McCain on pick: 'Frankly it inspires me'

Posted: Sunday, August 31, 2008 7:03 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC's Domenico Montanaro
NBC's Brian Williams asked John McCain on Nightly News tonight if Palin was the best choice given that he's a 72-year-old cancer survivor.

McCain defended the choice, citing Palin's experience, including being a governor, mayor and even working on the PTA.

“Facts are funny things,” McCain said, adding that she's “been in office longer than” Obama.

He added, in fact, it's “almost ludicrous to compare her experience with his -- it's no contest.”

Williams followed up and asked, though, if she was the best choice.

“Oh sure,” McCain said, “in every way.” He went on to again cite her “executive experience.”

“Frankly, it inspires me,” he said.

As his pet cat Fluffy had declined his offer, Palin became the obvious choice.
Sarah Palin has served in office LESS time than Obama (unless McCain is counting the PTA).  One thing you CAN depend on: Republicans are consistently loose with the truth.
Good Grief!!!!

I think John McCain has more problems that we knew - - - !!!!

Obama!!!!
Oh Johnny please stop, your humor is killing. Seriously tell us what the heck you were thinking.
Brother, McLame definitely must be suffering from dementia, if not worse. That VP choice is the most stupid move any presidential candidate has ever made, and the man should be put in a jail cell for even contemplating putting our country potentially in the hands of that bimbo. But what more can we expect from him? The guy is a real crackpot lunatic and that is pretty much all he's ever been. On the floor of the senate, he buzzes around like a nasty wasp, trying his darnedest to intimidate one and all. What a big JOKE.
Amazing! Sarah Palin upstages the DNC. Now Gustov upstages the RNC.
Um, is it my imagination but did Bobby Jindal just stick it to McCain and Palin at his presser just now?
I sure hope Leno and Letterman pick up on the PTA comment.
Palin's only Executive Experience:
Palin, in a separate statement, said her priorities include making the Parks Highway the state's top transportation project, increasing recreational opportunities, increasing public input to the City Council, and promoting fiscal responsibility without raising taxes.

Additionally:
A reporter for the Anchorage daily, Gregg Erickson, even did an online chat with the Washington Post, in which he revealed that Palin's approval rating in the state was not the much-touted 80%, but 65% and sinking -- and that among journalists who followed her it might be in the "teens." He added: "I have a hard time seeing how her qualifications stack up against the duties and responsibilities of being president.... I expect her to stick with simple truths. When asked about continued American troop presence in Iraq, she said she knows only one thing about that (I paraphrase): no one has attacked the American homeland since George Bush took the war to Iraq."

His paper found a number of leading Republican officeholders in Alaska who mocked Palin's qualifications. "She's not prepared to be governor. How can she be prepared to be vice president or president?" said Lyda Green, the president of the State Senate, a Republican from Palin's hometown of Wasilla. "Look at what she's done to this state. What would she do to the nation?"

Dermot Cole, a columnist for the Fairbanks paper, observed that he thinks highly of Palin as a person but "in no way does her year-and-a-half as governor of Alaska qualify her to be vice president or president of the United States.

It was reported that her husband was a small commercial fisherman.  Well, the paper reports her husband works as a production supervisor for BP (and oil & gas company). And her support for drilling in the Alaska Natural Wildlife Reserve, as well as exploiting Alaska's natural gas resources, certainly won't endear her to environmentalists

BabyGate:

That baby is not hers, but her GRAND baby.  Focus on the abdomen of the 17 year old daughter in the green sweater and in the black/white print dress.

McCain is officially off his rocker. Palin has been in office longer than Obama???

She's got 4 years as Mayor/City Councilwoman and 19 months as Governor of Alaska.

Obama has spent 12 years in the US Senate and Illinois State Senate combined.

Then again, with the republicans saying that Palin is qualified on foreign policy because Alaska is near Russia, I'm not surprised by this.

Mccain is absolutely correct, it is ludicrous to compare Palin's expeience to that of Obama's.  It would be more appropiate to compare being the Mayor of a town with a population of 8,000 to the president of my neighborhood homeowner's association.
Wow, he sounds delusional.

Palin has a compelling life story, but no way she is better qualified than Obama.
What a moron!  How can you compare city council & mayor experience of a small town to that of Illinois state legislator and community organizer in a large city.  If this is an indication of how he will choose his cabinet members, he is no different than Bush.  Obama at least as the know how to choose people with real experience.  He has managed to put together an incredible team.  Who has McCain chosen -- a beauty queen.
Can McCain plead insanity and redo his VP pick..He just had his 72 nd birthday this friday and i believe he deserves the right to redo for the historic service he has given to this country...Please give him a second chance....
CAN ANYBODY SAY DELUSIONAL???

...Is anybody going to take this Palin lady to task???

McCain Knows he made a huge mistake... Ya' know how you can tell? Pay attention to how many times the Repugnant's say how excited they are about the pick... That appears to be a talking point. Who are they fooling??? If they actually were that excited they wouldn't have to say it so much. It's like they're trying to convince us or something, while what they're really doing is trying to convince themselves. I'm becoming so disheartening with the American people, 'cause we're beginning to fall for anything... Like how McCain's trying to adopt the change slogan all of a sudden... Oh, yeah, that's going to work... They say "she's a reformer", "she's going to shake things up"... Maybe she is a reformer, (Doubt it) but she is not heading the ticket. Does anybody really believe McCain's going to take the advice of a PTA, Hockey mom??? Oh, wait, My Bad... Based on the record of his judgment he just might...

I'm so looking forward to the next couple of days, when we begin the vetting process of this woman that McCain never did...

This guy has extremely questionable judgment... Imagine him in the position of extreme power... I, myself can't begin to fathom that...

I am at a total lost for words. Our Country is about to go in one of two directions. Lets see where the pulse of our Nation is...

Lovin' Logic...

Obama/Biden 08
I'm sure it inspires - just like his barbie doll wife. Picture perfect and that's all that matters. Ludicrous to compare her experience really - would she know how to work with a foreign relations committee or any other national congressional committe for that matter. She doesn't even know what the vice president does every day. In office longer than Obama - is that including her PTA president office, or just her mayoral position for a city with a population that matches the number of people in one D.C. block of office space. Poor Brian Williams - I wouldn't have even been able to ask the question with a straight face. McCain must have been given the republican kool-aid before the interview just to answer with one.
McCain has completely lost his mind. "Almost ludicrous"? "Been in office longer"? Sure, if we count her time on the PTA and as a City Councilwoman!! How is this lady going to stare down Putin if McCain kicks the bucket?

He is totally insane.
Dear concerned citizens of America and mass media of the U.S.A.

As a concerned  disabled American Veteran and American citizen, I consider it my duty and responsibility to address the following critical issues facing the voters of our Greatgrand nation, the United States of America [USA].

The citizens of the United States of America [USA] have the ultimate power and responsibility to elect the Right Ticket with the right joint "temperament, judgment, and statesmanship" to lead our nation as well as change our nation's present and future moral, political, economic, educational, health care, energy, military, and foundational soul.

In my firm professional, personal, and political opinion,  the media should help the common voter to explore and discuss the following attributes of the present Republican and Democratic presidential slates:

1. Does the joint ticket have a calm, cool, and collected " temper and impulse" [Presidential Temperament]?
2. Does each ticket have sound and sustained "Judgment and Caliber"?
3. Does each ticket have a "presidential depth and degree" in regard to their purpose, policies, and positions?
4. Does each ticket have adequate, "understanding and knowledge" of workings around Washington"?
5. Does each ticket have enough "vigor, wisdom and Vision" for the future of our beloved Great-grand Nation?
6. Does each ticket possess enough joint foreign policy experience and ex-poser based on "American Values, Virtues, Vastness, and strong soul"?
7. Are their campaign talk, slogans, ads, plans, and programs based on facts and are they free of fear, fiction, frivolous labels, unfair attacks, negativity, and impulsivity?

If your answer to a majority of the above questions is yes, I suggest you vote for that ticket. As a Independent registered voter I have decided to vote for Obama-Biden ticket. I am sure they will protect our national security, Strong's, stamina and strong soul. Rebuild our nation from bottom up in all areas of need, OBAMA-BIDEN ticket will once again restore and rebuild our global standing with the use of maximum international humane diplomacy and minimal force if and when indicated.

Yours sincerely,

COL. A.M. Khajawall [Ret] MD., Forensic psychiatrist, Colonel, US-AR / MC Combat Stress Control[Ret], Disabled American Veteran and Iraq Freedom team.
She inpsired you while you were looking at her A**

Conservatives Response:

"National Review site The Corner - The choice says a lot about McCain, that he is a bit desperate and that he is one arrogant SOB. McCain is essentially telling the world that he doesn't really need a Vice President.... Rather, the Office would seem poised to return to the 'proverbial warm bucket of p***' category."

Goldberg - "It all comes down to whether Palin holds up under intense scrutiny. If it looks like this was purely a stunt, then McCain's critics will be right that his "country first" mantra rings a bit hollow. All I can say is I hope McCain's vetters did their job."

Ponnuru has a list:

"Inexperience. Thanks to McCain's decision, Palin could be commander-in-chief next year. That may strike people as reckless. To the extent the experience, qualifications, and national-security arguments are taken off the table and Obama wins.

It's not just foreign policy. Palin has no experience dealing with national domestic issues. Can anyone say with a straight face that Palin would have gotten picked if she were a man?"
end quote

and so it begins...let's enjoy every second of it ;)
