Obama's very tough speech

From NBC's Mark Murray
No doubt Obama discussed specifics about his economic policies. And he talked plenty about change and bringing Americans today. But what Obama's acceptance speech will be remembered for were the strong words he delivered at McCain.

This is on the conservative side, but I counted at least eight tough lines directed at McCain, according to the prepared remarks. So much for that Monday-night criticism from some pundits that the Dem convention wasn't tough enough against McCain and the Republicans...

1) TIES TO BUSH. "John McCain has voted with George Bush ninety percent of the time. Senator McCain likes to talk about judgment, but really, what does it say about your judgment when you think George Bush has been right more than ninety percent of the time? I don't know about you, but I'm not ready to take a ten percent chance on change."

2) PHIL GRAMM. "He said that the fundamentals of the economy are strong. And when one of his chief advisors - the man who wrote his economic plan - was talking about the anxiety Americans are feeling, he said that we were just suffering from a "mental recession," and that we've become, and I quote, "a nation of whiners."

3) DOESN'T GET IT. "It's not because John McCain doesn't care. It's because John McCain doesn't get it."

4) TEMPERMENT: "If John McCain wants to have a debate about who has the temperament, and judgment, to serve as the next Commander-in-Chief, that's a debate I'm ready to have."

5) BIN LADEN. "John McCain likes to say that he'll follow bin Laden to the Gates of Hell - but he won't even go to the cave where he lives."

6) IRAQ. "And today, as my call for a time frame to remove our troops from Iraq has been echoed by the Iraqi government and even the Bush Administration, even after we learned that Iraq has a $79 billion surplus while we're wallowing in deficits, John McCain stands alone in his stubborn refusal to end a misguided war."

7) MORE BUSH. "If John McCain wants to follow George Bush with more tough talk and bad strategy, that is his choice - but it is not the change we need."

8) WE ALL PUT COUNTRY FIRST. "So I've got news for you, John McCain. We all put our country first."

It's over!

Obama/Biden 2008
The Republican response was a joke.  They must be concerned about the VP pick tomorrow?  Pawlenty, Mitt, Ridge, Lieberman?  They are pretty much hosed:

That was the most awesome speech I have ever heard. It even topped, dare I say it JFK. Obama, you did good. McGoo is toast in november.
Congratulations Senator Obama.  Brilliant speech.
Speeches that inspire like this one has led to great things....like civil rights, a man on the moon and the conviction ally with Europe to end Nazi occupation. Speeches like this can lift up the best of this country.
Barack Obama walked the walk tonight!  He told America exactly why he should be President and why we can not risk 4 more years of Republican rule!
Barack Obama is exactly what this country needs, YES WE CAN!!
Even though I'd been drinking, a couple of these made me sit up and take note. Rock on, Obama!

A bit more seriously, this guy really made you feel connected, from your spot in the family room---to the place where maybe you voted for him in the primary or caucus--to the spot where you maybe left your office for an hour to see or hear him in person---forward, to the place where you'll cast your ballot in November.

Stellar, Mr. Barack Obama.  Stellar.
McCain is a good man but he is not the leader this country needs. He lacks leadership skills. Obama showed once again that he is the leader that we need to change the direction of this great country into the right track again.

No way, no how, no McCain.

Eight is enough.

Obama/Biden 08
It's all a lie! Those are not the votes he's previously cast! Don't be fooled lefties!
Wonderful speech!! He's our next President
Y'know, the republicans can say it was too much fanfare, but I rather be hopeful than live in fear. Yes it was a bit surreal, but maybe that's what it should have been. I rather live a life that movies are made from, than squander the American story.
WOW  Im still in tears.  Finally Obama is fighting back.  The McCain campaign needs a new strategy.
I was so happy he layed out all the programs that we all know he has.   Take that McCain now try to say he is not qualified.  He knows more about the issues after 11 years in Illinois and 3 years in washington than you know after 26 years.
Cant wait to see your failed strategy at your convention.   time to rewrite your speeches

I am so proud to be a Democrat right now.
He hit this one out of every ballpark in the National Baseball League... and he wrote most of it himself.
Simply put the speech was amazing.

I had said before that the bar was raised high for this speech, and to say he went above that bar is the understatement of the century. The bar no longer exists.

God help you McSame
Same old dribble we get from all democrats. He's had all summer to debate with McCain. Why didn't he? Big crowds and fireworks do not make a President. I'm a small business man that also invest in the stock market and I don't feel I'm going to get much help from Obama. I'm also getting a little tired of these dems beating up on Bush. Since 911 there have been NO terrorist attacks on American soil! Stick that in your hat and smoke it.
As a life time Republican voting this year Democrat both locally and nationally, his speech just reaffirmed that we have a very clear choice in this election. How anyone cannot see the mess our country is in both nationally and internationally and still vote for another four years of failed leadership makes a sad statement about themselves.
I've watched the responses from Tom Brokaw and his portege, Brian Williams, for weeks now.  It's unfortuante that their negative bias again Barack Obama is so obvious, since they present themselves as objective journalists.  The best Tom Brokaw can do is the evening news.  The same holds for Brian Williams.  Hopefully, Tom Brokaw will quiet his garbled speech, until he's capable of speaking without garble or bias since he isn't a Keith Olberman or Chris Matthews.  He's a disater on Meet the Press, without doubt.  Tonight. Barack Obama was unblievebly brillient, clear and inspiring.  I was certain that Tom Brokaw and his shadow, Brian Williams, would express their usual unfortunate, spineless, regrettable, non intellectual drivel.
He walked out onto that stage, with a huge smile, no signs of nervousness. And all he managed to do was welcome the United States and the world into the 21st Century.

He was offered the torch, he has accepted it.

We will all help him take it over the finish line in November.

David Plouffe & David Axelrod: Fantastic convention. To all Democrats who played a role - America thanks you.

And to Ted Kennedy, Bless You.
