Biden talks to PA delegation, jokes about age

Posted: Thursday, August 28, 2008 2:28 PM by Mark Murray
Filed Under:

From NBC/NJ's Mike Memoli
DENVER -- Feeling comfortable speaking to the delegation from what he said was his second home, Joe Biden made light of Obama’s relative youth as he joked about his own early start in politics.

Biden said that after he was picked as Obama’s running mate, he asked his staff to look up the speech he made when he announced his candidacy for the Senate in 1972. And reading it, he found great similarity between his message than and Obama’s today.

“The truth of the matter, it’s a natural fit,” Biden said. “Barack Obama could have made that speech were he alive in 1972.”

He laughed, and quickly clarified that Obama was, in fact, alive at the time.

“By the way, if I hear one more time he was 11 years old when I went to the Senate, I’m going to smack somebody,” he continued.

Biden talked about growing up in Scranton and hearing his extended family talking about politics around the dinner table. He only left, he said, because he lived only blocks away from the Casey family, and, “I knew only one great person came out of Scranton and it wasn’t gonna be me.”

Biden said the Keystone State would determine the election, and promised that the full arsenal of the well-stocked Obama campaign would be put to work there.

“You’re going to have all the resources this campaign has available to us. That’s the good news,” he said. “And the bad news is you’re going to have a whole hell of a lot of me because I’m coming home.”

In fact, the Obama-Biden campaign heads to Pennsylvania tomorrow to start a post-convention tour.

Dobson crony prays for rain on Obama's acceptance speech
I don't think God would want to be used for a political prank. But that's exactly what James Dobson crony, Stuart Shephard, is calling for in this video. Dobson has pulled the video from the Focus on the Family web site, but someone else had it already and I downloaded it for posterity's sake.

http://www.alan.com/2008/08/17/dobson-embarrassed-after-telling-us-to-pray-for-rain/

NEW ORLEANS — On the eve of Hurricane Katrina's third anniversary, a nervous New Orleans watched Wednesday as another storm threatened to test everything the city has rebuilt, and officials made plans to evacuate people, pets and hospitals in an attempt to avoid a Katrina-style chaos.

Forecasters warned that Gustav could grow into a dangerous Category 3 hurricane in the next several days and hit somewhere along a swath of the Gulf Coast from the Florida Panhandle to Texas _ with New Orleans smack in the middle.

Dobson urges his flock to pray for rain during Obama's speech thursday.

What does God send?

A Category 4 Hurricane to hit the Gulf Coast during the first two days of the Republican Convention.

Tropical Storm Gustav may regain hurricane status. This Hurricane will send a clear message a to the GOP next week.

It will remind everyone of Katrina I hope no one gets hurt though. It will take the news away from the Meeting of the Top Crime Family's in Minn. next week!

I love how real Joe Biden is.  And Obama... I'm from Illinois.  I have liked him since he first took office for us.  He's done well for my state.  Go Obama!

When I look at McCain...  He doesn't seem real to me.  His smile is too big, it looks like it hurts him.  And some of his lame jokes... i.e. Bomb bomb Iran... that was terrible!  Bad joke, bad sentiment.  He's like the old uncle at a family reunion that everyone is avoiding.
Biden:: “By the way, if I hear one more time he was 11 years old when I went to the Senate, I’m going to smack somebody,” he continued.

Joe needs some anger management classes. He clearly has some deep anger problems, and a personality disorder. He fits with Obama nicely though in that each one of them are deeply in love with themselves.

Did Joe do the Freudian slip gag again where he calles McCain "Bush"? That bit is a absolute riot. But it's now getting old after, what, the 97th time he's done it.
McCain Adviser: There Are No Uninsured Americans

Texas once again led the nation with the highest percentage of residents without health insurance, a U.S. Census Bureau report showed Tuesday, although the same study also reports a slight dip last year in the percentage without coverage across the nation.

...

But the numbers are misleading, said John Goodman, president of the National Center for Policy Analysis, a right-leaning Dallas-based think tank. Mr. Goodman, who helped craft Sen. John McCain's health care policy, said anyone with access to an emergency room effectively has insurance, albeit the government acts as the payer of last resort. (Hospital emergency rooms by law cannot turn away a patient in need of immediate care.)

"So I have a solution. And it will cost not one thin dime," Mr. Goodman said. "The next president of the United States should sign an executive order requiring the Census Bureau to cease and desist from describing any American - even illegal aliens - as uninsured. Instead, the bureau should categorize people according to the likely source of payment
So much for Obama wanting to get away from Washington insiders and the same old politics.  Will the dems quit making snide remarks about McCain's age, now?
Hah Hah Hah, looks like the clueless evangelical christian lunatic fringe have been forsaken by their false god as Mother Nature reigns supreme as the goddess of good weather for Barack's speech tonight outdoors--Eric, Salinas CA

Little worried about PA Barack?
Did anyone hear John Kerry's zing to McBush?

We're voting for judgement and character, not years on

I couldn't stop laughing!! Hillarious

Joe O'Biden will chew up McCain and any lackey they

try to line up.
Joe Biden is a perfect fit for Obama, despite the cries that he has been a part of the Beltway for over 30 years.

Senator Biden looks fit and physically and mentally ready to take on the Rethuglican Attack Machine. His mother was adorable and I can see where the Biden Fire comes from.  So glad he is on our team!

NO WAY, NO HOW, NO MCCAIN!
I have to say I'm liking Biden more and more as the choice. I was kind of wait and see but now I think he'll be a huge asset.

The Obama campaign is cranking up and based on their skill in the primary I think it will be exciting to watch and studied in poli sci classes after.

This country will begin to come alive after years of being squashed under the Bush-Cheney regime. American lost its way after 9-11 through disastrous leadership and intimidation; now it really is a future of possibilities.
Nobama,

You said you were enthusiastically impressed with Obama until the 'Wright' controversy.....that he must be a racist, and that you could not forgive him for it, then go on to pontificate how loving, and forgiving,  'The Lord Our Father' is.

Yet you have incessantly posted angry comments about how he is not experienced, and therefore you cannot support him, for many months now.

Which is it?

Your rage has unbalanced you. You simply have no credibilty.

Knock it out of the park Biden!
I'm very happy to have Biden as the Vice Presidential Nominee.

FIRST READ:  Amazing to me, you have your policy here posted about screening the posts about what's acceptable and not. I've complained numerous times about the foul descriptions CA and Capn Smash have used about Cindy McCain; you keep on letting them through.

Today, I've sent many msgs I've written and not a one posted.  They had no swear words them, no character assassinations, no attacks on the people posting.  The msgs did not have positives about Obama.  So much for freedom of speech and proof of your bias for Obama.

I did want to know FIRST READ when you are going to do a page on the Ayers ad and Obama et al going to the justice dept to try to get it off the air. Obama using his senate position and role as presidential nominee bypasses the FCC, where the complaint should go, and goes straight to the Justice Dept.  In the meantime, Kurts who is researching the Ayers  connection is being harassed by Obama staff to stop publishing info.  When asked why they want it stop, the only answer is that...we want it stopped.  when asked if anything Kurts has written is inaccurate, they repeat the same robotic answer...we want it stopped.  Of course, though, FR wouln't publish anything to show that the man who is professing he will uphold the Constitution is trying to use his privilege to stomp on somebody's right to freedom of speech.
Got to love Joe Biden and his quick wit.  He will be such a refreshing change from "Darth Vader" Cheney as we finally get a VP who won't hide behind a veil of secrecy so we can't tell how badly he's screwing us.  What a wonderful change for the better our country will have once Obama/Biden send "Bush Hugger" McCain and whatever creep he finally picks into political oblivion.

I can't wait for tonight's Daily Show and Colbert Report to see what nonsense Moronic Joe has perpetrated lately.  Pretty sad that MSNBC has now become the butt of jokes on these shows rather than CNN or Fox.  Moronic Joe is doing Rupert Murdock's bidding by helping to destroy the credibility of MSNBC news.  Dump Joe and give Chuck Todd a show of his own.  The more I watch and listen to Chuck Todd the more I like his professional approach to giving us the news.  I was so glad I could catch Chucky T. this morning and see his whole show.

Go Obama/Biden 08/12!
And I don't care if Barack is a rock star

We don't need an old fuddie duddie with rotten pipes and head cheese..He can't even remember what house he used viagra in...
I just can't say enough how much I love this guy!!  Joe Biden rocks!!  What an incredible team the Dems have!!  And what a sight that was on stage last night when all the Bidens came out!!  I can only imagine the good times had when that family gets together, knowing many large Irish families myself.  Salt of the Earth!!  Love it!!

By the way, look for our team to do better in AZ than you might think!
I love this guy...........
You go Joe.......

McCain's son resigns two bank board posts

By JOHN G. EDWARDS
REVIEW-JOURNAL
Andrew McCain, son of Republican presidential candidate John McCain, on Saturday resigned from the boards of Silver State Bancorp of Henderson and Silver State Bank for "personal reasons," the holding company said.

Calls seeking comment from Andrew McCain weren't returned. A spokesman for Silver State said the company wouldn't elaborate on its announcement.

Andrew McCain was appointed chairman of the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce, starting this month.

The younger McCain is chief financial officer of Phoenix-based Hensley & Co., a large beer distributorship. Critics have said John McCain would face a conflict of interest as president because of his wife's ownership of the beer distributorship, according to the Los Angeles Times.

However, there weren't any indications that Andrew McCain's resignation from Silver State's boards was related to his father's presidential campaign.

Andrew McCain, formerly director of Scottsdale, Arizona-based Choice Bank, joined Silver State's boards in February after the Henderson bank acquired Choice Bank.

The senator's son owned 1,226 Silver State shares of stock, according to the company's latest report to the Securities and Exchange Commission. That investment was worth more than $1,500 on Friday when the Nasdaq stock market closed.

Shares in Silver State and other publicly owned bank holding companies in Southern Nevada have lost most of their value over the past year as they reported increasing numbers of problem loans.

I like Joe Biden. I like his down-to-earth manner, his family values, and his desire to do what's best for the country even if it causes personal sacrifice. He seems like a sweet man, and I was touched by the remarks of his son, Beau. Obama and Biden will make a great team.

Such a sharp contrast to the Republicans, who seem so mean all the time. One would think all that money and all that power would make them a happier bunch.
Did anyone read what one of Sen McCain's top advisors stated:

A health care policy advisor for the McCain campaign told a newspaper reporter that nobody in the United States is technically uninsured, because everyone has access to hospital emergency rooms.

"So I have a solution [to the health care crisis]. And it will cost not one thin dime," John Goodman, president of the National Center for Policy Analysis, told the Dallas Morning News in an interview published Thursday.

"The next president of the United States should sign an executive order requiring the Census Bureau to cease and desist from describing any American – even illegal aliens – as uninsured. Instead, the bureau should categorize people according to the likely source of payment should they need care. So, there you have it. Voila! Problem solved."

Hospital emergency rooms cannot technically turn away anyone for financial reasons.

"So instead of producing worthless statistics that people fling around in vacuous editorials and pointless debates, the Census Bureau should produce meaningful numbers, identifying all of the sources of funds people will draw on if they need medical care," said Goodman, who helped write McCain’s health care plan.

Sounds like not only does Sen McCain think the economy is doing well for all American's but that we should go to the hospital everytime we are medical care and collect a large bill we can not pay. Nice policy.

Senator Biden you have aged with wisdom and knowledge. John McCain has aged with impoliteness, bitterness, feeble –mindednesses, and stupidity. You are a public servant; while John McCain’s role as CIC would be as that of a puppet to big oil and corporations…

Obama/Ayers Freedom of Speech story...

Perhaps they are waiting until McAge releases his military records for all to see,or, perhaps they are waiting until the truth is revealed about McAge's confinement as a POW!

Either of these would make a fascinating story.

You rightwing creeps are so sick!!

Who would send their wife to a war torn country with a cast on her arm maybe to be used as a political hostage or POW? John McCain.

Who would always use in conversations to get his way I was a POW? John McCain,

Who would win the war with a Surge because he knows how to win wars? John McCain.

Who will cry in Nov after the polls close and he has loss the election? I'll put my money on it that it will be John McCain.

Oh don't let me forget those whining Repukes too.

Chuck Todd - thanks for that wonderful piece you wrote.  I see why you are the political director and although I don't always agree with your take on things.

At least you are a true journalist - unlike the garbage I read from Mercurio earlier.

You gave me a breath of fresh air and somewhat redeem my faith in journalism.  We all really do appreciate what you and your staff do – well at least most of the time.

Rick,

I enjoy your sentiment. But as a gay man please don't associate me with that party. Gay shouldn't be used as an insult.
That's right Joe. The speech in 72 was most likely similar to those given by Obama today.I would bet many of the older politicain's early speeches were similar to Obamas. Tells you something about what age and Washington does to a person. Free out-of-the-box thinking and can do attitudes are luxuries of youth that slowly slip away as age by way of life's experiences begins to surround us with those boundaries and limitations of can't do rather than can do. Combine getting older with Washington and this inhabitions are doubled. Let's hope you stick close to Obama so those attitudes of youth rub off on you and that will  help you to make one of the greatest of VPs. Just remeber, Peter Pan never wanted to grow up. Not because he did not want responsibility. But because he did not want to lose that can do attitude. As did Robin Willaims as the older Pan who had forgoten how to fly because he no longer belived he could do it.
Did he mention that he was a POW ??

'... McCain Gets Prickly During Time Interview

Reporters have frequently commented on the degeneration of John McCain's "Straight Talk Express" policy throughout the campaign, but his lack of openness with the press came to the fore in a recent interview with Time Magazine. Below are some excerpts from the interview.

McCain at first seemed happy enough to do the interview. But his mood quickly soured. The McCain on display in the 24-minute interview was prickly, at times abrasive, and determined not to stray off message.
...

There's a theme that recurs in your books and your speeches, both about putting country first but also about honor. I wonder if you could define honor for us?
Read it in my books.

I've read your books.
No, I'm not going to define it.

But honor in politics?
I defined it in five books. Read my books.

...

In 2000, after the primaries, you went back to South Carolina to talk about what you felt was a mistake you had made on the Confederate flag. Is there anything so far about this campaign that you wish you could take back or you might revisit when it's over?
[Does not answer.]

Do I know you? [Says with a laugh.]
[Long pause.] I'm very happy with the way our campaign has been conducted, and I am very pleased and humbled to have the nomination of the Republican Party.

...

A lot of people know about your service from your books, but most people don't know that you have two sons currently in the military. Can you describe what it means to have Jack and Jimmy in uniform?
We don't discuss our sons....'

Who was that angry little dwarf ?

Did he kill the 'Straight Talk Experess' ?
What happened to 'honor', Johnny ?
Did Karl Rove take it all ?
Tell me where he touched you, John

What a true disgrace McCain and his campaign are. This is NO JOKING MATTER. The American people are being hit hard right now when it comes to medical insurance and McCain and his campaigns answer is the 'Emergency Room'. I guess McCain'ts answer for the hungry is the 'Food Shelter'. I guess McCain's answer for high gas prices is 'walk'. I guess McCain'ts answer for our poor educational system is 'just read more'.

I guess McCain'ts answer for not knowing how to solve the problems America faces is the fact that he was a POW. I'm sorry Mr. McCain, but that’s not good enough. America needs more than a good soldier, America needs a wise leader and that person is Barack Obama.

We can spend $10 Billion a month on a war, but our nations health its people and the issues we face-- is no big deal, it’s just 'mental'. At least that's what John McCain thinks.

No Way. No How. No McCain. (Thanks Hillary!)

Bush = McCain

McCain is more of the same (maybe even worse).
As an Obama supporter I want to encourage all Obama supporters to go out and make a donation to Hillary Clinton to help her retire her debt. The Clintons over the last two days have clearly shown themselves to be people who have put aside there personal ambitions for the better of the country. I made my donation this morning. If we all dug into our pockets for a $10 donation it would make a significant difference.
From MyDD via Huff Post:

'...Reid on McCain: "he doesn't have the temperament to be president"

by Josh Orton, Thu Aug 28, 2008 at 01:49:59 PM EST

Joe at AMERICAblog catches an interview Harry Reid did with the Nevada-based pundit Jon Ralston:

"I just think he doesn't have the temperament to be president," Reid told Las Vegas Sun columnist Jon Ralston during the taping of "Face to Face," in Denver on Wednesday. The show airs on a Las Vegas, Nev., cable channel.

"I've served with the man 26 years," Reid said. "Do I have the ability to speak with experience about someone who has abused everyone he's dealt with? Someone who does not have the temperament to be president, who's wrong on the war, wrong on the economy, wrong on nuclear waste. What am I supposed to do? Walk around talking about what a great guy he is? I don't believe that. .... "

"There isn't a Republican serving in the Senate that's happy he's the nominee. Now, they're all supporting him, but I'll tell you they have told me. I've had Republican senators tell me they don't think they'll vote for him," Reid said.

When Ralston asked if Reid thought it would be "dangerous" to let McCain be president, Reid answered: "Well, if you said it, I wouldn't correct you."

"Is that right?" Ralston asked. "You really think that?"

"That's right," said Reid, who predicted that Democrat presidential candidate Barack Obama would carry the battleground state of Nevada by 5 percentage points.

And there's no chance the "temperament" charge from Reid was an accident: he just repeated the point in a meeting with bloggers this morning.

You hear "John McCain is my good friend, but..." line from many Dem Senators as a pretext to criticism the Republican candidate. But no such qualification from the Majority Leader: Reid told Lieberman he "can't stand John McCain." But more than that, I think now is precisely the time to begin introducing this aspect of McCain's personality - right when the traditional media is discovering the same thing:..'

Read it and weep, McCaananites

John McCain, Mean and Nasty

To Eric, Salinas, California,
You'll be surprised to know there are real christians who do not hypocritically invoke God's name to consolidate power.  I know you must be frustrated, but please be careful not to insult everyone.
I loved the line that we need a leader, not a soldier.
I'm sick of the POW stuff.  Wes Clark was right - being a war hero does not qualify you to be president.  It just shows that you had the will to survive.

IMO McCain has reliquinshed his honor when he dumped his first wife in favor of Cindy.
What I love about Joe Biden is that he's not pretending to be a regular got that got elected to the Senate. He IS a regular guy that got elected to the Senate.

He doesn't have a famous father or a family of means.

I think that's what's so great about this ticket. These are two guys that embody that American ideal that if you work hard and put your mind to it, you can be anything you want to be. They might not be the 'Dream Ticket', but they're the American Dream Ticket.

To all Obama followers who are disgusted with the war in Iraq:

We, as a nation, are actually hitting two birds with one stone --- remove murderer Saddam and open a front on the war on terror for the bonehead jihadist to flock (so that all you Democrats are totally unharmed in the US). The 4000+ who gave the ultimate sacrifice did not go in vain...God bless them and their families...

I hate war but is a necessary evil that provides the freedom and liberty you enjoy today...Sometimes the ones who are "out of touch" are your circle who believe that Obama's word can cause the rogue states, Russia, China to change their ways...C'mon wake up and smell the coffee!
