McCain: So who exactly is the celebrity?

Posted: Wednesday, August 27, 2008 9:29 AM by Domenico Montanaro

The McCain campaign may contend that Obama is the "biggest celebrity" in the presidential race, NBC/NJ’s Adam Aigner-Treworgy notes, but its candidate has spent most of this week hobnobbing with as many GOP celebrities as his campaign can find.

On Monday, McCain kicked off the Democratic Convention with an endorsement from Puerto Rican Reggaeton star Daddy Yankee. He then hopped on a plane to fly up north for a fundraiser in Sacramento with Patricia Heaton (from “Everybody Loves Raymond”) and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Heaton then traveled to Burbank, CA on McCain's Straight Talk Jet Monday afternoon to attend a fundraiser at the Beverly Hilton featuring stars from both big and small screens. Those in attendance included Robert Duvall, Gary Sinise, Stephen Baldwin, Craig T. Nelson, Dean Cain (Lois and Clark), Jon Cryer, and long-time McCain supporter Wilford Brimley.

Then on Tuesday, McCain raised money in his hometown of Phoenix and was introduced by TV and movie star Angie Harmon and her husband, long time NY Giants defensive back Jason Sehorn. Capping off the star-studded start to the week, McCain took a brief afternoon trip to San Diego yesterday, making a surprise appearance at a fundraiser hosted by John Voigt.

Politico reports that McCain “is planning to rollout his vice-presidential nominee in three battleground states this weekend, with large-scale rallies planned for Ohio, Pennsylvania and Missouri, according to aides and advisers. The GOP nominee-in-waiting will move to immediately change the campaign conversation from Barack Obama’s football stadium acceptance speech Thursday to the new Republican ticket, to be revealed at a noontime Friday rally in a Dayton, Ohio, basketball arena. McCain and his running mate will then travel by bus to Pennsylvania, where they’ll hold an outdoor event at a minor league baseball stadium in Washington County, just southwest of Pittsburgh. On Sunday, the duo will head to suburban St. Louis for another event to be held at a minor league baseball stadium, this one in O’Fallon, Mo.”

Yesterday, McCain assailed Obama on several fronts, spoke of the Cold War -- and got in a POW reference. Some excerpts: "'The next president must bring to office a clear-eyed view of our nation's role in the world as the defender of the oppressed and a force for peace,' McCain told the American Legion national convention, which Obama is to address today.

"The presumptive Republican nominee pointed out that Obama asserted in his Berlin speech last month that the Cold War ended because major nations came together. 'Now I missed a few years of the Cold War as a guest of one of our adversaries, but as I recall the world was deeply divided during the Cold War - between the side of freedom and the side of tyranny. The Cold War ended not because the world stood as one but because the great democracies came together, bound together by sustained and decisive American leadership."

"[W]herever Romney went yesterday, from a downtown luncheon with several dozen reporters, to the Republican Party's 'Not Ready '08' press conference, he faced questions about whether his primary-campaign attacks on McCain will hurt his chances to become the vice presidential nominee. Romney's responses, monitored by McCain's aides, sometimes sounded like a dress rehearsal for the job."

Can you imagine 4 years of "I was a POW". It would be like being trapped in a corner at a party for 4 years.
Senator John Sidney McCain III (AZ)

John McCain needs a Nay Vote from all Americans..He's a liar and a pandering liar.
He has that liars experience we are sick of...
Yesterday, McCain assailed Obama on several fronts, spoke of the Cold War -- and got in a POW reference.
*******************************************************

And this is news?  Sounds like the same McCain that I've been hearing for the past few weeks... 'more wars... and did I mention my POW experience?'

Thank you First Read - i always like to know who is supporting which candidate, I'm rather prinicipled, don't watch Tom Selleck anything, and I won't be watching anything these folks are in either.  good info, true Democrats need to know who to boycot - and I most certainly do boycot any performer, actor, or artist who supports any repugnant.
Barack is the celebrity. It looked like the paparazzi chasing him around all of Europe a few weeks ago. Obama does his speeches in open stadiums to accomadate is adoring, and obviously unemployed, fanatics. Obama brags how many people are at his events. Obama is the celebrity.
Wilford Brimley?  Maybe he can get the space ship from "Cocoon" back and they can BOTH get the hell outta here!  McCain was also looking for Don Ameche.  He'd had a brain cramp and forgot that Don Ameche's been DEAD for 20 years!  Then again, so is McCain's brain.
Hob knobbing with all these celebrities kind of makes me think that McSame is not ready to be CIC.
Obama is ALWAYS ready to talk... but never ready to lead America... Give him 24 years more and come back again to run again for President and then he will have enough experience to run the country.
Not enough positive to talk about with Obama, so First Read makes up this tripe about McCain being a celebrity.
SO WHO EXACTLY IS THE CELEBRITY?
Is this really a Question. most of the people sited here are b-list at best.
And I think the who celebrity question goes to the Idolization of Obama by the Media. Not who knows the most Celebrities.
Yeah, that's the ticket. Mccain and wilford Brimley. That would be awesum. Just picture it.
Well, other than the legendary Robert Duvall, it would appear being a "celebrity" Republican is reserved for B-List TV stars.

Wilford Brimley, of oatmeal (for your colon health), diabetes supplies (billed directly to your Medicare)and Cocoon (olld people swim with pods) fame? Is McThuselah sure he wants to make that connection?
Celebrities?? C-listers at best.  Bunch of syndicated has-beens, including John (didya hear i was a pow?) McBush.

While Michelle might have watched the Brady Bunch as a child, McCain now parties with the "stars" of the show.
What crowd gathering event does he plan to crash this time?

Unenthusiastic is the only way to describe him and his tired campaign.  Oh well, he reminds me of Bob Dole more and more each day.  Well except for the part where Dole actually was pretty funny.
Let's get our engines revved to attack during the republican convention.  Don't wait counter, begin on the offensive and keep it going throughout.

Keep the truth out there but be decisive in the attack.

And like I heard Jessie Jackson say one day at a convention, "Keep Hope Alive".

Obama '08!
It pains me to criticize you for this, but here it goes. OK John we get it. You were a POW. I have great respect for you, but now it appears that you throw out the POW tag every time you speak. I am starting to believe that you are diminishing the horrible times and conditions that you endured. A bad comparison, but it's like you are the high school quarterback who is reliving that one season and can't move on wit his life. The Presidency is not based on the past (your time in a POW camp). It is based on the future (moving America forward).
In polling does McCain POW status rank high?  It seems like his campaign has made sure he continues to use this in every context.

My question to McCain supporters is how does being a POW prepair you for being President?  (Do not answer with other issues.  See if any Republican can answer a question with infromation to the question asked.  I know those on TV can't)
"On Monday, McCain kicked off the Democratic Convention with an endorsement from Puerto Rican Reggaeton star Daddy Yankee."
------------------------------------------------------
And the Misogynist Express has a new theme song.
What a perfect endorsement for a candidate that already has been called out for rotten treatment of women- ha!

Mike Huckabee is probably already rallying the values voters- and not in a good way.  Seriously, whoever sought out that endorsement for Senator McCain ought to be fired for incompetence, or rewarded by anti-McCain groups for subterfuge.
Perception is the name of the game, and the Republicans know how to play it.

Democrats never get this....they always lose because of this.

Obama will lose.  I am more convinced of that now than ever.  Although I will vote for him, I do so knowing I am casting a losing vote.

Hillary/Warner 2012!
Can I hear BHO's position on whether the 2 provinces of Georgia should be allowed to become independent? Will he stand on the principal of Georgia's territorial sovereignty or will he accept a compromise?  His supporters may be impressed by his wisdom and judgment but going by his track record (FISA, Farm Bill, Oil Bill, Campaign Finance) I doubt he'll stick to any principals.
Most of those on the side of tyranny had no choice of being on that side.

PS: Gorbechev had as much to do with ending the Cold War as did Reagan.
sounds like mcain has stadium envy
Yeah, I think the house gaffe trumped the celebrity card. No more of this foolishness. God, McCain has no credibility at all.

And again
Noun
Verb
POW

http://www.rodneyhopper.com
Why doesn't the Obama campaign run a "celebrity...not" ad on McCain? One with all the "stumbles..super market gaff...sunni shite...viagra...number of houses"? It's so much stuff on this guy...funny stuff.
Also, Mcsame was on Leno for the umpeenth time lately, whining about his forty-years-ago POW thing (ad nauseum) instead of answering Leno's question about how many houses he had. Leno must run non-celebrities now, instead of superstars like Obama, who've never been on the show.
McCain is living in the past...like a "OLDE Football Star" from his High School and now it's the 40 year class reunion and he's still trying to get in his old jersey.....It doesn't fit today!!!! Mr. McCain, retire and enjoy your latter years....oh, and make amends with your first wife.... You did here wrong!!!
Noun, verb, POW!

Hypocrisy, thy name is Republican.  Obama's a celebrity, but I'll do a fund-raiser with The Governator.

Riiiiiiiiight.
Vietnam Veterans Against John McCain Please listen to this video about this Scum Bag Traitor.

McCain's claim that Obama is nothing but an empty-suited celebrity was bunk from the beginning.  For years, McCain has been hamming up for any television camera he could find.  He's the one making cameo appearances in movies and sitcoms and hobnobbing with Hollywood types.  Furthermore, Obama has far more detailed, well-thought policies for addressing issues like education and the environment than does McCain, whose platform seems to consist of three principles: lots of war and militarism, cut taxes for the super-wealthy, and pack the courts with super-right wingers.  Other than that, he has nothing to say about much of anything.
So let me get this straight. McCain harrasses the man about going to see the troops et.. and when they like and support Obama overseas, he's a celebrity? WTF is on McCains brain?

McSurge/POW or someone in his campaign has serious issues. Did he not complain about him not going to see them or was this a set up?
" Defender of the oppressed and
A force for Peace", too bad oppressed americans are not part of this equation.
So what nation with oil
will our troops liberated next?
More of the same repetitive rhetoric that sounds like Cheney and company.
I guess we need to fix the world first and then all our problems here will just go away.
America first John, don't you get it, oh you do, more tax cuts for oil.
I'm perhaps hoping for too much, but I believe that the American people are smart enough to eventually realize that John McCain is an attention hungry, womanizing, bloodthirsty, town idiot.
Anyone familiar with McCain knows that he is the REAL celebrity.  He enjoys the limelight more than Obama does.

McCain's life is all about him - his trophy wife, his seven houses, his career...that's not a surprise.
So, after demeaning Sen. Obama for his appearances in Germany and other places that drew the "big crowds" I guess McCain decided if you can't beat BO by attacking him for this, he would try to follow his lead. How hipocritical can you get. McCain's is beginning to look worse by the day.
Puerto Rican Reggaeton star Daddy Yankee, some Yankee you ain’t; Yankees fought for independence from the British Crown; john McCain will has the  vulgar, commonplace empire,  mindset of controlling subject races and vassal states, in which one class must forever rule and other classes must forever obey.  As much as your county has been pounced on, how can you support this vile man?

No way no how no McCain!
Nobody but Obama
Obama/Biden 08/12
It's clear that the only way McCain can fill a stadium is to get a small stadium.  He probably won't even fill those minor league ballparks.
Dean Cain, Craig T. Nelson, and Wilford Brimley.  Wow, those are some real "A Listers."  I wonder how many rabid Dean Cain fans will change their vote from Obama to McCain.  What a joke!

Obama/Biden!!
It amazes me that republicans are trying to play that card seeing as their idol ronald reagan was a hollywood movie star...Are you kidding me? McCain has been in actual blockbuster movies...Are you kidding? What sorta dunce cant see that it is a fraud and they are trying to pull wool over your eyes.

McCain could light his hair on fire and garner little media attention.  Watching mccain is about as exciting as watching paint dry. He's like the spoiled kid screaming for attention - or like a fly, buzzin' and botherin'.
McCain thinks that the electorate is as ignorant and forgetful as he is. We all know who is elitist and who the celebrity reakkt usis. After all, he's a walking, noun, verb, and POW!

A vote for this "sidekick" is a vote to send our country further down the path of destruction.

JOHN MCCAIN - NOT READY TO LEAD AND NEVER WILL BE!

OBAMA/BIDEN 08
McCain is obsessed with celebrity.

There's no other way to explain it. I don't think any previous candidate from either party would have felt the need to engage Paris Hilton in a back n forth. And you can probably add the third-party nut-jobs into that statement as well.

Its pretty bad when the Republicans run someone this time with less maturity than the litany of previous Green, Libertarian, Constitution, Socialist, and Reform candidates.
Yeah, and city workers in O'Fallon will have to power wash the stadium and the streets to get McBush's oil/money stained finger prints off of everything.

A lot of wish he'd stay the heck away from our town.
I remember Patricia Heaton.  She was on "Everybody Loves Raymond".  I remember her well, because that was a strong cast...except for her.  She was painfully difficult to watch.

No matter.  I thought that the Republicans eschewed Hollywood types, I guess until they think that someone likes Patricia Heaton has enough "star power" to help them.  And in her case, that is pretty laughable.
McCain “is planning to rollout his vice-presidential nominee"

in a wheelchair?
It doesn't matter what I do....get it!  Charles Keating, what a guy.  So what if I crashed five jets, let's see someone else in the military get away with that! I went without and didn't have my bow or my fiddle for years....I was a Peee OH DoubleU.  It doesn't matter cause I'm going to get away with it and it is all good here in John McCain land.  Maybe if you people suffer a little more you'll get it and I'll be there if you give me your vote. (suckers)
Am I the only one getting sick and tired of hearing John McCain defend any criticism about any subject by saying "Well when I was a POW...". That can't be his defense to everything.  I didn't think it was that bad until that interview with Jay Leno... he pulled it out one too many times.
"Elitist" McCain and his wife are the true elitists of the campaign.  These spoiled rich brats never had to work for anything.  Tailhook Johnny rode his Daddy's and Granddaddy's admiral coattails into the Navy and could barely graduate by the skin of his teeth at the bottom of his class.  "Original Paris Hilton" Cindy had to have her Daddy Beerbucks give her a business to run because she never could have gotten a job otherwise.

"Celebrity POW" McCain didn't come home early when he had the chance out of any sense of patriotism or heroism, he knew full well had he came home early he would have been branded the new Benedict Arnold.  He stayed because of self preservation and no other reason.

After proving completely incompetent as a fighter jock the Navy gave him a command in a backwater place where he couldn't lose any more valuable military hardware than he already had.  The Navy back then knew he was incompetent but gave him a command because he was a Celebrity POW and his Daddy was an admiral.  He got into politics because he'd worn out his welcome in the Navy and was nothing but a deadender who had reached his zenith in rank.

When "White Collar Criminal" McCain got caught up in the Keating 5 scandal the media was too wimpy to push investigating this false war hero and uncovering his corrupt part in that nefarious scandal.

The Obamas did work their way up the social ladder from meager middle class beginnings while the McCain's were spolied brats born into privilege and handed their jobs on silver platters.

The Middle Class should not be fooled by these elitists who have spent their lives dedicated to keeping the middle class under their thumbs.  Only Obama/Biden will protect and serve the middle class.

Go Obama/Biden 08/12!
"'The next president must bring to office a clear-eyed view of our nation's role in the world as the defender of the oppressed and a force for peace"

There's a reason other countries hate us. Its because we can't mind our business. We think we can fix everyone else while our own land slowly goes to hell. They think we're hypocrits.

I'm just saying
This guy McPOW is the most famous POP in the world (Prisoner Of the Past) he can only lead us back no vision for the future.
Just curious.  Are any of these "celeberties" still in the bussiness?  Isn't Wilford Brimley the man from the Smuckers commercial?  No endorsements of anyone, just curoius.
