McCain camp Palin fundraising

The McCain campaign raised $4.5 million between 1 p.m. and midnight on the day Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin was announced as McCain's vice presidential selection, aides tell NBC News.

The campaign raised an additional $3.5 million in the two days following the Palin announcment for a three-day total of $8 million, aides said.

It is important to note, however, that after McCain makes his acceptance speech Thursday, he can no longer use any money raised previously. This is referred to as "primary" money. After Thursday, McCain will then be operating with public funds of $84.1 million.

Obama can raise unlimited funds, as he opted out of the public finance system.

To protect his VP pick, they release the news that a 17 year old is pregnant.

Under the bus? More like out the window of a 747 at 30,000 feet.

What worries me most about McCain/Palin ticket is their environmental policy (especially regarding drilling in the ANWR). I think it is evermore important for us, as consumers to support 'green businesses' that benefit the environment. Nice way to twist words for a desired outcome. McCain CAN raise money for the general-he won't be GIVEN 84.1 million, he's limited to SPENDING that much. He can still get contributions of up to $2300 per person. I just went to the FEC home page to verify this. Talk about bias.

having had six children myself (the last at 41) and knowing that labors tend to shorten each time. [the labor of my fifth child taking only three hours total--less if you count from when the waters broke] seems very irresponsible to be flying ESPECIALLY with a special needs baby.

Added to the fact that all the support Palin is promising will require her time, as well as the needs of that Down Syndrome baby. AND since she hasn't resigned how about her duties as governor????

Just how will McCain spen those funds by Thursday? You can bet he will flood the airwaves with those negative attacks that he is so good at. But if he wants to make an impression, maybe he should donate those funds to the Red Cross for relief of Hurricane Gustav. Will he do it? No, he's all about the politics. It's one thing for him to say he'd rather lose an election than jeopardize his country, but that's just it. This sentence is a bit misleading. After Thursday's acceptance speech, the McCain Campaign will still be allowed to collect and spend donations from individual contributors.
