Excerpts of Obama's speech

Posted: Thursday, August 28, 2008 6:55 PM by Mark Murray

From NBC's Mark Murray
The campaign has just released excerpts of Obama's speech tonight. In it, he will talk about the challenges facing the nation: “Tonight, more Americans are out of work and more are working harder for less. More of you have lost your homes and more are watching your home values plummet. More of you have cars you can’t afford to drive, credit card bills you can’t afford to pay and tuition that is beyond your reach. These challenges are not all of government’s making. But the failure to respond is a direct result of a broken politics in Washington and the failed presidency of George W. Bush."

"America, we are better than these last eight years. We are a better country than this.”

He will draw contrasts with McCain: “Now let there be no doubt. The Republican nominee, John McCain, has worn the uniform of our country with bravery and distinction, and for that we owe him our gratitude and respect. And next week, we’ll also hear about those occasions when he’s broken with his party as evidence that he can deliver the change that we need. But the record’s clear: John McCain has voted with George Bush 90% of the time. Sen. McCain likes to talk about judgment, but really, what does it say about your judgment when you think George Bush was right more than 905 of the time? I don’t know about you, but I’m not ready to take a ten percent chance on change.”

He will lay out his economic agenda: “Unlike John McCain, I will stop giving tax breaks to corporations that ship our jobs overseas, and I will start giving them to companies that create good jobs right here in America. I will eliminate capital gains taxes for the small businesses and the start-ups that will create the high-wage, high-tech jobs of tomorrow. I will cut taxes – cut taxes – for 95% of all working families. Because in an economy like this, the last thing we should do is raise taxes on the middle-class. And for the sake of our economy, our security, and the future of our planet, I will set a clear goal as President: in ten years, we will finally end our dependence on oil from the Middle East."

And he say this on foreign affairs: “We are the party of Roosevelt. We are the party of Kennedy. So don’t tell me that Democrats won’t defend this country. Don’t tell me that Democrats won’t keep us safe. The Bush-McCain foreign policy has squandered the legacy that generations of Americans  -- Democrats and Republicans – have built, and we are to restore that legacy."

“As Commander-in-Chief, I will never hesitate to defend this nation, but I will only send our troops into harm’s way with a clear mission and a sacred commitment to give them the equipment they need in battle and the care and benefits they deserve when they come home."

“I will end this war in Iraq responsibly, and finish the fight against al Qaeda and the Taliban in Afghanistan. I will rebuild our military to meet future conflicts. But I will also renew the tough, direct diplomacy that can prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons."

That's right Baby, the truth hurts, McCain and company cannot take this...Go Obama!  Tell it like it is, McCain is way out of touch with American Values and his war mongering and his POW stories are old, shallow and say nothing about where we want to take our country into the future.
It is our turn to carry the torch for Martin Luther King, Jr. and for everyone back in the 1960's who marched, who died, who defended, our fellow Americans.

It is our turn to march - to the polls in November - and bring the Democratic Party back to the White House.
Rep. John Lewis Message to All Americans
August 28, 2008

God Bless America.
Wow, I'm tingling already.  I can't wait for him to take the stage!  This is going to be spectacular!  The Republicans have no orators that can even remotely compare!

Yes We Can!
Yes, yes we can. Sock it to them Barack.  As Bill Clinton said, History is on the side of Barack Obama.  The Democratic party delegates will leave Denver return to their homes and we will work hard for this man, Barack Obama.
Now for the other news: Huffington Post talks about an MSNBC implosion. It is obvious that the likes of Joe, David,Pat need to find a new home. Actually one of their best reporters is David Shuster.

Barack and Joe, give them hell.
What a champ.

Obama 297, McCain 241

Go Barack!

Smart of him to say McHouses voted with Shrub 90% of the time.

Why?

-- Because everyone's going to say "I thought he voted with Bush 95% of the time!"

Smart.
Vets for Obama!
Looks great on paper but no one can deliver those words with the sincerety and dynamics of Barrack Obama.

Thank you Joe Louis for the fantastic dedication to MLK.

If people vote agaist Obama because he is Black they deserve what they get another Howdy Dowdy.
The problem is it will effect all of us.
Call 4 freinds and get them to vote for Obama and have them call 4 friends and we can take america back from McCain-Bush
Rock on Barack...!!

Can't wait to see it live!..on TV..oh well...

OBAMA/BIDEN'08
Maybe he needs the Clintons to that for him as well. ! Time to move on from obama to Mccain. This dem is backing McCain ! Iwatched Hillary and Bill then was done. I may not agree with everything McCain stand for but, the Y choice is much better than the X choice.
Ya, know what?  I love that MSNBC allows this posting.  I am also very grateful that we have at least one network that is positive towards Senator Obama, that is MSNBC.  The other networks just fake balance.  At least here you have sense and stand for right! I Like MSNBC for having the courage to speak the truth!  That is what's missing in America! That's why the other networks are hollering, they just spin.  Keep doing what you are doing!
Will there be a fog machine going as obama descends the cross?
Will Nancy Pelosi be wearing a toga and sandals?
Will there be a chariot race around the track after the speech?
No wonder Bill Clinton left town. This is over the top and Americans will see it that way.
Future President Obama's convention Speech is POWERFUL! Thank you MSNBC for giving the Obama spotlight it deserves as CNN has proven to have there own agenda. Obama doesn't need to trash Dark Vader (Cheney)or that stubborn little simpleton (Bush) to build himself up. Class rules out and him taking the high road only shows his administration is above the fray and will run business in a effective and new way come January.
Yea, we have had enough but not Pawlenty..you silly wabbit..

McFudd stands true to his creed..shoot the wabbit, shoot the wabbit......to easy...
RHj: Too Funny!!!!!!!!
I PRAY THAT AMERICANS WAKE UP AND GIVE US ALL A CHANCE FOR A BETTER TOMORROW. I'M 56 AND REALIZE THAT THE LIFE I THOUGHT I WOULD HAVE IN LATE YEARS IS NO LONGER POSSIBLE. BUT I PRAY THAT MY CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO FULFIL THEIR DREAMS.

OBAMA/BIDEN08
We are mopping up and completing the war on terror in Iraq where there was no war on terror in the first place until we invaded and created an environment that encouraged terrorism. And now that we have reduced the level of terrorists acts we can claim victory even though terrorists acts in Iraq were non-existent before we invaded. How's that?

**************************

The truth is we don't know if there was or was not any terrorist activities in Iraq before 2003, and bacause of the invasion we may never know. Iraq has always been an open country to Arab neighbors (except Iran). People come and go as they please. In 2003 The US invaded causeing more and more millitant types to engage US forces. Truth is we don't know how many terrorists are dwelling in our own country. 9-11 took years to plan. terrorists both in the US and abroad were planning this out for years for the right moment to strike, and to those who say say it won't happen again are just fooling themselves  To say that tighning security here has kept us safe from terrorists underestimate how clever people can be. However if there is anything positive to say about the situation in Iraq is that since the invasion there has been a record drop in terrorist activities outside the country in Iraq. As bad as it sounds to here about US casulties in Iraq and Afghanistan, it still is alot better to hear than casulties in New York, Chicago, or LA.
Martin Luther King has to be smiling down tonight!! Yes, MLK, slowly but surely, your dream is coming true!! I am so proud to be affiliated with this Party.
This will be an historic day whatever the words are, but I expect Senator Barack Obama will rise to the occasion and do us - and Dr. King - proud.

I hope the MSNBC team will realize that we want to see and hear everything that is happen and not talk over the events. We love you, but you are on every day!

And just a comment about McCain's adviser who suggested there aren't "technically" any Americans without health care because there's always the emergency room. SHAME ON YOU and doesn't it just show how out of touch McCain is?

How like a Republican to redefine the problem so that there ISN'T a problem -- rather than find a real solution. Now that's problem-solving! NOT.

I don't ge Hillary supporters who are voting for McCain. If you trusted  the judgment of Hillary and Bill, you would vote for Obama after hearing what they had to say the past two days.
Isnt it funny how the cronyism follows all the way to the poeple that vote for republicans, even tho they are losing their homes, paying high gas prices and seeing their income decline...smart people!
Martin Luther King has to be smiling down tonight!! Yes, MLK, slowly but surely, your dream is coming true!! I am so proud to be affiliated with this Party.
The Repukes will try to start this "celebrity" crap again and try to suggest that he can't connect to the average American. I just saw the size of that crowd, and guess what? I think there are PLENTY of average Americans there to hear what he has to say!!!
This is over the top and Americans will see it that way.

The Bush Administration was over the top and Americans do see it that way and know 8 years of Republican mismanagement is enough!
Polls show Obama one point ahead of McCain
maybe that's because of the unconventional convention
coverage where you kept asking for the 'red meat'
but everytime a speech came on you didn't show it you just talk over it
Bill didn't leave town, he's at HOOTERS in Denver.  Isn't $1.00 draft night?
