Excerpts of Lieberman's remarks

Posted: Tuesday, September 02, 2008 8:12 PM by Mark Murray

From NBC's Mark Murray
Tonight, Joe Lieberman will say this: "And that brings me directly to why I am here tonight. What, after all, is a Democrat like me doing at a Republican convention like this? The answer is simple. I'm here to support John McCain because country matters more than party. I'm here tonight because John McCain is the best choice to bring our country together and lead our country forward. I'm here because John McCain's whole life testifies to a great truth: being a Democrat or a Republican is important. But it is not more important than being an American."

And this: "John understands that it shouldn't take a natural disaster like Hurricane Gustav to get us to take off our partisan blinders and work together to get things done. It shouldn't take a natural disaster to teach us that the American people don't care much if you have an 'R' or a 'D' after your name. What they care about is: are we solving the problems they are up against every day?"

And this: "What you can expect from John McCain as President is precisely what he has done this week: which is to put country first. That is the code by which he has lived his entire life, and that is the code he will carry with him into the White House. I have personally seen John over and over again bring people together from both parties to tackle our toughest problems we face."

And this: "Especially at a time of war, we need a president we can count on to fight for what's right for our country - not only when it is easy, but when it is hard. When others were silent, John McCain had the judgment to sound the alarm about the mistakes we were making in Iraq. When others wanted to retreat in defeat from the field of battle, when Barack Obama was voting to cut off funding for our troops on the ground, John McCain had the courage to stand against the tide of public opinion and support the surge and because of that, today, our troops are at last beginning to come home, not in failure, but in honor!"

What a joke. You know the Republicans are up against the ropes when all of their big names use the lame excuse of 'hurricane' on the opposite end of the country to ditch their own party's convention and they half to bring in this goof. Third string all the way in 2008 for the Repubs.
Joe Lieberman should be ashamed and embrassed

The Republican Party Threw Him Under the Bus

John McCain wanted him for his running mate but he was not good enough for the party.  Rather than get Joe or someone else with experience who will be a heart beat away from the Predency

they Shut Joe Down Talked about how the Republican Party would Revolt at the Convention

Joe are things really going that bad that you would embrass yourself so publicly?

Pat Buchana and Rove said don't don't Accept the VP slot if offered.

We thought you had some Self Respect tonigh you have proven you have none.
DEMS need to get this guy off all committees, he's a  disgrace. I don't care if we need him for a majority. He's more Benedict Arnold than Benedict Arnold! OUST him now, and I will support whoever runs against him. Low Blow Joe is your new name!
News flash...you havent been a democrat for years now.  Dont even insult the party by claiming to be one.  And from there the lies just flow.

How the hell is this guy still in office?

Who am I kidding, we are the country that re elected Bush.
well all that john mcCAAIN MAY SAY ABOUT OBAMA DONT MATTER NOW SARAH HAVE A CHURCH PROBLEM HERSELF THE VIDEO IS ON YOU TUBE IT MAKE OBAMA CHURCH LOOK LIKE A SAINT .OH MY GOD WHAT DID MCCAIN DO TO HIMSELF BY PICVKING THIS WOMAN.I WILL GIVE THIS NEWS UNTIL TOMORROW TO COME OUT.THE VIDEO IS SOME SATANISM
Senator Lieberman got it right. It is time for a change. Enough of the Obama/Biden Senate insiders with thier same old same old.
We can't attack the comments?  What then do we talk
about? This sounds like some Republican criterion
which does not allow anything negative about their
"man"
i don't disagree with much of the first three paragraphs of this excerpt, but i have massive disagreements with the final paragraph.

McCain's view of what is right for this country and my view are at complete odds.  invading Iraq was not best for this country, and screaming about what we were doing wrong and getting nothing done is no reason for me to be impressed.

i also would like to know if the surge was the answer, or if the 72,000 insurgents that we started paying $10 per day to stop shooting is the real cause of decreased violence.  i'd like a detailed list of this $10 billion per month expenses in Iraq, when they have over $80 billion in surplus.  i think they can pay to have their people from shooting.  (why i've only been able to get this news from other sites i'd really like to know.  so much for MSM liberal bias.)

Based on recent decisions that McCain has made, i have significant doubts that he knows what is right for this country, or has the intelligence to create a plan that would work.  I don't know that judgement and experience are things that his campaign should focus on right now.
It is hard to express how disappointed I am with Joe Lieberman.
ha, they're runnin the reverse that Obama invented.
I guess Lieby forgot to mention McCain didn't support increasing the G.I. Bill for us veterans either, amonst other things
The republicans cannot win on issues so they are waging culture wars. It won't work this time because whether or not my gay neighbor's sexually active teen sister gets an abortion doesn't put gas in my tank or food on my table.
Lieberman... Lieberman... Lieberman...

What happened to 'I'm not going to bash Obama'?

What a total tool you are Lieberman. So disingenuous. You know your characterization of that vote by Obama is complete spin. Your endorsement is enough reason for people to vote against McCain.

What a complete opportunistic lackey you are, except you're always on the wrong side.

You deserve your January come-uppance.

When John was in the Senate he was wrong to vote to go into Iraq.
Lieberman is a traitor. He even caved on the dems on the whole recount issue back in '00. He has no clout. Democrats will make himpay for this.

Won't it be great in November to have this scoundrel no longer on the Democratic scene.  Of all the public officials of my lifetime, including the crude bungling Cheney, Joe Lieberman has the highest puke factor of all.

I curse the day I gave him my confidence and my vote in the 2000 election......."fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me."
blah, blah, blah
The Surge Worked!  Hooray Surge!

Give it up and just run for the Kneset alrady Lieberman, America doesn't want you anymore.

And so much for the Repuglicans criticizing the Dems for being negative during hurricane...
Who really cares what Joe Lieberman has to say.
When Barack Obama is elected President of the United
States he will bring honor and respect to the office as well as to the US Congress.  Joe Liebermann speaking at the RNC Convention is a disgrace to our Party of which he belonged for 18 years.  Slamming Barack Obama when he knows that is not true and speaking how good we would have it if McCain is elected.  We do not want four more years of the same.
President Barack Obama will bring our country back into the fold of honor, respect not only for us at home but all over the world.
If McCain can't even convince his party to accept Lieberman or Ridge as his running mate, how does he expect to convince a Congress of the opposing party to do what he wants???
