PUMAs drown their sorrows at GOP event

Posted: Tuesday, August 26, 2008 7:06 PM by Mark Murray

From NBC's Cherelle Kantey
DENVER -- Last night, in another effort to fan the flames of tension between Obama and Clinton supporters, the Republican National Committee held a "Happy Hour for Hillary,"

About 75 people floated in and out of the hip Paramount Café here to share drinks and trade viewpoints. The mostly female crowd of Hillary supporters flanked in Hillary buttons and “Nobama” stickers were willing to share their woes with all who would listen.

“We worked hard together,” said Kathy Archuleta, who recalled making numerous phone calls as a volunteer and loaning the campaign money. “It couldn’t have been very easy for her to just drop it.”

Wearing a brown T-shirt with "Hillary" written across it in blue, Archuleta said she was outraged that Sen. Clinton’s historic run for the presidency ended in heartbreak. “Women are realizing we’re not being recognized. We’re being treated like second-class citizens.”

Among the crowd of middle-aged women stood Wayne Singleton, an African-American male, who said he can’t throw his support behind Sen. Obama because of flaws in the nominating system. Singleton, an organizer for People of Color PUMAS, said that since Obama didn’t win the popular vote during the primary season, he is prepared to protest the DNC’s decision by voting for John McCain. (Actually, Obama won the popular vote by almost every metric, except for the one that counted Hillary Clinton's vote in Michigan, where Obama wasn't on the ballot.)

“As a protest, I’m telling the DNC that I’m not going to reward you for a process that’s flawed, and for pushing a candidate that’s experienced out,” Singleton said, noting that adding Biden to the ticket doesn’t complement Obama’s lack of foreign policy experience. “Joe Biden is not going to put experience into someone who’s not experienced.”

The most passionate was Robin Carlson, who said she is furious that people have let their admiration for Barack Obama outweigh his lack of experience. “This is a country. This isn’t who’s your favorite rock star,” said Carlson. “This is serious business.”

An organizer for GrassrootsforHillary.com, Carlson has already started contributing funds for a 2012 Hillary campaign, because she said she is so angry about the DNC decision to name Sen. Obama the presumptive Democratic nominee. (But the DNC never named Obama the presumptive nominee; in fact, he won more pledged delegates than Clinton did.)

“It’s beyond anger. I’m despondent,” said Carlson, while sipping her white wine. “There’s a great sadness that the party I belong to is operated in a way that’s not democratic.”

Carlson also shared an emotional story about surviving uterine cancer, and how her battle with cancer made her identify closely with Sen. Clinton’s fight for the White House. “I entered this year writing my own funeral plans,” Carlson said tearfully. “When I saw Hillary fight, I said ‘if she can fight, then so can I.’”

By the end of the night, the party emptied out and one Obama delegate trickled in. Brian Spittler, a 24-year old delegate from Utah, didn’t seem too bothered by the angry Hillary supporters, or even the McCain campaign representatives decked out in McCain T-shirts, drinking beers in the corner.

“The story is overblown,” said Spittler. “Some people are hurt but by and large everyone is coming together.”

NEWS BREAK!!!

75 women escape from the loony bin. No site of them yet but some say they were kidnapped by the McCain campaign who offered them drugs to lure them in..
Call crimestoppers for any tips!!
Why is so much attention being given to such a small percentage of voters?  This irresponsible journalism. Is the media is trying to create a controversy when there really isn't one.  These stories belong on "Entertainment Tonight" not on a well respected news network.

The over-whelming majority of Clinton supporters will be voting for Obama. Now let's get back to the real news.
McCain is making too many mistakes.  He is a quality guy, after all, but he just keeps making mistakes.  This Pumas stuff is stupid, but, it is a trend for him. A few weeks ago, Obama spoke to 200m Germans, and that Sunday, Mc's gal was calling Ob an isolationist/protectionist, or something.  Ob is rising above all this, showing his Management skills, and that's why I've been supporting Ob since January.
I did know any idiots like Wayne Singleton were alive today, this man did not go to school at all,he should at least learn to count,is this what they call an uncle tom or an idiot.

Yeah, I agree that this guy Singleton definitely sounds like an UNCLE CLARENCE THOMAS

OBAMA 08/12
let's face it someone had to lose, if your a Hillery supporter don't lose twice by not voting or by voting for Sen McCain this country is hurting and
we can not afford four more years of bush type policies.
Remember why you are a Democrat! will you be able to
look into a mothers eyes who just lost a child in
Iraq knowing you could have stop that war but you were mad so you voted against your true beliefs
How about the family who no longer have a home
or the father/mother who lost their job to someone
in a foreign country or the family who has lost
everything because of medical bills
REMEBER YOU ARE A DEMOCRAT BECAUSE YOU HAVE A HEART
I don't get why some First Readers have such a problem with Joe Scarbourgh and Pat Buchanan. Personally, I like my ideas challenged and, for the most part when you consider their background, they do a reasonably fair job. Don't get me wrong. I need a strong dose of Olbermann to counter an endless stream of neocon crap. However, it's just as important to try to understand where reasonable people with a different point-of-view are coming from. I also like professionalism. Chris, David, Keith and Joe need to check their gigantic egos at the door.
Why does the press persist in giving these PUMA types a podium?  It isn't as if this is truly a big movement and really newsworthy.

Conflict...like sex...sells.  No one reports anymore news anymore.  And the saddest part is the general public twitters for this garbage like ravenous baby birds clamoring for more and more.

Sure the press is to blame for fanning flames like this.  But so are we for indulging them and consuming what they peddle.
75 people, not all of which were actual PUMAs.  And, yet, the media has made this THE story of the convention.  Aren't you people ashamed of yourselves?  You're not journalists; you're village idiots.
Obama is going to tank regardless of Hillary supporters.  He isn't going to bring in the independents as easily as he thought.  McCain is going to tear him apart in the debates and Biden's mouth is going to run worse than Bill's did during the primaries.

So Hillary supporters don't want to vote for him?  So what?

Perhaps the Obama supporters should stop whining about Clinton supporters not wanting to vote for him.  It's unbecoming and reflects poorly upon their candidate.  More of their energy should be spent convincing their friends and others why to vote for Obama instead of acting like snots on the playground pointing at nerds.
Am I the only one who is surprised that my favorite network-MSNBC-is covering and inserting viewpoints that are more Republican than Democratic? Imagine my surprise when I tuned in today and I got to see Chris Mathews interviewing Mitt Romney, I didn't tune in to watch a Republican-if I wanted his opinion I would tune in to Fox news-come on you guys-you've got Buchannan, Berger and several other devote Republicans covering a Democratic convention-I hope you keep the same ratio of Dems vrs Repo next week you've lost me as a fan?
I guess many of you have forgotten the backroom abortions, girls were dying all over. To vote for John (only POW in American's history) McCain is throwing away a vote.  Staying home would be better.  GET OVER IT, HILLARY LOST.  She didn't take her competition seriously.
The behavior of these self proclaimed Hillary supporters goes beyond being "sore losers." This is our nation at stake in this election, not some silly game where voters can "sit it out" or "vote McCain" when their candidate loses the race. But what more did we expect from the Clintons and the fools who believe their lies and spin.

For as long as America has known the name Clinton it has been a documented and indisputable fact that Hillary Clinton is absolutely the most polarizing individual in modern politics. And it is attitudes like those of her "supporters," who refuse to face the reality that she lost this race by her own incompetence and not some hyped up unfair selection process on the part of the DNC, that perpetuate their own discomfort and may well lead to the downfall of this country should the Democrats not prevail in November.

Simple it begins and ends the Clintons!

You PUMAs are trite and insignificant.
Emilou Harris, Tulsa OK

Obama will work with Democrats, including Hillary, for the same things that you voted for with Hillary.

Unless you were not a Democrats who's voting for equal pay for women, health care, jobs, etc.

Remember, Democrats with as a team!
Keep convincing yourselves that in this year when practically ANY Democrat could have won the WH, yours still will.  He's not who the heart of this Party wants.

Actually...he is.  Your bitterness and need to cling to the familiar has made you blind and close minded.  You are like a little kid with her fingers in her ears crying "LalalalalalalaIm not listeninglalalala".

It was amusing at first.  But personally, I am begining to thing you are like EconomicDonna...paid repub spud.
Let them cry about whatever. I just don't want to hear this idiocy anymore. What PUMAs don't realize is that if Obama loses in November, the 18 million Obama supporters will not vote for Hillary in 2012, and I garantee you that we will have another new candidate that will be more interesting than her. As a matter of fact, in 2004 nobody suspected Obama could even run for the presidency. So, what about Bob Casey in 2012.
I don't understand how the voting process wasn't democratic. More people voted for Obama. That includes a state where he wasn't on the ballot.

It's classic kindegarten thinking.  "If I didnt win, then the rules arent fair."

Someone please tell me how this election cycle process is Obamas' fault! The same process has been in effect for years, for both Bill Clinton's election, Al Gore's election and Kerry's election.  Not until a woman ran for office(don't get me wrong a damn good candiate)and lost was the process flawed. The rules was agreed to by both Hillary and Barack even before the first vote was counted. So please explain to me how you can say Hillary did not get a fair shake?
