volunteer and said she would never vote for Obama. She would rather vote for McCain, “a real American,” she said.

But this sentiment isn't exactly overwhelming, however. Most ignored the woman and some even politely attempted to engage her in a policy debate and correct her “facts” -- unsuccessfully -- before walking away.

“I'm very pragmatic about this process,” said Misha Houser, a Clinton pledged delegate from California. “Internal fighting doesn't do us any good.”

Houser, who is from Rep. Loretta Sanchez's district, said she is very pleased with Obama and will gladly vote for him in November. She said she is not sure how she'll vote in roll call on Wednesday, in part, because she feels an obligation to represent the will of those she's representing.

But, “We need to keep in mind what the end game is -- keep a level head,” she said.

And Houser doesn't blame anyone but the Clinton campaign for losing. She said Clinton's lack of planning between Feb. 5 and Feb. 19 plus that “they didn't pay enough attention to caucuses” is why Clinton lost.

The polite, mild-manner Houser grew frustrated when asked about people like Matthew.

“That's such crap,” she said, maintaining the same level tone. “I mean, God, what's the choice? You have someone like McCain who doesn't know what he stands for and someone who works from the grassroots, which is what we're supposed to stand for.”

Morning Joe takes on Keith Oberlman and kicks butt, then takes on David shuster and Kicks butt, will morning Joe be around much longer, will radical MSNBC post this HELL NO.. Just so u guys know Its all over the internet lmao www.drudgereport.com
OK, I was a Clinton supporter, and I'm not 100% sure about Obama, but these PUMAs are a bit ridiculous.  I'm voting for Obama because he's the best candidate I have to choose from.  While I'd like to see him be a bit more specific, and for god's sake fight back against the Republicans, he's definitely a much better choice than McCain.  I can't help but wonder how many of these PUMAs are Republican plants trying to cause problems in the Democratic ranks.
The focus on PUMA nuts by the traditional media is so over-blown and biased.  It is over-blown because there are so few of these nut cases.  It is biased because the traditional media completely ignores the huge rifts in the Republican party.  Where are the stories about Ron Paul's counter convention in Minneapolis?  Where are the stories about the religious right's dislike of John McCain?  Instead, it is a one-note media circus focusing on the Democrats.  I can't just blame MSNBC.  One only need spend five minutes watching the Republican News Channel (Fox) to see more of the same.
Stories like this make Clinton supporters look a lot better.  I think the media focuses on the first profile which in turn becomes what other supporters think they're supposed to act like.

Nice report Dominico.  You guys do really well when you're hitting the pavement...literally.

'...McCain said that he had a “chance to express such confidence in America” -- but passed it up....'

John McCain had a chance to denounce smear tactics when asked about the book Obamanation
HE passed that up

John McCain had a chance to denounce 'Rove-style' smear tactics.

He passed that up, too

Hey Cindy !
Where'd you find that dwarf ?
He's only after your income property !!
I smiled a little when I read this. This can only help Obama.

Obama/Biden 08
Seriously, these people like Matthew are either insane or the penultimate in childishness. It does a GREAT disservice to the legacy of the Clintons to see supporters behave this way. I'm just appalled at how foolish they are making the Clintons look. Bill and Hillary Clinton are party loyalist. They will support the candidate with their whole being. But women who would behave like these women say to me "Your daughter's right to make decisions about her own body doesn't matter because I didn't get my way and Hillary is not the nominee." They say to me "The life of your son who will need to be drafted into the next McCain war means NOTHING to me because I didn't get my way!" "Your mother's medicare benefits mean NOTHING to me because I didn't get my way!" "Your ability to keep your house means NOTHING to me because I didn't get my way!" "Communities affected by job losses mean NOTHING to me because Hillary is not our nominee!" Its shameful. These Clinton supporters should hang their heads in shame for this kind childish of behavior because its a shameful reflection upon the legacy of Bill and Hillary Clinton within Democratic Politics.

BTW-How great was it to see Chris Matthews go toe to toe with one of these republicans posing as a Hillary Democrat yesterday!!!  Too bad they can't stand a civil discourse on the policies and issues and have to resort to crap like that.
All of you Hillary supporters who want to vote for John McCain need to check out this posting...
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/8/26/0566/05306/361/575271

For all of you PUMA's this posting should make you want to run, not walk, but run to support Barack Obama.  John McCain and the republicans will use you the way they use anyone that they can to get elected and then do for themselves and their friends leaving the rest of us to fend for ourselves.  If you are thinking of voting for John McCain please check out what he stands for and against and if after all of that you think his plan for our country is better then Barack Obama then vote for him but becare what you vote for.
has anyone thought that maybe the pumas are limbaugh's operation chaos people. Closested republicans. two weeks ago shuster interview puma members and they did not donate to democratics ever. They donated to the republicans, so don't fall for the nonsense. Yes, there might be disenchanted hillary supporters, but not to the extent being reported.second, bill clinton's comment about x and y candidate. deliver promises, not deliver promise has nothing to do with experience. he could be talking about McCain's inability to deliever the necessary changes we need to assist the middle class and create jobs. nothing to do with hillary and barack.
My only question. Why can they call themselves PUMAs, but when I call them Cougars it's offensive?
A handful of irrational Clinton supporters doesn't mean the party is divided.  You want to see some real loonies?  Then tune in next week for the Republican freak show!
Alright, who else in Denver is up for organizing a protest against the PUMAs? :)
Facts? When have facts ever gotten in the way of the Obama campaign? Obama is an arrogant, inexperienced, loudmouthed, cocky, do-nothing. There are your facts.
To Joe Valentine, Orlando, FL, and Danny, SLC, UT:

Ignorance is not a virtue.  If you want to understand what I am talking about, go out and purchase McConnells Economics: Principles, Problems, and Policies, along with the workbook.  It is a college freshman's book, you should have not problem reading, understanding, and doing the exercises.  THEN you might have some inkling of what I am talking about.  No matter how often you spout Democratic talking points, the facts remain the same.  Better yet, do some study of history:   Herbert Hoover, (a Republican president), raised taxes during an economic slowdown.  That, and protective trade tariffs, caused the Great Depression.  I do not have the space to explain how these things worked to crash, not just this economy, but the world's, but if you do as I suggest in the first sentences, you will actually be able to figure it out for yourselves.  It involves thinking, yes, but, really, it doesn't hurt.
Perhaps the HRC supporters weren't Democrats at all, but rather Hillaricrats.  No need to solely blame the messanger(Obama) for HRC's loss.  Put the blame where it belongs which is on HER, the mis-management of her campaign, and last but not least, the MILLIONS of voters who chose OBAMA over her.  They all need to get a serious grip on reality!
'...Jeamour Matthew, who apparently has a blog profile here, shouted blatant falsehoods from a 16th St. sidewalk about Obama's youth and policies, threw out inflammatory language like “racist,” “liar” and “cheater” to describe the Illinois senator...'

CHARMING

When even MSNBC says 'shouted blatant falsehoods'
you know you're doing something wrong

There are Hillary 'dead enders'
We can't do anything about them

But, real Democrats probably don't want to see a Bush third term
And Real Democrats don't want to see a woman's right to choice ended

Does anyone remember Terri Schiavo ?
A bunch of politicians and bible thumpers decided they knew better than a grieving husband about his 'brain dead' wife
They decided they would determine if she lived or died

It's great having politicians control your life, isn't it ?
How about wire tapping without a court order ?
How about bomb, bomb Iran ?

That'll be FUN, huh ?

How about 'talking tough' to the Russians ?
In their back yard, no less
On behalf of a puppet sate that attacked Russia's allies ?

Obama/Biden '08
End the NONSENSE
And if the MSM would drop it, they wouldn't have a voice and MAYBE they would shut up and go away!
Those Hillary supporters are as nutty as they come. Off the wall, stupid, don't even care about the facts. They are close to being Republicans. Some of the most unreasonable people that god managed to put on this earth. Most need medical help.

Oh, but don't forget to vote for Barack. Thanks.

Obama/08
I think Ms. Matthew is the racist, here.
PUMA's like this are irrational individuals. They have no sense of the magnitude of this election. I hope they are can live with themselves if John McCain is elected and this country continues on the path it’s on. Four more years of the same failed foreign, economic, and educational policies we’ve had to endure for the last eight years. Many in this country can not endure these hardships much longer.

It is my hope that reason will take resident with these restless and reckless souls…
Would someone please at MSNBC pass on this message .

YOU CAN HEAR CHRIS MATTHEWS WITH THE DEMOCRACTIC CONVENTION EACH EVENING FOR ALL THE LOUD NOISE IN THE BACKGROUND. Now maybe someone thinks this is needed but several of us have noticed, who you pushing Chris Matthews & Guest or the Noise in the background? We are ready to switch.
Facts are facts, and Obama stole this election from Hillary. Sorry Obama, I just can't vote for you. Maybe in '12 when your Hillary's VP selection.
Easter egg hunt starting at 9pm est. None of you be late.
Nothing was taken from Senator Clinton. Nothing. What is Paul Bagala and James Carville's problem?

Hint: Last night, Chuck Todd alluded to these folks who went along for the ride the Clintons took them on in the 1990's right through this spring. Now they are all here in Denver, pouting about not getting invited to the best parties & things of that nature.

Jealousy. Loss of clout. Loss of power.

They have treated Senator Obama terribly. These are not the democrats I remember from the 1990's. Or perhaps they are. I just never noticed.

As Chuck also said, Terry McAuliffe, Mark Penn & Wolfson gave false impressions that Senator Clinton still had a chance to be the nominee, when all the numbers proved otherwise. How is this Senator Obama's fault?

There was no sexism.

What is evident to most of us is a really unprofessional campaign staff working for Senator Clinton this past year.

And Iowa. That was a straight down the middle anti-war vote back in January. Senator Clinton was out almost from the get-go. She would have lost NH if she had't garnered the sympathy vote. Unless the polls were wrong.

I'm tired of the **** kissing Senator Obama is supposed to extend to Bill Clinton. Obama is fighting for his life to get elected. Grow up people.

Immaturity is hard to handle when you're surrounded by them. Stupidity is much easier. At least they try to listen. Immature people could care less. It's all about them and their feelings of being slapped in the face. It never ever ends.

I wouldn't have wanted any of these people connected to my Administration either. Too many other important issues at stake.
If someone were to investigate Matthew, I bet you would find that she changed her registration from Republican to Democrat or Independent in 2007 or 2008.  Somebody needs to do America a favor and investigate these Democratic imposters!  She is just like Lou Dobbs who always tells everybody he is a registered Independent.  But what he does not tell people is that he was a Registered Republican until he changed his registered affiliation in 2006.
Jeamour Matthew speaks as a true angry hate filled racist Republican; no one is fooled by this disoriented individual who words make absolutely no sense.  The policy issues and desires by both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are nearly identical, both sides helped to create the convention's platform document so what is Jeamour's issue, personal no doubt!
Faith in humanity +10...
Misha: Houser “That's such crap,” she said, maintaining the same level tone. “I mean, God, what's the choice? You have someone like McCain who doesn't know what he stands for and someone who works from the grassroots, which is what we're supposed to stand for.”

--------------

Grassroots? Sure. Like all that money from the Teachers Unions, that grassroots? Or all the money from the Labor Unions. that grassroots? Or all the money from Big Environment, that grassroots?

Barack Obama is bought and paid for by the liberal corporations of this country. He's as much about special interest money as anyone else in Washington.
PUMA's are nothing but the fools and tools of the repugnant ones.  If a fool like that Matthew's woman is typical then the PUMA's are false supporters of Hillary and the Democratic Party.  They need to drop their racial bigotry and see that only Barack Obama will support them on women's issues.

I was really peeved with Hillary when she started that losing kitchen sink strategy.  I am now very impressed that she's more interested in party unity than in petty personal ego.

Understand that Barack could never have picked Hillary after she spent months with her kitchen sink strategy trashing Obama day in and day out.  Ironic that Hillary herself doomed herself as a viable VP running mate for Obama with that kitchen sink strategy.  Notice how quickly the repugnant ones were out with an ad of Biden dissing Obama from a year ago?  How many of those kind of ads would they have been able to run had he chosen Hillary?  Way too many.

PUMA's get over your bitter feelings about Obama.  I've grown out of my bitter feelings towards Hillary because I've been watching and listening to what she's said since the primaries.  Her acceptance of cutting the roll call vote short has impressed me immensely and I now respect her more than ever.  I really hope Bill gets a clue and follows Hillary's lead so that we do have a united party to stand against the real enemies of America - the repugnant ones who support "I Surrender" McCain.

Only Obama/Biden will protect and support women's issues!

Go Obama/Biden 08/12!
Honestly, First Read publishes posts from a paid McCain Troll (yes Donna, that is you) but mine, never get on.  Never.  What is up with that?
Does David Shuster's head ever move? Is he some type of automatron? We know Keith is, but what about Dave?
As an older white woman, I am personally embarassed by the behavior of the hard core HRC supporters.  They come across as hysterical, and confirm what some men have said for years about women in politics.  Shame on all of you...  We're better than that!

And, for those Morning Joe fans - the back and forth between Shuster and Joe this morning was just ridiculous!  Don't dare go against Joe, or he blows up, says you're on acid, and then pouts for the next hour...  It should be Morning Mica.  She's the brains of the outfit...  Joe's a spoiled child...  The show was much better WITHOUT him...
It is this type of blind loyalty and zeal that Hillary and Bill Clinton need to address promptly and succinctly in their respective speeches. They should make it clear that if you supported her candidacy then there is NO way you could be for her and vote for McCain.

As much has been said that the Obama campaign has been given a ‘free pass’ one could argue that the Clintons have been also. The fact remains that the time for internal bickering has long passed.

Much has been said in these blogs about the baseless attacks the Republicans have been launching against Obama, if fact thanks to the heated primary the Clintons provided sound bites for the recent ads. Now the sound bites should be to turn the page on this reckless Presidency and get a Democrat into the highest office of our great country.

If the Clintons are sincerely interested in seeing the Democratic Party affect the social changes that many are hungering for it will be incumbent upon them to unequivocally stand behind and support the Obama/Biden ticket. She may yet get a star place in the new administration and she will further build upon HER OWN resume.

Hillary and Bill need to accept the reality that this is someone else’s moment, rather than misuse this opportunity to stir the caldron of discontent, they should embrace the historic and momentous occasion. History is being written and this election is not unlike the birth of our country, there are portraits of the founding fathers and they (The Clintons) should want to be viewed as participants in a turning point of American history.

The flipside to that would be that should the Republicans retain the Whitehouse the Clinton’s conduct and campaign will be the fodder for analysis until the next election which will surely be like watching Rocky VII, we know the story line and he’s too old and who cares.
It's simple these PUMA's were borderline Hillary supporters( or heaven forbide Republicans).  This is an attempt to make an issue that is not one. Many Republicans will not vote for McCain( I am one) because he represents four more years of failed policies.  I applaud the Rovian politics that you the press have fallen into. If you do not think these PUMA's are not supported by Republican opperatives I have a bridge in Brooklyn I will sell you. What Democratic women voter supports a candidate who is wanting to overturn Roe, believes in limited Health care reform and does not support equal pay for equal work?
PUMAs why are you not helping Clinton pay off her debt. I've heard there are like 3 million of you it would only require $10 a piece from each of you. Put your money where your mouth is or just shut up sore losers.
Hey can someone at First Read help us Moronic Joe Haters out by giving us the name and e-mail address of the person at MSNBC tv who should be taking care of customer satisfaction?  After reading today one of the comments that Moronic Joe said that David Shuster must be on acid I better see MSNBC tv put Moronic Joe on vacation for as long as David Shuster was put on furlough for making a crude remark about Chelsea Clinton.

I've noticed numerous negative remarks about Moronic Joe here at First Read, as well as posting a few myself.  Please help us start an e-mail campaign to get Moronic Joe fired from MSNBC so he can go work for Fox, which he's already been doing for years.  I never watch his show and when it's on I switch channels.  Now I watch BBC America when I first get up to keep informed of worldy events rather than listen to Moronic Joe spew his hate filled filthy lies of fear and smear.

Anyone who would rather see Chuck Todd and the First Read crew get the Moronic Joe timeslot on MSNBC tv start piping up now and let's see if enough of us can get the dope on how to get rid of the ultimate dope on MSNBC tv.  We should do an ad like the old drug war one showing an egg frying and say "This is your Brain on Moronic Joe"!
I don't think what's happening now has too much to do with the primary.  The fact that Senator Obama didn't pick Hillary as VP is what sits in my craw.  If Biden had gotten even 8 million votes he would have probably been selected without little thought.  For Hillary to be ignored in this way is inexcusable behavior on Obama's part.  And then today Brian Williams I believe it was said that "insiders" said that Obama just didn't know what to do about Bill.  And he expects to run the United States and he doesn't know how to handle an ex-President?  And what does Bill have to do with anything.  Making Hillary suffer and denying her the Vice Presidency because of her choice in mates seems even a worse affront.  It's bad enough that she is being told to take her 18 million marbles and go play somewhere else, she's being punished even further because of Bill.   PUMA's don't have to do anything except vote for Hillary by writing her name in on election day.  No one can stop any of us from doing that and maybe in 2012 the party will realize that women have money, women can vote for a third party, and women will not be denied their candidate.  So I say go Hillary.  Support Obama all day long.  No one is going to tell me how to vote.  I'm voting for you on election day.   They're going to blame you no matter what happens because you just can't win.  I'm glad that Hillary was at least allowed to play the game.  And she's got my write-in vote on election day.  I'm sick and tired of "reporters" trying to tell me the outcome of everything.  I will exercise my democratic right to vote on election day and it will be to write-in Hillary.
Does John McCain know that there is a new invention called the TV?  Does he also know that there is an even newer new fangled device (or devices), that can show tapes of things like say - oh, Sen Obama's speech in Berlin?  The speech where he clearly states his pride in and confidence in the United States of America?  Does he not understand that the media can easily debunk this statement that he made today?  Does he not care that it is an out and out lie?

Does he think that the American people are so stupid and apathetic that everyone will just accept whatever he says at face value -- or because he was a POW?

Sen McCain is beginning to show his contempt for the American people.  I really believe that.  I have never supported Sen McCain - but now I not only DO NOT support him, I am beginning to really actively dislike him.

ENOUGH!!!!

Obama/Biden '08!!!!!!!
All of you who feel the need to knock Hillary should stop!  You'll need her around to blame when obama loses in Nov.

What are the differences politically between the platforms of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama?  Not a whit.  These PUMA folks are idiots.  Good riddance.

If Hillary Clinton costs us the election...good luck getting a shot in 2012!  Democrats have long memories...
C'mon guys you can say it

they are easy to spot because they are the ones who seem a little "off".

Now that I have seen them up close...I realize they really are coocoo.
Facts? When have facts ever gotten in the way of the Obama campaign? Obama is an arrogant, inexperienced, loudmouthed, cocky, do-nothing. There are your facts.
--------------------------------------------------
Anyone with intelligence knows those are opinions, not facts. You should look up definitions before you throw around big words like 'facts'.
McCain is too old and his ditto-head Cindy is a brainless airhead....

Obama isn't exactly a prize to us Hillary lovers, but he's not gonna wreck our country like McCain would by continuing what Bush & Cheney did the last 7 yrs
I get a real laugh out of the clueless ones who post here that Moronic Joe kicks butt against Olbermann or anyone.  Only a total airhead would read or take credence in the sludgereport, gutter journalism at it's worst.

First Read and MSNBC rocks!  Well except when Moronic Joe is on the tube being a total boob himself.  Hopefully Moronic Joe is quickly wearing out his welcome here at MSNBC and will soon will relegated to the sewer that is Fox News where he really belongs!

Go Obama/Biden 08/12!
PUMAs need to get a life.

Agreed, the Clintons run the real risk here.
If they come off even vaguely petulant, their legacy is over now.

The Obama folks, I can assure you, already knew how to win without the Clintons before they asked them to speak.

Sure, Obama is a swell fellow, charitable to losers and all, but he knew exactly what he was doing.

The surprise ahead in this campaign may well be just how much and to what degree he knows what he is doing.

I'm beginning to realize that a lot of this hype about 'angry Hillary supporters' is pumped up by MSM. Not because they like Clintons, or Repubs, or Obama for that matter. It just sells good, yunno, it adds to excitement.
FR

Please stop reporting about these fringe clowns - and for that matter the party disunity stories. They are not helpful and lend insight to the tabloid edge you guys need to stay away from.

Most reasonable people can be disappointed in Obama and still know deeply that he is the only choice in this election. Plenty of nutjobs to take notes on....

Geez
