Union files complaint against Palin

The GOP candidate for vice president, Gov. Sarah Palin, may be facing yet another ethics investigation back in her home state of Alaska.

An ethics complaint obtained by NBC News was filed yesterday by the police officers' union in Alaska, requesting a probe into possible wrongdoing by the governor or her office. It was brought on behalf of state trooper, Mike Wooten, the ex-brother in law of Palin, who is at the center of the "Troopergate" scandal.

The complaint alleges that the governor or her staff may have have improperly disclosed information from Wooten's personnel records. The complaint alleges "criminal penalties may apply."

"It seems obvious to us somebody has improperly accessed [Wooten's] personnel file," John Cyr, director of the union that filed the complaint, told NBC News.

The McCain-Palin campaign today launched a spirited defense when contaced by NBC News. They say the personnel files were not protected. A campaign source says Wooten himself had previously signed a waiver allowing a divorce lawyer to obtain his personnel records. The campaign then sent a copy of that waiver to NBC News, which reads, "I hereby waive any privilege I may have to said information to said attorneys."

The issue concerns disclosures about Wooten's records made by a Palin aide -- Frank Bailey -- in a February 2008 phone conversation. The police officers union complaint claims the transcript of that conversation clearly indicates there was improper access to Wooten's records.

The McCain-Palin campaign, in a response to NBC News, provided a family twist to the story, saying the governor's husband, Todd Palin, was the source of that information to Bailey. They say the information came from divorce proceedings, and that Gov. Palin never improperly accessed any records.

"When you're a real reformer like Sarah Palin, who isn't afraid to take on entrenched political interests," Taylor Griffiths, a spokesman for McCain, said, "scurrilous attacks and empty allegations come with the territory."

Unions are good at complaining.
If I hear Tom Brokaw, Chris Mathews, Chuck Todd or Andrea Mitchel act incredulous at the notion that the "main stream media" piled on Palin and say it was all in the "blogosphere" I am going to throw up... are you deaf... have you not heard Rachel Maddow and Kieth Olberman yell in your ear, every single time their mouths open, every random, un substantiated rumor they can drag up from the internet??? As well as EVERY SINGLE TIME Olberman opens his mouth it defecates some slander against the Republicans or their candidates??? Heads up guys.. it is YOUR network spreading this garbage. It is shameful that you allow your reputations to be slaughtered on a daily basis with those two people. I really like MSNBC but am probably going to eject after tonight (except in the mornings!)

See ya...

When you are a politician moving up in today's Republican party, corruption and scandal come with the territory.
My, the timing of this complaint couldn't come at more convienent time. Who do the unions support again?
So, essentially, Todd Palin has violated the trooper's privacy.  The release he signed and the campaign forwarded says Wooten waived his privilege to the attorneys (and the other party, ostensibly Todd Palin's sister).  There would be no reason for Todd Palin to have this information, so the lawyer violated Wooten's privacy, as did Todd Palin and the aide.  Very sticky, Governor.  Very sticky.
Another page from the same Democratic playbook. Environmentalists are next in line I'm sure.
So, McCain can make no wrong decisions because he was a POW, and Palin can do no wrong because she's a reformer?

I'm not saying she's guilty, but I'm really starting to think the McCain camp didn't know any of this...

Meanwhile, if you're looking for some sense (that the corporate media seem to be lacking) take a gander at Jon Stewart's take on the reaction to Palin.  http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/09/04/jon-stewart-hits-karl-rov_n_123852.html

Grrrr, Grrrr,

Woof, woof, woof, woof

Grrrr, Grrrr.
Oh my goodness!  Will the GOP just STOP!!??  Their actions and words are so . . . so CHEAP!!!!

"When you're a real reformer like Sarah Palin, who isn't afraid to take on entrenched political interests," Taylor Griffiths, a spokesman for McCain, said, "scurrilous attacks and empty allegations come with the territory."

GOP must think that the American public is that stupid to actually believe there is real genuine conviction in that statement!?  Obama may have those things too but at least he crafts it better it sound more authentic.  Please GOP: Do a better job.  The mascara of the same old politics is seriously running; You might melt in daylight!
My simple question to this whole investigation: Why originally lie about not having any contact in the Wooten-scandal(i.e. calls and emails) and than hire a lawyer? ALl I want is the truth.
Drip drip drip nice reform candidate, every day she is looking more and more like a "typical politician" something the McCain campaign is trying desperatly to avoid.
Blah, Blah, Blah, POW, Sexism,Blah, Blah. How do you know when a Republi-con is lying? When they open their mouths.... Hopefully the American public will see through all of the Republi-con B.S. and do the right thing: actually vote for someone who has the public interest at heart, not their own interests or those of special interest groups. Or Machiavelli-an Karl Rove.
She is as dirty as most republicans. How sad. This is what excites McCain ...war war war, fight fight fight, and take what you want. And S C R E W the public.
More "stuff" coming out on Palin . . . this is going to get even better as time goes by.

And this before Palin even goes out before REAL people . . . not the base at the convention.

I can't wait until she has to respond without a teleprompter or a script written for a man.
A new day, a new revelation.  WHO IS SARAH PALIN??? The McCain camp might not really want to know (maybe that's why they didn't take proper time to vet her).  Also, don't see it mentioned here, but Palin has her own pastor scandal.  Seems her pastor preached some pretty anti-Jewish messages and she was confirmed to be sitting in the congregation when he stated that Israel was suffering because they don't profess Jesus Christ (paraphrasing).  Tick, tick, tick...  welcome to the BIG LEAGUE Gov. Palin.  You want to play with the big dogs on a national level?  Fasten your seat belt and get ready for scrutiny.
For the first time in my adult life, I really love the republicans.......way to pick "em johnny boy.

This woman is a hopeless fraud!
I understand that the National Enquirer is running a story this week about an alleged affair that this woman had with her husband's ex business partner. While I know that this is a tabloid rag, it is noted that this is the same magazine that forced John Edwards to eventually come clean about his affair with Rielle Hunter, so it is certainly not partisan.  Also, there are pictures of the pregnant daughter , Bristol, engaging in underage drinking and another of Sarah in college wearing a T shirt which says, " I might be broke, but I am not flat chested" online. The reason that this stuff  should be  fair game is that Repubs run on a platform of character, values,  appeal to Evangelicals, etc>
Ah...another ethics investigation...it is NOTHING!  In your hypocrisy, don't even mention honesty. I think last night was a bumper evening for Pepto Bismal and the Republican convention. I  can't believe they believe their own lame lies!  The party of Dementia.
This woman is just trashy

OBAMA/BIDEN
"scurrilous attacks"???

Check out all the lies and distortions from Palin's speech last night...from the many fact-check sources.  Just google palin speech factcheck"

Cheny with lipstick...
I like how the primary season as full of people who were getting fired for lobbyist activity, ties to bad people, etc., and now Palin is absolutely BURIED under baggage, and no one from her party seems to be asking her to leave... strange...
Any of the Union leaders read the Violence Against Women Act?  That trooper had no right to carry a gun, according to its terms.  Maybe their beef is with Senator Biden-it's HIS bill.
Imagine that...
Hum, I guess she is a "Pit Bull"

She sure knows how to get things done.  To heck with the rights of others!
real reformer. like taking $27 million in earmarks, having lobbiest who are connected to Abramoff, being under ethics investigation, banning books, firing people who don't agree with her, for the bridge to nowhere etc. That does not sound like a reformer to me, but more of the same republican corruption.
More scandalous drama for them. This is what you get for last-minute (no wait last-second) vetting. But no, we really do believe you properly vetted her. McInsane, no one has accused you of being a smart guy.
Serj Tankian lyrics: "Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition." Nowadays we call the religous crusades wars on terror. Religions other than Christianity do terrify us.
She's "tundra trash", send her back to Alaska!
So, if it wasn't Palin herself, but her husband that spoke out of school, will he be handling our national secrets the same way when she's VP???
Yep, she fits right in with the Republicans.  I think the community activities (United Way and others who were thrown under the bus by Palin) should come out against her nonsense.  I think she might be a long lost relative of the Bushes.
Sarah Palin was an inspired choice, as evidenced by all these desperate attacks by the media.   All three of you are practically hysterical in your eagerness to print anything that might put her in a bad light.  But then, I would expect nothing better from MS DNC.
drip-drip-drip
Stand your ground, Sarah. For those who don't believe Sarah, do you honestly think that somebody who is death on corruption would do something so stupid????????????
I guess if she is found to have murdered someone who "deserves it" then she will be a real reformer who isn't afraid to see justice served...geeez!
Pork Barrel Palin has some 'splaining to do.
So now the republicans are saying there is no right to privacy at all when it comes to their attacks? Fine.

We want to pry into the privacy of mccains and palins lives...everything is fair game and anything goes...

Still want to play repukes?
Sounds like a dirty dirty stew....keep stirring republicans, serve it up and make the whole town sick.

reformers my hind quarters
The republicans were scummy enough to interfere in the very private Terri Schiavo deal and they thought it was ok to reveal the name of a CIA agent so this is right up their alley...dead end alley that is
So she's passing the buck to her husband?  And how does signing a waiver releasing records to an attorney, mean they can be disclosed to family members and the governors lackey staff... And then to the media.  This is reminding me of the outing of Valerie Plame
Palin, you think you are going to get away by hiding behind the curtain and telling lies? Truth shall win.
Send the PitBull to Jail.
ST. PAUL, Minn. - Organizers conceived of this convention as a means to inspire, but some African American Republicans have found the Xcel Energy Center depressing this week. Everywhere they look, they see evidence of what they consider one of their party's biggest shortcomings.

As the country rapidly diversifies, Republicans are presenting a convention that is almost entirely white.

Only 36 of the 2,380 delegates seated on the convention floor are black, the lowest number since the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies began tracking diversity at political conventions 40 years ago. Each night, the overwhelmingly white audience watches a series of white politicians step to the lectern — a visual reminder that no black Republican has served as a governor, U.S. senator or U.S. House member in the past six years.

REAL REFORMER LOL

Did you see the black guy last night? .....THE Black guy...I bet when he goes home his folks will let him have it for being a traitor to his own cause!
"I hereby waive any privilege I may have to said information to said attorneys."

If you waive privilege to a specified party, does that mean anyone is free to tell anyone about it?...
Investigations, pregnant teen, four children that she can account for one that she miracously gave birth and conviently there are no records to prove it she really needs to go back to Alaska and deal with those issues before she deal mine.
No wonder they are hiding her from the media.  This woman has no judgment & no sense of professionalism.  When are the pundits & correspondents going to regain their credibility by reporting the facts and stating their true opinions when they're on air?  Palin's speech was offensive, without substance and only geared to rightwingnuts.  How did that accomplish what she "needed to do?"
Here we go again.
Sarah Palin is Karl Rove in a dress.
Sounds like a reporter should talk with Mike Wooten, the ex-brother in law of Palin and get his side of the story. We only know about him through Palin and I'm pretty sure his side would be different than hers. She showed us last night she can lie, didn't she? Does she remind anyone else of Karen from Will & Grace?   Obama/Biden '08
No new's here folk's, move along, just another Corruption Scandal brought to You by the GOP !

Next !
Hasn't it been the media that has put out the negative information about Wooten, well before this?  Tasering his step-son, all of that.

Could have sworn I've been hearing about it for days, sometimes even right here from the always informed and always objective First Read Obama fringe-a-matics.

Via DailyKos and the Huff n' Puff post, of course.

Also, and this is a serious request, could someone please direct me to the documentation of the charge that Sarah Palin cut services to special needs children by 60% in Alaska?

Thanks.
