Despite political respite, Biden hits McCain

From NBC/NJ's Mike Memoli
SCRANTON, PA -- This morning, Joe Biden said today was not a day for national politics. He said it again during a roundtable discussion outside his childhood home here this afternoon. But before long, he couldn’t help himself, criticizing McCain for his views on offshore drilling and questioning his foreign policy judgment.

“The only guy in America in a position of some authority who is out of sync with the whole rest of the world is John McCain,” he told a small group of relatives and old family friends. “This Administration, the Iraqis, NATO, the Europeans, our friends around the world, the vast majority of the American people, the Democratic-controlled Congress, Republicans in Congress -- they all agree. Barack Obama was right, and John McCain was wrong.”

Biden was referring to Obama’s call for a timeline for withdrawal, something he said he’s now preparing to see through as an agreement between the Bush Administration and the Iraqi government comes to his desk as chair of the Foreign Relations Committee. He compared that to McCain’s claim that a timeline would be tantamount to surrender.

He also said the Republican nominee’s statement that Obama would lose a war to win an election is embarrassing. “Barack Obama was ahead of the curve; John McCain is still way behind the curb,” he said. “I promise you. I promise you. We will secure America.”

The Delaware senator called the return to the Green Ridge neighborhood an emotional one. And he offered personal testimony as to Obama’s readiness to be president, and perhaps as importantly, his personal qualities. “I promise you, my word as a Biden -- if Barack grew up in our neighborhood like he did in Kansas [sic] being raised by his grandparents, if he grew up here being raised by his grandparents, he’d have been our friend,” he said. “He’d cover your back.”

Biden was joined by his brother, Jimmy, two cousins, and his mother, Jean. And he joked that those who think he’s a bit verbose ought to spend some time with mom.

“They ain’t been around my house,” he said.

And before the roundtable, he toured his old home, now owned by Anne Kearns. He even signed the staircase, writing in Sharpee, “I am home. Joe Biden. 9.1.08.”

“If my father were here he'd smack me,” he said.

*** UPDATE *** McCain spokesman Ben Porritt responds: "While John McCain has called upon Americans to serve and assist our fellow citizens in the gulf states, Barack Obama's own running mate, Joe Biden, clearly has no limits when it comes to political attacks. Either Barack Obama's claims of bipartisanship are empty or he is unable to control his running mate."

*** UPDATE II *** The Obama camp fires back that McCain aide Steve Schmidt and Karl Rove criticized Obama on this supposed day off of politics.

The Republican should take there own advise. They have been going full guns against Obama since Friday. They are just trying to divert attention about the story coming out today about Baked Alaska  thats all.
Joe Biden is going to be a pistol, bless his heart but at least we know what we're getting. McCain's  VP pick has come complete with 2 "gates" already in progress and who knows how many more to be exposed. Her worst enemies are the Alaskan GOP. Nothing like eating your own. I sure hope America is good and ready to say so long to this bunch.
"he told a small group of relatives and old family friends."

How is this a political attack?!  He was surrounded by family and friends not speaking in front of a thousand people.

Seriously, did the McCain campaign have someone stalking him with a tape recorder?  Is this politics: the reality TV show?
DemBabies. Katrina=Dem Governor; Gustav+Republican Governor. Go Johnny Go,,,,oh and by the way who paid for Joe roundtrip on the AMtrak everynight...he is not a Washington Insider you know (Oh look at all the Bama Boy's and Obamarettes shaking their head-yes change we can believe it!)
Carl Rover a true trash mouth and to think  that people gave their life for his freedom of speech in America...And you too Rush Limbo..
But on the lighter news...
Where's the economic helper in Palin? (No Romney)
If we only knew the truth about it. It would amaze us all.
John McCain needs no economic advisor..
Phil Gramm has filled that slot..there goes healthcare, there goes education funding, there goes child care, there goes the environment, there goes oil prices, there goes not fixing Washington, there goes military spending, there goes family values, there goes equal pay for equal work, there goes housing reform, there goes energy independence, there goes the economy, there goes less taxes for the middle class, there goes the dollars value abroard, there goes labor unions, there goes the US court decisions for the next 30 years......
send a strong message to the ballot box this November or there goes the chance for change in this country first...

Obama/Biden'08
I'm sorry another hurricane has hit the gulf states and my heart goes out to the people who are going through this again.  That said, I firmly blieve as a country we have to stop throwing money at cities and people who don't leave these hard hit areas.  I'm all for helping once, but not twice.  If you look at history it very clear people did not build or stay long in places that continually floods.
How does a city, in hurricane area, built below sea level continually demand aid?  How does it make any sense?  To vote against continued relief is a bad thing?  I for one will vote for anyone who has the strength to say NO More.  Move out of harms way or deal with the consequence.  This election could be a chance to really change things and I don't mean Obama's way of promised change.  His speech promised many new programs to everyone, but didn't mention how we are to pay for it all.  It's time to get back to basics or we will face a bankrupt country that will make this economic harship seem easy.
Two ironies
1) the goofball guy from Dobson's outfit that prayed for rain during Obama's speech and now we have "plenty of rain" for the beginning of the Republican convention

2) Palin has been on record that she's
a) Pro-life, with the only exception being the mother's life and
b) an abstinence only advocate.

This second one is ironic because the CDC has shown that abstinence only has been a failure and more directly speaking to that failure, the fact that teenage pregnancy and abortion has INCREASED in the last 8 years under Republican direction than under the previous Democratic administration with President Clinton.

Hmm...?
"Tax, tax, tax & he may pull us out of Iraq but it will be hasty & we'll be back. "

Charles ~ I urge you to actually go and read Obama's tax plan and them come back and play.  FACT: 95% of Americans will receive a tax break.  Nice try with the Republican smear tactics.
Feel sorry for the daughter, she has a mother and father who talked the talk but didn't walk the walk: typical conservative Republicans and evangelicals!
FirstRead, how about checking into Sarah Palin's relationship with the radical AIP. She's been mentioned by that party's leaders as a former member of a party devoted to bringing about secession of Alaska from the US. That would make her a traitor.

If folks are going to get attacked now for talking to their "families and friends" then this isn't America anymore. These repubs are really beginning to disgust me and I've been a republican my whole life. Not this time.
Biden, the guy who voted for the war, against the surge, and wanted to divide Iraq in three countries.
Now he wants to attack McCain on foreign policy?

Not a good move.
I got pregnant when I was 16 (and had my son).  But I remember the embarassment and having family and friends learn about it.  I can't imagine the public humiliation that Palin's dtr is experiencing.  As a parent, I would have turned down this nomination.
JOHN MCCAIN IS A MAVRICK, HE IS, HE IS, HE IS:

M - MCCAIN
A - ALINATED
V - VOTERS
R - REALIZES
I - IGNORANT
C - CHOICE OF VP
K - KEY REASON HE WILL LOSE THIS ELECTION.

Let's be honest...McCain and his camp are just pandering...it is true that despite their clumsy efforts to insert themselves in the hurricane issue, we still have their record on Katrina.  McCain subsequently voted against help for Katrina victims...what is this crap about putting country first???

So Obama is supposed to not talk politics when McCain camp is out there politicking?  What kind of nonsense is this?

No way, No how, No McCain.  ENOUGH!!!!!
To Beverly in Chicago:

Do you really want to say that a woman can't pursue a professional career and be a good mother?

Do you really want to say that a woman is a bad mother simply because her child disobeyed and got pregnant?

I'm sure Barack's grandmother appreciates the sentiment.

.
Way to go Joe.
Mccain has played dirty pool since day one and he
needs to be exposed for the fraud that he is.
And then to have the irresponsibility to our
country and us to pick someone so totally
unqualified as a vp shows how he will do
anything to try and get votes.
Country first. Yea right Mccain.
ENOUGH!!
Joe Biden -- solid as they come.  So he forgot to refrain from discussing the facts...boo hoo!!!

And as for any criticism of Bristol Palin that may have (but probably did not) come from the Obama camp, at least he's not the type of person who makes homosexual jokes at a teenaged girl's expense.

Google chelsea clinton mccain joke

The idea of this group (JM, et al) leading the country gets scarier each and every day...
Even Biden won't say it because of political price that would be paid. Gen Clark was right, all McCain is famous for is getting shot down in Viet Nam. The rest of his career in school and in public life is a joke. He finished 894 out of 899 in his class at Anapolis. If it was not for his name McCain he would not have been it tha class at all. And his bragging of how he refused to be let go in VN because other prisoners were there longer. I don,t think he is being completely honest. Did he not sign a confesion during the very same stay. If he was so brave to stay why did he sign the confesion. It is more likely that the American military did not want him back because of the propaganda that would be created. If he was will to sign the confesion just so they could stop kicking his ass he would also agree to leave. He is the same person. So far we have a student that should be on the short bus and a pilot of a failed mission. What are we bragging about. Now his maveric thing in the Senate. that came be directly attibuted to the Keating 5 investigation where he could and should have gone to prison. There is no doubt in my mind that the fear that was created there has caused him to so over compensate that he does not want to do anything to show himself to be corrupt. I am way confused by the gap between the perception and the reality of this guy. Oh yea I forgot about his marrage. I think that would be piling on.
the girly men bush/cheney too big a cowards to show up at convention are replaced by laura and mccants wife cause they are afraid to show their faces.
The repubs are getting huffy today, Vettinggate perhaps.
Stay tuned for more.
This ain't over till the fat(pregnant)lady sings.
How do you repubs like swiftboating now?
Remember how you repubs attacked Chelsea Clinton.
PAYBACK is a WHAT?
I hope the Palins believe in pre-natal care.
Shotgun wedding in the White House, commemorative guns on sale for everyone.
You repubs are in for a lot of this so get used to it.
