Hillary booed at McCain-Palin event

Posted: Saturday, August 30, 2008 7:45 PM by Chuck Todd

From NBC/NJ's Matthew Berger
WASHINGTON, Pa. – Palin’s nod to Hillary Clinton may not go over well everywhere, because at a rally Saturday, the mere mention of her name brought a chorus of boos.

Palin was lauded for speaking of Clinton and Geraldine Ferraro in her speech Friday in Dayton, acknowledging the role their candidacies had played for other women, including herself. It was seen as a smart political gesture toward winning over some of the Clinton supporters who feel disenfranchised and may not vote for Obama in November.

She gave essentially the same speech today at a minor league baseball stadium outside of Pittsburgh. But when she said Saturday that Clinton “showed determination and grace in her own campaign,” there were an audible boos smattered amid the cheers. Palin ignored the boos and continued on with her speech.

McCain and Palin were joined there by former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge, who was himself a vice presidential prospect. Palin acknowledged Ridge, whom she said she hadn't met but was a fan of.

I think Palin was being booed not Hillary. In any case Palin is perhaps less qualified than Joe Biden's son:

I smell an Eagleton.

Palin will not make it until election day.

"Family Responsibilities" will be the reason given by the McCain machine.

mark my words
Don't you mean that Palin was booed? Hillary was not *at* the event. What gives with the misleading headline?
And I'm sure she was laughing, after all Palin did call Hillary Clinton a whiner.
How many people came to that minor league stadium? We didn't see a shot of the whole place on Nightly News. It would show quite a contrast between Obama Thursday night and McCain on Saturday.
Excited yet, PUMA's.  Will you follow the McCain-Palin traveling circus, literally, and join in booing your candidate?
Senator McCain ,the oldest first-term president in history, what if he had to step down due to ill health, if he loves our country like he says he does, why would he choose an inexperienced person to deal with such serious times, Is his VP pick ready to deal with terrorism,be commander of our wonderful brave fighting men and women in uniform, Russian conflicts, North Korea, Katrina like events, China polices, our economy, this inexperienced person would hold the future of our great country in her inexperienced hockey mom hands. To me this is very frightening. She may be a nice lady but I am concerned deeply about the experience factor.
Hillary needs to go on the stump and let America know...Palin DOES NOT EQUAL Hillary! Palin's votes are at most 600 thousand not 18 million! She's trying to make claim of Hillary's experince and career for herself...she needs to read 'the audacity of "nope!"'
Epic Fail
Sarah Palin...are you kidding. This is like appointing your local sheriff to be the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff!!! McLame promised that his pick for V.P. would be the best qualified person he could find. Country First, yeah right. This is politics first and foremost and it would be funny if it were not so dangerous. Sarah Palin a heartbeat away from the Presidency. Why not, she is a liftime member of the NRA, member of the PTA,give me a break.
But were they booing Sen. Clinton or Gov. Palin for invoking her name?
Sounds like McCain is batting a thousand again!
What a greenhorn Mz. Palin is.
You can't control the crowd, but she did nothing to correct it. Gore AND Obama scolded the booing of Clinton. I just don't see integrity in the  McCain campaign
She's a gimmick! McCain is putting politics before country. It tells you a great deal about his judgement. She was asked about being a VP. While watching this you tube video, ask yourself if you were interviewing someone for the VP spot if you would hire her?????

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b4gkPXSDtGQ
You think Palin would know who the major players are in the republican party. If she doesn't, it should be her first assignment and she should keep her not knowing who is who to herself. No need to let folks know you don't know anybody
I am constantly amazed at the lack of judgement from the McCain camp.  Did they really think they could use Hillary in such a manner? Is this glass ceiling bit going to be Palin's only claim to fame in this campaign?  McCain can't be serious if he thinks he can just place a pair of random ovaries next to him and expect the women to swarm his way.
I find it very interesting that the Obmaamaniacs are trying to act like they aren't the least bit concerned about Sarah Palin and yet they're comming unglued and they're too stupid to realize that they're not fooling anyone.

The reason the Obama folks are chomping at the bit is because they're very concerned.  They really believe in their warped minds that there is absolutely no way that Obama can lose.  They believe it's his/their God given RIGHT for him to be POTUS.

They all need a BIG FAT reality check slap in the face and they're all going to get one on NOV 4th.
And McCain thinks that Hillary supporters will vote for him? He is delusional, stupid and a old man. Sorry but should he not request that his followers treat Hillary with the respect she deserves? McCain shows what he really thinks about women. he only picked Palin after meeting her one time and laughs at Hillary. Sorry I willnot vote for this htpocrite. Obama / Biden 08
It looks like Gov. Palin is the darling of all corporate media now. Instead of giving time to Obama after his fabulous speech Thursday night, Friday and Saturday have been given to McCain/Palin. Political bias is alive and well in Medialand. I'm not surprised given that the same corporations who run the media are also running the war and the Republican party.

Has it come to anyones attention that maybe the reason Palin was picked was because of her corporate ties with big oil and her pursuit of drilling in the Anwar Preserve. Don't think that those oil people who are behind Bush/Cheney will be gone with the next election. They are deeply entrenched in the Republican party. With a Republican V.P., especially from Alaska, the only people to benifit will be the Alaskans, as a portion of the profit from Alaskan oil goes directly to the Alaskan people. Oil companies will profit from more Alaskan oil, but we in the lower 48 won't see any of that oil, because it all goes to Japan. High oil prices are a win/win situation for Alaskans. You don't see them complaining as year after year they elect Republicans to office.

Obama/Biden for real change!
No one knows Palin, and like wise Palin has never met any of the important political players, Dems or Republicans.  From Kay Bailey Hutchinson, Tom Ridge, Joe Biden, Barrack Obama etc etc, she is unknown to all.  Even McCain has only met this Gov twice in his life!  Don't need a lot of research on the web to find out Alaska's papers are noting her approval rating of 90% was before the "investigation".  It is now down to around 67%.  She's the Gov of a state smaller than Brooklyn!  By the way, who else has ever used the rise from PTA HOCKEY MOM to VP as a platform??? Did I mention her hometown is not a city?  Population 5500???  Sounds like a "village"?  Pretty scary! This woman has NO CREDENTIALS!  Will she say "YUP" when asked if she's ready to negotiate with Putin?  According to People Magazine, that's exactly what she said!
I have lived all 25 years of my life in alaska. The Majority of this state has been burning for the growth of its natural resources and be given the opportunity to ease addiction of foriegn oil that is powering the United States today. Palin can be considered a blessing to politics, bringing a well defined stance on all the major and important issues most candidates squirm around (example: abortion, Marriage rights, ETC). I Recommend for EVERYONE to take the opportunity to read up on the accomplishments Palin has achieved in the time she has had in office and compare it to basically any other politician you see today. You give her the time, and she will deliver. She is one politician that it true to her word. ROCK ON!
Sarah Palin has to be a joke. McCain could have chosen one of several substantive female veeps, as in Elizabeth Dole, Kay Bailey Hutchison or Susan Collins. Any one of them would have been better than a Palin. Women will not view this well, if there is one thing we hate is seeing older more experienced women being passed up for promotion by an inexperience younger prettier woman.
You can't appeal to the far right and Hillary's sisterhood at the same time.

I'm waiting for John McCain's "I promise not to die" speach.

Do we want to place the fate of our soldiers in this woman's hands? Do want her in the war room making national security decisions?

American soldiers are over their putting their lives on the line for the safety of our nation in his unecessary war and this is how McCain shows his respect for them?

I guess if something happens to McCain, the rest of us just don't matter. This is all about him...this is not about the people and it is certainly not about the sacrafices our troops have made.

Obama/Biden is the rational ticket...

We can now add...

John McCain is crazy and Barack Obama is not!

Has anyone considered that the reason McCain chose Ms. Palin was that no one else would agree to run with him?  Perhaps Romney, Pawlenty, Ridge, and any others didn't want to damage their future prospects or damage their past accomplishments by being on this year's Republican ticket?  Maybe she isn't his first chioce, but his only choice?
I saw the event live on TV.  So you mean they trotted her out there to say she was all about Hillary and the crowd booed her?  Guess that wasn't in the GOP script.
Barack should keep focusing on the issues because Mccain is too inept to do that. He thinks by choosing a woman that he willl automatically win because all woman will vote for him because he choose someone with a PU**SY like mine. Give me a Freaking break.

Drilling down deeper it almost seems like the Gov. of Alaska has some answering to do with those down home issues...firings, misuse of power, endorsements, big oil profits, fast tracking, what cronies  you've said you took care of,...etc...
Have the people of Alaska paid John to take this person off their shoulders...they need a new governor to replace this anti museum, gun shooting, fisher person, soccer mom, want-a-be VP fake.
I believe she has no clue what she's  being used for by Johnny boy.. No wonder  Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson passed it by...That's a whole other topic...
I just watched how quickly the reaction timing was on this whole calling and the scripted bullet points   that cantered in front of the cameras so sweetly. You could almost smell it through the TV set...
I didn't know they could pile it so high in Ohio..!

I find this to convenient to be true...John McCain needs a side kick to take the heat away...
John are you that willing to allow shots to taking by your VP choice and don't want to deal with issues of America?...talk about denial....
What ever happened to the tough GOP ..Those guys that didn't have to run away from the issues...

John's making great strides to  run a solid campaign..but this running  mess does not look presidential at all.. It looks more like training camp for want-a-be defenders of the greed...

In conclusion, we can not afford government 101 classes to be canceled while real life problems pile up at the door steps of our leaders. This is exactly what happened before 9/11. Zero intelligence meets I'm going to get you at the time you have no clue of...
We all remember what Bush was doing when the planes crashed..He was talking to a bunch of primary kids.
Let's elect a President that keeps us all in the loop, one that works to keep our country secure.
And we all know who is ready to go and to just that..
Not someone leaning on soccer moms, but some one leaning with Joe Biden next to the helm.. .. ..
I understand why some people who supported Hillary in the primaries are upset and feel reluctant to get behind Obama. I imagine I'd feel the same way about getting behind Hillary if the tables were turned. But before her supporters rush to embrace McCain, I wish they would remember how Republicans used to treat her. This should serve as a pretty good reminder. As someone who has defended Hillary against sexist Republican bullshit for years, I find it sickening to see them suddenly latch onto her and portray her as a victim and try to exploit her to gain votes. And to see some Clinton supporters fall for it hook, line and sinker is appalling.
This is a trainwreck on wheels.  First the Hillary Clinton/Obama fight to the death and now this ridiculous Palin fiasco.  What an awesome election season this has been!
I watched her speeh. Nothing sounded exciting to me. It also appeared there were not many Hillary supporter out there with her.

She is so far from Hillary. She is all the way to the right. No way, Palin.
Palin != Clinton

Everyone seems to realize that EXCEPT the chattering class.  You don't even have to know anything about her to know that.  Younger, republican, less experience, appointed.  That's not something any feminist likes.  And republicans don't like Hillary anyways.  Lose, lose on the female/hillary front.  Palin will be seen as a joke in a matter of weeks.  harriet meiers indeed.
I viewed the event a short time ago.

Perhaps the Republicans will discover that their "base" serves to undermine the hope of harvesting Hillary supporters (or indeed any undecided voters) when they boo the standard-bearer of female issues.

Gov. Palin went blithfully on with her points list, which showed that her salute to Ferraro and Clinton was hollow, shallow and insulting to intelligent women voters.

The introduction of Palin and her laundry list of self-congratulatory comments were equally insulting.  The prom queen mentality of Palin was breath taking.

How dare Sarah Palin compare herself to Hillary Clinton.  She is not Hillary in any shape, form, or any other way except by gender.  It is a INSULT to the PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA what the Republicans and John McCain are trying to do.  I do not blame Ms. Palin herself but lets be real.  She is in no way qualified to be "ONE HEART BEAT AWAY FROM THE PRESIDENCY OF THE UNITED STATES.
Let's face it, John McCain is 72 years old with a broken body due to his prisoner of war hostage years(which does make him a true hero but does not alone qualify one to be President).  He has a severe form of Cancer in which the long term prognosis is not too good.  I do not think that the American People want to trust OUR COUNTRY to a unqualified person to be just a heart beat away from running the Country and to protect us in these trying times.
Thank You Barack O'Bama for your pick of a running mate in Joe Biden, who would be ready to assume the number one slot if something were to happen to you. I hope that all those who are running for office will have a safe and healthy journey but it is too big of a gamble not to have a qualified person waiting in the wings so to speak
"It was seen as a smart political gesture" Oh yeah? Most of what I've read calls it a cheap gimmick. Palin's to the far right, anti-abortion even in cases of rape, incest or the health of the mother. She doesn't believe global warming is man made, and believes creationalism should be taught in schools. She defends Bush's tax cuts and his Iraq strategy based on the fact "we haven't been attacked since we invaded Iraq." Her approval rating in Alaska is not 80% but 65% and falling fast. Sarah has 66 days until her 15 minutes are up.
I truly believe that Palin was chosen simply because she is a woman! She has nothing other than that going for her. This is the very reason why so many women wept and boohooed like babies when Hillary was not chosen to be Obamas's running mate. Women didn't really care about Hillary's politics, they only want a woman in the White House. If any of Hillary's "devoted 18 million" vote for McCain, that will prove that they did not give a darn about Hillary, they just wanted a WOMAN in the White House. What Palin offers amounts to nothing. McCain is off balance, and "does not get it!"
Today was the first day I listened to Palin for any length of time. Beside the fact that she's completely unlistenable and has about zero charisma, her shameless pandering to Clinton voters really did blow up in her face.

I find it odd that she keeps invoking Clinton's name considering her bashing of Clinton during the primaries for whining, saying she did a disservice to women.

When everyone booed Clinton's name, she didn't stop them like Obama did, she plowed through with her grating cliche of a speech.

Over the radio... zero likability.

Now thats sure going to help bring over Hillary voters.  This whole thing is a sad joke.  I think the women of this country should be appauled at this choice.  McCain passed over much more qualified women, for the younger, better looking, less qualified candidate.  I DONT THINK THAT IS HOW YOU REACH THE WOMEN VOTERS!!!
Should the title read Palin Booed?
Is Palin's youngest daughter actually her granddaughter?

This gimmick is already starting to show cracks.  Just wait until the Hillary supporters find out about the booing.  Mccain has demonstrated nothing but contempt for Senator Hillary Clinton and the constitution of the United States.  He cares not one whit about putting millions of Americans at risk by selecting this woman.  She is already under investigation by her own state and hasn't even been on the job for 2 years!  We already have two politicans in the White House that should be impeached.  We don't need another.

So what if she kept a disabled baby--thousands of Americans face these challenges daily.  She is no more special then they are in their struggles.

Mccain abandons his disabled wife for a younger, richer woman, and now he abandons all sense and reason in choosing a running mate.
Does he seriously think that palin can pass as an authentic politician comparable to Senator Clinton?  What an insult.

What's the story here?  Did Obama and Clinton supporters always cheer for the other candidate and treat them with respect?  And yet now all we hear is their mutual support.  The Democratic convention folks booed the president of the United States repeatedly.  Is that supposed to show how "classy" they are? These same "classy" Dems will cheer loudly for a foreign leader who disagrees with Bush....is that supposed to impress us? Obama's campaign removed 2 muslim women from the backdrop so that cameras wouldn't pick them up in footage a few months back.  Who's the one "playing politics"?
This wasn't their crowd.......they should of done some more research.  McCain gambled Palin would draw Hillary supporters but I think he may have miscalculated choosing a anti-abortionist for VP.  Which lead me to ask; why is daughter Bristol not attending events?  She mentioned everyone and state Bristol is on the bus with the baby.  In the diner Bristol was nowhere to be found among siblings. Could it be she is pregnant and don't want the press to take pictures......hmmm  I guest this would be embarrassing for a morally staunch conservative.  McCain really showed what good judgment he has.

People need to get serious about understanding the way this VP pick could very well affect this nation's national security.

Can you imagine how vulnerable this country will be if something does happen to McCain?

How vulnerable our troops will be?

How vulnerable our economic stability will be?

This elections is about our future and the future of our children.

McCain wants to go around the globe playing war games and then leave us with her to deal with it?

John McCain is crazy...Barack Obama is not!
John McCain is very pathetic for trying to use Palin as an image to make his ticket seem "cool"... The guy is almost dying and he got a bimbo to help him out. "how Cute"... OBAMA is CHANGE and by getting Palin you are just rippin' off Change that was already made.... seriously.
it's amazingly scary how willing to insult our intelligence the GOP (and John McCain in particular) have become.........this particular pander beats even the "drill here, drill now" phrase for shameless transparency.......absolutely stunning!
this is so sad.  I truly applaud the Obama campaign for not falling for this "Rovian" trap of bashing the unknown female and risk appearing sexist or belittling the fighting "barracuda" as she was known in high school

Let this McCain campaign reveal for itself what a farce this is.  Trust me, women are not this stupid
Sarah Palin comes off as so sugary sweet it could make you sick. I saw the rally, and here she is reveling in all the applause while her 5 month old son with Down Syndrome stays in the bus with her older children.  Isn't she from the far right wing Republican party that touts "family first, and family values" etc., yet clearly her political ambition is much greater than her desire to help her son. I love the constant double standard of the Republicans...they always secure their own interests before those of others.  Has anyone mentioned/noticed that Ms. Palin thinks that the worldwide global warming problem is a total hoax?  UNBELIEVABLE!!!  This "hockey mom" is no more ready for Washington than I am, and i have almost the same credentials she does.  BEWARE OF VOTING FOR THIS TICKET!!! I sure hope all the women who were Hillary backers are seeing this Republican ploy for what it is...pandering to whichever group you think will win you the votes. I have been voting Republican for my entire life, but NO MORE!!   The evangelicals have got a stranglehold on everything John McCain does, and they are the ones who forced him to choose her.  If they get into the White House, and McCain dies, this totally inexperienced woman will be making decisions for all of us.  WAKE UP AMERICA!!  GO OBAMA/BIDEN 08
Obama, Biden, Clintons and the Democratic party will win the White House hands down. Yah, lets put our future in the hands of the moronic Republican party and a hocky mom. If anyone votes for this incompitant duo, it will demonstrate their complete disrespect and unconcern for their childrens future. Anyone that touts creationism will start armigedon because that is what they believe and religeon has no business in our politics as they will distroy us inthe name of God. It is not terrorist we need to worry about, it is the neocons, conservitives, republicians, what ever you want to call them, they must be stopped for the future of the world!
