Hillary booed at McCain-Palin event

Posted: Saturday, August 30, 2008 7:45 PM by Chuck Todd

From NBC/NJ's Matthew Berger
WASHINGTON, Pa. – Palin’s nod to Hillary Clinton may not go over well everywhere, because at a rally Saturday, the mere mention of her name brought a chorus of boos.

Palin was lauded for speaking of Clinton and Geraldine Ferraro in her speech Friday in Dayton, acknowledging the role their candidacies had played for other women, including herself. It was seen as a smart political gesture toward winning over some of the Clinton supporters who feel disenfranchised and may not vote for Obama in November.

She gave essentially the same speech today at a minor league baseball stadium outside of Pittsburgh. But when she said Saturday that Clinton “showed determination and grace in her own campaign,” there were an audible boos smattered amid the cheers. Palin ignored the boos and continued on with her speech.

McCain and Palin were joined there by former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge, who was himself a vice presidential prospect. Palin acknowledged Ridge, whom she said she hadn't met but was a fan of.

That's exactly what she's going to get, trying to run on someone else's record, just because she doesn't have any record of her own.

Those 18 million cracks were not made by just any kind of woman. They were made by the former first lady of the United States of America, an accomplished lawyer and US Senator.

This is a low blow by the Obama campaign and we won't fall for it.  Do you think even the Republicans would be psychotic enough to boo Hillary in front of Palin and McCain while Palin is thanking HRC????  Hillary never even ran against a Republican, they aren't angry with her at the moment.

These are clearly plants from the Obama campaign who intended to piss of Hillary supporters who now support McCain.  Nice try!!!
Here we go again. McCain really screwed up again. Republicans hate Clintons like democrats hate Bush. Only difference if, these hicks don't realize that the Clintons made America stronger and worked for the population of the country. Bus, well, even though I voted for him once, and every republican before him, I can't betray my country any more by voting for another one unless they quit giving to the rich and put the country as a whole first. I wa blind for a long time but my eyes are now open. And I'm an ol white veteran.
great new video of McCain/Palin pairing...

You are so right Joe Marine. I am a middle aged, Independent FEMALE in ARIZONA and me and my girlfriends say it's BUSH-IT as well(Love the term.) How dare you McCain!!!??!??! We now see that you are onnly trying to win this race for one term and you are trying to use us to do it. We are intelligent and strong and we are also a moving force in this race. Were VOTING OBAMA BIDEN. NO WAY NO HOW NO PANDER
The Palin's crowd booed Hillary today and we'll say boo her in the voting booth!
Well, now we know how they really feel about Hillary. I'll bet the feeling extends to Hillary supporters. I think Hillary supporters aren't going to flock to McCain because the campaign is flying a uterus in front of them.

I feel insulted as a woman that the McCain camp has pulled this obvious stunt. There's got to be many better Republican choices that would shore up the McCain ticket on Policy.

I watched Sarah Palin get elected in Alaska becuase she is pretty and perky. I did not vote for her, and although I am not a republican, I am not paticularily dissatisfied with her performance as Governor.

However, I am concerned about the investigation currently underway regarding the firing of Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan. http://www.adn.com/monegan/story/478090.html

I am concerned that when Governor Palin doesn't get her way, she fires people. http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/8/29/19444/2791/260/579432

I really hope this doesn't become another shallow election.
This Palin pick only demonstrates that McCain is out of touch with not only the economy, but national security and foreign policy.  It is a pick that thumbs his nose at everything that is sacred and important in this country, including every woman of substance and especially of the life and career of Hillary Clinton.  Obviously, John McCain thinks it is only interior plumbing that makes a woman important, impressive and capable of being in line for the most important job in the land.  Andrea Mitchell or Rachel Maddow would have made much better choices, not to denigrate the attributes, intelligence and knowledge of those two fine broadcasters, but they sure do know a lot more about what's going on than McCain's pick.
The best way to save the Republican Party now is to destroy it. In the marketplace of ideas, social conservatism is a viral infection contaminating the GOP. It represents an evolutionary dead-end whose logical conclusion is fascism if not outright totalitarianism. Is it not obvious that the imposition of the evangelical ideology--any fundamentalist ideology for that matter--lies in direct opposition to a free people in a democratic land? Our Constitution, specifically the separation of church and state, no longer serves as a bulwark against the morality police, who seek to impose faith-based notions such as creationism upon those of us with rational minds. Social conservatives aim to constrain freedom of thought, freedom of choice, freedom to pursue happiness. These freedoms live at the heart of an entrepreneurial and economically strong America. No doubt, the diktat the social conservative movement wishes to impose upon ALL us Americans is antithetical to a free market system, and therefore exists as hypocrisy within the Republican platform. Privatize profits, socialize losses, and make religion the opiate of the masses. Indeed, this has been a dark eight years of Orwellian doubletalk. Enough! I’m a Reagan Republican and I’m voting for Libertarian Bob Barr.
This is 'assisted suicide'...
This is such a FARSE. McShame should be disqualified for this.
I love how Palin keeps mentioning Hill and Gerri
WOW
So desperate. Any woman who was a dem and votes for this pair of nuts is not a dem. They are playing the symapthy card BIGTIME
SAD
McCain thinks women are DUMB and are B I T C H E S
Remember that
The "buzz" all day has been how tricky and clever this VP choice is.

I don't appreciate "tricky" and "clever" when it comes to my family and my grandson fighting in Iraq.

Has anyone stopped to consider how the soldiers fighting McCain's unecessary war must feel right now?

He would risk their safety and all their sacrafices for the sake of a political move?

What are they to do if he doesn't survive his term?

Are they to depend on a soccer mom or excuse me a hockey mom to lead the US military in a time of war?

This is a slap in the face to military families and the sacrafices that have been made.

He is a selfish old man who has completely unraveled as a legitimate candidate.
Palin seems like a fine choice but as a lifelong Republican, having suffered through 8 long years of the Clinton sleaze machine, I really don't want to be reminded any more about Billary and their insane grabs for power. Palin should just stick to her positions and she and McCain will prevail.

Out of everything that was discussed, you report that there were boos when Hillary Clinton's name was mentioned by Governor Palin?! I guess no one should be surprised since you idiots are in the tank for Obama and want to portray dislike with Hillary Clinton by the Republicans.  It is amazing the lack of professional journalism that MSNBC/CNN/NBC/CBS and ABC have shown throughout this whole process.  Surprise! Surprise!
Do you seriously think she will have an impact?  Could she really cut into the women's vote because she is a woman?  I would like to believe that we are not that gullible.  However, there are some low information voters...but no, I'm going to believe that the american people are smarter than that.  Palin is against everything Senator Clinton stood for! Again, don't believe the hype...
I am a woman and I will use my brain and vote for Obama/Biden 08.  McCain is out of his mind if he thinks that this election is going to be given to him.  This country needs a Leader who respects us as informed voter's.  People wake up...
McCain should be ashamed of himself. He and he TWO Beauty queens. I used to be a repub.(Now an indep.) You have insulted women. America's women. Your henchmen will say great choice but even they are biting there nails hoping this garbage works. I want it to be said that I am not mad a Palin. I am mad at the fact that John McCain thinks that the intellegence of American women is so shallow that they will fall for this equivilent of a gas tax holiday.(which never happened by the way because it was also garbage and an insult to America's intellegence.) You just failed my friend. I was reading up on what she stands for. No equal pay for women and men. She is for overturning a women's right to choose what happens with her body even if she it RAPED. I have daughters Mr. McCain. How dare you. And than pandering to evangelicals. Well you just solidified a lot of peoples votes. OBAMA BIDEN. they stand for something. They stand for America. And the American dream. You sir have forgoten where you came from.
Yep, they booed.  And hopefully the PUMAs can see through McCain's gimmick.  Sarah is NO Hillary!

Samantha Bee, of the Daily Show, addressed this issue the best!  Women aren't as dumb as McCain thinks we are!
If Sarah Palin is a "fan" of Tom Ridge, doesn't that make Tom Ridge a (gasp) celebrity?  And, doesn't that also make Sarah Palin appear more like a star-struck school girl than a Vice President?
Palin - you are no Hillary.  Hillary is a highly educated and accomplished woman.  You do not stand for anything that Hillary has fought for all her life.  Do not use Hillary's name in vain.  Hillary Clinton is my hero, keep off my Hillary!
McCain has said that his first criteria for a VP will be to pick someone who can step in and run this country!

He will lose all the military families on this one...our kids are over there with their lives on the line and McCain is playing politics with their safety.

People keep saying that voters are voting for the top of the ticket. Well voters need to consider that the VP is next in line and we are at war with terrorists!

Our soldiers have sacraficed so much and they are counting on us to make good judgements in regards to their sacrafice and the sacrafices of their families.

Shame on John McCain...if something were to happen to him...our troops would be completely vulnerable...he is supposed to be the one who knows and understands the world?

He has shaken things up alright...

I guess we are not allowed to question his patriotism...but if the shoe fits someone has to say it!
She was booed because Hillary is the opposite of Palin and no self respecting Republican woman would ever support abortion, raising taxes, or the gays.
Now from one Military man to another, I'm going to go take a big 'Bush' and wipe my 'McCain'. After I flush the 'republican' I'm going outside to take out the 'Palin'!
She is a One speak canidate.  I watched on Saturday and saw the crowd booing Ferraro and CLinton.
Now the true colors of her supporters are showing.  These people are the Clinton haters of the 90's.
This is what you will put back into office if you move the McCain ticket.
Women you have a serious question to ask ourselfs. Do we want a women VP with no experience and is is against all the things Obama/Biden are for especially womens rights or a Women in office.
Obama supporters fomenting trouble again.
I have to question why she gave nearly the same speech.  She is new on the national skyline; she needs to make sure that she shows how dynamic an orator she is.  These first few appearances need to be dynamic.
I wonder why she is flattering Clinton supporters
while she labelled Clinton as a whinner during
the primary. McCain decieved me by choosing a
this chic without any foreign policy experience
which was his strenght against Obama for the
last couple months. That's a shame McCain.
The people probably were genuine Hillary backers - and don't like comparing her to Palin.  This is truly an insult to Hillary Clinton and all her hard work on behalf of women.  No true Clinton backer would vote McCain/Palin.
Sarah Palin has to be a joke. McCain could have chosen one of several substantive female veeps, as in Elizabeth Dole, Kay Bailey Hutchison or Susan Collins. Any one of them would have been better than a Palin. Women will not view this well, if there is one thing we hate is seeing older more experienced women being passed up for promotion by an inexperience younger prettier woman.
I thought the Republicans couldn't add anymore to the "sureal-ness" of the last 7 years.  If John McCain thinks that Palin will pull women from Hillary's camp....he must be smoking something very strong indeed.  And to top it off, he must realize that he has given up ANY more criticism of Obama's percieved lack of experience.

Wow!  This is really bizzare!
Sarah Palin - this year's Katherine Harris.  The more she's out there, the more you see that there is something a little unbalanced there.  Lingering under the surface.
I feel sorry for her. They say nobody turns down the VP position but maybe she should have thought long and hard. She is obviously a great  politician/woman/athlete/person but for her to align herself with John McCain's campaign really make me question her credibility.

Her selection seems like a reaction to the Barack Obama speech at the DNC convention. Basically she is just being used. I'd consider voting for her if she was on the top of the ticket and not just a token.
She did the right thing to ignore them and go on with her speech.

Geraldine Ferraro, Hillary Clinton, and Sarah Palin are all remarkable ladies - they certainly have my admiration and respect.

I know at least 4 Hillary Clinton supporters who were not sure if they would vote for McCain or Obama in November. They will vote for McCain now that Governor Palin is on the Republican ticket.

Congratulations Governor Palin!!!!

Go get 'em !!!!!!!!

P.S. I am not surprised that MSNBC did not miss the chance to "highlight" the "boos" as if that is the only thing that happened. I am not surprised that they are not referring at all to the specifics of her speech which in my opinion was an excellent speech. They mentioned that it was the same as the one she gave on Friday... It is amazing that Barack Obama has been giving the same speech over and over around the country - speaking on and on - just so he can hear himself talking and MSNBC has not mention the facy that he is the one that in fact sounds like a briken record without telling how he plans to pay for his "miracles" once elected. I guess he has a magic wand... MSNBC start scrutinizing Obama as much you have criticized and scrutinized Hillary Clinton and now Governor Palin. MSNBC is full of male sauvinists with the exception perhaps of Brian Williams and Tom Brokaw. In a way I feel sorry for these two working for this left-wing liberal circus such as MSNBC. They are a disgrace to serious journalism.

I'm looking forward to her calendar a lot more than Joe Biden's. Maybe team her with Anna Kournikova and Natalie Gulbis.
